Are you Ready?
In Brief
A difficult scrolling shooter.

Are You Ready features more than 10 different maps to navigate/explore with four different environments i.e. forest, mountains, desert and snow. The enemy AI seems to anticipate your shots (i.e usually they fire before you and in the direction you are moving). There are five bosses to beat and you have three weapon choices selected using 1, 2 or 3 (though I couldn't get them to work). You get five lives but no saves, which for the average player will probably mean lots of restarts. You can see Steam community comments about today's game (most are useless) HERE and see a video of game play on the Steam page HERE. I purchased this on release almost 3 years ago but as usual with these two bit games I hadn't got around to playing it until today. As mentioned above, the AI is okay in that you don't get a free ride; you have to work for your kills due to the enemy ships movement tactics (if you can call them that)..
The game should give the average top down shooter fanatic a reasonable challenge, but if you are not familiar with this type of game, you may struggle to even get past the first level. I've been playing these games for many years and still struggled to get to the end of the level. Whether that was the game or my play style IDK? One sore point; beware of the boxes (power ups) left behind by enemy craft that you destroy; some give you a life back, others for some unknown reason kill you. There's no indication as far as I could see that enables you to tell one box from another. About 50% of the time I picked up one of these boxes (by flying over it) and immediately died. Another odd thing is when you shoot at some objects such as the trees they move around. which is weird. The enemy AI appears to use cover advantageously, this together with the moving trees actually made it much harder to destroy them as the trees were constantly blocking my missiles. For a £0.79/$0.99 game, it's okay, but it's nothing special and there's nothing original.

Whiterabbit-uk,

I think the issue with the power up boxes dropped by enemy ships when you destroy them i.e. killing you is related to the number of lives you may have. If you have the maximum number of lives, I think picking up one of the boxes may take a life a way.

It may not be an issue but intentional, much like the positive and negative power ups you get in games like the breakout or bubble popping genres. I couldn't see any difference between those boxes that added a life and those that took them away, but that could be because I need new reading glasses
:)

M. H.,

If you go to each individual page you should see a play button. The games are not free forever, just free to play until the next Half Life game is released in 8 weeks.
