Got this game years ago, and still occasionally play it. Love platformers like this. I'm currently playing Turtle Odyssey 3 for the umpteenth time (trying to get all perfect scores/secrets). I wish more of this type of game were made today. I and my Grandchildren can all enjoy it. So, I won't be downloading this now, but if you like platformers, like Supercow or Subsea Relic (aka Shark Attack), you will enjoy this one.

Just great... thankfully I have 9 lives, well 3...
Alex Gordon is a super marioesque style old school 2d platformer in the same classic sense with platforming and jumping (but with swimming, climbing and swinging on ropes, riding barrels etc), higher quality production values than expected with larger character sprites and is easy to pick up and play. Back in the super nes era platformers were the bomb and having some like this or even Supercow or Turtle Odyssey bring you right back and might remind you a bit of a Donkey Kong Country type visuals along with added touches here like lucky the checkpoint cheerleader. Controls are either the keyboard arrows and space, or can also use the mouse to move and mouse button once or twice to jump higher and you have lots of handholding explaining what to do so you wont be lost. Of course since its not mario there are no coins to collect nor are their any secret areas or added bonus levels to find you might have missed the first playthrough ...oh waitaminute :) ...but the coins here allow building a home to retire on the island.
There was an issue where the custom mouse did not display in full screen and glitchy in window mode (although it was moving around without displaying) but was fixed by unchecking custom cursor in the options menu. The sound used for the penguin character that gives you advice was quite annoying and should be changed or able to be turned off separate from other effects. Overall a nice classic platformer that isnt short and has good playability for all age groups. Now why cant I jump on that dang penguins head to shut it up. :)

The game is one that I had before. It is fun. I do SO wish that I could simply click and download link and download the way that I used to versus the push notifications that don't work with either Chromium or Firefox. They USED to work with Firefox, now they don't. Thank you.

Platforming on the PC was relatively new in the DOS days with games like Alien Carnage, Jill Of The Jungle, Jazz Jackrabbit and so forth. It was considered the prime of wholesome family entertainment for those who owned a personal computer and did not want to invest in a Nintendo or Sega for their kids.
Although we have seen platformers on the Giveaway site during the weekdays, this game stands out from the rest with some great graphics and a reminder on how popular these games were back in the day if we were lucky enough to have those brand name consoles in our homes.
Game is very simple you defeat as many enemies as you can and then collect the coins and for the platform perfectionists you find the secret areas.
When playing through this game you will notice a lot of friendly characters along the way giving you advice on how to play the game and tips on how to get a better score and so forth.
You can either use the Keyboard or Mouse in this game. I had played around with the mouse for some time and found it a little bit difficult to play but it can be mastered and also a great function for those with disabilities who typically cannot play the game with the keyboard.
The only gripe I have is that I cannot use my game controller.
One other feedback on todays game is that while the visuals in the game look nice, they are rather on the blurry side and I would love to see a remaster of these games. Turtix which is from the same developer needs to see this treatment as well.
Overall this is a nice platformer to play with no real issues other than the low res visuals and no controller support.

sailorbear510 aka Jason, You probably already know this, but it's worth mentioning programs like Joy2Key, XPAdder, Pinnacle Game Profiler, and reWASD — which other visitors may not know about.
These each cost a modest $10 or so, and will allow you to map any game controller to keys and/or mouse buttons. DS4Windows is a free alternative, but may not do everything you might require.
Of all those, I've only personally used XPAdder, some years ag, when it was freeware, and it did the job perfectly.
