Hmmm … Feeling a bit conned here. I’ve just played through the whole of ‘Alien Shooter - The Experiment’ and it’s EXACTLY the same download as ‘Alien Shooter’ offered on 04/04/2007 EXCEPT the file size is much bigger. Folk at Giveawayoftheday … the screen shsots shown for Alien Shooter - The Experiment are different from those for Alien Shooter but when the game is played, both are identical. Curious that you haven’t seen fit to respond to ANY of my messages here which is a shame really becuase I always thought of you as something rather special :(

This version of Alien Shooter - The Experiment is exactly the same as Alien Shooter that was available for download some time back, right? The only thing that appears to have changed is the boot-up screen which has added the 'The Experiment'. When I start Alien Shooter - The Experiment, I get the same old version I already had downloaded some time back from GoTD. I noticed that the screenshots are different for 'The Experiment' version but when played, it's EXACTLY the same as Alien Shooter. So what's the deal here? Is this supposed to be correct because if it is then really I would have prefered that someone at GOTD had mentioned it.

sialkotee, please make sure that you not in "Work offline" mode, you need active internet connection to activate the game, and, if it is possible, try to bypass any proxy servers.

Unfortunaltely, I can't comment on a game because by the time I download it, it is very late and sometimes just enough time to activate it. I just got to try yesterday's and it seems pretty good. Since I don't play shooters like this much, it should last me quite a while. I would rate the game about 8 based on the character being so tiny. A larger character such as Emily Grace would be great. Thanks G-men! Note - rating of yesterday's 8 of 10.

#48 - "Retro' - Please READ the 2 sentences below "Leave a comment".
- You failed to "comment only the software here".
- If you really want GGOTD to know what you like and don't like ---
"Suggestions" --- "please leave us a note in our FORUMS".
There are topics listed there that are more appropiate to "sound off" with suggestions. (and whine) 8-) The topics there are not replaced with each days offer.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The controls for "Alien Shooter" use your mouse mainly. The keyboard use is limited and not as demanding or distracting as many.
There's not much more I could add to #35 Whiterabbit aka Stephen's very thorough review and tips. Thanks !
Unplayable
Same problem as Casey - I posted details on the forum section of this site.
Game takes longer than I'd expect to load, then when it does, there's no text in any of the menu boxes. I guess and get into what I assume is a shop or equipment screen with male/female and all those boxes are blank as well. I guessed enough boxes to play the game but all there is is a targetting circle and ammo flying, no characters or anything show up.
Something is definitely wrong with the installation, not getting all the files working or something. Any technical support for this before the time runs out to fix it?
Thanks anyway, but here we go again, another game I can't play on my computer. I saw no notation that a 3D graphics card was needed for this game; here are the requirements from this very site, from the top of this page:
Windows 98/ME/2000/XP; CPU: 600MHz or faster Processor;RAM: 128 MB
Where does it say 3D graphics card? I didn't know until I installed it and it automatically opened up a "readme" file within the install...I can't imagine how badly running it would have otherwise affected my computer.
PLEASE, if you're going to post a game, list ALL of the requirements for game play! What a waste of time and bandwidth to download and install this.
Why "whine"? (and there's not that much whining going on, really. C'mon now.)
The reason is because we want GGOTD to know what we like and don't like, so we'll get more games we DO like.
Imagine if every day GGOTD put up a game that's utter crap because they never heard any complaints from us and never realized what they're doing is not appreciated. GGOTD would be a memory fairly soon.
By receiving BOTH GOOD AND BAD feedback, GGOTD gets the well-rounded information and input they require to make good decisions and to find us the games that will also make them a success.
Stop whining about the whiners! THEIR VOICE IS IMPORTANT, even if the way they express themselves isn't the most appropriate.
To those people complaining that today's game is identical to yesterday's:
Alien Shooter (Campaign 1) is the base game, and part of both today's and yesterday's download.
Fight For Life (Campaign 2) is the first expansion-pack for Alien Shooter, and part of yesterday's download.
The Experiment (Campaign 3) is the second expansion-pack for Alien Shooter, and part of today's download.
Clear?
Well Hempman said it all. Why do people whine if it is free? dont download it? sometimes things are offered on here twice for a reason. Mabe somebody missed it the first day. Quityerbitchin. Its free. Dont be ungrateful. Some people always want more..more......and more.....
if its free, then you have no reason to complain.
Hell i was thinking get the gun out an fire away but got owend like hell.
@28 to use Zsnes or any other emulator is only allowed if you own that game you want to play in real life, so your suggestion is pointless (but you are right to say the whiners to shut up)
Additionally, if you wish to copy your saves, scores and settings from Fight For Life to The Experiment, open Regedit and move
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ETeam\SW
to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\ETeam\SW
Alternatively, you can copy the AlienShooter.cfg file from Fight For Life to your The Experiment install, overwriting the existing one.
Alien Shooter is awesome!
By the way, if you downloaded both today's version and yesterday's, you can copy the following files from Fight For Life into The Experiment to get all three campaigns in one install:
Maps\ADDON\*.*
Text\addon_*.txt
Vid\954_*.bmp
Vid\957_*.bmp
Wav\keyb_*.wav
Also, the logo is at Vid\game_logo.bmp if you wanna replace the one version with the other. Myself, I'm using the original Alien Shooter logo, copied out of the demo version.
That's a really good point Ballpeen. I changed my installation of the game yesterday to Alien Shooter-Fight for life during set up because i thought it may affect the first game.
After reading your comment I decided to risk seeing if the game would ovewrite the original game and found as Ballpeen suggested, the game does overwrite yesterdays, but incorporates campaign 2 into the game. great stuff. Thanks for that Ballpeen. I did wonder why they kept putting the same levels in each game. :)
I forgot to mention (again) the characters can be controlled using either the mouse or the keyboard. Using the right mouse button for movement, you can click on a specific area of the map and your character will go there, but only line of site and not through fences. Wherever the cursor is placed on the map the character will face towards it. So if you've selected and clicked a spot to run to, once it's instigated, you can run backwards, thus shooting the chasing enemy. Once you re click the right button though the character will go to wherever the cursor is, unless you click again, in which case the character will stop moving. Also you can't fire your weapon through the wire mesh fences.
mine attempts to install in the same folder as "Alien Shooter".
Program Files\Sigma Team\Alien Shooter
Will it over-write the files or add to the existing files like an expansion pack?
Unfortunately none of the addresses provided by my image host will work via word press however if you wish to see the images, just click on the ones I’ve adjusted. :)
You’ll find two campaigns, the first of which is exactly the same as campaign 1 from yesterday. The third campaign is more of the same stuff, but as with campaign 2 from yesterday you get a 5 page story line before you start the campaign, then a bit of a surprise. The scenarios look similar, but you will notice an immediate difference in the size and number of aliens attacking you, so make sure you pick up the shotgun that’s laying nearby your initial spawn point; you’ll find it next to the dead guy. The Survival mode is again the same as yesterdays and the original giveaway Alien Shooter.
The set up is a little easier than yesterdays, with no round about way of getting a shortcut, and it’s correctly named as well.
The initial games window gives you the option of changing the screen resolution, but as with all these games they are limited to:
640x480
800x600
1024x768
You can also change the color of the alien’s blood from green to red, which may help to reduce the scariness for those that are much too young to play this game. (Changing the graphical level to low will reduce some of the gore as well) This can be locked by a password.
This game plays on all three of my computers in the study, the oldest graphics card is an ATI 9200 128MHz, which is several years old now, so most of you out there should have no problems running this. I disconnected the graphics card from one of the computers and the on board emulator worked fine. (From an Asus A7V400-MX motherboard, that’s at least 3 years old and doesn’t even support ASA HDD’s)
Start Menu:
http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n61/Whiterabbit_01/gaotd/mainmenu.gif
Clicking on the okay button will take you to the usual start menu. The options menu is restricted with only the music, sound effects and graphical detail controls available; however there are further controls deeper within the game. You can set the graphics to low, medium or high. There is an obvious difference between the low and high settings. With the higher setting the gore from the aliens as they are being shot is more distinct and the shadows on game objects such as the tractor in the survival level are much better as is the sharpness of the game.
As explained briefly yesterday, setting the screen resolution to the highest setting will give you more of the surrounding area within the game screen, but for those with poor eye sight the lowest setting may be the best as your character and surroundings appear larger; although you do lose some of the playing area on screen.
There is an option for continuing with a previous game, however you can’t save the game at any point, rather there are specific points in the game where it will be saved to. These aren’t too far apart so don’t worry, you’re not going to lose any significant amount of play if you just decide to stop playing for whatever reason. A good rule of thumb would be to end once a particular stage has been completed and only after you have progressed to the next level.
Character and Campaign Selection:
http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n61/Whiterabbit_01/gaotd/campaignandcharactermenu.gif
Clicking on new game will take you to another selection screen where you can choose your character. There are two; a male and female, both have different attributes such as strength, hit points speed and accuracy. Basically the male is stronger (meaning he can carry more) and has more hit points, but the female is faster and more accurate. Placing your mouse cursor over the character will highlight the attributes.
You enter your name in the appropriate box then select the mode you wish to play. There are three modes, Campaign 1 and the Survival mode are repeats of the original game and yesterdays, and the other campaign is number three in the series.
http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n61/Whiterabbit_01/gaotd/weaponsandequipmentscreen.gif
Once you’ve chosen your mode you will be presented with a screen (not in the survival mode) that allows you to buy specific weapons or equipment as well as attributes, which are very expensive. Attributes include Red implants that give you improved hit points, Blue implants that improves strength and stamina, allowing you to carry more ammo, Yellow implants increases the speed at which you move and react and the Green implants improve your accuracy and the power of your weapons. You start with $20, so these implants, which can be upgraded up to three times for each of the four attributes are well out of your price range at the start up of the game because each implant (there are 12 to buy) cost between $1200 to $1900 each, but there is plenty of opportunity to find cash within the game, (usually in $50 wads) by shooting at boxes, or later, once inside the buildings and labs, just laying around on desks or the floor. You can also find weapons and ammo as well as some of the equipment within the game. IMO it is better to save the cash to buy improvements to your implants as all the weapons will eventually be found in game; the better ones later of course. The weapons range from your default pair of pistols with unlimited ammo, to a shot gun that costs $200, to a magma mini gun that costs $25 400. There are eight different weapons plus ammo packs to be found or purchased apart from your pistols. Equipment includes armor of varying strengths, life packs, night vision goggles, med kits (Med kits can be found in different sizes, and some will disappear after a specific time once uncovered) and a drone which follows you around and kills anything moving within a certain range.
The introductory music is the same in all versions of the game, but each mode has a different sound track to accompany you in game. It seems to fades in and out appropriately as and when the action becomes heated, (or it seems to whenever I play the game). Its appropriate and atmospheric music, but as I said yesterday, It’s better turned down to a low level (IMO), although I’m sure there are some of you who will like it blasting out of your speakers, or headphones. Surround sound doesn’t seem to be supported on my audio card, (SB Audigy 2 ZS), but I may be wrong because my speakers are the weak link in the sound system (cheapo ADK Nordics). Sound effects are reasonable, and the overall quality of the graphics is acceptable IMO.
Thank you GGAotD and the Sigma Team for this replacement game. Keep up the great work on this project.
I give another 6 out of 10 for adult playability. As an isolated game I think it’s worth downloading, but unless you are a fan o this sort of game, this game is basically the same as Alien Shooter, Alien Shooter-Fight for Life and Theseus-Return of the Hero.
For those interested in cheating the following cheats can be used, but this will end the game much quicker than it’s worth. However I’m sure some of you will be tempted, lol:
Cheat List
• complete level: In game mode enter "cheate" on your keyboard.
• 1000 hp: In game mode enter "cheath" on your keyboard.
• all weapons: In game mode enter "cheatw" on your keyboard.
• 1000 ammo: In game mode enter "cheata" on your keyboard.
• + 50 000 money: In the shop "cheatm" on your keyboard.
In Survive mode codes do not work.
I was going to post a video of me doing this morning's happy dance on my website, but I did not think it was a good idea to frighten so many people. I just demo'd this and I an ecstatic that a full free version is being offered today.
I notice that the whiners are already out, so I feel compelled to point out the THOSANDS of FREE game console games, like QBert, Kirby, Tivial Pursuit, Pac Man, Ms Pac Man and many, many others out there.
First, check out my message http://game.giveawayoftheday.com/alien-shooter-fight-for-life/#comment-14058.
Go to the Emulator section. You should download something like ZSNES (Super Nintendo Entertainment System). Create a folder under c:\Program Files named SNES and copy the downloaded emulator there. Unzip and run the installer.
Now, create a folder in the same directory named ROMS. Put all of your downloaded SNES games in there. Don't bother unzipping, ZSNES will do that when necesary.
Run ZSNES. You may have to set game resolution (It comes up in a small, windowed format). I find 800X600 DS F works best for me. Go to Config > Video and select and set the resolution.
Now, select Game > Load, and in the right hand column find the directory ROMS. The games you downloaded will be in the left hand column. Open and play.
Keys are asd zxc for shoot, etc. cursor keys move you around in the game play, and return starts. You can even remap the keyboard and some games you can use the mouse or joystick or gamepad.
Repeat this process for Kega under Sega Emulators and games. Since Kega emulates all Sega games, it even uses your CD drive to load Sega games. Once you install Kega, look at the file menu. I find it simpler to seperate the games by what version the game is. Under ROMS, I have directories for Game Boy, 32X, Mega System, SMS, etc.
Just remember to put the games in the right directory when you download it.
Now, go find the games you want and STOP WHINING!
I have to ask, exactly how many times have whiney requests for one special game or another been fullfilled?
Someone else said "Robbox", and I'll second that it was one of the best GGOTD's ever offered. Now that I'm on a new computer and couldn't transfer it over, I'd love to have it again if you ever run out of fresh material. :)
Downloading it to try it, but it sounds from the description that it's an expansion pack, not a new game. Correct??
It's exactly the same as yesterdays game!!! The only difference I saw was the name.
Very cool, yesterday was my first exposure to AS. I started in mission 3 today and it whooped my butt! I now have a challenge. Been a while since I had a game challenge me like this...
Thanks so much GGOTD!
