@Moderator:
I tried to use the "How would you improve...?" feedback window twice, but it didn't work and nothing happened, that's why I posted my ideas to improve this game here in the comments section. But it seems no one cared anyway and I guess I wasted my time. I bet many tried to use that feedback window first too, but since it doesn't work, it looks empty of useful comments.

Hi Azrael, please go back and read the comment you wrotte, i've left a comment explaining why yours was missed. I don't usually miss such excellent comments unless they were posted very late in the giveaway. i'm the only moderator here and cannot moderate 24 hours a day. Late comments are sometimes missed and I sometimes forget to check back when I get up the following morning (I have memory problems due to a serious head injury).

I'm writing this review very late as I wante e.

Overall this is a very good game with some very high production values and an excellent effort by the people involved. The "Dorian Grey Syndrome" was their freshman effort and I think this is better all around even with it's faults. I would like to see a third installment of this series.

Fantastic feedback Melika. This is what I'd hoped the commuinity would post many years ago. I always thought that if we got decent feedback weekly, developers would see this site as a good way to gain ideas from the community and/or improve the games they have given away; sort of like using us as Beta testers. Sadly, even though I have posted a message virtually every time there has been a giveaway asking for feedback, no one out of the thousands of community members (we've had over 40 thousand downloading for some games) have ever written feedback of your quality.

Again, thank you for taking the time out to send this feedback.

Just finished.

This is one of the best story lines in an adventure HOG that I've ever seen. The art was excellent, and the music was great. I liked all the puzzles - a very nice variety.

But (you knew that was coming) - the sequence of things hidden was near arbitrary and seemed lame. For example - in the early stage, there are pieces of Owen's picture frame scattered all over - Why??? And when you solve that puzzle - you get a steam pipe piece? Of course Owen would have a steam pipe piece in a secret compartment in his house. Etc, etc. (These did get a bit better as the game went on, as my wife says).

But again - art is great, animation is better than any other HOG, and the story - the DEPTH of story is unparalleled. That each character had their own voice, that each one had their own inflections - incredible. Best I've seen.

Very nice game, good art, music and sound, and an interesting story. A few things I would like to be added or changed to make it better:

- The game needs a V-Sync option. The game in my system gets over 1500 FPS and that's a lot for a game like this and makes my videocard overheats unnecessarily and my display does a strange sound. Using an external utility (D3DOverrider) to force V-Sync fixed the problem.

- Too many windows displaying the message "Well done! You found an item that might come in handy", after picking any item. Those windows require user interaction to be closed, but with the amount of items to pick up in the game that gets a little annoying very fast. Maybe just a smooth animation with the items going directly to the inventory would work better.

- The map doesn't seem to be very useful. It tells me where there's something of interest even if I don't have the item I need to do something there. It should tell me that and activate only when I have something in my inventory that I could use in those areas, like in others HOGs instead. Because with the way it's now, I'm informed wronly that I could do something there, the map gets full with "areas of interest" and all I can do is try with everything in my inventory if I'm clueless.

- The map needs a way to "fast travel" to other areas like in others HOGs, because here I'm forced to back-and-forth travel through the same areas again and again, making the game a little tedious.

That's it, just a few things I wanted to mention in case they're considered to improve the game. Thanks a lot for the giveaway! ^_^

Hi Azrael, Sorry for the late reply to your feedback. I'm the only moderator here and don't always have the time I'd like to dedicate to replies. The later comments tend to ge tmissed until the followiong week a sduring the week i don't usually check the comments till the next giveaway. The last two weeks have been rather fraught here a thome with lots of building work going on, the house has been in disarray and I've had to get things ready for an exchange student visiting, so moderation has had to take a back seat. it's very rare that i miss replying to comments such as yours. Thank you for your excellent feedback. Very much appreciated.

Graphics are very good. Cutscenes are interminable. I skipped almost all of them. Waaay too much time waiting for the scenes to end. It would be much better to have them give the information quickly and then go away.
There is a lot of traveling from one area to another. It got tedious. Hidden object parts were well done.

I enjoyed the game but it ended too soon.

Hint system as a navigation tool is excellent here, unlike many HOG games where you simply told that you could do nothing at this location. But in the hidden object scenes it is really "mild". You have to note that one of the items begins a slight moving.

Hi!

Downloaded with ease on 8.1 and began to play quickly. The dialog is long at times, but graphics are good and atmosphere
enjoyable. Did take me a little time to figure out one or two spots, but did figure it out, the hint is not much help.
It does seem to be in parts. So I moved on from one part and then am in second. Sadly you can't go back to the first
part, so almost becomes a new game then. Scenes are easy to navigate plus have the map.

Thanks for another enjoyable game!

Lee

Hi, Thanks for another Quality Game Giveaway! Missed day-time main discussion and Comments but with game of certain length such as Advanture/Murder cases/Rescue missions/Fantasy, all wrapped in HO - hard to post reflections on 'game play' alone.. As ever only few would like or want:) to complete all levels and accomplish final goal on the same day, and this being a case (for me at least) - I can only say I like the feel of 'Brink of Consciousness: Lonely Hearts Murders' and am looking forward to play more. I too like the decent graphics (although the animations look a bit awkward and 'robotic', but that's minor detail and raises a smile, there had been worst:) and visiting scenes one can for a change 'identify' themselves with (no, not murder scenes, lol:), such as rather more contemporary looking rooms, objects, streets etc - can actually bring added comfort.

..I'm naturally describing here my own 'journey' into recent hogs.. winter, fantasy, more winter, not enough winter?, ha ha (after Ice Rose given here 2 weeks ago, bought Collector's Edition, followed promptly by another purchase of 'Living Legends: Frozen Beauty Collector's Edition', and in a meantime playing 'Love Alchemy - A Heart in Winter' recommended to me by my daughter, how about that!:) I think my immediate future where games alone are concerned is pretty much sorted thanks to these Giveaways and further 'leads'. Thanks for that GGOTD and Today's brilliant as ever Presentation. Sorry to see that some of the Comments defected from usual enthusiastic, passionate, heated even - Game path.. Night All.

I don't have any security running at all. I will check the FAQs though. Thanks for your help.

..............................Moderator Comment......................

Hi Deb, none at all? I was running the recent Zemana Antilogger which has blocked several giveaways recently. Let me know if none of the suggestions in the FAQ's thread fix the problem. Check the event logs to see if there are any messages related to the game. sometimes you can find the problem via the log entries. It's best to check the logs immediately after trying to run the game as the log entries will be the most recent.

Please delete, edit or send me an email but I do not know how else to ask and honestly I am to tired to search.

Is it okay if I leave a better review after I have played the game? I do not have time until after planting. Took the last 3 days off to plant corn :)

dead dog tired and back at it in a few hours. but I need sleep for now

I understand dog tired. you can leave a comment any time you wish. It may take longer for the comment to be moderated if its a weekday as i only check back occassionally once the giveaway is over.

While it was a good time burner game i would have been upset if I paid 19.95 for it. There was too much dialog and too few hidden object scenes. The game also has you do a considerable amount of backtracking. The graphics are very good and objects can be found even with less than perfect eyesight.

Good graphics, decent voice acting, well done hidden object puzzles. The characters didn't have a lot of depth or personality, and I'm really not a fan of the "big strong white male hero saves the helpless maiden" trope. Can we try for something less overused and boring? Maybe make the lead character a little more interesting with stuff going on that isn't the standard cliche, and the supporting character not a helpless female who does exactly nothing to help save herself? Switching back and forth between the characters and giving the daughter a personality and things to achieve in the game would have gone a long way towards making the game more interesting and believable.

The mini game puzzles were mostly tedious rather than fun or challenging. Maybe if you were ten years old it would be fun to do very simple mazes by pushing lots of buttons or clicking and dragging. Being older than ten, it was not so much.

I liked this game's hidden object puzzles and appreciated the graphic settings. The storyline and characters really needed work, and the other puzzles felt like kindergarten coloring book exercises rather than an enjoyable game.

The half hour install time has to do with your computer. Do you defrag, run virus and malware scans regularly? If not doing those things regularly can help with speed. I don't like long download times either. It took anout 15-20 minutes to download and this game installed on my pc in about 2 minutes.

Just the kind of game I like. Thanks. I like having game characters that move in a more life like manner, the coloring is attractive, the setting engaging, and the story line is interesting. What a privilege to have access to this site. I'm also experiencing a disconnect between the sound, character movement and the written dialogue.

Finished (a bit anti-climactic and still very talky) and overall still a big thumbs-up. Very nice graphics, good story, ok puzzles and relatively easy HOGs, even uninstalled easily. Though not exceptional, would definitely recommend.

Was away all day and just downloaded the game and started playing it. It looks like a good game, but came across a small thing right at the beginning and that is that the text came way after the spoken voice and I would prefer it to be at the same time. I noticed you can choose your own difficulty level and that's really good. HOGs are not my favourite kind of games, but I do like playing them occasionally. It usually takes a while before finishing one though. So I am a bit behind with the HOG games given away. Stopped playing after the first level/scene because it is bedtime. I am sure I will enjoy finishing the game. Love the graphs and setting. Thank you for this game. Whiterabbit I hope you will have a good night's sleep.

Thrilled there's another HOG/adventure game this week! Enjoying it so far. My one nitpick (other than the full installation which is a pain to me since I'm always concerned that eventually uninstalling leaves dregs) is that this has a lot more dialog scenes than usual. They're interesting and useful, but I wonder if they could have been cut down. Some games allow you to click to skip one line of dialog (especially since you're reading faster than they're talking) without skipping the whole scene, but this doesn't. Other than that, nice story, nice graphics, kinda too easy HOGs and puzzles which might get harder as this goes on. Just love the genre, despite the fact (mentioned by WR last week and very true) that these are all kinda similar. So is Chinese food, but I could eat it every week! :) Thanks again!

I'm having trouble finding an item in one of the hidden object scenes and clicked on "hint." I get a musical tone, but nothing else happens. (I'm playing on Casual, so hints DO exist, and the hint button is fully charged.) Are the hints broken in general, or is it just this particular one?

Hi Deb, did you check the FAQ's thread over in the game discussion forum? It's likely to be your security software that's blocking the installation/activation Game giveaway files come with a security file that is often seen as a threat, but in reality is safe. The only way you'll be able to install is to temporarily disable the software at least until the game is installed.

"Honestly everything here is free and if a person does not like some things they are free to
leave as well."
Thanks for letting me go. You are very generous. ;)
But I thought I'm allowed to leave my critical comment as well, hm? Would you please kindly agree with me? And this guy simply denies my right to do so, cutting out some important fragments of it, pretending they are insults on Russians or that they were written in unsuitable language (the both claims are false and I think he knows it very well; if not - he must be joking, but such a joke would be of bad taste).
And you should read his answer carefully, as he insults me at least three times in his answer to my post, while claiming that I insult others. It's funny, isn't it?
So he doesn't do a great job. And the fact he does it as a volunteer (and I honestlydoubt it to be true - given the way he acts), doesn't justify neither the lies anor the insults.

..........................Moderator comment........................

Arek, this comments section is for commenting on the game. If you aren't pleased with a game please explain why instead of using inappropriate language.

It's not a forum for repeatedly trying to use the same inappropriate language that you've already been warned not to use just because you felt offended that I'd moderated it. If you can't abide by the decisions of the moderator, your comments will be deleted. If you aren't happy with my decision or replies please do contact the game giveaway owners and lodge a complaint. Also please do send your screen shots to them. I'm sure they would be delighted to see the comments about their motherland.

I've let both of your recent comment through despite then not being concerned with the game just to show the community what I have to put up with sometimes. I won't be replying to any more comments on this issue, do feel free to reply tohugh. I'll read it, but won't allow it thorugh moderation unless it concerns the game. Thank you..

I do feel pity for the moderator of this site. And you know exactly why, Whiterabbit. Who gave you the right to insult the others - quotes:
"(...) comments by you (...) contain any of the rubbish you have been spouting forth over the last day.",
"sometimes I just get fed up of the rubbish these people post",
"Please try and grow up, or, are you just a hormonal teenager"
while alongside cutting out their comments, pretending they were insults to anyone or of unsuitable language? You know too well they weren't. Luckily I have made the screenshots this time, and I'm gonna upload it on YT to show all what a pathetic liar you are.

Once again Norton detected this installation contains a Trojan virus (SONAR.Heuristic.120) Same thing happened a few games ago...I don't remember the name of the game. Norton quarantined setup.exe and it will not be installed on my computer. Not worth the risk. That is too bad, both games looked very good.

...................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi, it's the security software bundled with the game that's probably setting off Norton. It is a false positive. If there was a problem, you'd be seeing hundreds of comments.

I've played this game before and would thoroughly recommend it. There is a good storyline and intriguing characters. The graphics are excellent as are the HOGs. The mini-games can be quite mind-bending. It's a blend of Adventure and HOG (which is my favourite type of game).

You have to click two or three times on the characters in order to see everything that they are going to tell you (all part of the story) which might frustrate some people, but it's worth doing as the story is so good and mysterious. On the other hand, for those who simply wish to play you can skip what you don't want.

Hm. And don't rely too much on eg. google translator. Your language may be revealed as not suitable for children by Whiterabbit, though the translator claims there is nothing unsuitable in terms like a ...........removed due to unsuitable language................... which I used to describe the dubious value of the yesterday's giveaway game.
But His Majesty Whiterabbit has an astounding sense of entitlement apparently (sarcasm intended).

BTW... this is another HOG (Hidden Object Game) we have here (I keep visiting this site for 5-6 weeks only and found we get mostly a HOG - on Sundays and a children puzzle - on Saturdays; checked previous giveaways and this seems to be the rule of thumb for this site) and yet another Russian (like at least 95% titles here probably - all those Playrixes, Alawars, PlayJoWees are Russian companies - another rule of thumb for this site).

You really have nothing better in store for us, Whiterabbit? Or do you seriously think that a Russian HOG/puzzle game is all the players - of different ages - dream about each week?
Find another dozen of items - like scissors, binoculars, shovel, empty bottle, number, microchip, sheet of paper, etc. - and use it to unlock another door... How logical - and how exciting! :D

The HOGs are so limited, tedious, boring and brainwashing genre of games (though perhaps the stories being told in some of them can be quite interesting - as the one in the game from previous Sunday was; but for an interesting stories we have movies, books, or RPGs, so why should we bother to dig in the rubbishes to find the hundreds of absurd items in order to keep the story going instead?), that when you played one or perhaps two HOGs, and are tempted to play another, you really should ask yourself: "Am I OK? Do I really want to waste any more of my precious time for a game of nonsense, i. e. a repetitive digging in some rubbish for a random selection of apparently useless, not connected in any logical manner, items - only to move the story onward?"
And everyone should find his/her own answer for it.
I won't give you the answer, because I'm not even tempted to play it. ;)
This could be the best of its kind, but I'm not going to give it a try, because it still would be only the best of an inferior and very limiting genre of games. Not worth to waste another several hours of my time.

..........................removed due to insulting comments made about Russians....................................

P.S. You may of course cut out any of this what I have written above, if you want, pretending that it's written in an unsuitable language, just as you did yesterday, Whiterabbit. Then I would feel also very pity for you, friend. Peace!

Hi Aref, If you aren't interested in these games why even bother visiting? As for the unsuitable language, I am the moderator here and have to decide whether a comment is offensive in any way, whether it be by using unsuitable language, bullying, trolling etc. The word you used is in the UK not acceptable in front of children and as this is a family site I am duty bound to delete it. As for your sarcastic comments I take those with a pinch of salt.

This site has been providing games since 2006. The recession and the availability of cheap games (especially through the many indie bundles that are now available_ has made it extremely hard for the owners of this site to get more games to give away. The average number of games downloaded from this site is around 8000 per game, sometimes it dips as low as 4000 at other times its been as high as 40 000+. Last weeks game was downloaded almost 24 000 times. If you consider the value that represents in sales your talking anything between $24 000 to $240 000 the developer is giving away. Of course the dev may not have sold so many so the comparison is a moot point, but it does show generosity by those developers.

I by the way have no control over what games are given away, I'm purely a volunteer who does this job as a thank you to the giveaway team who used to provide a much more varied fare in games and every day. Also to the community who 99.99% of the time are brilliant. It's people like yourself, who seem to have some misguided belief that they are entitled and can insult whome-ever they please that make up the very tiny percent of unwelcome visitors.

If you don't like the games, fine, but your insults on the Russian people or your sarcastic comments are not acceptable. I will in future delete totally any more comments by you if they contain any of the rubbish you have been spouting forth over the last day.

By all means write a negative review of the game giving your reasons why you think its rubbish. Hopefully those developers who do take the trouble to read those comments may incorporate some of your improvements into their future games. As for todays game, there has already been almost nine thousand downloads and the thumbs up gives almost an 80% positive reaction to this game.

p.s. I've deleted the insults you made about the Russian people and the words that I said are considered inappropriate here in the UK. Please try and grow up, or, are you just a hormonal teenager who didn't like his original post deleting?

To the community, please excuse my unusual response to this guy/gal, sometimes I just get fed up of the rubbish these people post. I know I should just let it pass over, but it's been a long day and I needed to let off a little. Thanks.

I really wondered by why file was so large. After installing the game I can see the developer did not skimp on the images/background for this game.

I do not know if this is possible for the developer but I would love it if games opened up in a window instead of full screen. Using a dual screen myself games load funny and the cursor flashed a lot until I can change game into a window. This is how I have my computer set up and does not reflect anything on the game developer.

The game installed great on a 64 bit Windows 7 professional. I only played the first scene (Olivia) and it was great. The details and images created by the developer are wonderful.

For me this will be a wonderful fun game. I hope to see more amazing games by this developer in the future. Thanks for the game Playrix & Giveaway of the day.

This is a full 5-star game

FWIW the install routine isn't bad -- it really just unpacks the game files. The main difference between this & the WinRAR setup used by most GOTD games [those that extract the game to c:\games] is that you get shortcuts & a Playrix folder.

I got in the habit of adding games to that C:\Games folder on my wife's PC -- it makes it quicker/easier to see if she already has whatever game -- so I run the setup in my XP Mode VM, then 7-zip the game's folder & copy it over to her PC, where I extract it into that C:\Games folder.

I direct all of the games I install to a different hard drive and it goes into a folder labelled Games. Thank you for your comment Mike

Once more: Leonard Bain was framed! Why one of the disks of his wardrobe was found in the detective's office, and the other was hidden at the home of Owen Wright? It is too much suspicious!

Well, got this from a free site sometime back and it's a decent game. Kept it so it is one I would play again. Graphics are nice and runs well on Win Pro 7 32/64, as I remember didn't take me long to download, about 2 or 3 minutes at most. I would say if you like this sort of adventure/HOG game its worth the time to download. Would love to see the collectors edition; don't have that one. Looking forward to future weekends to see what comes down the pipe. Sure wish some of the developers would actually send us a new one to review or beta game to test for them, that would be really nice. Have a great Sunday everyone as for me, haven't been to bed yet so good night! :D

Well, that was a bit of a disappointment. I downloaded the 750 GB file and ran setup.exe, and Norton 360 displayed a big red banner and blocked installation. Now I'll have to decide whether or not to overrule Norton.

Hi Walter, all giveaway games are throughly rested. Norton is probably detecting the setup.gcd file as a thread. It's been added to protect the game files from hackers. It is safe.

Thanks for solid detailed review of the game, and the many free, cheap, game sources. Realize you are quite busy so appreciate effort that much more. Spring in Man'h so we're all busy too what with snow-rain and all, lol. Mother Nature a bear for second winter running. Hope third time's a charm. Looks like fun series that can be played at leisure.
