Astro Avenger 2 was available as a giveaway on July 26, 2008!
In the decade since the Global Political Crisis, mankind has entered its second golden age planning to expand the man’s presence further in the Galaxy. But all the plans for the prosperous future crashed with the abrupt appearance of the hostile alien fleet destroying everything on its way. Humans found themselves on the verge of extinction and endeavored to resist the enemy. But all the attempts would have been vain had it never occurred to them to find and assemble the secret weapon which might reverse the flow of war to their favor.
Astro Avenger 2 is a stunning comeback of the classic space scroller that lifts up the level of action, dynamics and drive in modern arcades. The detailed setting along with spectacular graphics abundant with modern visual effects and atmospheric futuristic soundtrack in the Hollywood style will not leave you indifferent and challenge your reaction and stamina by rash action operations in five immense worlds.
There are 50 levels in 5 different worlds, 35 kinds of units and 15 types of weapons available in Astro Avenger 2.
The gameplay, as the genre implies, represents a series of action operations the goal of which is to find all the pieces of the secret weapon which will reverse the flow of the war. Destroying alien ships the player collects plazma (the substance that the assembled secret weapon operates on) which can be further exchanged for new types of weapons or details for the ship comprehensive modernization in the nearest space-shop. The game is full of drive and highly addictive. It is the best way to relieve the tension of a working day or to distract yourself from a hard task to do.
Windows 98/ME/2000/XP/Vista; DirectX 8; 700 MHz; 64 MB RAM
32.6 MB
$19,95
I like space shooters so keep offering them. As to Astro Avenger 2 it takes too many hours to play through and is very repetitive and as another poster stated it hogs memory, how about offering some shooters that are 20mb's or less and take around a hour to play through.

This is a great game, easy to play at first with some really great graphics that cover the whole screen. It gets harder and more challenging but is definitely a keeper!

Great space shooter. Gameplay, graphics and sound effects are awesome.
If you missed this one, you need to get it.

Its really easy, once you get to a certain level. I pretty much finished the game on the 3rd laser maxed out (homing constant beam).

I love the game! Would like some cheats so I can be totally unfair...

For some reason this is the most boring, bland shooter I have ever played. I have no idea why people like it! It's only mildly entertaining, and the only good thing about it (today) is that it's free. I can't imagine why people would pay for this game.

Very cool game! I enjoyed the way the ships are detailed, and the style of the game is also neat. No problems installing either.

Well done GAOTD! You folks don't get kudos for much--- I read a lot of negative crap in the comments section. This is a great space shooter.
And even if it wasn't.... keep up the good work!!

I love it! Finally won on Cadet level which was hard enough! I'm struggling on pilot level, but a lot of fun and addictive. Great graphics. Great weapons, droids, and ship upgrades. I'm glad I downloaded. It plays good on a low-end PC (Vista) too.

I must admit I like simple shoot-em-ups....
This game was a lot of fun and reminds me of Zaxxon in terms of gameplay and scrolling style. Not something a "Gamer" would enjoy, but I certainly enjoyed it!

This game is awesome! I never thought I'd be able to get a space scroller from your site so this is a pleasant surprise. Thanks, GGOTD!
(This game installed and works fine on Vista Home Premium.)

I liked it a lot more than the previous GGotDs. Very fun, like a graphically enhanced version of Raptor: Call of the Shadows, which I LOVE.

I never could get this game to install on my desktop, but it was a breeze to install on my laptop. Thanks for a great game!

For those that can't seem to quit the game, hit your space bar while in game play. It will pause and a menu will come up on the bottom...to the right is the "quit" button.
Great game, thanks GGOTD

Great game - very fun, great graphics, neat sound. I enjoy all of the weapons, ships, and droids. Cool looking enemies also. Thank you!

The 3 side games would be much more to my liking. Atlantis was given away before and we still play it around here. Tried Fishdom the other day and was so sorry when the hour was up.
But shooting games are not my cup of tea. I have a vision problem and cannot line up stuff to shoot anymore at all - never was good at it. So I'll check back again later.

This is an awesome and very addicting game. the minimal requirement is low. But I have Athlon 64 X2 4200 run at 2.6GHz, RAM: 3GB PC4200, NVIDIA Geforce 7200GS 700MHz, and...it still lag at times when there were many enemies. Anyway, this is probably the most demanding game of it's time when it was release. It's awesome. I don't recommend playing this during the school day as it will make you stay on the computer and not doing any homework. It's that addicting. Download and play it during the summer. Or else you'll be sorry!

It doesn't do a complete uninstall either. Sorry, but this one is a thumbs down from me.

The game forces you to start in a LOW resolution fullscreen mode. That creates a distorted aspect ratio for anyone with a widescreen monitor &/or HDTV, not to mention not being able to play in the native resolution of display (notebook: 1920x1200, PC on HDTV: 1920x1080). In a generation where everyone is going to widescreen displays, high definition TVs & high resolution monitors, this is something they REALLY need to take into account if they expect to be able to sell their products.
To top it off, when you change the resolution to the highest it allows (only 1280x1024) & then turn off fullscreen, you end up with a 640x480 windowed mode which gives a warning that keyboard & mouse are not useable in windowed mode. WHAT THE...??????
Why in the world would they even provide the option for windowed mode if you can't control anything in it???

I won't be trying this one. I don't enjoy this kind of game. I like strategy and simulation games... some puzzles as well. I love Puzzle Hero that I got on here a month or so ago. Would love to see more games like that. I love GGOTD!

One little caution. When I tried to open, it said the object file couldn't be created, but in a few seconds it did. It works on Vista HP, but play is a little slow compared to most games. This actually makes it more relaxing.
Suggestions to authors:
1) With more advanced weapons, allow selling the old ones, even if at a discount (Warn the player before selling it.). Allowing downgrading a lesser weapon to give enough credits to buy/upgrade a better one would be nice.
2) Don't just throw plasma upgrades out. That is, with 500,000, don't put any more out for a while. They could be secretly accumulated to give out when the plasma level drops down somewhat.
I rate it about 8 out of 10.

Installed fine, XP pro SP3. Nice graphics and play. The sound didn't play on my machine and there was no quit opion anywhere. The three finger salute (ctl-alt-delete) wouldn't close it. Used the pcc case reboot button to exit. I promply uninstalled this program.

I love these kinds of games :)
This is a very good one, no problems with install or running it.
Lots of weapon and ship upgrades and I love the little drones!
Definitely worth the download, I will be keeping this one.
Plays very well on my system, no slow downs or other issues:
Vista home premium
Dual core Athlon

Sean: The secret weapon uses plasma (money) as ammo not normal energy, and sucks it down several times faster than you can earn it. You probably ran out of plasma ammo for it.

The introductory 3D movie, a chase through asteroids, was exciting and great. Unfortunately, I saw no asteroids in the game.
Everything else on the game is awful.
No, there aren't 15 weapons and 25 lasers. All I saw was five lasers (upgradeable 5 times each) and 5 rockets and 4 droids (repair, battle, laser protection and missle protection). Gradius had better weapon variety that this!
Worlds one looks identical to world two.
The toughest level is level one, because afterwards you can upgrade the default laser to a spread-type that can basically make all other levels a piece of cake, even in the Normal level. The laser protection droid basically makes you invulnerable to enemy laser fire.
After half an hour, I've gotten tired of those green hexagonal flower-like enemy bases.
I hope GAOTD offers Rake in Grass's Jet'N'Guns. That's far better than this one.

Good game. Kinda easy. Beat the easy levels while only dying once (ended up with 25 lives). Now to move on to the harder versions and see if you have to do more than just sit back with the fire button down. Wish it had a save.

Perhaps the above game would be out of place among all the "click the jewels" games.

The game is really fun.
Use the Laser DMR-120- It's like a "homing" laser, which follows the target. You have to activate it permanent by holing your left mouse button. Note: with the standard ship your energy bar will go slowly to 0. So in future try to save some monegy and get a ship upgrade... to have a better reactor = energy.
Max the weapon + ship (upgrade) time by time.
With this laser maxed and ship maxed you can use the defense drones )arir- Raid and Anti- Laser) (2 of each) and one repair drone.
Use the SWR-1000 missile which is a kinda missile cluster. I usually have 50 spare and the NK-3000 (nuke) destroys every enemy unit on screen. I use it as "backup". 10 of them and you will never have any problem :)
i already enabled the secret weapon. Once you have done this- the game is kinda over. It kills almost everything.
So i recommend to start at medium defficulty or hard to have a long time fun. If you go for easy level you will have every available upgrade in about 1 hour.
Havge fun. And don't forget: Don't start with easy level. Select medium or hard difficulty !

This publisher had some different types of games. I would like to see some detective type games. It looks like Mystery Case Files: Ravenhearst and Mysteryville would be excellent for GGOTD
