Dear users!
Unfortunately, due to technical issues, we had to close Amigdala giveaway earlier. We will try to make this game rerun some weekends later. We apologize for inconvenience.

Alexa, So I have wasted 1.5gb of my internet plan for something I can't use? That is very mean.

Alexa, See, THAT's why we don't like this new step of having to go thru Steam.

You don't need to go through Steam if you don't wish, just wait for the next non Steam game to be given away.

Alexa, I sure hope so! Tried repeatedly to download this morning, but couldn't get a Steam key.
Finally gave up when I had to go to work.
Tried again just moments ago, but now the giveaway has gone!

Alexa,
I entered in my email address this morning when there were 21 hours left on the offer and once again I did not get an email for the download link. If you're not going to send out the links to an email address, rather than going through FB, then don't offer that way of getting the link. This has happened multiple times to me since the format the this site was changed.

@Moderator, the problems associated with this giveaway are not just the undocumented steam component requirement but the age old issue of the 3rd party trying to manage activation using an inadequate non-tried and tested method instead of adapting the game build to function using the giveawayoftheday.com activation or wrapper protection system alone. Steam DRM system is not suited to GGAOTD activation volume. It's a failed experiment. BTW you may or may not be aware but this GGAOTD offering was not offered alongside the the normal giveaway on the main GAOTD site, only the unpopular join&win game competition was shown. Maybe the web-developers need to make sure both sites properly promote each others main offers and not just the unpopular join&win events. I personally agree with the original poster Rixxter. It was the steam DRM requirement that caused the giveaway premature failure, and steam DRM overheads is a very good reason to dislike the adoption of it by GGAOTD.

If you do want to reply to my comment please use the Reply link below and don't edit my post just to reply as that is not what the moderators edit message facility is for, it's to censor unaceptable content without discarding the entire comment, not hijacking other peoples comments.

Hi TK, thank you for your feedback. I must have seen a different page a si never saw a join and win page, just an input for name and email. From what i was aware of, everyone should have received a key. Obviously something went wrong and the giveaway team have removed the offer today. That's unfortunate for those that came later in the day. Hopefully, once Steam and Valve have sprted out a better way, we will see the game on offer again. Sadly some did abuse this system and applied for multiple codes while it was still live. Then as someone else has pointed out try to sell them, or exchange them for Steam trading cards that can then be sold via the Steam market. Very selfish people, which unfortunately we cannot stopunless they could allocate on IP address rather than email as most people would have static IP addresses. (though that is also open to abuse, but not as much as emails)

TK, sorry, now I have to reply to your post's Moderator Comment. :-o

That's exactly the main problem here: if you give away (unlimited) steam keys for free, this can, and thus *will* be abused. There is a reason why the popular pay-as-much-as-you-want sites request a mimimum amount, say $1, in hard cash for a steam key. People here shall give you an e-mail adress for a valid steam key. They will use disposable e-mail adresses, so you get nothing on you side, not even some kind of cusomer adress you can send adverstising (read: spam) to.

Please consider returning to the old, proven system: 24 hours hassle free download, activate on the same day. Get feedback.

Hi, I may be unlucky, but I have tried to download this by requesting an email link several times, but no luck. Is there a queue? or have the new batch of keys been used up?
I do appreciate the problem, but do I need to request the key periodically, or will the key be sent automatically once it is available again?

It may be that Valve haven't expaect the response and only allocated a certain number of keys. That's just an assumption tohugh. As I've already metioned elsewhere there was no mention of limits when i posted this morning.

There's no mention of limited numbers of activation codes for this game in the admin panel. If there is a problem, I'm sure the giveaway team will comment at some point today and hopefully sort it out soon.

I usually only see a couple of comments by this time in the day yet today i've been sitting at my compouter since the giveaway started trying to answer questions. It's almost lunch time here in the UK and there are still almost a hundred comments not moderated I still haven't had my breakfast. I will now only answer and moderate posts that contain a legitimate question. It may take me several hours as I do have to go out for most of this afternoon, but I will answer those.

I've tried to explain why I think Steam is worth installing. I will not replt to anymore comments that basically say Steam is not for them. If you don't want Steam installed that's your decision. all i can say is that refusing to install any game client will block you from playing some of the best games available today. Most AAA games noe require a client to be able to play them. If you're not that bothered about what games you play, there is still a wealth of indie games that are available from places like GOG that are drm free, but as we hurtle into the future most AAA games will no longer be playable without a client.

I'm just about to go out for the afternnoon. I will continue to moderate once i return this evening

This is a real giveaway, that is, everyone gets a key, that will enable you to install the game at any time on any computer anywhere in the world, instead of the 24 hour limitation the usual game giveaways have. The only prerequisite apart from giving your email and name is that you do require the Steam client to be able to play the game. The following paragraphs try to explain the Pro's and con's of having a Steam client.

I may post a review of todays game later, in the mean time you can read about the game, see images and a video HERE

Pro's and cons of installing the Steam client

By 2007, most AAA game developers had decided to use some sort of DRM due to losing millions through gamers hacking their games and basically stealing their property. There are now few AAA games available without DRM. Steam is just one DRM method, but it is so much more. It's obvious that I'm a Steam lover. The community is obviously split on this issue. Why you hate Steam, i really don't understand, but if you don't than that is your prerogative. All i can say is that since installing Steam seven years ago, I've moved away from buying most of my games as hard copies. you won't find many AAA games that don't have DRM attached, either via other clients such as Origin or uPlay, or having to sign into some sort of verification account such as Gamersgate or Direct to Drive.

Steam is one of the most secure clients around at this time. Valve, who own Steam (Valve are the creators of some of the biggest game franchises around for example Counterstrike, Left 4 Dead, DOTA and Team Fortress that have literally millions of games playing at any one time. When you sign up for a Steam account not only do you get a a great way to store your games, you get a fantastic community of dedicated gamers, who are there to help if you have any issues with a game. You also get a market where you can sell stuff that you get free when you play certain games, for example if you play any of Valves games you get items dropped while playing the game, some of which can be quite valuable. for example, some items will sell for hundreds of dollars, though most sell for cents. Many games available on steam now have Steam trading cards that you get free after playing the games. These can either be collected to create sets which can then be exchanged for discount coupons that can save you up to 66% off games, or you can sell the cards on the Steam market. I sold my first card almost 2 years ago and have made over £1400 (over $2000). There's no catch. Also games are kept up to date whenever a patch is released for that game. There is a workshop where modders can post their mods. If you want to add that mod to your game you just click the subscribe button and the mod is automatically added to your game. there are thousands of mods now available via the workshop for hundreds of games. Apart from all of the frills (there are others that I've not mentioned) you can install the client to any computer anywhere in the world, sign into your account and after verifying that it is you that owns the account (various security measures that protect your account) you can sign into your account and access all of your games. Oh and I nearly forgot, Steam has several different sales, some of which are weekly, some over a couple of days not to mention the major sales at Christmas and the summer sales where you can get games with up to 90% off. The weekly sale usually includes well over a hundred games that are on sale all week. There's a mid week sale and a weekend sale that usually includes a couple of games and at weekends there's often a a major title that you can play for free for three full days. There are also over a hundred free to play games available via the Steam client. A lot although free to play are what we call pay to win as to win you usually need to buy in game items to ensure your survival, that said, there are also loads of free games. I usually split free games up into Free to paly which are mainly multiplayer only games (though some free to play games also have a single player element and the second category are free games which are generally single player only. There are Steam groups within the Steam client that can tell you every free game available on Steam, you can also probably google it as well. If you don't yet have a steam account, installing it will give you access to this large resource of free games as well as fantastic sale bargains.

In my opinion it's a very neat way of storing your digital games with so much more to offer. For those giveaway community members who swear they will never install Steam and I presume any other client (such as Origin or uPlay) that attitude will deny you access to some of the best games available today and in the future.

Whenever there is change, there will always be those who oppose it. You just have to look through history to see those, e.g. the industrial revolution, the train and car. People actually died in those disagreements. and more recently and much less important, there are still those that argue that vinyl is better than digital (in some ways it is), cathode ray to LED monitors, diesel 'v' petrol etc etc. We can never satisfy everyone. To those that say they will never install Steam (an other clients), I don't see the gaming industry reverting back to the old ways. They lost billions because of people stealing their games. DRM is here to stay and you are missing out on some of the most amazing games I've ever seen and I've been around since the first computer based games were available to the general public. It's you choice and I respect that choice, so will say no more about it. To those that have no problem with Steam. We should look forwards to more Steam keys in the future, but most game giveaways will remain the same as we've always had.

I used to be totally against game clients. I actively refused to install them until one day I purchased some Steamworks games not realizing I'd have to install Steam to play them. I really wanted to play those games so I reluctantly installed the client (after writing a complaint to Valve about having been forced to installed the client, though in reality it was my choice), within a short time I realized the advantages of the client and now swear by Steam. The only downside i see with any game client is that you have to install the client in the first place before you can gain access to your games. once installed you have to create an account and unless you have set your computer to automatically log into your account which i don't as it's more secure that way) you have to log into your account. those are the only negatives I see with respect to using a game client. Opposed to that is the very large positive aspects to using a game client, which I've attempted to explain above. There are a lot more positives that i could expound upon, but this is meant to be a comments page for the actual game, so i will not labour the point any more today.

p.s. I did have one of the largest Steam libraries in the world at the time of posting this, with over 7500 games ( I was ranked 5th in the world and in the UK number 1 - {though as of 2021 I stopped buying games back in 2017 and am now way down the rankings; especially as there are still loads of indie bundles that include cheap games that fill up peoples accounts.) yet I didn't own todays game giveaway, what a fluke.

p.p.s. There is another free Steam game available at this time. You can find details in the Weekly roundup of game deals HERE

I have used GOGD for years. I am a workaholic, I am old, and I look forward to seeing what each weekends game will be. Not because it's free, I can afford to buy the game..it is more about the thrill of seeing what it's going to be.

I never consider downloading until I have read your review. I value your expert opinion, I sometimes read your review out loud to the older than me person here who also values your review. Sometimes I speed down to your overall rating scale and then start reading. It's nice to read about your family too, makes you more real.

Now I am going to go become a new Steam member. Thank you for explaining it so thou roughly. Thank you for taking time out of your weekend for us.

I have been a Farmvile player since day one. I remember when the first bot came out...everyone was in an uproar, I was skeptical. Then we started seeing all the free stuff, players opinions were changing. For me, a new 70 hr work week helped sway my decision. I have used 2 bots for 5 years or so, it's the only way I can keep up. I know there are people who don't like it but life is to short. We need to do what we enjoy.

There's also the old adage "You will never know until you try it." How can people have a negative opinion of something they have never tried?

Anyway WhiteRabbit, we smile at your commentaries we are thankful for the games. Many smiles..

Please excuse my very late reply. I had to take time out earlier today and when I arrived home wasn't feeling too well. My son has come down with something and I think it's spreading through the family. I'm trying to sift through the comments replying to those I deem deserve it.

Thank you for your kind words. Sadly I didn't get around to posting a review of today's game and am not sure I'm up to writng anything for tomorrows either. I do hate to let people down, but circumstances today have prevented me from doing so. If I've not posted a review by late afternoon I usually deem it pointless to spend hours researching, playing then writing up a review because the bulk of the community will have been and gone. Worry to have let you down today. I hope you and your older companions are having a pleasant day. You won't regret installing Steam. There is a fantastic community and there's thousands of games available to suite everyone. There's also loads of free games and when the main sales are on, virtually every game has discounts. You are welcome to send me a friends request if you wish. I'm always happy to receive those, tohugh sometimes it may take me a while to accept. My Steam name is Whiterabbit-uk, or Whiterabbit01, I have a second Steam account with the name Slickwhiterabbit (name derived from the song Whiterabbit sung by Grace Slick while with Jefferson Airplane in the late 1960's. If you let me know what your Steam account name is I'll look out for you. I get a lot of requests from community members begging for free games because when they see my account and check my inventory (where I have hundreds of games still to be added to Steam), they think I'll give them away. I tend to buy duplicates when they are on 75% or more off, especially if i think they are worth giving to friends as presents. If I don't reply or accept your friends request, post here to remind me. :)

We have a decent game tomorrow that has never been given away before. :)

I received an email today from Game Giveaway of the Day for this game, Amigdala. However the giveaway was conducted a week and a half ago. I have received other game giveaway emails lately for giveaways long since expired. I checked the header on the email and it was sent today (Date: Wed, 04 May 2016 09:03:01 +0000). I wish I knew why these emails are being sent to me late?

I tried to get a key the first time and no emails were sent to me. I got the link again today but it only leads to a download of the demo.

I installed the demo but it seems to have a lot of bugs with my system anyway. I got stuck in a position and couldn't move, The camera movement stopped working so it only moved about 20 degrees off centre. Then the menu wouldn't close so I couldn't do anything. Shame, it looks like it could be a good game. :(

Downloaded and installed, Steam is not a problem for me, but the game is. No sound. When I go to options, the Audio options are not available (and the text looks like it was squiggled out). Other Steam games work fine.

Hi JJ, not all of your coding will show up, what you need to do is take a screenshot and post that.

TO THE COMMUNITY

There has been almost 250 comments today. Everytime I answer a comment I have to scroll through up to 15 pages to get back to where I am. It's very time consuming, so my final comment of this giveaway now that it has been cancelled is that despite the many negative comments and those that failed to get a key, well over 12000 community members did get keys. Unfortunately not many of those bothered to comment on the game, in fact I think there was only a couple of comments made about todays game.

It does look like some unscrupulous community members have been farming some of those 12 000 keys that were given away. Basically applying for a key using multiple emails could have netter some members tens of codes, which they can trade on various sites dedicated to Steam codes. Very selfish I know, but sadly something we have no control over. Someone has posted a couple of images showing a particular community member gloating over the fact he got three keys and was offering keys for Steam cards, which can then be sold on the Steam market for cash. I've made over £1400 selling Steam cards on the market. Everytime you play a Steam game that has trading cards you get cards dropping (only a certain number for each game), plus each week you get a booster pack of one of the games you have in your Steam library. Some cards can sell for several dollars or even more if they are rare cards.

Tomorrows game is a 'normal' game giveaway, so we shouldn't have these problems. I'm not sure whether i'll be well enough to post a review of the game, but i will continue to moderate as normal.

I had luck and no luck.
I did get a key.
But I did not have a Steam account; so I get one.
That was not as easy as I thought, because the captcha code was hard to read.
And when it went wrong, there was not immediate clear what was wrong: name? captcha code? mail . .
At the end I did have a account.

So steam could be installed 130Mb:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/4y0g4f54e40uifc/SteamProg.png?dl=0
Then there a quest to put the key in the right place.
And then there was a download of 1,5Gb instead of the promised 0,741Gb
https://www.dropbox.com/s/vw1hzbkwgw0ww16/SpelDownload.png?dl=0
After all the game was installed.
The game don't start fast. Also the next step took it's time.
And this laptop is ok, up to date and enough power etc.

When I tried to get this game (without Facebook) the link which I was directed said the game had expired. It was only available on April 23, 2016, which is today. In fact in the Eastern Time Zone (US) where I am, it's only 4:30. I assume that the publisher just gave up.

And I have Steam and use it for several games.

The problem isn't steam. The problem is it is STEAM .. Ok let me explain. your normal giveaways of a drm free game no one wants. Well hardly no one. When you offer a steam game because you don't ip and proxy filtering you get the same person grabbing 1,000 copies (no I am not exaggerating) so they can sell or trade them later. They will literally keep using dif emails and proxy ip's to keep grabbing copies until they are gone. there are even programs for this purpose you can download.

................................Moderator Comment.................................

Mike is absolutely right; there are Steam users who will grab as many free codes as they can only to sell them off to other community members at a later date. they also buy hundreds of those indie bundles I mention in the Weekly Round up of games because for virtually nothing they can buy $100 worth of games that they can sell for a profit.

Are all your free games going to go through Steam? I've had nothing but problems with free games downloaded through their site and my security software removed their software from my computer as a virus. Please go back to the old way with zip files. Less steps, less hassle.

................................Moderator Comment.................................

Hi Michelle, no, not all games are going to be Steam keys. As I've mentioned before, the giveaway team cannot secure games every week. It seems like recently there has been a drout of giveaway games so the giveaway team have resorted to other ways of getting games. Steam would not give literally tens of thousands of keys simply becasue once that key has been added to your Steam account you own it forwever; whjeras the usual game giveaways technically are only yours until you reinstall your operating system or upgrade to another computer.

Lately this once great service has gone into decliine - first with the move to weekends only then with free games that are in reality a chance to win one of a limited number of games and now a giveaway that ends hours before the deadline. I dare say it is not the fault of GGOTD but I think its important that they give warning to these devious games companies that they will no longer distribute their games if they cannot fulfill their oblligation. It seems fairly clear that Steam in particular are the worst offender hoping no doubt to pique enough interest to later sell a license or at least bombard you with spam. I think that you shoulsd give steam just one more chance and if they fail agasin end your relationship with them and concentrate on finding genuine give aways

................................Moderator Comment.................................

They haven't gone into decline. The problem lies with the fact that hardly anyone wants to give games away to a community that firstly thinks it's entitled to free games and a community that only seems to comnplain about the games they get. As I've tried to explain many times and even posted a request at the end of every review until this February, if the community posted decent reviews of the games they got, this site would have attracted many more developers as good reviews are a positive resource for developers. I've asked time and time again for the community to respond th=o that request. Any sort of review that discusses the game, it's pro's and cons and suggestions for improvement was what i've asked for for years. There have been some community members thta have tried to help, but the majority couldn't be bothered.

We are still getting free games, and as long as we do, this site is still one of the best there is. Personally I already have most of the games given away here and those I don't I don't really need as I have so many other games to play. My Steam account alone has a library of over 7500 games, many of which are classics, plus I have several other game accounts with thousands of other games and a hard disk collection of hundreds, so these games given away here are neither here or there for me as I'm always playing the latest and best games; (that I pay for).

I continue to volunarily moderate here and write reviews because despite the moaners, there is a great community of excellent people that I have come to care about.

before anyone comments about things being free I would point ouit that no one holds a gun to the companies head to distribute a free game it is supposed to be goodwill and a promotional gesture and as such they should treat peop0le as they do paying cusatomers (other than restrictions advertised such as no support or free updates)

I never did get the email link to download. Oh well, maybe next time.

............................Moderator Comment..............................

Neither did I. I think it may have to do with the browser you use. Some have said Firefox and/or Chrome don't work if you request a key using those browser, then again some have said they haven't had aproblem. I've never been able to get anything from the giveaway using my email. Tried countless times and never received a jot. I'm going to boot up I.E. and see if that works???)

Swell, now all you get is a demo or you can pay full price for the game. Thanks GOTD!

............................Moderator Comment..............................

The giveaway team have never given demos. Every one of their games has been full version. If it was a demo, don't you think the community would be posting loads of comments complaining about it?

So basically if you were not sitting on top of this page when the giveaway happened you are just out of luck. Seriously this is not the way to treat people that have been loyal to your sites for years and even let you put your posts on their facebook feed. I understand that not everything you give away is going to be my cup of tea but I look to see what the offering is. If I don't like, I wait patiently for the next one and don't complain because somebody out there just thought that was the greatest game ever and was grateful you offered it. If you are going to offer a game it should be unlimited for the whole 24 hour period. Very disappointed this round. It might have been a really cool game.

Downloaded 1.5GB file, clicked on Amigdala_Game key.exe and waited for something to happen.
Nothing installling, no activity in task manager, no indication of what needs to be done.
Can someone explain what needs to happen to get this to run properly?
I have Steam but normally just get a key emailed and activate the new programs on Steam.
With a 1.5 GB file, I assumed the game would be installed on my computer and already activated?

A few years ago I tried to set up a Steam account to take advantage of some game giveaway. It just would not let me create an account. Their "support" staff were of no help at all, giving responses that had no relevance to the issue I was having as though they hadn't even read my query. The wasted hours left me so frustrated that I can't make myself go through that process again.
Hopefully tomorrow will bring a more traditional GGAOTD offering.

Hi Jerry, what sort of problem was you having. I've never heard of anyone having problems installing the Steam client nor creating a free account. It's in Valve sinterest to get as many community members as possible. The more they have the more potential revenue they can expect.
