I get the same virus alert as everyone else says. #74: just delete the Registration.exe file.

I got the trojan horse virus alert when I scanned it with Free AVG 7.5. Even though it may be a false positive I'm going to remove this game anyways just to be safe especially since I wasn't too wild about it in the first place.

Re# Keilaron, sorry to hear you missed this one! From your past comments you would really like it. Bummer. :(

Re:# Face. If you didn't get a desktop icon you must have unchecked the option to create one, that was earlier in the installer. :) When that happens click on the Start button and look around in the menus there, you'll find where to start the game. I only suggested people uncheck the box on the last setup screen that would immediately open the game because too many people seem to miss the reg. code that way. They can't see it and don't think to look behind the game window, then say they never got a reg. code. It sounds like you registered the game just fine though.

Sent plenty of people to this site, but have to tell them to ignore percentages next to the thumbs up or thumbs down icons. Clicking "thumbs down" can mean someone honestly didn't like the game. But it can also mean somebody doesn't know how to unzip a file, couldn't find activate.exe, didn't see the box with the reg. code, saw the reg. code but couldn't figure out where to paste it, got a false positive and don't have an alternate antivirus program to cross-check, got a firewall error and don't know how to shut off their firewall, using a proxy server and can't activate through it, can't run the game because system doesn't match or exceed requirements, tired of or don't like certain kinds of games, don't want any games for kids, only want games for kids, etc., etc. LOL

I just wanted to reply to w/e (#58) - I understand that some people don't see the Activation code - but there was no Activation.exe. Please, if you are going to leave a post - look at the contents of the download before doing so.

If it were a matter of unzipping the Activation code to your desktop then it would have been easy - I have done it for a number of games already. To you I say - Take your blinders off and stop assuming that people who are posting for help are incompetent.

Aside from that I have to say thank you to GOTD and GGOTD - great sites that I have recommended to everyone I know and tell them to check every day. Keep up the good work.

Also, as I side note, after my initial post I went back to give the game a shot again. Still no luck on installing it (this was last night before the Give-away deadline) and after playing the demo version again still not impressed with the game.

Rich, you can't register it today. You MUST install and activate it on the day it is available. After the download day, you can only use it as a trial version. Sorry, but that's how the site works - read around the site.

After installing this game, the GoTD web site popped up on my browser and told me that the game had been activated. when I try and run it today I get a message saying "You are not authorized to launch the full game version. Please, register you game copy first, or use Demo version in trial purposes". Hmmmm. Something not right here, me thinks. Looks promising but until I get to run it, I can't say whether it's good or not.

I was following the directions from # 6 (many thanks!) and after I checked the box not to start the game, then finish, I didn't get an icon to start it on my desktop to start it up again, but I did get the registration number.. So I went back to the previous box and clicked set-up again and then let it finish normally. That gave me a big registration box like I have never seen before, with a lot of options. I put the registration number in the registration box. Now I read in one of the comments (sorry, no time to look back for the #) to put it in a different box to really activate it - Plus, I never recycled back to the GGOTD like it usually does to tell you you are activated - so am I or not?? What gives here??

My beta machine is a pentium 4 1.5ghz with 256meg of ram on an asus p4b mother board, I have a 64 meg agp video card, running windows me, I know what am I thinking.. I installed GOD's memory manager they gave away a few days ago, the game chops for about 30 seconds after getting to the main menu screen, once the game starts it chopped for about 30 seconds, then ran fine. awesome game, great graphics, great sound, I have a pentuim d daul core 3.6 ghz with 4 gigs of ram, and windows xp pro, I find with some aplications because of xp and it being a memory hog and being crappy with memory managment, does slow down the performance of the machine. I would really suggest if your having problems to use a memory manager, a good one will speed up the computer and then some. Thanks GOD Team for such an awesome game and the hard work you do for providing us with some really nice software.

F-Secure gave me the virus warnings, too. Ran the install with virus protection off and let it delete Registration.exe after registering the program. Full scan afterwards detected nothing, so I figure it's safe enough (and pretty impotent if it really is a virus)...

I LOVED this game! I like the ability to customize that this game affords. Space shooters are a lot of fun, and I like the playability of this version. I will say I was a little confused at first on what some of the options did, but I enjoyed it once I figured them out. Thanks a lot GGOTD!

I have McAffee, but didn't have any virus signal. The registration trick is to enter the key as "Product Key" on the top box, not "Registration Key" in the lower area. I have AMD processor. I am setting up the game. No problems so far. :)

i only have the trial version?...why do people get tunnel vision when they see a set-up file..take off the blinders and you will see an activate file extract that to the DESKTOP because if you cant see the activate file then i pretty sure you wont find the file if you save it some where else then after you extract it you will see a big yellowish orange square icon that has a KEY on it that is the activation key see makes sense eh..click that BEFORE you click the set-up copy paste the code in the space it tells you to then proceed with the rest and yes thank you AGAIN GOTD :)

No problem installing but when I started the game it had a repetitive
lag, music and ability to move cursor for about 2 seconds, then a
lag or stall for about 8 seconds over and over. I did make it to the
options part and turned off the sound and music which took about 15-20
minutes and clicked off the Full screen option and finally gave up.
Never got a chance to start playing the game. Had to uninstall.
Too bad. It did sound like the kind of game I like.
OH , I use XP and have about 22 gigs of unused memory space. No
problems like this with any of the other downloads from this cool

Probably just a coincidence, but I figure I'd better say something: I experienced the V E R Y slow intro screen described by Jean. My graphics card is older, so I immediately clued in that it isn't up to the job and shut down. When I re-booted...no monitor. Changed it to another computer to see if there was a driver problem. Dead as a carp. I have no proof that AstroMenace could also be called MonitorMenace, but the very last thing that went through the tiny brain of my 19" Korea Data Systems monitor/paperweight came from the game.

Iam a security scanner hoarder myself (refrence to comment #39) I have 7 spyware scanners and 3 antivirus scanners the more the marryier.

PS: One of them is Avast!!! I find my AVG picks up viruses faster then Avast I have used both on a switching basis so go figure!!!

I dont have all these turned on at once thus they can clash with each other only one antispyware and one antivirus program running in the background as guards the rest sitting on the desktop as extras.

I downloaded the game on a friends computer and upon opening the file it gave me the screen to insert the activation code. I activated it and then realized the specs on the machine were too slow.

I finally got home and tried the same thing except now - even if AVG turned off I get the same error as #30, 32, 35 and a few others.

I tried figuring out how to get to that same registration screen but nothing - in the AstroMenace folder there is a Registration icon, but clicking it gives me nothing.

I am wondering if anyone knows how to get this thing working.

Also, I tried the demo version and I have to say, even if it gets figured out, I am not entirely impressed with the handling of the game, yes, it's great that I can move forward and back but most of the enemies are on the edge of the screen where my guns won't go. Perhaps I need to fiddle more with the options, however after trying the demo, I don't think I am going to keep this one.

Thumbs down from me.

I installed this at work fine. I get home to install it and I'm getting that "Can't play full version game" error. At the end of the installation I get the code, nowhere to type it in. I try to manually run the registration.exe file and it says I'm not allowed. My AVG gave me some false positive about it being a trojan. I've stopped AVG, I've turned off my firewalls. I still get the same error, after a dozen uninstalls and reinstallations. I even changed the hard drive it was being installed onto, same errors. Although I find it funny after the installation it still redirects me here and says I've registered.

#17, 18, 19. According to Active Virus Shield by AOL and Kaspersky Labs, the register.exe is : Trojan program Backdoor.Win32.Aimbot.ew File: C:\Program Files\AstroMenace\Registration.exe/PE_Patch

Turn on the virus shield during instalation, the instalation was broken.

Turn off the shield, everything is ok. And let the Active Virus Shiled scan it again after completing the installation and let it delete the registration.exe

Maybe it would be goog for GOTD to separate the registration.exe from the package, like it used to be.

Re: #23 Jessica's Mom, who says:
"Many programs aren’t reliable" Yeah, like McAfee. lol

Current list: (subject to change as keep adding)
Norton AntiVirus 2007
AVAST
AVG
Webroot SpySweeper
Spybot S & D
SuperAntiSpyware
AdAware

All above are up to date & with the latest definitions. Also have Hijack This and WinAudit, used occassionally to check up on the above and see what might be adding crap to Windows Startup.

Tried McAfee but too many false positives and it's real-time shield caused slower running that isn't happening with NAV 2007. Also tried the AOL-sponsored free version of Kaspersky and although not as many false positives as McAfee it still had some, and the annoying integrated ads for AOL (yuck!) were like integrated adware, no thanks.

Tip: If running an older version of Norton consider getting NAV 2007 instead of renewing subscription. 2007 includes anti-spyware, and if you shop around you can get it for the same or nearly the same price as subscription renewal. One caution though, to avoid a few headaches don't install 2007 over the old version. Go to Norton's site and get their uninstaller to uninstall the old version, then do a fresh install of 2007.

P.S.: Where's Porcupine, who along with my brother-in-law collects more security software than I do. :)

P.P.S., Re: #16 & #24 billybobaloo. Another possible compatibility problem solved, good of you to post your solution for others! Audio drivers ...who'da thunk it?
