Falco Brains is an unusual variation of the Match 3 genre.

Arxon challenges you to match colored scarab beetles on a grid to save an ancient land from destruction. Creating combos generates powerups that help you win. Features simple controls, three challenging game modes and gorgeous Egyptian artwork!

Arxon features three entertaining game modes. In Adventure Mode, you must create matches of three or more scarabs of the same color before the timer runs out. The gameplay is the same in Endless Mode except there's no time limit. In Logic Mode, you must match the colored beetles to a pattern on the game board. Creating combos generates powerups, such as the Destroyer Bug, which wipes out all of the scarabs on the grid with the same color as the one you hit.

Steeped in challenge and rich with Egyptian ambiance, Arxon is the perfect diversion for casual gamers!

Ljuba: It's NOT a demo version--you just didn't activate it correctly.

I found this game disappointing. I didn't "get it." It's sort of a match 3 game, but it's billed as three different games: logic, adventure and endless. However, it's really just slight variations of the same game. Usually love Alawar, but this one's a disappointment. Graphics and music are well done, but you've really got to like this type of match-3 puzzle.

I think this is bad game, because it's just demo version. This game is something like a "Zuma" and "Diamond mine",but "Zuma" and "D..." is better than this one!

I also was getting the "additional files" error, and the game would not run. Being in an experimental mood, I uninstalled and downloaded the file from the mirror server, with the same results. I then tried to have the program "run as" Win98, WinNT, and Win2k (my system runs WinXP home, SP2) -- none of these made any difference.

Finally, I went straight to Alawar's download page for this game, to at least try it out to see how it plays. I received the exact same error from the .exe that was downloaded directly from Alawar, so the problem is most definitely theirs, and not simply the file being provided to/by GGOTD.

It's a shame too, since it looked like such an interesting concept for a game. Perhaps once Alawar gets the problem resolved the game can be offered again? Whatever of their games I've ever downloaded before have consistently been high quality and stable, so this just isn't like them.

Nonetheless, thanks to Alawar and GGOTD for their offerings: past, present, and future.

I installed this on my husbands windows 98se..
His machine meets all the specifications; the game runs well, BUT!!!
There is NO sound!
YET, all the sound files are in the files for the game, and he has no issues with his sound cards etc..
Help?
(I am probably putting this into the wrong area, so will post it in the forum too)

Users who only get 60 minutes to play or cannot activate - If you are running Vista - run Activate as the Administrator user.

(Right click on Activate.exe and select "Run As Administrator")

Someone please help. I activated, a little window said it was activated successfully. I then hit setup and installed it. After closing all the way, without running right away, it started up. Man, I run vista too, and it didn't give me a demo or anything. I guess all I can do is to keep playing it. :-)

Installed fine on Vista, but on XP every time I start it I get the message that the program has installed extra files and it won’t happen again, with the only option being to close the error message box.

Alawar needs to address this problem... pronto!

For those having problems installing this game. I had both scenarios when I first installed it on my Vista system. It initially came up with the 'installed extra lines', and then when I clicked on the desk top icon, it showed the 60 minute only trial. I always click on the activate button when I've unpacked a game giveaway, then the set up file, unless they are combined. Usually this is enought to activate the game correctly. I clicked on the activate button again and I still got the 60 minutes trial window. So shut the program down and turned the computer off. When I returned to it later the game was working okay, with the trial window gone. :)

I didn't do anything else other than the above steps. ie..... Unpack, activate, install the program, activate again, turn off and close down.

Has anyone who previously had problems tried to do this with success? I hope so.

Thanks Bluhoteyes comment #12; I didn't know that you could change the coofthe scarab by clicking it. That will definitely make the logical puzzles easier to complete. :(

This game works fine on Vista. I had no problem with the install. I'm still learning to watch for certain items but it's fun.

My only problem is it refuses to remember that I turn on "Windowed" instead of "Full Screen". It does switch to windowed but the next time, it loads in full screen again. It does remember that I turned off the music. It's funny that it remembers one option but not the other.

If you like to actually win a game, don't waste your time. Game play is fun but you cannot save it. With so many levels, that would take all day and night. It was saving in Adventure mode and then suddenly quite. I didn't notice what level I was on when it quite because I didn't know it was going to... but next time in, "Continue" was blacked out. I guess if you register it (pay) they let you save game?

Played successfully for almost an Hour by randomly clicking buttons on spaces.

Have not seen a game so easily beaten by random button mashing since "Failsafe" for the Atari 7800!

After I ran activate.exe the GGAOTD website came up saying "game activated", but I did not get the little window saying it was activated. I think this is the first time activate.exe did not give me that little message window. Hope it stays registered and not end after an hour of play as in a demo. Never mind. Got it, just more in it now with opt in/out stuff.

In any case, this game is FUN -- a lot different than the usual match games! IMHO, Alawar has been the best provider of great games!

I saw a game online today that some longing for violent games may like, called "Vice City Manhattan". Maybe GGAOTD can get it someday?

Thanks Game GAOTD and Alawar! Keep up the great game giveaways!

I noticed several say they are having problems with Vista compatability. I have downloaded several wonderful games and ran them as XP. I have Vista. If you click on properties before you run the installation and then click on compatability you can opt to run them as XP and they work beautifully. Hope this helps.

Downloaded as 19.2mb rather than 18.7mb but activated and runs fine. I love match three games like jewel quest, bejeweled, jewel match and chuzzle but this puts a whole new spin on it! The adventure was a bit confusing at first so I played endless for a while to get the hang of it without timers. I really don't like bugs of any kind but the graphics are decent and there is enough color contrast for my low vision. Thanks whiterabbitt for your detailed description - it always helps me decide whether or not to try a game. This is a keeper! Thanks ALAWAR and GGOTD!!

#35 as far as I know you should never receive a message from an installation program that tells you it's "installed other files". That is just creepy. I suggest doing a full system scan for spyware and viruses. I have been using computers for 15 years and I have not once encountered this message about others files being installed. This is extremely suspicious to me.

Everyday I try to look for a game that I might want to download. I recently missed one that looked interesting, but today this one looked interesting. I had no problem downloading the game and followed the instruction that #23 gave. Haven't had time to play the game yet, but will tonight after work.

I just want to say thanks to GAOTD for the many offers they give. Even if this is the first offer I have taken advantage of because I haven't felt the need for some of the programs or wasn't interested in the games for myself (most seem to be for kids and I have none), it it fun to come to the site everyday and see what "present" I could have just for the taking. I always read the comments and can't understand why people are complaining over the FREE offers not being good enough for them. Don't they realize the GAOTD doesn't even have to do this? They should be thankful for the offering even if they can't or aren't interested in it! Just my 2 cents worth. THANK YOU GAOTD

I love the look of this game, with it's rich colours and crisp graphics. I also had some head scratching moments at the beggining, and with the not so detailed instructions. I then clicked over to the "endless" option, which allows you to putz around- well- endlessly, thereby observing what works and what doesn't. It also lets you hint without penalty. After about 5 minutes of this I had my Helen Keller moment and was on to the adventure mode once more. Thanks again GGOTD and Alwar for a great game.

People who gripe about bloated code (like me) fondly remember when memory was expensive. Good programmers had to write elegant, tight code and efficient programs were prized. As with bureaucratic paperwork and bloated government, poor code expands to fill the space allowed. If Microsoft can bloat, anyone can.
I am peeved with any company's Uninstall executable that fails to remove all the garbage. I didn't appreciate the promo shortcut icons Alawar deposited on my desktop, and I really didn't appreciate finding Registry detritus left behind after I "uninstalled" the game, to wit:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Alawar\Play\2690\Trial
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Alawar\AlawarGameBox\InstalledGames\2690
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Alawar\Arxon
IMHO, the game itself was just a flashy cookie cutter variant of the Marbles type games. More innovation and challenge can be had with some of the free games on Ezone.com, Miniclips.com and NewGrounds - e.g. TERRAIN, SLING and BLOXORZ. KYE and Amazing KYE are superb free games, too - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kye

Windowed or screened it is beautiful, superior to any I've played of this genre. It is proudly an Alawaw game, a keeper that I'm already addicted to. I'll be playing this one, long after I've deleted other, lesser games. Whiterabbit aka Stephen has pretty much described all of the important elements, the only thing I can add is my opinion, which is: Try this one, I think the only way you will be disappointed is if you can't get it to work on your system or don't enjoy this type of game. Thank you Alawar for yet another super, super offering. GGAOTD ♥

This is an excellent match three or more game, with three game modes, Adventure Timeless and Logic. The first two are similar apart from the timing of the Adventure game, which the longer you take to puzzle over moves the more it costs you in time. Once you've gained a specific amount of time bonuses the level ends. If you're totally stumped, you can use a hint button, but it will cost you a significant amount of time, (at least 12 to 15%) which is taken away from the indicator to the left of the playing screen. You can tell which game you are playing by the colour of the indicator: red for adventure and blue for timeless. You don't lose time from the timeless game apart from when you request a hint. The logic game requires a little more patience to play once you've past the first few levels, although I found the second level hard enough, lol. Each game comes with it's own tutorials, which are easy to follow.

I inadvertently changed the type of file from Gif to PNG, which unfortunately were significantly larger than the usual ones I save, so haven't uploaded them to my photo bucket account as it would take ages to accomplish. I may attempt to upload a zipped file for those who may be interested and will post the link later today, or even tomorrow (I've got a problem with uploading at the moment so it may have to be posted another day. I'll label it accordingly though).

Although there are many match three games around; this particular one has enough differences as well as beautiful graphics to make it a worthwhile acquisition, even if you think you've got enough match three games already. The game is fully mouse controlled and has a simple options menu, the ability to save your game at any point; and, if you do lose a game, you won’t have to start right from the beginning, only to the beginning of the level you lost. The first two games, Adventure and Timeless don't just involve creating matching columns and rows of scarab beetles, but groups of three or more. Also it's not one of those games where you move columns and rows, or swapping the positions of adjacent pieces on the board to create three or more lines of matching tiles by dragging the pieces. In this game you add new tiles in the form of scarab beetles from the side of the grid, which is similar to the column and row moving game, but there are differences due to the bonus bugs that I'll discuss briefly below.

Check out the screenshots from the Alawar and Retro64 games sites at:

http://www.alawar.com/games/arxon/

http://www.retro64.com/arxon_screenshots.asp

or follow the link below to see a general search page of Arxon screenshots:

http://images.google.co.uk/images?gbv=2&svnum=10&...

There are a total of 153 levels to work through; 63 levels in Adventure mode, 80 levels in Endless mode and 10 levels in the puzzle mode. There are five types of bonus bugs to help you match up your tiles including a power bug which is introduced in the tutorial section of the first two games, Adventure and Endless, or the power bug that destroys all the bugs of a particular colour on the playing grid. Apart from the power bug all the other bonus bugs will be introduced to you at various stages in the game. The bonus bugs are not applicable to the logic game.

This is definitely one to keep in your library of games and is worth 8 out of 10 for playability, gorgeous graphics and having two very different games in one package (adventure/endless plus the logic game). Thank you Alawar for your continued presence here at the giveaway project and to the game giveaway team for a fantastic project. I've already got this game by the way, but have hardly played it yet despite its addictive game play. It also works via Vista, however I had to restart my computer for it to show that it wasn't a demo.
