This looks to be an interesting game to use as an occasional diversion. I will keep it for now. Everything installed just fine, however, it seems to ignore any attempts to control music and sound volume. I play on my notebook computer with headphones and have found myself needing to remove them to preserve my hearing. Anything I do short of muting the computer's master volume control seems to have no effect on the game's ever increasing volume. That's the one major issue I've seen.

No problems installing. The game helps you find combinations which Bejeweled doesn't always do correctly (prefers higher combo of 3 rather than a 4 or 5 which gives you the 'explosive') That's a plus. It also displays how many plays are possible (excepting using the 'bombs') It let me go on forever. :) Thanks.

Hi,

I had fun with this one :) Maybe not the hardest game, but good for taking a forced break from doing other things.

Also I have seen several people recommend running the setup.exe before the activate.exe. I thiink the instructions in the readme say the same thing (Usually) but I have found running the activate first and then the setup works everytime.

Of course sometimes there isn't an activate file, in that case always look for the reg number to pop UNDER the install screen as you run the setup.exe. Once installed, don't select "run game" on that last screen, uncheck it.

When the install windows closes, voila! You're reg code is sitting right there. LEAVE IT OPEN :)

Copy the reg number by left clicking and dragging the cursor over the number - highlighting it. Then click the control key and the "C" key at the same time to copy the reg code to the clipboard.

Open the game and usually the reg code goes right there on the first screen (Click once to place your cursor where the reg code goes and click control "V" to paste it in) and I use giveawayoftheday as the company (Unless the readme says something different) and then click next, and the game will register without a hitch.

If the reg screen isn't 1st, then once you open the game, look for a registration key (button), or a help menu (Then scroll down to register in the menu and follow the instructions above.)

Always remember any of the programs or registrations or whatever may have to be run twice if your firewall won't let them through the first time.

Hope this helps among the generous amount of installion help posts.

Techie Teri

Forgot to mention... my grandson will like this one. He's 5. It's very simple. I find it's it a great bedtime game. By knighthood I'm yawning. Another "match 3... mindless clicking type game". I'll give it a 3.

its not bad if you have time to kill, it does remind me alot of tetris which isnt a bad thing really. i do have to say the music and the fact that you cant get rid of it is annoying. not a bad game this time, its the first i've liked enough to download and i'll probibly keep it too.

Thanks Mike Comment #31, that simple fix worked. I was getting an error message after clicking on start game, which said: sorry, have encountered a problem etc etc...

It's a relatively simple game to play on the lines of any match three colours game. I like the simple story line with honorary titles given for accomplishing higher scores. At least the developer has tried to put in a certain amount of originality and something to aim for rather than just a high score. It is possible to play this game strategically, although you have to be quick, even in easy mode. It’s made more difficult because the gems falling from above are greyed out so it's not as easy as it should be (maybe the developer made it that way). If you’re good at strategically selecting groups of gems which cause bigger groups to be formed you can build up some very high scoring selections that give you much higher scores, the bigger the group of gems the higher the score, which isn't just based on the number of gems, the higher the number the more points you get for each gem. I think a lot of commenter’s have missed the point of this game and only see it as a ‘select groups of colours’ and ...... that's it. If you have imagination and a quick mind this game becomes very interesting, don't forget there are also three ways of playing this game :).

Thank you Elephant Games and the GGAotD team for this excellent strategy game. My son thought he was going to miss out on this one, (the game installed with no problems on mine and my daughters computers) until Mike posted the simple fix. Thanks again Mike :D

I tried downloading Avalon several times, it downloaded ok however when I installed it and tried to play the game it kept giving me an error. Audit Init Error. I uninstalled it and restarted my computer and it did the same thing 3 times. It looked like it could have been a good game. I installed Axysnake the other day and although that game leaves alot to be desired, it plays fine.

I really like your website. I have told many people about it and I hear from them all of the time how they also like your website. It is great.

Thank you,

Lori Lee

First two modes are too easy and boring, but the puzzle mode is great and not easy after first 2-3 levels. So, don't judge about this game without testing the puzzle mode.

Avalon Deluxe is one of the best puzzle games on GATD and perhaps is some kind of authors mistake the fact that most of users start only in default ("action") mode, which is a bad and boring kind of Bewejeled type games.

I've also encountered a crash during the first start, but later it is OK.

Mike's (#31) suggestion worked for me. Thanks Mike!

This game is far too easy, even in the hard mode.
It won't keep my interest for an hour, let alone longer than that.
Still, it's nice enough for the $0 price tag I paid.

I really liked this game! It is fun to play and looks perfectly fine without taking up a lot of resources. It installed and worked perfectly on my computer with no hiccups. There are different game modes and the 'Puzzle' version is what you want if you're looking for a logic game, trying to remove every block from the board - the 'Adventure' mode is what is more like "Collapse" or similar games. All in all a great download and I've already spent far too much time playing it when I should be cleaning up. Thanks GOTD!

Paulie P (and others):

You don't GET THE REGISTRATION CODE! You have to execute the "activate.exe" file before running the "setup.exe" file, and let it become registered over the internet. Then, when you execute the "setup.exe" file, the game will come up already registered. (Some of the games DO GIVE YOU A REGISTRATION CODE to be entered, but not this one.)

My review:

The game is similar to "Collapse" with 3 different ways to play and easy, medium and hard modes for each. They are too easy in easy mode. Hard mode is much better, but haven't given it a good test at that level yet.

First game I've ever seen that turns the (loud) music back up when you start a game even though you turn it down in options! Why even have such an "option"? Music not too bad when turned down. Graphics fair. It looks better if you run it in windowed mode instead of full-screen mode. I hate the fact that it interrupts your game to tell you that you have made it to a higher level. But that is only annoying for a while, at least.

Game not too bad if you really like this kind of game, but definitely not worth more than the "free" price for me.

OK, I wasn't going to DL this cause its not my thing, but I did just to see if it would work. First of all, I have a zip program PowerArchiver that automatically installs exe files from zip files. So I always end up Installing First (then DO NOT run the game), Activating Second, THEN run the game. Has worked every time.... With this game, I got the same windows error everyone else got, but used someones earlier advice and choose to run it in "Windows 98 compatibility mode" and it works fine.

The game itself is low end on the geewiz scale, and I can't believe they expect someone to pay $20 for it...

As always, thanks anyway GOTD for your site!

#31 Mike...That solved my problem, thank you :)
So, my review (now that I got it to work, hehe) is that although the graphics are a bit less "crisp" than I would have imagined, and leveling up seems pretty easy, it is a decent game. Scale of 1-10, this falls into about a 7.
Thanks GGOTD!!

Let me give you all instructions on how to install GOTD Software and Games properly. (Note: I don't know how to use Linux, Unix, Etc.)

Note: OS = Operating System

Step 1: Downloading

Download to a memorable folder. Be sure that the file you are downloading is the correct one. If you are on a Dial-Up connection, downloading a file you don't want, or losing it is a big waste of time.

A. If you cannot find the downloaded file, find your OS below
for search options (Windows or Mac). Otherwise, skip to Step 1B.

Note: F3 = one of the keys on the top row of
the keyboard labeled F1-F12
Note: Windows Key = Key with a picture of a flag on it

1. Windows Vista: (No keyboard shortcut)
Start Menu --> Type the zip archive name
in the built-in search box -->
Click the Magnifying Glass button -->
Find the folder the zip archive is in -->
Go To Step 2...

2. Windows Server 2003: Press: "Windows Key" & "F" Together -->
(NOTE: Be sure that only the desktop is
visible, otherwise another program may
take the command)
Search for the file -->
Find the folder --> Go To Step 2...

3. Windows XP: Press: F3 -->
(NOTE: Be sure that only the desktop is visible,
otherwise another program may take the command)
All Files And Folders -->
Enter the zip archive name in the box -->
Click Search -->
RIGHT CLICK on the name of the archive -->
Select: "Open Containing Folder" -->
Go To Step 2...

4. Windows 2000: Press: Ctrl+F or F3 -->
(NOTE: Be sure that only the desktop is
visible, otherwise another program may take
the command)
Click "For Files or Folders" -->
In the box named:
"Search for files or folders named"
Enter the zip archive name -->
Click: "Search Now" -->
Find the folder the zip archive is in -->
Go To Step 2...

5. Windows ME: Press: F3
(NOTE: Be sure that only the desktop is visible,
otherwise another program may take the command)
Click: "Files Or Folders" --> Type the zip
archive name in the "Named" box -->
Click: "Find Now" --> Go To Step 2...

6. Windows 98: Press: F3
(NOTE: Be sure that only the desktop is visible,
otherwise another program may take the command)
Click: "Files Or Folders" --> Type the zip
archive name in the "Named" box -->
Click: "Find Now" --> Go To Step 2...

7. Windows NT 4.0: Press: "Windows Key" & "F" Together
(NOTE: Be sure that only the
desktop is visible, otherwise another
program may take the command)
Click: "Files Or Folders" --> Type the zip
archive name in the "Named" box -->
Click: "Find Now" --> Go To Step 2...

8. Windows 95: Press: "Windows Key" & "F" Together -->
(NOTE: Be sure that only the desktop is visible,
otherwise another program may take the command)
Click: "Files Or Folders" --> Type the zip
archive name in the "Named" box -->
Click: "Find Now" --> Go To Step 2...

9. Mac OS 8.5 or later: Click: "Apple Menu" -->
Select: "Sherlock" --> Type the zip
archive name in the search box -->
Select the search location (Drive) -->
Click: "Find" --> Go to Step 2...

10. Mac OS Without Sherlock: Mac has a "Find" and also locate
Commands that find files, however
poor documentation has lead to
me not being able to show the
exact command.
B. Download Managers:

1. If using a download accelerator/manager, make sure you know
the output location. Many times I have used download managers
but forgot the location and ended up with 20+ copies of the
same file.

2. Be sure that the file you are downloading is the correct one.
If you are on a Dial-Up connection, downloading a file you
don't want is a big waste of time. This is even more
important because sometimes download managers will grab the
wrong link off your clipboard, or follow the wrong link.

Step 2: Extraction

I would recommend 7-zip for file extraction, because it has very good features, encryption, is fast, comes with it's own compression algorithm (Which compresses files faster and usually better than zip), and best of all, is free. Plus, It supports these OS's:

Officially: All Windows OS's, including 64-Bit, and Linux...
Unofficially: Debian, Fedora Core, Gentoo, AltLinux.org, FreeBSD,
Mac OS X, BeOS (Scroll down to the bottom of the downloads page on
7-Zip.org for the Unofficial versions)

And it also currently supports 63 different languages.

7-zip and some other archive extractors will read inside the file to let you browse the contents before extracting. While this has saved me from viruses many times, this can also be detrimental to the extraction process.

If there is more than "setup.exe, Activate.exe and readme.txt/instructions.txt" then if you install it this way, you might not be extracting critical components, such as the registration files. Any time there is more than 3 files in the zip archive, I recommend extracting it to it's own folder, weather using 7-zip or not.

If you are using 7-zip or another browser that lets you browse the zip archive, simply double-click on the files inside the archive to extract them. Otherwise, extract the archive to a folder/location of your choosing.

Step 3: Installation

A. Setup.exe
1. Double click the "Setup.exe" first, inside the archive
or out, whichever method you chose above.

2. Read the License - While most of a license is garbage, a
good technique is to copy and paste a large license to
a text editor with a find function, notepad, WordPad,
Microsoft word, and any text editors available on the
main GOTD site, freedownloadscenter.com

- freedownloadscenter.com/Utilities/Text_Editors_A-G/
- freedownloadscenter.com/Utilities/Text_Editors_H-P/
- freedownloadscenter.com/Utilities/Text_Editors_Q-Z/

The next step is to search for the terms:
"privacy,” "disclaimer,” "note,” "other" (not very
common, but one time, searching "other" saved me from
agreeing to download hundreds of viruses. It read:

"Other Terms: If you accept this agreement, you also
accept background downloading of any and all external
software/files that "The Company" grants access for use,
provided on our site, should "The Software" request the
connection through a silent internet request."

It was basically a spyware database. After a bit of
E-Mailing and phone calls, the site has been removed from
it's hosting server, due to the danger of server malware
contamination. However, had I not caught that, there's a
good chance I wouldn't be typing this.

Also, another example is:
Download Accelerator (Free Version)
The license may have changed, but about 17+ pages through
the extremely long license, it used to read:

"If any copyrighted material is sent by the "End-User,”
of which the end user holds the legal copyright and can
be verifiably traced to the sender, that "The Company"
receives via data transfer or other means, the "End-User"
therefore turns over ownership of the copyrighted material
to "The Company" and is required to destroy all copies of
any of the received materials."

Hell of an agreement for a download accelerator, huh?

So reading the license is important after all ^.^

3. Install the program - make sure that the selected install
location isn't dangerous and is in a place that you
would like to put it, some outdated installers will try
very bad installation procedures because you are using
them on an OS that they weren't designed for. Or, they
may be just trying to wreck your computer.

4. Make sure that nothing will launch when you click "Finish"
Sometimes, the program will auto-launch, or will open a
readme file when you finish installation, or other things.
If this option is/these options are selected, it may
make it harder to register.

B. Activate.exe

1. Registering the program - Always run activation before
running the program, and if a registration key needs to be
entered, make sure you have the key and the username (If
one is required) and read all the instructions in the
gray activation box. Upon launching the program, always
register it first before using it at all, because it
may be in registration mode before switching to trial.
If it switches to trial, it may be harder to register.

2. A successful activation will launch the GOTD home page,
congrats, you should now have a working copy of the
software. Note: The page launches after the activation
successful box is closed, you may still need to enter
The registration key.

Lastly, keep all the registration keys that you receive. should the program get mistakenly uninstalled or corrupted, there may be no other way to get the program working again other than reinstalling and entering the key again.

Several problems encountered with this game, I had a crash like many others, but also, I cannot add a new player. I deleted the "Player" and it left "STEPHAN", which cannot be deleted, and still I cannot add a new player.

For those who like the game, but not the sound FX, you can look in the folders and find which .WAV file goes with each sound. Change them to whatever you want. Make a set of 3 Stooges .WAVs and play as Harpo.

Installed easily, at least I didn't have any problems. No screen freeze. Didn't like the it can't be set to stage at a windows size, but that is managable. It is not much of a challenge game, but it is something to do when you are bored. All in all I would rate it 4 out of 10. Good for a freebie, but I wouldn't spend money on it.

Installed with no problem, until I tried to run it. It froze everything up and I ended up having to shut it down with Task Manager. After error reporting and restarting, it ran with no more problems.

It was a diversion for a few minutes, but I quickly grew bored with it. While these types of games are not my favorite, I do enjoy them occasionally. This one however, just got old far too quickly. The levels ended too quickly in the regular game, never lasting long enough to become complicated. The puzzle games were too simplistic, giving almost no challenge.

While it did offer a short distraction while I explored the game, it just didn't hold my interest. I'll leave it on my system because it's free and my nephews might enjoy it (It seems like it would be a good game for young children or those who are easily frustrated) but I wouldn't pay $20 for it.

This is typically the kind of game I expect to find in the bargain bin selling for $5 -- or less.

Thanks, GoTD, for the chance to check it out!

Same as #27 - Error signature - App.Name: avalondeluxe.exe - AppVer:o.o.o.o - Mod Name:ntdll.dll - ModVer: 5.1.2600.2180 - Offset: voo2ae22........... Actiivated, downloaded & installed w/o any problems. Game options include music and sound options. If you want to change either, you must do it again for every game played. I've tried game with & without any changes. Still get error message that sorry for inconvince; but, must close. -- At present time, if I had to rate this game it would have to be "0" - One can't rate a game without playing it. GOTD moderator please investigate. This is the first and only time this error has occured since December !

I did the download, UnZipped the file, ran Activate first and then ran install. After the install was finished it automatically started the program but I did get "Avalon Deluxe has encountered an error and cannot continue." when I clicked "start". I restarted the program and it worked fine. Small glitch I guess. If you read the "readme" file and do the activate first you will get the full version. I am off to explore the levels of the game. Thanks, GAOTD.

Did not work for me at first but here is how I fixed it (using Windows XP).....

Right click icon on desktop,
click properties,
compatibility tab,
check 'run this program in compatibility mode for:' with 'windows 95' selected in drop down,
click OK

Fixed it for me :)

BTW, does not look like a great game but should be good for a diversion once in a while.
