Playing the tournament is just horrid. So I played the quickplay exactly 30 times since the debut. I had 5 things that I felt would improve the game but in the end the biggest bummer about it, is that it is not winnable because of so many errant 2 balls that just fill up
the silo. This could be fixed IF we were given more crazy balls or dynamite but this game is rather niggardly in handing out prizes.
Some things also irked me: silos were short, no way to undo a bad shot, the addition of the blue ball wouldn't be bad if it had been earlier; ramps up too slowly and finally of course, rather boring because of all of the above. So in the end I gave it a thumbs down and finally after 6 weeks of playing it removed it from my system.

I never could get above 2500. Perhaps when I get better, it will be more fun. I want a challenge, but a doable one!

Arabica installed just fine (Windows XP Pro) but hangs and collapses every time after a couple of bars of the music. I'll have to catch this one on a rerun, I guess.

Nice. Not the usual connect three game. Not for our 4yr old, but still fun.

Yet another piece of merscom trash. The gameplay was monotonous, bordering on painful. The interface was horrendous. I'm just wondering what person would ever plunk down 20 dollars for this when they can get quality games for that amount.

Downloaded...3 minutes playing...deleted.

This is the coolest game I have seen in quite a while. I have been playing for over 24 hours off and on now. It is a lot lot harder than first glance shows. A real challenge to my brain. Download and install went perfectly.

Great game, Looks boring from screenshots but it's well polished and original! Transitions are smooth and gameplay is top-notch.

My router was down all day yesterday, and most of today. Here is my late review of Arabica:

This is yet another match-3 - but, as the description says, it is innovative. Gameplay is not on a 2D "board" as in most games of the genre, rather, the object is to sort various gems onto a 1D line. While that is innovative, it is hardly better, as the gameplay becomes repetetive and boring. This is magnified by the number of levels in Story mode, which only differ in their number of powerups. I soon tired of playing it.

The graphics are the standard 3D jewels on a 2D Photoshop-painted background. For the theme, I expected something more like composite photographs of wood and leather and less like vague, smoothly-softened areas of brown. While the objects depicted were original, the depiction itself felt generic. The intro was strangely low-res, like Magnussoft's.

The sound was OK, I guess. The music sounded like it was written in the 30s, and the menu buttons beeped like hospital equipment. The matching sound effects were derivative.

The theme was nicely orginal, being Middle Eastern, but the story was far-fetched. A Persian man named Arif lost his girlfriend Salma in the desert when they were attacked by robbers. After wandering around for a while, he found a box that said "PLAY ME" on it(it really says that in the story), and a message saying that the box would show him the way to Salma if he won the game inside. As cheesily funny as that sounds, what's even funnier is the length and sincerity of the story pages themselves.

Overall, I give Arabica a score of six and a half out of ten(five for gameplay, seven for graphics, six for sound, and eight for theme). The gameplay was certainly different from other match-3s that I've played, but it was too boring to be any real fun.

Small side note: Arabica is a variety of coffee grown in Arabia, and is generally considered to be the oldest known type.

Wow, no comments about how vilulf and lytefoot can't complain about "FREE" games. It must be the end of the world.

Great game, I have installed on three computers on two of the computers the game runs great but the third is having the same issue as several other GGOTDers, I am thinking it might be a issue with Windows media player the one that I'm having problems with is running WMP9 and the others are running WMP10 there was a change with mciqtz32.dll between the two. This was a part of the error message that windows was going to send out. Hope this helps...

Re comment #39 and #42

Thank you gw for giving me the html to get this info. I went to Bubby's reply, downloaded the TechPowerUp GPU-Z pgm, ran it, and found out that currently my video card is only supporting to Direct X ver 6.

I am going to try to see if there is an updated driver by my video card maker but failing that I will keep the game and when I have saved up my pennies will get a newer video card to try it out.

Again THANK YOU! You saved me much frustration and anxiety over what was wrong!

this game was in my "maybe buy" folder, so obviously I was interested enough to perhaps pay for it. (the difference in maybe buy, to definitely buy, would be the challenges offered by increased difficulty/ different scenarios as the levels go on).

Unfortunately, unlike some other games I have already tried, this one didn't remember what level I had originally reached when I reinstalled it (for Rise Of Atlantis the other day, I'd reached Greece Level 10, so I didn't have to play all through the game again!)
Thanks once again to ggaotd and the developers for offering this game

This game has interesting and innovative game play, and provides interesting challenges. Unfortunately, it isn't very much FUN. One mode is kind of boring, the other is way too easy. I'll try it again on story mode, but otherwise, this one isn't a winner.

I had no problems running on XP SP2. This game is indeed a little different. I have been using my mouse (instead of z,x,c,v keys) to select which column to put the colored "gems" in. I got bored easily. When I have more time I may just keep going and see if it gets better.

Thanks everyone for the great reviews! Thanks also to GGAOTD and Merscom for the free game to try!

Same here #29(and other XP users)! I must say that its a first time thing I can't run something from here. I'll re-download, and reinstall. If that doesnt do it, then I suppose I can do without this clone game. Seems more interesting than most of this genre. 1 more try :)

I was looking forward to trying this game.

Downloaded, installed and when opening page of the game came up this message was displayed "Arabica.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." I hit debug but nothing happened.

I am running windows XP SP2.

Can this problem be fixed. I even uninstalled the game, shut down my computer for 2 minutes, restarted, re-downloaded and re-installed the game with the same results. I've never had this problem from this site before so I think it must be something to do with the program???

Also you make mention of going to the forum but I'm not sure what spot in there to go to and I never see any replies to the questions posted. As I've never used any forum of any type I apologize if my questions seem ignorant...it's because I'm ignorant of the way forums work/run.

It works great under Vista Ultimate 32 bit. I agree, it may be technically a match-3 since that's what you are trying to do but it is so different. I would consider it a puzzle game. I was surprised at how far I got on the first try. I didn't have time then to do more than just make sure it worked.

This is a keeper! Thanks GGOTD!

I'm glad to see Merscom back. This game is professional in all respects. Plus, it attempts to create something different, which is always welcome, too. Unfortunately, to me this game gets boring quickly. It becomes a try-to-keep-up kind of ordeal that loses any puzzling challenge to it after a short while. I think its fault is a lack of variety. It needs a lot more power-ups, or something. Therefore, I give it a weak thumbs-up.

23 - That's a shame because this actually is a fairly innovative match three game. Innovation doesn't necessarily mean "better" but it certainly means that things are done differently, and this is definitely that. Still, by all means read one line and decide not to download. Don't let me stop you. :)

I have XP, and I cannot run this either. It gets to the first screen (Easy Games/Media Art Presents) and then crashes. So I guess the same problem as #1 and maybe #21.

I have never had this problem with a game from GGoTD before.

I'll try again.

Looks like an interesting/different game.
