Hi everybody and Whiterabbit-UK. :-)

Preamble: I'm using Win10 home x64, DEP always on, UAC enabled with max level, custom scaling 150%, resolution 1920x1080, color depth 32bit, refresh rate 60Hz, Win10 Defender, Win10 firewall.

No problems detected after doing pre-scans and post-scans with Defender, SAS, MBAM2, EEK, GSAM.
No problems detected after I sent the package to virustotal and metadefender; file too big to be sent to jotti and virscan. Those webservices show the same false positives for GAOTD setup.exe found in last years: I won't repeat them.
No problems during game download, during its installation, at its startup and changing its options.

Thanks to the GAOTD team, in particular to Whiterabbit-UK!
Follow the white rabbit, guys!
Thanks for the game to World-LooM, Intenium, BigFishGames, MyPlayCity!

In Brief

Aerie: Spirit of the Forest is a tactical strategy game with gorgeous graphics.

Suggestions:

Whether you like or dislike Aerie: Spirit of the Forest please give some feedback about your opinion of todays game giveaway, for example, what you liked or disliked, and how it could be improved from your point of view. If you don't like this genre at all, please explain why. What improvements would change your opinion? There are thousands of subscribers to the game giveaway of the day every weekend which makes this an ideal forum for giving developers ideas as to what their consumers (i.e you) would like to see in a game. For example, you could suggest extra content such as better or more original mini games, or a level editor that you would like to see that would make it more appealing to you. Maybe you think the graphics are a little dated and are in need of re skinning, or maybe you've just had enough of the genre and want to see something different or something with more originality? Giving such feedback instead of saying nothing or just saying this game is rubbish or good may bring more developers to the site, which could mean more and better games. Would you give away thousands of copies of a game (or extra content for a game) away to a community that complains all the time instead of giving useful feedback? It only takes a few moments of your time. This site could be transformed if only the community would be more forthcoming in their opinions of the games they are getting for free instead of complaining about the way this site has changed or that they don't like Steam games. If something isn't for you then move on to the next giveaway, or check out the extra's section at the end of this review; you never know, you may find something that interests you..

If you miss today's giveaway you can always get the game via MyPlayCity 24/7 HERE. If you prefer to purchase the game you can get it via Big Fish Games HERE. It costs £2.99/$2.99 if you are a new subscriber otherwise it's £7.70

Introduction:

Take on the mantle of a protective spirit in Aerie: Spirit of the Forest, a new and fun tactical strategy game. Ravaged by disaster, the land of Shangri-La has become a desolate and dead place. You must guide Aerie, a nature spirit, and her band of will-o-wisps as they seek to restore the natural wonders of her homeworld. Trek through forests and swamps and over the distant snow-capped mountain peaks of Shangri-La as you use your magic to restore the world. In Aerie: Spirit of the Forest, you must carefully manage your resources as you work to restore balance to the ecosystem. Waken gophers, heal the ancient oaks, ford raging rivers and more as you try to find the resources you need to heal the wounds of nature. Shangri-La is depending on you to make the right choices! Only then can the idyllic beauty of the land be restored. The critters need your help and guidance to know what needs to be done as you race against the clock. Play through all thirty five levels again and again as you attempt to figure out the perfect balance that will restore the land in least amount of time possible. The environmentally friendly storyline of Aerie: Spirit of the Forest is perfect for young children!

If you have a problem installing or activating or getting Aerie: Spirit of the Forest to work please visit the problems section, which you can find HERE

The Game:

One day the peaceful land of Shangri-La gets destroyed by burning meteors and ash falling from the sky. In Aerie: Spirit of the Forest by Intenium, you’ll help Aerie, a friendly fairy supported by will-‘o-wisps, to restore this country by curing the damaged nature and the three fallen shrines. Players can expect a solid resource management title with a fairly innovative and whimsical presentation.

The basic features and obstacles the player faces with Aerie: Spirit of the Forest are quite similar to the My Kingdom for the Princess series, in that you are collecting resources such as seeds, water, and life force, though rather healing structures and organisms in contrast to destroying things that block your way.

Resources can be earned in three different ways. Sometimes they simply lie on the ground and can be collected, while you are also able to earn seeds or life force by restoring structures like ponds, bushes, or birch trees. Apart from that there are also plants or structures that serve as “natural” buildings, in contrast to ordinary houses in similar titles. Rivers will provide you with water on a regular basis, deer and gophers support Aerie by creating life force, while oaks produce seeds.

Ashampoo_Snap_2017.03.16_21h47m34s_006_

Beside providing life force, animals also serve various other purposes in Aerie: Spirit of the Forest. Bears will remove obstacles, eagles will collect resources that Aerie would not be able to reach otherwise, and beavers will build dams if needed. The inclusion of animals in such a sweet and charming way, not to mention their smooth animation and cute drawing, really boosts the already stellar atmosphere of the game and is probably one of its strongest features. Apart from animals and will-‘o-wisps there are also monoliths that can help Aerie to cure the land quicker.

Those monoliths can be compared to the bonuses in My Kingdom of the Princess, although they lack the variety and are not really crucial to finish a level within the moon phase. By activating them, Aerie can get a second will-‘o-wisp, freeze the timer, or speed up her pace. Apart from those monoliths there is also a toad in some levels at which you can exchange one resource for another at a certain rate. However, this feature seems rather arbitrary, since sometimes the resource you need the most can’t be exchanged at all, and at other times you won’t be able to trade due to lack of resources until the very end of a level.

By finishing within the moon phase you will get moon crystals, which can be used to restore the three shrines located around the whole country, whose reconstruction is mandatory to cure the land. Still, Aerie: Spirit of the Forest is rather forgiving if finishing a level takes a bit longer, so you will never really get stuck. Most of the levels are on the easy side, so experienced players will be undoubtedly disappointed in both the low level of difficulty and the comparably short length of the game.

What’s absolutely stunning about Aerie: Spirit of the Forest are the graphics and effects, which really display the progress you are making. The player can definitely see the consequences of Aerie’s healing rather quickly, and it feels extremely rewarding and satisfying. Green Meadows, wonderful trees, and cosy homes for animals are simply nicer to look at than grey and brown mud.

Unfortunately, there are also some negative points worth pointing out, besides the already mentioned lack of challenge and only featuring one mode and 35 levels. For one thing there are some flaws with controlling Aerie. In the last stage of the game she should be able to fly, but it took us some trial-and-error as well as repeated clicking to do so successfully. A similar annoyance is connected to the eagle, which should actually collect resources instead of Aerie. However, when you click resources this order will be registered by both the eagle and Aerie, which redundantly complicates the game. We also missed some more variety in level design – in the end you are doing nearly the same tasks over and over again – while the advanced complexity of My Kingdom for the Princess is missing.

All in all Aerie: Spirit of the Forest is a pleasant, above average resource simulation with a highly innovative presentation, but game mechanics that lack diversity and challenge to exploit the game’s full potential. Players who appreciate wonderful graphics, a sweet story with a message, or fans of My Kingdom for the Princess who would not mind a less difficult task will surely enjoy this charming game nevertheless. And the end of the story definitely does not rule out a sequel, so let’s hope that we’ll see Aerie again in the future.

Conclusion:

This is an excellent de stresser as the challeng isn't that great despite the levels being timed. You can finish all levels even if you run out of time, but you won't be awarded moonstones if you do run out of time.

If you are looking for a callenge, Aerie: Spirit of the Forest is not your game. The graphic is absolutely gorgeous but the game does lack variety and the challenge is minimal. Because of this the game makes for a great de stresser and is ideal for the whole family. I'd love to have given this a higher score as I absolutely adored the look of the game, but to be fair and un biased, I could only award it a 7 out of 10 at the most.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank MyPlayCity for giving away Aerie: Spirit of the Forest minus the usual MPC additions and also to the game giveaway team, as always, for securing other ways to get free games, in this case Steam keys.

Useful Information not related to today's game giveaway:

If you have a problem running today's game you can find help in the FAQ's thread HERE.

I've updated the games section that used to be posted with the review. The thread is now called 'Weekly round up of game deals', formerly the games section of the weekly reviews. You can find the new thread (which I've posted in the sticky section of the game discussion forums to make it easier to find if you are perusing the game discussion forums) HERE.

If today's game giveaway 'Aerie - Spirit of the Forest' didn't appeal, you may find other games either free or for less than the price of a cup of coffee via the 'Weekly Roundup of Game Deals' thread which I've posted a link to above, or HERE. Tomorrow we will have two steam games up for grabs, one is a global giveaway, with 10 000 key, the other one is a li mited competition, but we still get 5000 keys, so a good chance to win a key for most who bother to apply Fridays VR game Heaven Forest is also still available. It can be played without a VR headset.

The free game over on Origin is now Siberia II. It is a third-person puzzle-solving game. Stylistically identical to the first Syberia, Syberia II improves upon the first game by introducing more realistic character animation. The game includes a recap of the first chapter, so does not require the player to have experienced the first game.. You can get it HERE. Please note that you do require the Origin game platform to be able to download and install the game.

You will also find lots of deals over on Green Man Gaming and Big Fish Games usually have 70% off the first game you buy from them, plus they also have other deals occasionally. Desura was purchased from Bad Ju Ju games last year by One Play. If you already have a Desura account you can read details of what is happening HERE. As yet you can't access games you previously purchased via Desura (I have around 1400), but One Play are working to recover everyone's accounts and hope to do so by the end of March 2017. Indie Royale will also resume on a weekly basis, though at this time I don't know if previous Indie Royale Greenlight bundles will be honoured? Alawar, Gamehouse and Playrix entertainment have free games available (usually online versions) and other game houses such as the AAA distributors Ubisoft and Origin always have some games on sale. I've updated the Weekly roundup of game deals HERE to include a large list of other sites where you can find games on sale ( e.g. Origin, uPlay, GreenManGaming etc, as well as links to free online games and other game houses such as Alawar, Playrix and Gamehouse plus gaming news sites such as Rock Paper Shotgun and Game Seek, and included a list of free to play Massive Multiplayer games such as World of Tanks, World of Warships, Liberators and Allegiance to name a few. For more details please go to the Weekly roundup of game deals over in the game discussion sticky section HERE.

There are 1068 games on sale over on Steam at the moment, with up to 91% off. Game prices range from as little as £0.15p (most of these cheap games are actually cheaper in the UK than the US, so if you are a US citizen and have a UK friend, get them to buy the game for you). There are over 200 games and dlc less than $1 and almost 300 for less than £1. You can find all of the deals HERE.

If you spend more than $2 in the Indie Gala store you'll also get a free copy of The Last Tinker: City of Colors worth £16.99/$19.99, plus there are loads more deals with excellent discounts that you'll find HERE, for example 75% off Ryse: Son of Rome, 75% off The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, 75% off Saints Row IV: Game of the Century Edition, 66% off God Eater 2: Rage Burst, 50% off Dragons Dogma: Dark Arisen, 75% off The Star Wars Collection, 60% off Resident Evil Gold Edition, up to 90% off Majesco Games (A Boy and His Blob, Advent Rising, BloodRayne 1, 2 and Betrayal, Costume Quest, Grapple, Double Dragon: Neon, Slender, Slender: The Arrival and Krautscape), plus loads of other deals up to 92% off.

The Humble Bundle site has an excellent bundle called The Humble Jumbo bundle 8 (ends tomorrow evening UK time) that includes Valhalla Hills, Legend of Eisenwald and The Journey Down Chapters 1 and 2 for $1, plus if you pay the average of $7.22/£5.84 you'll get Warhammer: End Times - Vermintide , Jotun, Turmoil, Aurion: Legacy of the Kori-Odan, Void Destroyer, and The Interactive Adventures of Dog Mendonça and Pizza Boy; finally if you pay $10/£8.09 you'll get the excellent WWI multiplayer game Verdun worth £18.99/$24.99, plus their monthly package that is excellent value for money. A new monthly bundle has just gone live a couple of weeks ago. If you subscribe to the Humble Monthly, which costs $12 a month (or less if you choose various monthly plans) you not only get a large collection of decent Steam games you will also get for the first month of the subscription The Witness (worth £29.99), which was released last year (Jan 21016). The great thing is, you can cancel at any time, so only need to receive the first bundle of games. I personally haven't bothered, but only because I usually have already purchased most of the games included in the monthly bundle. The usual savings on the games you get are around 90%, not counting the introductory offer. There's also lots of games on sale over on the Bundle Stars and Indie Game Stand (IGS).

Giveaway Team Contact and Moderation policy:

Continued from the first paragraph at the beginning of this review ........... I am posting this in light of the massive increase in negative comments not related to the game being given away, inappropriate comments and spam (Almost 700 spam comments were posted over a 24 hour period back in January) that have occurred over the past several months since the site was updated and in particular since the site started using Facebook, Twitter and Steam. Thankfully the giveaway team have reverted back to comments only being visible to the community once they have been moderated and a VPN blocker has been added. If you use a VPN server your comment may be automatically blacklisted, but once I've seen them I usually remove them from the black list unless they are spam or comments from trolls. This is a site that gives free games away, so it was quite shocking to see the number of negative and sometimes inappropriate comments being posted here, especially when they awere not even related to the actual game that we receive. Since the changes this has thankfully reduced significantly. I always though getting something for free was a privilege/perk/treat/ and deserves at least some thanks or gratitude and cannot understand why we got and still get to a much smaller degree negative comments that have nothing to do with the game and could quite possibly turn away potential developers who would otherwise have given the project their games. Of course we have freedom of speech, but as mentioned in my review above, there are rules to posting in this comments section; even a free society requires rules and regulations to run properly, so please bear this in mind when posting a comment.

I believe if we get lots of decent feedback about the games we get here, more developers would be happy to give away their games. Seeing lots of complaints (and spam) instead of feedback about the giveaways will not persuade other developers to give their creations away for free, especially when they may have spent thousands of hours working on the creation. So please bear this in mind when posting your comments. Any comment not about the game for example complaints, or if deemed unfriendly or inappropriate, will be deleted (usually with no explanation) or added to the spam folder, which automatically black lists the IP address you used. Although I have enjoyed responding to many of those comments in the past, I will no longer waste my time answering comments from community members who should have read the moderation policy.

games-3100-Aerie_4_0

games-3100-Aerie_6_0

Negative feedback about the games given away will always be welcomed because such comments can also be very constructive for developers; however, complaining about the way the site is operating or problems about downloading or installing the games or about Steam keys not received should be directed to the giveawayoftheday team via the contact form (with evidence of completed tasks, the name and email you used to enter the competition, or giveaway etc). These problems are usually associated with the way you have your computer configured, or programs you have running that conflict with the game. all games downloaded from this site have been thoroughly tested. unless you see hundrted sof comments reporting similar problems it's almost certainly a problem at your end. Of all the games ever given away here since the project started, I can only ever recall one game that a large percentage of the community had problems running. I had the original release of that game and it wouldn't play on any operating system after Win 98. Back when that game was given away in early 2007, there were still quite a sizable percentage of the community still using Win 98; they were the lucky ones that could play that particular game (forgot the name of the game but it was a very unusual breakout with a moving platform). Every other game has always played on most of my computers. I've linked to the contact form HERE; alternatively, if the problem is game related and it is late in the day (I can't moderate 24 hours a day), please also post your issue in the forums where you may get a response from the community. All games given away here have been thoroughly checked using several anti malware suites to ensure a safe download and in the 10 plus years this site has been operating, there has never been a game infected with malware. If your security software flags an issue, it's probably the Themida code that is used to protect the game from hackers or sometimes the non invasive adware that MPC games use. Themida code can also be used to hide malware, so some security software's will automatically block anything with Themida code, even if it's absolutely safe to install. also other computer configurations (i.e. the way you have your computer set up) may have blocked the install. Often, such problems are related to your computers set up. i.e. your security may block the installation (for example quite a few game giveaways I've installed have been blocked by my copy of Zemana Anti-malware suite) Also please read the moderation policy which can be found HERE and if you do have a problem please check the FAQ's thread HERE. Thank you for reading.

FREE game offer from the moderator in exchange for quality feedback:

There are several winners of Steam keys. I've posted yet more games in the thread so if you've already made a choice but wish to change it for one of the new games you are welcome to do so. I meant to email some keys out today, but was hoping for more response, so have decided to wait until the end of this weekend before posting your keys. I am also going to add even more keys later on Saturday, or early Sunday (as time permits), so make sure you check them out to see if you'd rather change, otherwise you'll get what you've already asked for. all games already requested will be honoured as no one as made the same choice for their first choice. The following are winners.

⦁ tinyearl for Turtix 2: Rescue Adventures
⦁ Torque for Turtix 2: Rescue Adventures
⦁ Torque for Sea Legends
⦁ Mavadelo for Exterios plus other comments
⦁ JBurt for Exterios plus other comments
⦁ JoeJ for Exterios
⦁ JBurt for Exterios plus other comments 2 keys as i owe from last year.
⦁ neme for consistently posting comments weekly
⦁ tinyearl for Secret of six seas
⦁ Thomas Zwilling for Secret of six Seas
⦁ Lee C. for consistently posting feedback
⦁ delenn13 for consistently posting feedback
⦁ idluckyone for Whispering willows
⦁ Mavadelo for Old Clockmaker's Riddle

I've posted a list of approaching 300 Steam games in the forums HERE and will be adding more as time permits over the coming weeks. It is quite an extensive list of games taken from the 10 000+ Steam keys I've collected over the last several years; all were either purchased by me, with some )only a few) received free for pre-ordering games on Steam, plus a few from entering competitions and other offers). There will be a limited number of other keys available, such as Origin, uPlay and Desura keys (Desura has recently been purchased following the original owners demise and should apparently be up and running by the end of March). I will announce the winner's from the giveaway the following week. If no announcement is made, it means no one posted feedback that qualified for a free game that week. If you have won a game, I will usually leave a reply to your comment and post details in the thread I've created specifically for that purpose HERE. Once I've given a key away, the game and any comments by the winner will be removed from the list the following week. I will assume if you don't reply within a few weeks you aren't bothered about a key. Please post your preferences (list at least 3 games in order of preference over in the forums HERE. Thank you. Happy gaming.)

Depending on the quality of the feedback, I may choose to award games to more community members for each game given away, 'at my discretion'. The feedback must be about the game, and it must include a couple of paragraphs of feedback following the guidelines I've posted in the suggestions section of my review. i.e. your opinion of the game, what you liked and/or disliked plus suggestions for improvement. If you choose a game that is very cheap I may give you a second game; so, when choosing from the list I provide, please list more than one choice. If a game is chosen by more than one community member and only one key is available the key will go to the one I deem the most useful. I do have multiple keys for quite a lot of the games I've listed, so, don't be put off if you see someone else has chosen the game you want. I haven't indicated any of the games I have multiple keys for

I do own at least three community members a game from the previous giveaways that I posted several months ago. I'd totally forgotten about those. I do have a document with their names on, so they will get a game from the original list when I find the document (I'm extremely disorganized); or they can peruse the new list and choose something different. Just post a comment over in the forums in the appropriate thread. If you do post feedback with a view to getting one of the games and think you have covered the requirements, you don't have to do anything until I announce the winners the following week.
Please remember, this comments section is mainly for feedback about today's game giveaway. If you're not sure, read the moderation policy, which you can see HERE

Worked great on win 7 64bit, but too choppy to play in wine 1.8, and too slow in VirtualBox V5.0.32_Ubuntu r112930 hosting XP SP3. Although it certainly installed just fine. I tried adding openal32 driver to load in wine with no improvement, The sound track out of sync lagging behind the video. didn't try upping the ram on the Virtual Box or loading with PlayOnLinux. Super fun game in native win, am jealous I can't get it going in linux as well as windows

Aerie: Spirit of the Forest is a casual, time management and hidden object game that is fun to play for people of all ages.

Players can either choose to play the game in time mode or relaxed mode. The latter mode is optional if the player did not beat the level within the time frame. There is a total of 35 levels in this game and the objective is to help the furry animals by collecting resources like water, seeds, and life and eventually restoring the forest life. To fully complete the game, you need to collect moonstones within the time limit in every level and use them to restore the conditions of three temples. Also, the goal is clearly stated in the top-left of the level. Tips are given before the game starts and in the first two levels so that players know their aim and do not get confused. This game stores the data for up to 5 players.

In my opinion, the game is quite easy to beat within the time limit. A few levels are challenging though but that only happens once in every level because I do not have a plan/strategy to tackle the level. But once I have learned that I could not complete the game in such way, I try a different path.

Additionally, to keep the game more interesting, game devs have added hidden object game from level 6 onwards. Players need to find particular items such as flowers and crystals. The total items found are only known once you have clicked on all the items and shown after the level is completed. My favorite feature is when I was given time after I have completed the tasks to locate all the hidden objects which I find is missing in other time management game. Despite the positive remark, there is no reward given to players for finding the items and instead only a congratulatory message is mentioned.

The graphics in Aerie: Spirit of the Forest is nice to look at because it is colorful and beautiful. There is also captivating hand drawn images before they are painted. The character, Aerie looks pretty as well. The music has a calming effect and it is ambient. It does not get irritating or monotonous over time. The story is interesting but a cliche in which a disaster strikes and the heroine saves the day by saving the forest lives. The pace of the story is also okay.

Players can use three power-ups in this game - have two workers call the will-o-wisps to do two works simultaneously, the power to speed up your pace and freeze the time. The will-o-wisps power up appears most often. As for the speed power up, I find it a bit not useful because every location in the game is near, the duration for Aerie to complete the task is slow and she can take 'shortcuts' (caused by bugs) or perhaps, I do not know how to use it effectively.

Additionally, players have animals such as the eagle to speed up the process to locate the items. It may be a blessing but sometimes both Aerie and the eagle will collect the same items when I only intend the eagle to gather it. It is a flaw that may cause you to waste some time but can be overcome by the player. You will also meet the bear, deer, beaver and goat to help you out.

The dissatisfactory I have about this game is the bugs. When I clicked on the mouse too many times, Aerie does not follow the given path but instead takes the shortest route. It may be advantageous to beat the game but it is not right to have this bug in the game. Also, I have difficulty to collect the items especially the life force from the deer or goat because the game does not register it when I clicked on it.

Besides that, the character blends so well with the environment that I could not find her quicker. Luckily, the game does not start until you begin a task. During the last few levels, it was hard and confusing to find the landing spot but gets easier once I know to land on the green patch.

This game is definitely recommended for all although I would like to see more levels added to the game. Perhaps 60 levels will be sufficient. Also, features such as beating the gold, silver, and bronze time will add an extra challenge instead of only displaying the best time. Overall, the score I have given for this game is 7.5/10.

TL;DR

Pros
- Very beautiful graphics
- Ambient music
- Easy and challenging levels
- Okay story
- Hidden object game

Cons
- Bugs
- 35 levels only
- No achievements

Ujploaded and opened easily. The graphics are good and game play is very easy. You can play
against the clock or relaxed. While I liked it, I did get bored with the repetition of performing the same
activities each level. I played on to see if any change and so far none. I think It is great, though, for children
with a nice theme and freeing or having animals help. I would upgrade it to make it more advanced and or interaction with the animals etc. One thing I really liked is that the fairy/spirit moves about really fast!! Thanks for another great game and have a good week, Lee.

Game looks good. However, my cursor does not show (no arrow, no cursor, nothing). I need to scroll over blind until a hotspot highlights (including buttons like Skip, Menu, etc.). Windows 10, 64-bit.

Won't vote either way. What turns me off is this kind of "follow a tight set of rules" in order to win within time frame. Prefer more free form games that allow for more creativity.
Have tried several using this formula/format and like a lot of TM games it becomes a
labor. I understand jigsaw puzzles, as example, require use a set routine but at least it's on your own time. More fun when a game lets you find your way without locked into a rigid programming logic. But do appreciate the offer and nice to see many enjoy this kind of game play. Thanks GOTD.. Spring here Monday!

Aerie: Spirit of the Forest
A MPC game that downloaded and installed well on Win 10 Pro x64
and a strategy game with quite beautiful scenery and have to say this game has been a blessing to my daughter who is playing it in the hospital on the laptop very bored and ready to come home! She really likes this game, and it looks like a very nice one to play, have only helped a bit here and there, but she is playing through the levels diligently. No quirks or hiccups yet..although I realize I probably just jinxed it! ;) Thank you MPC and GGOTD fr these games as always, now time for me to get back up there.

Downloaded and installed but the screens come up garbled - win xp3 - is there a problem?

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

The System Requirements say you shouldn't be having a problem with XP:

⦁ OS: Windows XP/Vista/7/8
⦁ CPU: 1.0 GHz
⦁ RAM: 512 MB
⦁ DirectX: 9.0
⦁ Hard Drive: 95 MB
Try changing the Screen resolution. If you have a fairly new monitor the resolution may not be native to the game.

Win 7 Pro x64 here. Setup.exe crashes after attempting activation. It then shows the "activation successful" window and opens the respective webpage, but nothing else happens. No install files or options.

In the past I've had no such problem with GOTD installs. I'm aware of the Themidia wrapper and have successfully gotten around it before, so I'm a bit stumped here. The .gcd file is in the folder, the folder and files are whitelisted by my firewall and antivirus, I tried it with networking off, and I even checked the quarantine lists in case something was previously 'caught'. Nothing's working. :/

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

I had a similar problem last summer and even went as far as to call Microsoft as I'd just installed a new motherboard and I thought it may have been a n issue with my operating system, they connected to my computer and found the problem in less than a minute. I'd installed a previous security program that was given away over on the other side of the project earlier last year, but I'd disabled it. wen I changed the motherboard fopr some reason it became reactivated, but it was also not obvious. Once it was deleted everything returned to normal and I was able to install games from this site again. Maybe you have some security in the background that you haven't turned off so the game won't install? Also, check the FAQ's section HERE

Reply   |   Comment by Ablog  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

I haven't changed anything regarding hardware or security programs. Everything's the same as it was for all previous GOTD installs. And I'm a bit obsessive when it comes to background programs and processes too, so I'd very likely have noticed anything extraneous by now if it was still installed.

So far none of the FAQ suggestions have worked. I even see the same crash behavior in safe mode, which stumps me even more. I'm probably just gonna shrug and give up on this one. If there was more time in the activation window I could try installing on another machine, but this late in the day it's not worth scrambling over. Oh well. I hope everyone else enjoys it though. :)

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Sorry I wasn't able to help. It could be another non security program running in the back ground that is conflicting with the game? Maybe try turning off programs one at a time to see if it will install?

..I call Aerie, a builder game. Most would say time or resource management game. Kids will love this game. I'm posting my review early because this game is simple, or easy. I really enjoy the good graphics. It gives hints so a first time player can work the game- After yu play through the Forest Spirit a little a person catches on more and more. For an adult who doesn't enjoy these type games it could become boring after a few trys. This Aerie Spirit of Forest is similar to a Dec giveaway couple years ago "Lord of Shamens", (Lord of something anyway). That game had Wood, coins, pumkins to eat, stuff like that for "Builder". Aerie resources are water, bushes, and yu fill in holes. This game is recommended for Resource gamers for sure.

I downloaded this a while back from MPC.

This does get challenging if you're trying to get the achievements. It becomes more noticeable after the first section. The game limits how fast you can do things so it's hard to beat the clock unless you do things in a specific order.

Win10 x64 8G, etc. Getting Appcrash report upon attempting setup. D/L appears to go normally, 7zip reports no problems, go setup.exe, activation seems normal, then it all ends. I don't actually see an installation happening. Upon hunting for my game, I find several 'appcrash' reports. Can you help, pls.?
I've been through the same process many times with GAOTD, never has this happen before. Thanks!

Hello woodeye

It'ws probably the Themida code that is used to wrap the giveaway executable file that is causing your security software to block the installation. There are three things you can try which should allow you to install the game. Reboot your computer in safe mode with networking then install, or white list the giveaway files with your security then install or the easiest, turn off your security temporarily install then turn your security back on. The giveaway team have been operating since Dec 2006 and have given away games virtually every weekend since and have never given a game infected with malware, so it should be safe to to the latter to get the game installed. The Themida wrapper was added three/four years ago becasue the original wrapper was easy to hack the executable so that all limitations were removed. This led to giveaway games appearing on peer to peer sites and some community members went as far as to post You tube videos and post details of how to hack the games. So Themida was introduced. the reason some security software blocks the installation is becasue Themida code has also been used to hide malware, so as a precaution it is blocked.

As always downloading and installing went fine.(Windows 10 /64) If you gt the "activation successful" but no game got installed make sure you extract both the Setup.exe and Setup.gcd as they work together. The readme is not needed for games.

Interesting take on the town restore/rescue games. This time a eco theme. Restore trees, fill ravines, free animals. That kind of thing, you played one youi know how to play them all. Graphics and sounds are nice (but as always with these games after a 15 minute playthrough you will most likely mute the music) Only gripe for me is that again this game will cut off the most bottom part of the game window in full screen (1680x1050 16:10). However unlike HOG games it has not caused me to miss things as there is no important text to read down there.
8/10 overall. You like these type of games you will have a fun time with this one

Mavadelo,

Hi Mavadelo, there could be 'half-way' happy solution to better display of Games (especially older ones, but perhaps this one too) - depending on what graphic card You use and if You don't mind Game to be 'bordered' (black blocks on right and left sides). This way Game is not distorted and comfortable to see. Smaller than full screen, bigger than when played in window mode.

I found that out after days of trying to find solution and restore horribly over stretched and distorted couple of my favorite older Games (didn't know what or who was behind it..:) My original display on laptop is 1600 x 900, and I use Intel HD Graphics 4000.

The problem lies in Scaling and it's pre-conditioned (by Intel 4000 anyway) option, otherwise - the 'thick' next to Scaling won't shift, and as it happens the only way to alter that and give user more options is to change (temporarily) NATIVE Display to next smaller one and to choose in Scaling (Maintain Aspect Ratio) last option - which is 'Maintain Aspect Ratio' out of 'Center Image' or 'Scale Full Screen'. Check if Your Game is 'bordered' by this action (if not yet - play a bit with options, I did all that last Jan, so I hope I'm correct), go back to Graphics and Media Control Panel (Advanced Mode, where you were making changes) and restore your native Display to what it was.
Games will stay bordered. Reversing borders should be just as easy.
One more thing. Before altering anything at the very beginning - make sure Your Game(s) is left on full mode option when exiting.

Funnily enough most folk hate these borders and I found my solution in one of the Forum's (visited many, many different Fora and tried all sorts, trust me, Games Windows compatibility, the lot, and each try to no avail..) where people were seeking solution how to get rid of these ugly black blocks!, haha.

Hope it helps either You, or someone else. It's pretty common, and I noticed people here on GGOTD mentioning proper Display matters few times in the past.
Happy Sunday Evening to All, Greetings to WR.

Thanks for Your kind Offer WR, and grand gesture. Much appreciated!

As much as I would like to take You upon it - it would be truly wasted on me. As it happens I'm not a member of Steam any longer and after giving it a go in a past - I stayed faithful:) to freely accessed Games I can play directly from my PC/desktop and independent of any (controlled) Game Console Services... Yes, these Consoles keep everything under 'one roof' for convenience and content, so user has everything related to Games they play, purchased, License codes, new Games arrivals, etc - at hand and on tap.

Having said that (my personal choices) - I appreciate the very opposite might be someone else's choice and preference to use more interactive form of playing. I believe Steam is one of them and kudos to that. As You said WR, they're probably the largest going at present in the gaming world.

The Services (Consoles) I used and enjoyed for a long period of time having purchased great number of earlier Games from - was RealArcade and later Big Fish Games (together with their managed Console). I parted with both some time ago. Naturally in between - there were/are many free Games offered here via GGOTD, for which I stay grateful!

To my modest defence:) - I always keep an eye on any technical issues where Games are concerned and where I can help or shed light on I try to get involved.

My Regards and once again big TY. Wishing You Nice Day and happy Week ahead!

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Thanks for your reply Fran. Each to their own. :) I used to use Real Arcade and Big Fish. I think I still have access to the real arcade games via another site which i can't remember at the moment. as for Big Fish, I found a way to keep a copy of the games i'd purchased so that i can install them at any time anywhere without having to sign into my old account or use the BFG console.

Reply   |   Comment by fran  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Hi WR,

I can tell You that 'Real Arcade' became 'Game House', I too can still sign in there and find the list of purchased Games. However, my List is incomplete and if you press d/l button next to any of them you'll find out that some have turned to 60min Trials.. Now You see why I gave up on them..

Old RealArcade used to be supplied by BFG, Alawar, Hasbro and many, many other big 'Names', but when they became 'Game House' some of purchased Games were scrapped from that list. Could be to do with real ownership of them, don't know. If you contact their sites individually - they naturally have no record of Games purchased via RealArcade..

..And here my story runs full circle:) and ties with my original Post above (to Mavadelo) Couple of my favorite old Games that became over-stretched and distorted were indeed bought from RealArcade many moons ago, one was 'WeaveWords' (Redclaw Games), the other 'Yahtzee' (Zylom & 2007 Hasbro) These two Games had to be re-purchased again (full price) from their respective sites, as RealArcade had no record whatsoever of us buying them. Funny how one doesn't mind getting back what brings simple joys, even at a price!? (no matter that you have hundreds of new and newest big, modern Games to play till heart content..:) And if You say - this example begs for joining Steam I'll still smile. Yes, off course it does, no argument there. Friendly Greetings to You.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Ah yes , Gamehouse. I seem to remember some of my games were missing as well. Same thing happened when Direct to Drive sold off their digital sales division to GameFox. Half of my games disappeared. Then direct to Drive took them back, but I never got those games back. I also lost at least 50 games from my Reflexive Arcade collection and only managed to get most of the other (around 900) games back becasue I found one of those code generators online that enables me to re register the games, but not all of them. It's the one thing that does make me angry about digital games. Unless you buy from a big distributor it's likely the company will be bought out or go bankrupt. Unfortunately digital is here to stay. I too have repurchased a lot of games; lost count now, but quite a lot. Now I have far too many games to even keep a record. I daren't tell you how many games I have that I've purchased yet not played, some going back as far as several years; (it's embarrassing). Life always seems to get in the way, especially a this time when both my children have important exams coming up in May/June. My son has been offered places at all the universities hes applied to for a Masters in Pharmacy. It'll take him 5 years before he can become a registered pharmacist. My daughter is two years younger and is doing her school leaving certificates, which will determine which A levels she can do which in turn should give her access to university education. I'm not sure of the American equivalents. , lol. Take care. Thank you for your comment.

Hi WR, over Easter I had conversation with my Grandsons about Steam Games and mentioned I might had been lucky recipient of Steam Game Key granted by You earlier as a 'thankyou' for one of my Comments (above), and although I declined this Offer - They asked me if it was possible to get that free Key for them on my behalf. The Game they asked for is: 'ARK: Survival Evolved'. Is that still possible? I would be very grateful. Don't know how that could be done. I am not a member of Steam, but my Grandson's Steam Account is under the name of: 'indiejcleary'. Kind Regards from me.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi Fran

Of course. I will send the key to your email when I'm able. With everything that has happened recently, I'm so far behind with everything, plus I'm so disorganized these days. I will make a note and send you the key as soon as I've found it. (I've backed up the document where the Steam code is kept, but have forgotten exactly where i put it (the opiate meds plus a serious head injury 11 years ago has frazzled my memory). with loads of different dives and external drives, I've been trying to make sense of everything by adding all the contents of my disks to a decent data base (called Win Catalogue), but it takes ages to record some of the disks I have, for example a 25GB Blu Ray data disk can take over a day to place in the data base and I have around 400 Blu Ray disks and the external drives are between 500GB to 2TB in size. I've been updating the database for almost 18 months now and am still only part way through my DVD and Blu Ray disks and haven't even started on the larger external drives. The main reason it takes so long is that many of the games and applications I've backed up are installed versions, so are unpacked. some of the games for example once unpacked included hundreds of thousands of files. Some of the disks just have zipped or executables and can be scanned much quicker. That said, I there are other ways to find the keys i.e. I just need to peruse the web sites where I've got most of my Steam keys recorded. my Groupees, Bundle Stars and Indie Gala accounts include several thousand game titles, divided into discreet bundles, so I'll need to search each bundle individually; however my Humble, Cubic and Otakumaker bundles are listed alphabetically so I'll search through those first for the various games already promised. Google can help by Googling the game title and including bundles in the search filed. I've managed to find a few that way thankfully. :) Anyway, I will send you the key as soon as I find it. Please excuse the long explanation. :)

Hi Peggy

It's probably your security that is blocking the installation of today's game. since the Themida wrapper was introduced three years ago it's a common occurrence. There are three ways (at least) that you can do to get the game installed. The easiest is to temporarily turn off your security until the game has been installed. The giveaway team have been giving games away virtually every weekend for over 10 years and in the first 18 months virtually every day and have never given away an infected game becasue they always thoroughly check the game before it can be downloaded using several decent security bundles. You can also try white-listing the giveaway files with your security or finally rebooting your computer in safe mode with networking, then install the game. Themida code can also be used to hide malware, which is why some security software blocks the installation. It is a false positive.

This game is not installing.

As I run the setup, all it does is activate (shows the activation window), then shows the successfully activated, and take me to the web site. No error messages. I download 3 times with 2 different browsers. No luck.

No installed game on hard disk, no icons on desktop, NOTHING.!!!

I have a win 8.1 64 bits OS on an ASUS laptop.

Too bad really, I want to play this game.

If you enjoyed the Time Management sub-genre of Royal Envoy or Moai series, or Dragon Crossing -- where you collect resources and repair your way through levels towards a goal and don't get timed-out -- you'll enjoy this game; and it's appropriate for kids, too.

Your character, Aerie, in her ill-fitting dress, is so personable and likeable that I suspect she's based on a real person; the music is delightful and appropriate, and the visuals are bright. You might wonder why you find polar bears and nesting parrots in a boreal landscape, but- meh! - just go with it.

There are three 'flashlight' levels where only your next-step area is illuminated, for variation; and you can restart or replay any level for a better time.

This game was such a perfect balance between relaxation/challenge that I played it through at least six times to wind down for the evening, and I'm hoping for a sequel from World Loom.
