Giveaway of the Day,

Something really has to be done about these people spamming the site. Some of the language used is disgusting and obviously not appropriate for a family site such as this. If it continues you'll lose many of the decent people who visit here, all becasue of a few community members.

We really need the tech team to add the VPN blocker plug-in that I know is available for WordPress to stop these unwelcome guests. I spent over 12 hours from this morning moderating with hardly a break after sorting through over 500 spam comments. I've taken a couple of hours out to help my children with their revision and come back to another 100+ spam comments, some of which have left disgusting comments. Please get this sorted soon. I'm not willing to spend so much time on a volunteer basis moderating to such an ungrateful crowd of people much longer.

Whiterabbit-uk, may I suggest that as admin you switch on captcha plugin/feature on all posts, that will slow down the spam posts a little, make it take more of their time to consume yours.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi TK

Thanks for the suggestion, however, I don't have that privilege, I can only access certain parts of the Admin panel that enable me to edit comments, blacklist etc. With almost 700 spam comments on Saturday, I'm hoping the giveaway tech team will finally add a VPN blocker, but as I've already asked a few times previously, not sure whether it will be done as I'm sure many genuine community members are also using VPN connections .

Reply   |   Comment by TK  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-5)

Whiterabbit-uk, why would a genuine community member require VPN to access GAOTD comments section? Especially on the English language page of a SSL site... There is no risk to login credentials due to always SSL access on pages that require login so no risks over an open access wi-fi service, and no English speaking country has governmental censorship that would bar direct access to the site... I can see no legit reason for a genuine commentor to need to hide behind a VPN endpoint. Even static IP use is no reason to hide behind a VPN as GAOTD have never abused my use of a static IP since my first use of the site back when it began... Only reasons left to use one or more VPNs to access the comments section are nefarious. Vote rigging, IP ban circumnavigation, other illegal activity they don't want reported to their true ISP e.g. attempted denial of service of moderated comments section by mass spamming.. My vote goes to not being scared to add spammers VPN endpoint IP numbers to a banned IP list as no one legitimate needs that VPN endpoint IP to access the website..

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

I agree with you TK; personally I've never considered using one even though I believe they have been offered on the other side of the project (though it may have been one of the other free sites that I sometimes visit such as BitsDuJour and Failmids site) as I have nothing to hide and never keep anything I consider sensitive on my computers. Someone did mention the other day (one of the people I now deign to call a community member) that on the applications site a gotd staff member did suggest using a VPN connection; whether this is true I don't know as I don't often visit the applications side of the project now and rarely read any of the comments.

Unfortunately Steam keys have become very popular now that many Steam community members know about the giveaways here. There's always at least seven million and up to 14 million Steam members online (at weekends and holidays) at anyone time. News feeds, Steam groups and Steam key giveaway sites all advertise free Steam keys as well as friends messaging friends almost as soon as these giveaway Steam keys go live, so competition for the keys is increasing as time passes. The developer gave thousands of keys away, the game costs almost $10 so it's unlikely that the giveaway team can secure more keys but that is uncertain, so lets hope they do manage to get more keys.
As a consolation you can get another of Sigma Teams games totally for free, called Theseus - Return of the Hero. It's basically the same type of game as Alien Shooter 2 except it was released several years before Alien Shooter and was converted to freeware shortly after Alien Shooter was released. It's basically the same game play mechanics, just a little dated compared to Alien Shooter 2, but still as good. It's drm free and not a Steam key.

Sundays game will also be a Steam key. I'm not sure if it is a limited giveaway or a global one, but I don't see any limited numbers quoted in the Admin panel, so it's more likely to be the latter. Still, I would try to be early to avoid disappointment. As soon as the giveaway goes live, the Steam groups and sites will be advertising the giveaway. Of course it also depends on how many keys we are given. :)

With respect to today's giveaway, If more keys are forthcoming and you continue to have problems completing the two tasks, which several community members have reported (I also had the issue) , try a different browser as other community members report that doing so solves the problem.

To those securing a key, please only post comments about the game being given away today; other comments either not appropriate, or not about the game may be deleted at the moderator or administrators discretion; however a little light banter among community members and with the moderator to keep this a friendly place to visit will be allowed, and will be judged by the moderator as to whether it is suitable or not to be left.
I am posting this in light of the massive increase in negative comments not related to the game being given away, inappropriate comments and spam (Almost 400 spam comments have been posted in the six hours this giveaway went live this morning ) that have occurred over the past several months since the site was updated and in particular since the site started to give away games from the Steam world and since they started using Facebook. I truly believe that if we get lots of decent feedback about the games we get here, more developers will be happy to give away their games. Seeing lots of complaints (and spam) instead of feedback about the game will not persuade developers to give their games away for free. So please bear this in mind when posting your comments. Negative feedback about the games given away is always welcomed as that can also be very constructive for developers, however, complaining about the way the site is operating or problems about downloading or installing the games should be directed to the giveawayoftheday contact form which I've linked to HERE, alternatively, if the problem is game related and it is late in the day (I can't moderate 24 hours a day), please also post your issue in the forums where you may get a response from the community. Often, such problems are related to your computers set up. i.e. your security may block the installation (for example quite a few game giveaways I've installed have been blocked by my copy of Zemana Anti-malware suite) Also please read the moderation policy which can be found HERE and if you do have a problem please check the FAQ's thread HERE. Thank you.

Alien Shooter 2 - Conscription

In Brief

A top down shooter which was given away back in June as a limited giveaway of 50 key, this time a global giveaway. You just have to like on Facebook and Steam to get a Steam key..

Alien Shooter 2 003
Alien Shooter 2 018
Suggestions:

Once you've had time to play Alien Shooter 2: Conscription please give some feedback about your opinion of the game (even after the giveaway has ended), for example, what did you like or dislike about the game, or how it could be improved from your point of view . If you don't like this genre at all, please explain why. What, improvements, if any, would change your opinion? There are thousands of subscribers to the game giveaway of the day every weekend which makes this an ideal forum for giving developers ideas as to what their consumers (i.e you) would like to see in a game. For example, you could suggest extra content such as better or more original mini games, or a level editor that you would like to see that would make it more appealing to you. Maybe you think the graphics are a little dated and are in need of re skinning, or maybe you've just had enough of the genre and want to see something different or something with more originality?

If you miss this giveaway which ends Sunday morning 15th January 2017 and don't mind playing games via Steam, you can get the game 24/7 via Steam HERE. It costs £6.99/$9.99. If you liked this game a lot and want to get more, there are four more games available via Sigma or Steam in the Alien Shooter 2 franchise, plus more if you want zombies. i.e. Alien Shooter (£3.99$4.99), Alien Shooter TD (usually £6.99/$9.99, but 25% off till 20th Jan), Alien Shooter: Revisited (£3.99$4.99), Alien Shooter 2: Reloaded (£3.99$4.99), Zombie Shooter (£3.99$4.99), Zombie Shooter 2 (£6.99/$9.99), or you can get three of the five not being given away here today plus Zombie Shooter in the sigma's Shooter pack for only £10.99 HERE. There's others such as Zombie Shooter 2 (£6.99/$9.99). Also included are other games not from Steam, but from the same developer some of which have a different perspective, such as HERE, Alien Shooter - The Experiment (£10.66) and Alien Shooter - Fight for Life (£10.66). You can also get one of the first of these games developed by Sigma and which was given away in the first year of the giveaway project called Theseus - Return of the Hero. It is now freeware and can be downloaded directly from the developers site Theseus - Return of the Hero. You'll also find an excellent breakout developed by Sigma that they converted to freeware several years ago called Chaks Temple

Customize the build order of towers and use upgrades wisely. Use electric shock, bombard the enemies or support your towers via adrenalin injections. Summon a mighty Golem to stop enemies like the Flu and Cold viruses, as well as kidney stones, cancer and a multitude of other enemies (23 different enemies in total).

Installation:

Once you've found your Steam key (should be sent to the first email you used to post comments on the gamegiveaway comments section, If you've used a throwaway email there may be problems getting a key. ) You have to activate the game via your Steam client. Once activated it will be permanently tied to your Steam profile and you'll be able to install the game at any time, anywhere on any computer, so long as you can validate who you are via email (this was added as a security measure to protect your Steam account from hackers who used to hack intom accounts to steal any items of value from your Steam inventory, for example I have thousands of Steam trading cards,as well as around 450 spare games worth thousands of pounds). If you don't have a Steam account you will first have to download and install the Steam client HERE

Then create a Steam profile/account. Once that has been completed you can input the Steam code that you've received (after completing the form filling) via the game button along the top of the Steam client, (located between friends and Help - see image below). From the drop down menu select 'Activate a product on Steam'. This opens a product activation window. Just follow the prompts to complete activation. Once the Steam code has been accepted, the game will be permanently associated with your Steam account and can be installed any time you wish.

If you have a problem installing or activating or getting Alien Shooter 2: Conscription to work, please visit the problems section over in the Game Discussion forums, which I've now incorporated into the FAQ's thread, and which you can find HERE

Alien Shooter 2 008
Alien Shooter 2 009
The Game:

Key Features:

Huge crowds of enemies, more than 100 aliens on one map at a time.

Ability to upgrade the main character's parameters.

More than 60 weapon types, including sniper rifles.

Lots of auxiliary devices, including radar and battle drones.

Several types of vehicles to drive.

Three game types: Campaign, Survive, Gun Stand.

Alien Shooter 2: Conscription is the fifth and final game in the Alien Shooter series. It is an isometric shooter developed and published by the developer Sigma-Team. It has some improvements over the original Alien Shooter and is typical fun over the top action. As usual with Sigma-Team's games, the plot is secondary and barely exists. Before the game action starts you can select one of several perks that include

Self Treatment:Enables you to recover health over time without having to pick up health packs.

Quick Learner: Enables you to spot hidden items easier as well learning faster.

Economist: Allows you to find cash easier and in more places (very useful as it enables you to buy better upgrades or new weapons a the start of each level).

Night Vision: No need for your flashlight in dark places.

Vampire: Enables you to draw health from enemies to add to your own.

Hypnotist: Enables you to hypnotize and control enemies.

Observer: Lets you spot hidden things and secret places.

Boxer: Gives you serious close combat skills using your fists.

Alien Shooter 2 010
Alien Shooter 2 011
You find that the facility is overrun with Aliens and you must kill them all using various up-gradable weapons. At start of the first level you initially encounter friendlies, who advise you check the basement for weapons and cash. you'll find lots of cash and spare ammo in the rooms adjacent to the starting area; check all of these rooms to pick up all of the items. At the beginning of each level (of which there are ten large levels each with a different objective that has to be completed) you can buy new equipment, weapons, weapon upgrades, armor using the cash you've found in previous levels as well as increase your stats. You gain experience for killing enemies. For each level up you gain a stat point you can distribute at the start of the new level.

At the start of the game you encounter only the most basic of Aliens; however, as you progress through the levels, they become harder to kill with the addition of new and more powerful Aliens.

Money is obtained from secrets, destructible objects, completing levels and sometimes it is dropped by enemies. Enemies also drop ammunition and health pickups as well as power-ups such as mega health and temporary invulnerability.

Alien Shooter 2 012
Alien Shooter 2 013
Overall game play isn't much different to previous incarnations of Alien Shooter (or Zombie Shooter). Though the graphics are better. The level design is mainly the same old assets from previous games plus some new additions. If you played Sigma-Team's previous games you will have seen most of it before, that said, if you just want some mindless 'fun' shooting Aliens, this will certainly sate your appetite.

There are two main modes Campaign with 10 levels to work through, and where you can upgrade your weapons and improve your character. and Survival mode that has two sub modes called Gun Mode and Stand firm.

The idea behind Stand Firm is to survive as long as you can while killing as many zombies and scoring as many points as possible. It starts off quite slowly with only small groups of weaker enemies appearing, but as you progress tougher enemies begin to make an appearance and multiply. At the end of each wave, there is a boss variation of a monster to defeat that will drop a more powerful weapon. Each enemy has a chance of dropping items, upgrades, and power-ups just like in the campaign.

In Gun Stand you control a turret in the middle of a map. Aliens start rushing from all directions. You must survive as long as possible while killing as many Aliens as possible. After killing a certain amount of Aliens you will be able to set off a nuke, killing any that are near you.

Alien Shooter 2 014
Alien Shooter 2 015
Options:

Graphic detail can be changed from high to medium and low (usually dependent on your graphic card RAM) if you have a low end system you can also turn off shadows. Blood can be changed from red to green and resolution can be changed from 800 x 600, 1024 x 768, 1280 x 780 and 1280 x 800, with four difficulty levels i.e. easy, medium, heard, impossible as well as sliders for sound effects voice volume and music. You can turn off in game as well as slow or speed up any in game text messages.

Your game character can be controlled either using your mouse or keyboard. There are almost 20 keyboard commands, some of which are also tied to your mouse for example changing weapons can be accomplished using the mouse wheel, the central mouse button (mouse wheel can also bring up your inventroy, or if you are using a cannon or vehicle is used to enter or exit. Check your logs via L, use a flashlight via F and take a screen capture via F9. You can even hid the interface using Tab. All of the keyboard commands can be seen via the options menu and all are also reconfigurable.

You can find a whole bunch of cheat codes for this game on Sigma's official game page HERE for example extra ammo, skip a level, kill on monsters on the map, killl all monsters within 1000 pixels on the map, increase all skills to 100 or 200 (not perks), extra cash (10 000) though codes don't work in survival mode. There's also several trainers and unlockers available from GameCopy World HERE. (I've downlloaded no CD fixes for various hard copies of games that enable you to play DVD/CD versions of games without having to place the disk into the disk reader as well as various trainers that give extra ammo, unlimited health (useful when you find a game too difficult to beat)

You can see Steam community reviews of Alien Shooter 2: Conscription HERE as well as other news and images of the game HERE. If you want to see some game-play you can see some videos HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE and HERE.

Conclusion:

If you didn't win one of the keys when 50 were on offer back in June, here's your chance to get a key. It's a typical shooter that in short sessions can be a lot of fun. Not really suitable for youngsters. The boys will love the game as will some girls. :) Personally I used to play these games a lot in between larger AAA games just as a break. I found more than 20 or so minutes and the games became a little boring. What kept me coming back for more was the mindless fun and the RPG elements that are included in the game.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the developer Sigma Team for giving away Steam keys for this Action RPG shooter and also to the game giveaway team, as always, for securing other ways to get free games, in this case a Steam key.

Seems to me that a simple solution that would make bot harvesting of keys much more unproductive would be to set a time limit after which the keys would expire. Humble Bundle has done this with their recent give away of DiRT Showdown -- the keys will expire at the end of January. If they can do it, why cannot the give away of the day folks do it? Just have the keys expire after 3 hours or so. It would make the keys worthless on the grey market key resale sites.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi

I think the developer has the power to invalidate the keys. It hass been dome with some of the giveaways, for example the first Steam key given away and some more recent giveaways. If cheating can be proven, then the developer would invalidate those keys. I was told by the giveaway team that they have been checking up to make sure keys are being distributed fairly. i think they would have done something about it if something had been amiss becasue they care about the site.
I do think a time limit of one day would be more appropriate. If you haven't registered the game within that time then the key would become useless. If there are community members selfish enough to steal away loads of keys to make a profit, then it would be the best way to stop it because it's unlikely they would be able to shift most of the keys they got within that time limit. In fact they should do what the giveaway project used to do; i.e. you used to have about an hour after a giveaway ended to register /activate a game giveaway so long as you had already downloaded or at least started to download the executable before the 24 hours was up (including the giveaways over on the applications side of the project). Once that hour had passed it wasn't possible to activate the game. Maybe the developer could invalidate all keys not activated after that hour. That would make it even harder to sell on keys they had scammed. Of course this is only conjecture as it hasn't been proven that people are scamming keys.
The explanation I've given is more likely because millions of Steam users are now aware of the game giveaway project. As I said at weekends up to 14 million users can be online and usually no less than 12 million. As soon as a game giveaway involving Steam keys goes live, loads of Steam groups, Steam key sites broadcast the information to their members and Steam community members message their friends with links to this site, plus most Steam keys involve signing into a Facebook account or sometimes a twitter account, so many users are being informed that way . No wonder keys have been going so fast recently. Unfortunately no developer is going to give away hundreds of thousands of keys, especially for a game worth $10

Reply   |   Comment by A. Suggestion  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-1)

A. Suggestion, If it is possible to put a time limit on steam game keys either automatically or manually in bulk then it should not be 1, 2, or 3 hour expiration but a minimum 24 hour expiration time is essential since it is game give away of the day not hour! In fact it should be 25 or 26 hours to let the participant download the product after obtaining the key at the end of the giveaway 24 hour window.

Any time limit imposed on the keys will make the keys non-tradable in the long term which should alieviate the automated harvesting of the keys.

Maybe you'll restock the keys? It's the second giveaway where I wasn't able to get a key and ....word removed due to unsuitability...............with multiple accounts got 100+ each. Does it sound fair?

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi Natalie

No it doesn't sound fair, but I very much doubt anyone was able to grab 100 keys. The effort of creating hundreds of Steam accounts just to get such a game just seems crazy, but I may be wrong. That said, it's more likely the fact that the Steam community are now very aware of the free games being given awqay here due to the plethora of Steam sites/Steam groups and other sites advertising the free Steam keys as soon as they go live. There's usually anywhere from 12 to 14 million community members minimum online via Steam each weekend, so several thousand Steam keys will go very quickly. With respect to restocking, becasue the game is almost $10, i doubt the team will be able to get more keys, but i may be wrong, so I'd check back occasionally just in case. The same situation happened with the Horror Hospital game and no extra keys were given even though it was much cheaper than today's game. I have several copies of this game and others in the franchise, but I've paid for them via Indie bundles. I will be giving them away eventually, once I get the time to start posting reviews on the site my Steam friend created over the summer. I've been too busy as last year was manic and this year is going to be even more manic as both of my children have important exams this summer.
Just a heads up, tomorrows game is also a Steam key. Not sure if it is a competition key, which are usually limited, but I think it may be a global key giveaway, which means there should be thousands available. Looking at the game that we are going to get, it's very popular on Steam, so it's very very likely those keys will go very quickly.

p.s. had to delete one of the words you used as it was unsuitable for this comments section.

Dear moderator, I personally know several people with 100+ accounts, they created them not only for getting this game, but for all mass giveaways, which there are a lot of and for transferring money and items between the accounts. Measures must be taken against such dishonest people who take other people's keys.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

It takes several minutes to apply for a key becasue of the Steam authentication system that kicks in when you are applying via a browser. You have to verify the Steam account by accessing your email. Each account requires a different email, so to get multiple keys you would have to sign into each Steam account, and your email before a key was sent., 100 accounts would take at least half a day to get all of the keys. If this is occurring, I don't think it would be widespread, I still think it is more likely the Steam community are well aware of the Steam key giveaways here, and as I've already mentioned a few times, with anywhere between 12 to 14 million users online at any one time over the weekend, that seems a more logical reason why the keys are being mopped up so quickly. I agree that measures should be taken to stop such practices if they are happening. The giveaway team have said they have taken steps, but I'm not privy to such information as all I am is a community member like yourself who happened to volunteer to help out several years ago. Sadly, there will always be dishonest people around, if a profit can be made from it.

Hello SakuChan

Seems like all the keys have gone now. Please read my review. I've posted a link to a very similar game by the same developers, that they have converted to Freeware called Theseus - Return of the Hero. Quite a few giveaway members have had the same issue (including me), apparently using a different browser may have fixed the issue. There will be another Steam key giveaway tomorrow, I suggest you come as early as possible to grab a key, just in case they run out.

Why does the moderator keep posting the same comment to answer so many questions? It does not help. The giveaway team has to know this is going to happen by now, yet they still keep doing the same thing over and over. Keys are being given away to people who care nothing at all about this site, and the regular visitors who have been coming here for years get nothing. It's not right.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi Sarah

If that was true I would agree, it wouldn't be right, but every new visitor is just a s entitled as regular visitors. I try to answer everyone's comments. If they are the same query or similar I will post exactly the same , or a similar response. Some giveaways like today's have been extremely exhausting. I've been moderating now for over 12 hours with hardly a break (made myself a couple of drinks and ate an apple and emptied the washing machine. Every other moment has been sorting out the 500+ spam comments , the inane comments etc.

There is really no need to be so rude. I don't know what your qualifications are Roger/John, but I reckon my qualifications and IQ far outweigh yours judging by your comment today (I won't repeat my qual's here, but I did spent over 10 years at university, post grad and research assistant as well as working at Cambridge university for a short time via the Plant Breeding Institute. Don't make comments you can't qualify. If you post insults again your IP will be blacklisted. With respect to banning, I've never said ban, I've mentioned blacklisting, which means, only the person posting the comment and the moderator/administrator can see the comments. As for VPN, their is an add-on that can be configured to block any community member using a VPN connection. I'm still waiting to hear from the giveaway tech team to hear whether they are going to implement one. Judging by the number of spam comments (now approaching 500 today, I'm hoping they will activate the add on soon).

I got both aspects to work properly and was emailed a key, but when I went to use it, Steam rejected it as a duplicate key. I'm not one of those jerks who create multiple Steam accounts to get extra trading cards for $ or anything, I just have the one account. So I clearly hadn't signed up using a duplicate or anything. Very disappointed to have done everything right, be sent the email, and then get a duplicate key.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hello

Please contact the giveaway team via the contact form that I've linked to in the second or third paragraph of my review above. Also please add proof that you completed the tasks and a screen capture of the message you received when you tried to activate the game using the key provided. Thank you.

Reply   |   Comment by Bull Crap  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

I did as you told me to do, but the message didn't go through my yahoo email because it said it was some sort of error and was not an acceptable means of contact. I have the screen capture images, I just need a direct email address to use so I can contact whoever I need to about the Steam key duplicate code. Sorry for being aggravated in my first message, just irked me when everything should have worked, but I got a duplicate code.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi again

No problem, it's good to see someone who can admit when they were wrong. thank you. That said, I can appreciate how frustrating it can be when you've carried out all that is necessary, only to be confronted with a duplicate key. I had the same problem with a giveaway last month. i was given a key so that i could review the game. but I didn't see it until after the giveaway becasue it was given mid week. When I found the key it was already used. The giveaway team were good enough to send me a couple more keys, but both of those were also duplicated. I then decide di was going to buy the game, only to find it had been removed from Steam so no longer available, though i think they are updating it as they have a new page which isn't live yet with deluxe added to the title. I've contacted the developer twice now in as many weeks, but as yet have had no response, depsite offering to pay the full price for the game. Very frustrating.

Well, this was strange. I guess the saying 3rd time is the charm rings true here. When I was getting Steam set up to take the final screen shots to show the key code didn't work, it worked. So I guess that was all a big waste of time. Sorry for the hassle and thank you for the free game. I appreciate it.

BEWARE! This game has a virus! It's being blocked by my firewall.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hello Steve

The game does not have a virus. The game giveaway have been operating since early Dec 2006 and have never given away a game that has been infected with malware. Your security is giving a false positive. The giveaway team would lose their good standing with the major search engines if they allowed infected games to be downloaded by the community. People don't forget when a genuine malware attach has caused problems with thir computer. This site would quickly lose it's reputation if it allowed such practices. As it is, they always check all files that are to be downloaded with several anti malware suites. That said, today's game is downloaded directly from Steam. I have never heard of any games Valve have had on their download servers being infected. They too would start to lose a lot of valuable custom.

The requirements say that I have to have Windows 2000/ XP/ Vista. How can I have all three at once? I think I only have one of them on my computer.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi Samar

Just in case you are being serious the forward slash denotes either, so Windows 2000/ XP/ Vista means Windows 2000 or XP or Vista. The game was released before Win 7 was released, which is why it's not mentioned. I can vouch for the game working on all the later Operating systems at least those I've used i.e. Win 7, win 8 and 8.1 and Win 10.

Alien Shooter 2 - Conscription
Perform both actions and get the key instantly
The competition is over

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi Bryan

Unfortunately Steam keys have become very popular now that many Steam community members know about the giveaways here. There's always at minimum of several million and up to 14 million members online (especially at weekends and holidays) at any one time. News feeds, Steam groups and Steam key giveaway sites as well as friends messaging all advertise or pass on the news of free Steam keys almost as soon as they go live, so competition for the keys is increasing as time passes. The developer did give thousands of keys away this morning, plus earlier this year they gave 50 keys away for the same game and 100 keys for Zombie Shooter back in October. Each game costing almost $10. Whether the giveaway team can secure more keys is uncertain. I expect not, due to the price of today's game.
As a consolation please see my review at the top of the comments, I've posted a link to Sigma teams now freeware game Theseus - Return of the Hero, which they converted to freeware shortly after Alien Shooter was released several years ago. it's basically the same game play mechanics, just a little dated compared to alien Shooter 2, but still as good.

Bots have taken all of the keys. :(

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi Possom

Not bots, but a massive Steam community who are always on the lookout for free Steam keys. As soon as a Steam game goes live here, it is advertised on loads of Steam key giveaway sites, so the community know very quickly. There are always a minimum of at least 5 million users online at any one time and well over 140 million active users. Several thousand keys do not go a very long way. I'm sure the Giveaway team will try to get more keys, but as the game isn't one of the cheap less than a dollar games, i.e. it's almost $10 (£6.99), I doubt we will get many more for free. See my later reply to your second comment where I mention a link to a free game that is similar called Theseus - Return of the Hero, that was also developed by the sigma team.

For the second week in a row the keys are all gone as soon as I wake up. It's 8 am Eastern time in the US and I can't get this game. :( I'm fine with the Facebook and Steam things, but this lack of keys is becoming a bit irritating.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Thousands of keys have already been donated by the developer. The community has expanded massively since Steam keys were added last Spring. Steam is the most popular gaming platform around with well over 140 million active users. Several thousand keys will not go a long way if thousands of Steam users are aware of these free keys, which is almost certainly the case becasue there are loads of Steam groups and sites that promote steam freebies as soon as they go live, so many Steam users become aware very quickly. The game costs £6.99/$9.99 to purchase. I doubt any developer would be giving away tens of thousands of these keys especially when over the last four hours I've had to send over 200 comments to the spam folder and no one has bothered to comment specifically about the game yet.

As a consolation see my review, I've posted a link to Sigma teams now freeware game Theseus - Return of the Hero, which they converted to freeware shortly after Alien Shooter was released several years ago. it's basically the same game play mechanics, just a little dated compared to alien Shooter 2, but still as good.

Hi Serge

I've had the same problem. All I can suggest is that you contact the giveaway team via the contact form which you can find HERE. I'd also consider contacting Sigma Team directly and explain the issues that are preventing you from getting a Steam key. You should find contact details on their web site HERE (Tech Team) or HERE (General). I hope this helps. Check back later to see if the problem, (if it is from the giveaway side), has been resolved, or someone may have posted a fix. Also read Johns comment above yours.

Why aren't you fussing at this person and all the others who are posting in all capital letters? Why is it okay for some people to do it but not others?

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hello Mary/EileyLincoln

Because I've been sitting at this computer virtually all day since I got up at 5am this morning, it's now 4.20pm almost 12 hours later; having had to moderate over 500 spam comments, try to answer community members queries as pleasantly as i can, as well as help my 18 year old son who has his mock A level exams starting on Monday. He also has three pharmacy interviews to prepare for within the next three weeks , one at one of the UK's leading universities, so he really needs to be well prepared, and seriously needs my help a sI have pharmacy experience, plus my daughter also need help with her GCSE revision and my wife wants some attention too. But all I seem to get is inane questions from some of the community who seem to have nothing better to do. I wouldn't mind if the community stuck to the point of the comments section. i.e. comment about the game being given away. As you must know, capital letters are akin to shouting when posting on forums and comments pages such as these, but I just haven't had the time to answer or comment on every misdemeanor. The giveaway team have asked me not to delete any of the spam comments until they have had their tech team look into the issue, so I'm having to navigate through up to 16 pages of useless spam comments every time I answer someones queries becasue when i save the comment, it returns me to the first page, so i have to yet again navigate through hundreds of comments. Does that answer your question???? Anyone else commenting on my mood or anything related will be deleted. Sorry to be so short, it's getting a little infuriating, which I'm sure is the intention of the culprit, or culprits posting those spam comments.

Change the site name to conditional giveaway of the day and that will do the trick.

i'm not on facebook and do not wish for them to have my details either so no game for me today. Oh well

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi Spike,
I don't have a Facebook account, but I can still get most games that require a check mark against the Facebook task. Today's is an exception because for some reason when I click on the Facebook button it won't even open the Facebook log in page, at least on the computer I'm using at the moment. (I'm going to try on another computer becasue my son would like this game). Usually all I have to do is open up to the Facebook log-in page, then go back to the giveaway page and find the checkbox/tick has been activated even though I haven't signed into a Facebook account, (which I no longer have). I used to have one when they allowed screen names, but when they requested my real name about 5 years ago I let my account lapse. When I last tried to access it some years ago it had been deleted. The only reason I created an account in the first place was to try some of the free games they had on offer; some of which were extremely addictive (such as the Farm building games, a couple of city building games and a text based game called Mafia, in fact, for about 5 months I stopped playing all of my Steam games, including new AAA purchases, in preference to the free Facebook games). Before you write off any of these games because of Facebook, you should try and see if the task can be completed just by opening the log in page. The main reason the giveaway team include Facebook is to increase community member numbers, which in turn may persuade more developers to give away games. The greater the numbers we have, the more developers like it because they are more likely to get higher sales of their games. There are always those who will buy the game for various reasons; for example, even though I've got the game for free I'll still buy the game from the developer if I really like the game because I like to reinstall to other computers at a later date. I also buy a lot of games to support the developers.

How can I recommend something to my Facebook friends that I have not tried? If some thing is good I don't hesitate to share it on Facebook, If some thing is bad I won't subject my friends to it. This game is a mystery to me. So I will have to err on the side of caution and give this a pass. I have to think more users here will reject the Facebook option. Good luck.

Hello Brenda

You can get a free demo of Alien Shooter 2: Conscription via the developers site HERE as well as demo's of all of their other similar games of which there are ten. if you prefer the game via Steam, there's no conscription demo available but you can get the previous game in the franchise Alien Shooter 2: Reloaded HERE. If you don't want to download a demo you could watch some game play videos and read some reviews. It's not exactly the same as actually playing the game, but they would give you some idea as to what to expect and whether the game would be suitable. It's not a game everyone would like (as is the same for all games) but I'm sure some of your friends would like this game. You could also say by not recommending it you are denying them a free game. Still, it's your prerogative not to post it on to your friends. :)

No, you are wrong. I don't have friends who would play a nasty, splatter game where the whole point is to kill as many as you can. Particularly on as ancient as this one is in game years. And it wouldn't matter anyway since it is absolutely impossible to get a key now.

Sadly whenever anything gets a sbig as Facebook, there will always be those that oppose it for whatever reason. I have many friends who love Facebook and all are decent people. Please read the first paragraph of my review. you'll find a link to the rules governing this comment section and a link to the Giveaway team if you wish to complain.
No one is forcing you to use Facebook. This is a site that has been giving away free games since Dec 2006. times have changed since the site went live back then. the only places giving away free games either had masses of advertising and buttons that ended up giving you toolbars, home page changes or a limited selection of games apart from maybe the abandonware sites where you could and still can download old DOS games and early Windows games for free, though the legality of such sites has always been a grey area. Most of the decent and well made games from those sites have since been hoovered up by sites like good Old Games who traced the original owners and either sought permission or purchased the rights to continue to sell the games. Since 2006 other sites have copied the giveaway formulae and since 2008 when the bottom dropped out of the game market with respect to prices (for example the average price of an arcade game prior to 2008 was $19.99, whereas now you can get them for around $6.99 or less, plus the advent of the Indie bundle where you can buy a bundle of games for as much as 95% off the usual price. This has reduced the number of games the giveaway team have been able to secure over the last few years. Because of this they have had to add such things as Facebook so that more people become aware of the project. The more community members we have, the better the chance of securing more and better games. The reason why is that a percentage of those getting these free games go on to buy other games from the developer. Alawar and Playrix benefited greatly from the giveaway community as many community members went on to buy other games from them. I've personally purchased at least 70% of the games given away here over the last 10 years.
Free games are not a right, they are a privilege, so your argument that the giveaway team are discriminating is moot.

quod erat demonstrandum

There was no unsuitable Language, but i can understand why a supporter of said things feels uncomfortable and censored it!

Quare cum lingua Latina uti videre est anglicus geram?

Please read the moderation policy which can be found HERE. Firstly I don't feel uncomfortable, what 'I try' is to be respectful to all who visit here. Some community members, especially parents of young children would find that particular word you used inappropriate, especially if they allowed their children to see these pages. Secondly, How can you say I support Facebook when I don't even use it. What I tried to explain is that the giveaway team needed to expand their community base. Facebook is one way this can be achieved, as is using Steam. Both have extremely large communities. One way to get more and better games is to have a larger community. If you don't want to use Facebook, then move on to the next offering that doesn't require Facebook.
