While this was a long game, which is always good, and it had a story, which is also always good - this was not only an extremely dark game but a frustrating one as well. It is another HOG that does not have the option of moving from place to place via the map, but rather requires you go through every screen, which can be extremely time consuming - especially if you're at the "end" of the map and are required to go all the way back to the "beginning" of it. While frustrating, it would not be so bad except for the hint function, which isn't much of a hint function at all. You hit hint and it says "there is nothing to do here", which means, if you're really stuck, you have to go through every single screen in the entire game and hit hint to find out what the actual hint is. This one only gets a 3 out of 5 from me.

Finally finished this game! Firs, thank you so much. This is a nice, long game with great graphics, an interesting story, good mini games and nice HO scenes. The map is horrible. It is not interactive and not very clear on how to go from one map to the other. I did check the walkthrough on the BF blog and any game that has to 'back up 9 times' etc. is silly. Any map should be interactive. I also agree about the placement of the Menu and Hint buttons. I would love to just proof read the HO scenes before these games are released. It is so frustrating to look and look and finally find something with a totally wrong label. There really is no reason to have so many things with the wrong name is this game of otherwise high quality. thanks for all you do.

This game is diabolical! It sucked the time out of my evening and I may end up as bald as a wig stand from pulling my hair out trying to remember where the other half of a certain object is. The graphics are stunning. I commended the ambient sound and the voice actors for pacing and enunciation, something that often bothers me in other games. I found the music a bit wearing on my psyche, but then, I was dealing with a diabolical murderer, right? Amazing twisted fun.
The only thing that I do not like so far are the name of the game, opening splash screens and the shortcut icon. Silly I know, but I don't feel they convey the story - at least not yet. If this is part of a series, forgive me. As a stand alone game, I would make it "title-- part of the --game-- series"
Thank you for the generous game Playrix and to GGoD for bringing it to us.

HI!
It took time again to download, not as long as yesterdays, but some time! I feel like its a bit slow going. You have to find one thing at a time again
and go back and forth, no interactive map to click on for easier travel!! Some it seemed very typical of these games being for me having done
3 or 4 in a row lately. The graphics are good and game movement is very easy.
Thank you for another good game!
Have a great week!

Rayven, is it possible that another user of your computer systems has done something to prevent you from installing files from Game Giveaway? I think there's a number of ways in which your setting up of games could be blocked. You'd have to ask other users who are administrators.

Very nice game. The voice acting is above par and the graphics are very good. Many puzzles are trickier than is typical and there was one or two that were a little tough to solve due to shoddy instructions. The tiles one was incredibly difficult to discern the picture you were meant to be matching. The map was very useful but when the only recourse was to solve for an unopened door, the map was of no use and the Hints button told me nothing. The end sequence was excellent. All in all a very nice game.

Lovely game, thanks.
The only complaint I have is that although there is a map there is no way of getting from one place to another without going through all the rooms again, backwards and forwards, to pick up one item and then use it and then do the same with the next thing. It's a touch frustrating.

For the first time the GOTD won't install, it complains that "The key cannot be decrypted". I have enough hidden object games waiting for me to get around to them, so I'm not too peeved, just letting you know that there may be some new variation to cover in the FAQ on the theme of activation failing.
Maybe it needs to reach some server to unlock the setup.gcd file, and that server is down at the moment? Just guessing.

I have this game on my Mac and it is astoundingly good. I am now trying to download it onto my Windows 7 and am having problems as to the length of time it is taking and the frequent blackouts which occur as it is downloading. I have never had a problem with a GGOTD on any of my other PCs, past or present. Is this the fault of the game or the fact that my Windows 7 PC is not delivering properly?
I am tempted to blame Windows 7 as it is an awful program but I've tried several times in the past to download this when it was offered and failed every time.
Whiterabbit, Hello, and tell your son that I highly recommend Oxford when it is time to make a decision.

Hi, JimF - thanks for the warning. I shut down Norton 360 before installing Brink of Consciousness: Dorian Gray Syndrome. I've had Norton block setup files from Playrix Games that I've downloaded from Game Giveaway before, and Norton has always later (too much later) told me that the files have been "exonerated." Norton always notifies me that it has blocked files due to SONAR.Heuristic.120, but doesn't notify me when it has been found that the files are harmless. I turned off Norton real-time anti-virus protection and SONAR and installed the game, then ran a scan which found no problems. Norton 360 uploads "problem" files and tests them, and then, some time later, declares the files "exonerated." Getting information on Norton's test results from the Norton interface is hard work.

I'm stuck. I've disabled the wall of fire and chased Oscar the sadistic killer down the elevator and into a weird back yard with a collapsed archway, a locked garage, and a well that has water but no bucket or rope. The game installed very quickly and easily and runs very well on my Windows 7 32-bit system. This game is quite spooky and is quite different from most of the other games that I've gotten from Giveawayoftheday.com. Graphics, videos, and sound are all really great. The game has hidden object segments but is much more complicated and interesting than most HOGs. I need to find one more radio dial, a rope, a coin for the slot machine, two more billiard balls, a couple of keys, a mask-like symbol, and a couple of missing parts, and I got so interested in this game that I played it for too long and I'm running late. If you're not upset by dead bodies here and there, then download and play Brink of Consciousness: Dorian Gray.

Luckily, I spotted it before clicking either MENU or HINT, but this game has these buttons exactly the opposite way around from other games (e.g. Alawar).
PLEASE, developers, unless you are have to do it this way because someone has told you to "cease and desist" because you're infringing somebody else's patents or suchlike, DON'T mess with the placement of those items on the screen!
MENU on LEFT; HINT on RIGHT; please!

I Started playing this and in the first five minutes of play I ran into a couple of discrepancies already. First problem the developers need to repair is the guitar tuner. It got stuck on the 3rd or D string and made me skip the rest of the puzzle. It needs fine tuning (no pun intended), and the second problem I've noticed is the billiards ball that you pick up in the hallway when you first enter the mansion. The game calls it a cue ball when in fact it's a #3 billiards ball. The cue ball is usually white. If I run into any more errors they can email me for a possible job at home as a playtester. Thanks GGOTD.

Dana,
In effect, you are unzipping and running SETUP.EXE, so I'm not sure I've understood your question?
SETUP.EXE (the one in the GGOTD ZIPfile) runs the Themida unwrapper, which "activates" the SETUP.GCD file in memory, after checking the date and time with GGOTD. This process can take quite a few minutes, depending on the age of your PC, the speed of your processor, and how much RAM is in it.
The "activated" file is then run, and lately this has been a WinRAR self-extracting EXE file. But if GGOTD were given a master copy which contains an installer, then that's what will run. So perhaps the best answer to your question is "it depends what the manufacturer of the game gave to GGOTD as to whether or not an 'installer' will run after the file is 'activated' online."
Does that help at all?

Very happy to report that I rechecked the TooMky site and it indeed has been cleaned up. Download Alien Town with no problems, played a small portion and closed.....no warnings whatsoever from my virus software, malware is gone, download was clean with no added junk to worry about, just opened the main page when the game closed which is perfectly fine with me.
Already have today's game offering and kept it so it's a decent game as I don't keep them if they annoy me in any way. Yesterday's was a new one for me and played a bit of that, also seems fine so far. Have a lot going on this weekend so really don't have time to give a decent report. BTW I love these adventure type HO games. They have story lines and are so much more interesting than just looking for list after list of stuff. Hope to see more that I don't already have. Will be doing more at TooMkyGames.com from now on......so glad they cleaned it up and responded so quickly....that is impressive as most sites you never get any satisfaction when you try to let them know you are having a problem. Thank you to both this site, WR and members and to TooMky. Have a nice day everyone.....off to my events of the day!

Wow! What a great game! Downloaded quickly using "DownThemAll" (go find this great software for Mozilla if you don't have it) and installed just as fast on my Win 7 machine. Graphics are amazing on this one and it's a good, long game. I read the review on Big Fish Games via the link you posted, and found that the only difference between the Collector's Ed. and the Standard Ed. was a bonus chapter with an extra hr or so playing time, Strategy Guide, and some wallpapers & interviews it looks like. Since walkthrough help is readily available via various sites (BFG is one of them), I don't feel I am missing anything not having the Strategy Guide. And I truly don't mind missing a little extra playing time - I'd rather get a safe, problem free d/l from a trusted site like yours, that's for sure. Thanks so much guys...you gave us 2 wonderful games this weekend and it is much appreciated!!

Is anyone else getting this or know how to solve it?
I haven't been able to get the giveaways, weekend games or daily giveaways, for over 3 months now, and this isn't just on one PC, but 3 desktops and 2 laptops hooked onto different home routers.
When I try to run the setup, whether normally or as administrator, and even with the anti-virus and firewall shut down completely, all I ever get is a the window saying that it is activating and connecting to the giveaway server, and then a dialog box saying "Failed to launch the program". I've missed some great giveaways recently and would love to know how to cure it.
Any clues anyone?

Hi.
I don't mind creepy stuff and this one isn't as large as yesterday's. I wonder 2 things though.
1) Why do we now install the game rather than unzipping and running the appropriate .exe like before?
2) Am I confused or would you lose the game if you uninstalled it? I mean, can we still use the files stand alone (just drop the game folder onto a flash drive and it runs like normal)?
I've heard of this game before and think it would be a good play, but I have a smaller hard drive so I can't use this on external drive, I'll have to pass.

What's with all the spooky & gloomy stuff? Both yesterday's and today's game looked like they were very well done, with great graphics and story lines, but just too dark and gloomy for my taste. Help Sam Wilde rescue his love Anna in Brink of Consciousness: Dorian Gray Syndrome, an incredible Hidden Object Puzzle Adventure game! Sam
Reference Accessed HERE 31th May 2015
You can get the collectors edition free 24/7 from MyPlayCity HERE. Do remember the problems associated with downloading from MyPlayCity i.e. toolbars etc. you can usually avoid these by unchecking the boxes during installation. The giveaway version is totally free of such annoyances. :)
Walkthroughs
You can see walkthroughs of HERE and HERE
The Game (from Gamezebo)
The game opens with a fairly long intro movie that sets the stage for the game. You play as Sam Wilde, a reporter who has been following a string of disappearances of young people in your town. Things become personal when your girlfriend, Anna, is abducted and a man, known only as Oscar, leaves you a taunting message…to come to Goldvale Manor and try and save her.
Once you arrive at Goldvale Manor you realize just how disturbed Oscar truly is, and what has happened to the missing young adults. I don’t want to give anything away, because the story is quite interesting, but let’s just say that Oscar is definitely not in his right mind, and hasn’t been for quite some time.
Oscar has rigged the house with numerous traps and puzzles that you will have to overcome and solve as you try to reach Anna in time. There are speakers in every room of the house, and Oscar will use them to taunt you and occasionally drop a random hint. Most of the time, you can continue investigating a room while Oscar monologues, which is a nice feature since he talks quite a bit.
The gameworld is immense, probably one of the largest I’ve seen in this type of game. There are well over fifty scenes that you will visit as you explore Goldvale Manor and its grounds. The artwork in the game is detailed and fun to look at, but many times there are only one or two items that you need in a room. When you have to travel back and forth through all these scenes it can get a bit tiresome.
There is a map built into the game that will show you the rooms you’ve uncovered and which rooms have items of interest in them. Unfortunately you cannot fast travel to locations, which, considering the size of the gameworld, would have been a nice feature.
Dorian Gray Syndrome is an adventure game with hidden object scenes. The balance between the two elements is excellent and the hidden object scenes don’t feel out of place, even if they aren’t as numerous as they are in other games. The scenes make sense and items are not overly difficult to find.
Oscar has definitely put some thought into hindering your progress and you will need to solve numerous puzzles along the way to advance. The puzzles are of all degrees of difficulty and many of them are fairly unique, or at least present unique spins on classic puzzles.
The Collector’s Edition features a bonus chapter that is in a completely new setting and sets the game up for a sequel. The bonus chapter is a decent length and the gameplay is the same as the main game. The Collector’s Edition also includes concept art, the game soundtrack, and wallpapers. It also has an interview with the developers and some humorous comics featuring Oscar.

Problems:
If you have any problems installing or getting today's game to work please go HERE for help. I've posted most of the common problems and solutions in a FAQ thread, which you can find in the sticky section of the forums by following the above link.
If you are posting late in the day I would also suggest posting in the main giveaway forums, in the game discussion section because I cannot moderate 24hrs a day over the weekend. I've created a thread HERE for that purpose. If you've installed the game but it won’t work for some reason, it should still be registered, so someone may be able to help at another time. Unfortunately if your problem is actually installing it then once the giveaway period is over there’s nothing that can be done until the game is given away again (though that isn't guaranteed). Sometimes you can still register the game after the giveaway has ended so long as you managed to start the download before the giveaway ends. I've tested this and the grace period lasts for up to 1 hour.
It’s always worth checking out the free games sites because sometimes the games we get here are also available for free from them. MyPlayCity (MPC) has the most with over 1000 games to choose from. Other sites include Gametop and FreeGamePick. Todays game is available as the collectors edition from MyPlayCity:
http://www.myplaycity.com/consciousness/
If you do download any games from MyPlayCity, Gametop or the other free game sites 'do' watch out for toolbars etc. Make sure you un-check the check-boxes during installation, and, in the case of MyPlayCity, every time you boot the game up, (this may have changed now as these free game sites tend to change the format frequently. .. I've posted links to all of the common free game sites below in the games, games games section. :)http://steamcommunity.com/app/263200
For now I won't be recommending you download games from Jenkat Games. They have changed the way you get games from their site. Diane has posted information about this over in the game discussion forums. If I have time or remember, I'll link to it. Cab Lady/Lady Lei doesn't recommend TooMyk Games due to malware warnings.
