Unfortunately I get the same issue as others, with the game opening to a white screen. I've tried changing the compatibility mode using different settings, but each time with the same result; a white screen. It could be something to do with Direct X. I think it runs with DX 8, I've tried replacing the DXDX81AB.dll but still couldn't get it to work.

I've checked other free game sites to see if it is available there, but none of the ones I've used in the past have the game.

The Game:
In a magical kingdom in a faraway land, a young girl named Alice spends her days working in the King’s castle. Days of indentured servitude leave time for Alice to daydream, as she fantasizes of how wonderful it would be to grow her own garden in peace and freedom. These dreams become reality when a desperate fairy named Luna steals Alice from the castle and begs for her help in returning the fairy population’s fruit supplies from a sorceress with evil intentions. Through a variety of match-three levels, you’ll need to gather enough food for the fairies and ultimately save the day.

The gameplay in Alice and the Magic Gardens isn’t nearly as varied as the game itself would like you to believe, with there being one major theme to every level. You need to make matches of three or more like “fruit lockers” which then disappear to show you an individual piece of fruit underneath. You then make matches with these fruit pieces to gather them for the fairies, completing a variety of goals in each level. That is, one goal might have you simply filling a bar by collecting every type of fruit on the screen, while another might ask you to collect a specific number of oranges, bananas and so on.

Unfortunately, these two separate items – the lockers and the fruit – can only be moved by swapping tiles of their own kind. This often leaves you with one or two lockers stranded in the middle of a level, which isolates some fruit from ever being matched. As you create matches with fruit, more lockers appear, continuing the cycle. It seems that Alawar expected this to happen, as a series of enhancements have been added to counteract them. For instance, you can fill a Shuffle button that allows you to randomize all current box locations. What’s more, you can make matches of three or more like fruit or lockers in an L shape, in addition to the standard horizontal or vertical lines. Still, the inability to move some fruit lockers (and by association, some pieces of fruit) causes plenty of unnecessary frustration.
Adding to the complexity of each level are power-ups and challenges like spiders or worms. Worms destroy pieces of fruit while spiders place a web atop them. Power-ups, then, stop them by allowing you to sweep away a spider web or use bug spray to remove the worm before it can eat the fruit. They’re nice additions that add to the variety of the gameplay, but could have easily been left out without hurting the final quality of the game.

With each level being timed, you earn funds depending on how quickly you can complete them. As you complete levels, you unlock upgrades for Alice’s garden, but these are standard items with no customization options. You simply head into the store, repeatedly click the “buy” button and then watch as the template flowers, trees and bushes appear in their set locations with no further interaction from you. It would have been great if we could customize each item that goes into the garden, a la Gardenscapes, but without this ability (not to mention the garden’s incredibly blurry graphics), the garden portion of the gameplay ultimately feels “tacked on” and can be easily forgotten.

Ultimately, Alice and the Magic Gardens contains some rather unique elements in the world of the match-three genre, so Alawar deserves credit for doing something new. That being said, if we could freely swap locker and fruit tiles with each other, the challenge of the game would still be there simply due to each level being timed. There didn’t need to be an additional challenge to make the gameplay fun, and in fact, it does more harm than good. Alice and the Magic Gardens is worth a trial, if you’re simply out of other good match-three games in your collection, but don’t be surprised if you come away disappointed.

Notes on Security
I scanned a zipped copy of the installed game and it found four hits (Jiangmin, MaxSecure, Sophos and VBA32) from 62 antimalware engines. These are probably false positives bearing in mind 58 other antimalware suites found he installed games files clean. The downloaded executable may include some low level adware that only opens your browser to TooMky Games home page after the game has installed and places four shortcuts onto your desktop (which can be safely deleted once the game has installed). The installation does not inject any malware into your system. When your browser is opened to TooMky Games home page when the game has been installed, it earns TooMky Games some money, part of which is given to the developer of the game for allowing the game to be given away free. You can see the results of the scan via the following link:

Other Free Games:
The latest free game from Epic is The Spectrum Retreat - a challenging, first-person puzzle game set in the near future. You awake at The Penrose hotel, a peaceful yet unsettling refuge from the outside world. As a valued guest, your existence is embedded into the corridors and guest rooms of The Penrose and will be available to add to your Epic account until Thursday 8th July at 4pm UK time/11am EST.
Two more games will then be given away called Bridge Constructor: The Walking Dead (looks great) which combines the legendary and challenging puzzle gameplay of Bridge Constructor™ with the post-apocalyptic zombie universe of AMC’s The Walking Dead and Ironcast that was Inspired by Victorian-era science fiction writers such as H.G. Wells and Jules Verne, Ironcast is set in an exciting alternative history; a time when refined men and women in top hats and bonnets commanded gigantic walking war machines, laying waste to the enemies of the British Empire! Take control of a 7 meter tall walking vehicle called an Ironcast and face off against an invading force of enemy Ironcast in order to defend 1880's Victorian England. The game is one of my favourite versions of a match three game where creating matches gives you chances to beat your AI opponent. I already have this game on Steam and love it. It has mainly positive reviews. These will be available to add to your EPIC games library from Thursday the 8th July to Thursday 15th July at 4pm UK time/11am EST when a new set of games will be available to add to your account. Since Epic Games started to give away games I've accumulated over 270 games not counting duplicates, most of which are either AAA or high end indie arcade games.

Also from Epic, If you play online with friends there are several free online games for example there 's a decent PvE/PvP FPS game called Scavengers with a coop mode (I checked it out recently and it looks fantastic as well as plays well) and you can still get the clicker RPG Idle Champions. I've posted some details about Idle Champions over in the forums HERE, where you'll also find links to a Reddit page where you can pick up codes to redeem chests for free that give you various buffs and other items to add to your account that boost your heroes abilities and health as well as affect your group of heroes in game, for example potions that boost health or DPS, contracts that can improve armour or weapons already used by the heroes or other contracts that add specific amounts of gold to your bank as well as items of jewellery, armour or weapons that buff your characters stats. I've stopped playing the game simply because it was too addicting.

Please see Delenn's threads for Steam and Non Steam freebies HERE and HERE respectively. Delenn has been updating these regularly for years now. It’s worth adding these links to your favourites and checking regularly for available freebies. Most are only free for a specific time. If you miss the deadline you’ll miss out. Once added to your account, it’s yours to keep. Delenn has recently posted details of more Steam games that are temporarily free. One may be until it leaves early access??? - i.e. Tower Ball - Incremental Tower Défense plus a reflex game called Keyboard Killers are still free. Delenn posted details of a free origin came called Battlefield 4 which is available for free if you have an Amazon Prime account (If you like FPS games, it's a brilliant game to own. (not sure if it's still live).

You'll find hundreds of freeware games of all arcade and indie genres on Itch.io and Caimans Games as well as other sources. Please do check out the game discussion forums for older posts HERE (the sticky section is useful). Many of the earlier posts may be out of date with respect to the links I and others have provided to the free games; however, you only need to know the name of the game to find most of them via other sources. Many of those games from 2008 to around 2017 were posted as part of a project to supplement the lack of weekday games when the game giveaway went to weekend only games around Easter 2008 (mainly instigated due to the financial crisis of 2008) until November 2018 when Falcoware stepped into the weekday slot; however, from around 2015 onwards we did start to get the occasional Steam key for various games offered as limited giveaways, with a restriction on the number of keys available (anywhere from 25 to 2000+). These included over 60 decent AAA games and indie arcade games ; for example some of the better AAA games included , lucky Warhammer: Vermintide 1 & 2 plus DLC for version 2; Dreadlands, Mount & Blade: Warband, Immortal Unchained and Conan Exiles.

The Indie Gala developers freebies are available HERE (latest additions) and HERE (81 games in the Showcase, most full versions). Recent additions include In Between Land Sonya: The Great Adventure, The Last Dream: Developer's Edition, Deep Despair Cube Runner, Agatha Christie - The ABC Murders, Whispering Willows Snow White Solitaire. Charmed Kingdom, Adam Wolfe (Complete Edition), Doodle Devil, Deep Space Anomaly and the latest addition Kick Ass Commandos; plus, many more in the showcase section HERE and the Freebies section HERE.

It’s worth adding most of the links to your favourites and checking regularly for available freebies. Most are only free for a specific time. If you miss the deadline you’ll miss out. Once added to your account, they are yours to keep. :)

I'll post a review later.

Whiterabbit-uk,

Looks like we are getting two games today; probably to celebrate the 4th July.

Have a great day my dear American cousins.

Whiterabbit-uk, you may be missing the point..."they", the developer/reseller needs to be fixing it, not you...but being so old, i doubt they can or would or could...

i can confirm some other sites have it and won't work out of the box either for win 10 x64,
leaving aside some will blindly buy bulk games this time because is safe to assume it is a microsoft "gift compatibility bug" that they'll call "updates and inovations" now that most older windows are no longer supported :)))

leaving ms aside, is especially troublesome running it under win 10 x64 but i think older operating systems might be more lucky to run it...and perhaps x32 systems could run it easier too but no guarantee

not that is worth running it or keeping it...even if you like match 3 games you can find nicer ones out there...in my case it did not save my progress and clicking the hint fairy makes it at most fly around or ignore player :)))
and you play to unlock a spider that after all said and done it will likely make things more difficult for you...
as for general gameplay, is not hard nor too easy, begin stages could range from 1 minute to several minutes completion depending on how you play/understand the game goals, the powerups can be crappy and rewards might punish you...

extra question: what was the point to use themida goatd wrapper when their site is also giving away the setup for free? not to mention even if they weren't if you ask me. is not helping anyone, except maybe goatd to open their page to visit

Whiterabbit-uk, of course, according to toomkygames and others

https://toomkygames.com/download-free-games/alice-and-the-magic-gardens/

OS: Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7/8/10

but we can't believe it due to practice, and is unknown if the above one who is giving more reasonable sys requirements did not also pump it up a bit too...

huh,

Hi Huh,
Pity I've upgraded all of our computers to Win 10; otherwise I could have checked. I do have a couple of older computers that need to new hardware and my intention has been to install a Win 98 and a Win XP on those because I have some very old games that I want to play that require those operating systems. I may check this game out then (if I remember). I've got too many projects to finish at the moment to sort those two computers until much later.

Also as you said, it's an old game and there are lots of better match three games available for free e.g. all of the Treasures of Montezuma which are some of the best traditional match three's available. My preferences for match three are those that incorporate battling AI's with RPG elements. between the 8th to the 15th July Ironcast a match three with RPG elements will be available for free via Epic Games. I already have the game and can say it's a very good game well worth getting when it's available in a few days time.

The Themida wrapper was originally added to giveaways because we used to get games directly from sites like Alawar and Playrix. Unfortunately, some community members had figured out ways to get crack the giveaway executable so that it could be installed as a registered copy any time on any computer they wished instead of just being limited to the day of the giveaway and the system it was presently installed to; also, some of community members also uploaded the cracked executable to peer to peer sites where some may still be available to download; so, the Themida wrapper was added to protect the executable. It's still an important addition w.r.t. protecting the programs on the application side of the project. As for the game giveaway side, I think it's just a habit carried on from when it was more important.

It was added because some of the developers who gave away many games were not happy about the cracked versions going to peer to peer sites and had basically said that if the giveaway team didn't add some effective protection we would no longer get any games from them. Even the Themida wrapper has since been cracked.

Although most of the weekends games now come from sites that already give them away, there is a difference in that most off the low level adware that comes with these free game sites has been either removed or disabled; so the game giveaway versions have less adware and the adware is not invasive with respect to being injected into your system.

The game installed easily on Windows 10. The music did play, but there was no display, and no way for me to play the game. I uninstalled it, as I do not need a program that just plays a song over and over.
