Ohhhhh! Sad!!! Have been waiting for word games, but agree with other comments... After multiple tries could still only get 15 days or 15 runs, the music is lousy and I found it too difficult to read grid letters comfortably. Thanks for the effort...Better luck next time!!!

I thought this word search game would be enjoyable, and I downloaded it at 3 a.m.

(Note to self: No more downloading before sunrise!)

What appears as I start the game, sipping my first cup of coffee? The DoubleGames logo.

(Note to self: Buy new monitor, as coffee ruins LCD's.)

This company's software consistently fails to meet even basic standards of usability. Today's game is no exception.

But, in the spirit of fair play, I think about how persistent they are in providing this offal-disguised-as-software and think: NO ONE can be THAT bad THAT long...they have to be learning..improving... right?

I decided to give the game a try. After I found my binoculars. What is with that font?!

Then I realized some ungodly noise was assaulting my eardrums. Are the neighbors castrating their stallions? Are hooligans tormenting feral cats in some weird fiery ritual? What?!

Somewhere in between the spewed coffee, the Tylenol and the ice pack I managed to get that game uninstalled. MERCY. Double Games has set a new standard in sub-standard software.

Terrible spelling and readability. Played as long as I could stand it and then deleted. :( I love word search puzzles and was really looking forward to this one.

Now don't think for one minute that I'm one of those conspiracy theory nutcases, but it appears logically to me that maybe, just maybe the makers of these games use this comment section to get ideas on how to improve or maybe even make some drastic changes in their software through people putting in comments on how THEY would prefer the game and saying things like cheap graphics etc. Using this comments serction as a "sounding board" so to speak. Just a though anyways......

#47 - Crabby Gabby - offered "Here’s an example of a page I found this way that is devoted to this pastime–is free, has lots of puzzles playable online, allows you to make your own puzzles, (etc.), and you don’t even have to download anything:

http://www.wordsearchfun.com/"

DO NOT GO TO THIS PAGE, it is LOADED with popups and every "game" category takes you to --- a search page with categories based on your selection. Further, if you register to create your own puzzle, within two minutes your email gets swamped with spam (good thing I go to Yahoo and create throw away email adresses to test this garbage!).

Crabby, you are not trustworthy. I can't figure if you are an idiot or purposfully vindictive. Either way, anyone would be a moron to follow your advice after this demonstration.

Even if I don't download the game of the day, I get a day's entertainment out of the comments. Snot (#7&8) really had me cackling.
I've picked up some great games at GGOTD. Just because a game might not be my cup of tea doesn't mean that someone else won't like it. I do value most of the opinions voiced here but take them with a grain of salt. They give me clues as to whether or not to bother downloading and trying them out. Snarky or serious, GGOTD is worth the visit daily. Judging from the voicings today and previous Doublegames downloads, I'll pass today but return tomorrow to see what game is offered and view the voice of the people.

Answer to Malia Brown read the txt file on installing the games it will give you information on what you need to do usually clicking the activate.exe prior to clicking on set up will give you the full versions of the game not just the trial version:) hope that helps

Any game or software that is free for all to download is a great gift. To the people who insist on whining about it, don't get them. SERIOUSLY!!! STOP COMPLAINING!!! AT LEAST IT'S FREE FOR GOD'S SAKE!!!!!!! They don't have to offer any of these programs to us. I on the other hand am greatful they do!!

Two big contras... Letters are too small, you have to strain your eyes or sit real close to the monitor, which is not good.
That crazy music... makes it difficult to consentrate on the words search. Listening to it for over 5 minutes gives you a headache.

Although I did not think it necessary to have cartoon naked women on Elite Freecell and Elite Solitaire, I do think that Double Games should be allowed to have their other games evaluated without instantly writing them off for the dislike of those games.

The spelling mistakes in this game do let it down but there are thankfully no wordsearches on various parts of the body and as such I think the developer should be allowed to offer games without past flaws being rementioned.

I also dislike the extra desktop icons that come with the games (icons on one's desktop are intended for quick access to frequently used programs - I cannot imagine many people would need such an icon to any paid-for games website) but for fans of wordsearches this is a game that will no doubt be enjoyed, the spelling errors only adding to the challenge :-)

Good morning everyone! ;)

I love word searches - in fact, I love ALL word games! But unfortunately, I'm going to have to give this one a 'thumbs-down' - for many reasons.

The opening graphics (just as you launch,) are gorgeous, with great colors that are pleasing to the eye - that is, until you look to the right of the main menu, where your further expectations of lovely graphics - sink fast.

The contrast of the font to the background of the menu, is just awful! It's black on brown and difficult to make out, even if you have 20/20 vision. Thankfully, with a mouse-over, it does highlight to yellow.

There is NO Options screen! I had to turn the annoying music off, either by muting it from my keyboard, or turning it all the way down so that I couldn't hear it any longer. Developers should be very careful about their choices of music for 'thinking' games, as this can make or break one's concentration.

Again, the colors on the playing field, (grid) are black on brown, with the most G-d-awful font - ensuring additional difficulty in the WRONG WAY. As someone commented earlier - game difficulty should NOT rely on an inefficiently designed grid, but on finding the words themselves.

There are 3 choices of play: Quest; Sprint and Relaxing. I only played 'Quest' through a few levels, since my head AND my eyes began to ache after a while, having to concentrate too hard on the colors to find the words.

You can't even save your games! If you want to exit and play again later - it takes you straight to the 'High Scores, to record your current score - and that's it - the end of the game.

Points:

0 for graphics (I'd have given -1, except that the opening graphics really are lovely;)

0 for ease of play - (not for ease of game;)

-1 for horrible music;

-1 for all the crap put on my desktop;

-1 for multiple misspellings in the game.

TOTAL = -3

Thank you Double Games, but sadly you now have a reputation for selling inferior, outdated games.

Thanks GotD - I really was excited at the thought of finally being offered a good word game - but this one has failed miserably.

Have a wonderful day gamers - perhaps now, some will get out into the sunshine and do something even more fun on this relaxing Sunday - instead of just sitting in the house playing games. ;)

Hate to say it, but it's another loser from reseller DoubleGames.

Diana (#35) I get what you're saying. DoubleGames does release hundreds of games. It's just too bad that the games that they do release are so poorly constructed, like today's travesty.

I'm sorry, but spelling errors in a word search game is simply unacceptable. It makes the game, for me, unplayable.

A word search game is a nice change of pace, so thanks for that, GGOTD!

I don't have any specific hate on for DoubleGames, so I'll give it a try. If it turns out that I don't like a game, they're very easy to uninstall, so it's no big deal. I actually do like their Elite Mahjong, which was offered earlier (I really enjoy the background music, though the choice of an African beat while Chinese imagery is on the screen is a bit odd ;-) ).

Originaly released in July of 2006 and the creator(s) couldn't be bothered to even fix the spelling mistakes in the game nor fix the terrible font selection?

Never the less, some still think we should be grateful because it's offered for free?

As far as the sequence of activate and setup....it's down right scary to see that there's even one ,let alone several, that advice someone to it the wrong way around. Read the 'readme' file. That is why it is there.

Some visitors to this site are not very knowledgeable about computers and the internet, so I offer this comment for them.

Google (etc.) is your friend. If you like word search puzzles, type "word search puzzle" (or similar) there. Here's an example of a page I found this way that is devoted to this pastime--is free, has lots of puzzles playable online, allows you to make your own puzzles, (etc.), and you don't even have to download anything:

http://www.wordsearchfun.com/

Thanks GAOTD and DoubleGames for your offering. I will pass on this one mainly because I don't care too much for word search puzzles, especially not ones that are--according to above comments--hard to see, have misspellings, don't intersect and offer no word-list editor or puzzle-maker.

It's gotten to the point where I won't even bother downloading anything from DoubleGames, but I'll read the comments on the off-chance that something from them will be worthwhile. What the comments tell me today is that this game is a loser on a grand scale.
Like their "Intricate Words" offered a while back, this is a game that relies heavily on spelling , put together by people who don't know how to spell. Things like excessive violence, nudity, poor graphics, boring gameplay, etc. could be chalked up to poor judgement on the part of the developer or differing tastes of the players. But a word-based game that skewers the language it is published in is insulting, and tells me that the makers of the game just don't give a damn.
Thanks for the effort, GOTD, but I've given up on DoubleGames. And thanks to all the stalwart souls who see the name "DoubleGames" yet still soldier on to try the game and post a warning for others.

Well, I gave it a try, despite the DoubleGames name, and it did live up to its reputation. The words aren't necessarily misspelled, it's that they've been European-ized, if I may coin the term. I played quest mode, which is sort of fun, but after my fourth or fifth puzzle, I got a REPEAT word list. How sorry is that? The quest mode wasn't really a quest, from what I could tell all it did was double your time remaining from the last round as your available time for the current round. I may not delete immediately, but I wouldn't pay for this one even if I was using YOUR credit card.

I’m not downloading the game today because I don’t like word searches with spelling errors, but I feel compelled to finally make a comment to the people who are always complaining about DoubleGames. If you look at their website, you can see there are thousands of games. Obviously, they are NOT the developer of all these games; they are just re-sellers. In fact, some of the games offered are the same ones as Alawar sells, and Alawar games have always received a positive response. One of the first offerings from GGotD was Ice Puzzle Deluxe from Alawar, which is still one of my favorite games to relax with. DoubleGames sells it, too. Don’t automatically dismiss a game and give it a thumbs down because you see the DoubleGames name!

That having been said, this is getting a definite thumbs down, per reason stated above. I can ignore spelling errors in the description of the game, but when it’s actually part of the gameplay?! This needed some more work before being released to the public.

#5 - every file you download from GGotD has a readme.txt text file inside it. Read the file and follow the directions inside it to install and activate your game. You have to install and activate the game the same day it's being given away - you can't download it and then wait to install/activate until the next day.

Be sure you read the text file, because sometimes the instructions are different. Sometimes you run activate.exe BEFORE you run setup.exe - sometimes you run it aferwards, and sometimes there's no activate.exe file at all. And once in a while, you'll need to take an extra step (like register on a website and get an activation code) to make it work.

The readme.txt file is your friend. It will tell you everything you need to know. It's actually best to read it every time, BEFORE you do anything. You'll find your life will become much easier and less frustrating. This is known as the RTFM Theory.

They have us accept a license, but they do not respect it. If an application installs extra stuff, it has to be mentioned, and it is not. Although, they are safe not to be sued since the extra junk it installs is just a bunch of shortcuts, not applications (at least that I know of), and since shortcuts are files, can't sue them.

Downloaded and activated just fine. the game I enjoyed, the font could be better, Does have the Options in the top right for easy game control during your play, Like when the Music starts to grate on your nerves, the Music is Lively, It does put those unwanted desktop Icons, but really I don't understand why people complain, it is just a drag and click away to get rid of them..for me it's no biggie. My 5 year old grand daughter will love this game, yes peter pan was spelled wrong.....oh well ...move on...lol this game I will be putting on my laptop for when I travel. Nice game...only thing is the font could be a bit more clearer

I love word search games, but this one is a bit less than appealing.
As mentioned before, the misspellings are annoying.
The problem with font size and readability is solved by choosing the smaller puzzle, but that makes it too easy, even with the misspellings. If there were an editor available to correct the word list, I might have kept the game, but this one disappoints me.
Thanks again for providing a chance to get free games GOTD!

*Read the 'Read Me' for EVERY DL from here; -they ALL -ALWAYS- say to 'ACTIVATE'-"FIRST"!!!!!!! --[unless its only a 'SETUP'-file,-then the activation is included.]
If your gonna trust someone I would trust GGAOTD -its their instructions, -they wrote it, -just follow their directions and you'll be ok.
-And always read the 'Read Me'-FIRST- 'cuz sometimes u have to Register the SW and it'll tell u how.

No, all the games on this site are for unlimited play - you just have to be sure you get them "activated". There are a few different ways to make that happen, but I'll just explain this one now and wait for a different type to go into the "how-to" on that one.

For today:

It sounds like you have the game up and running - so far so good! Now, close it and start the download process again.

When you get to the big box with:
Activate
Install
Read Me
Double click on Read Me (Always a good idea when downluading here and on the other site!)and then do what it says - double click "Activate" again. This should result in a little box popping up which says "Successfully Activated" or something that means the same thing. Then you should get a full-sized page that says something like "Antiquity Riddles has been successfully activated - Now what?" This means you're on the right track!

Now close that page and restart your game. If the day and time limits are gone, you're all set - but never assume you've got it right until you can bring up the game without the restrictions. Sometimes even when it says "Successfully Activated" it isn't until it opens without any restrictions.

Now, for the next time do this:
When you get to the box with the 3 icons (Activate, Install & Read Me)

1. Double click "Activate" - This will open another box with 3 icons with the same names, but that look a little different.

2. Double click "Install" - Follow the instructions in all the little installation boxes until you get to the last one which usually says "Finish" on the button.

3. Read the check boxes that are in that box and uncheck the one that says it will start the game. Then hit "Finish". That box will close and you will have an icon for the game on your desktop. Don't click it!

4. The big box with the 3 new icon should still be open - Double click "Activate". This should do just what it did today - and you should be all set. Leave everything the way it is on your desktop and open the game.

5. If the restrictions haven't been removed:
- Try "Activate" again
- Try double clicking "Istall" and starting that process up again

At some point the "Successfully Activated" should pop up. If it doesn't - come back here and read through the comments - chances are you aren't alone with your problem. If nobody else has said anything, write back and list what you did and what did or did not happen. Someone will help you.

Good luck, and enjoy the game!

I haven't kept any DoubleGames games yet. This is no exception. I don't like this one either. None of the words crosses other words (no words use the same letters). This makes each board easier after each word found. Takes the challenge out of it. The music is irritating. Yet another dud from DoubleGames. - JEB

after playing for an hour, a couple of suggestions. Put the word list in order for heavens sake. And the font is confusing, several letters look alike (not good at 4 in the a.m. or for kids)
Would really love to see a version of this that my granddaughter could play. And caught the PetterPan too, I almost quit then.

#5 The games are really free for unlimited time. All the games I've downloaded on here have been unlimited. I don't know which operating system you have.I usually have to "extract all files" and once that's done I have to press the "setup "icon. Once I've finished the setup look for the "activate" icon on that folder and it will give you the unlimited access that you are looking for. I hope this helps. I have xp.
