Today's game is a low budget racing game that seems try and borrow from a well known movie franchise and does not do a very good job of it. Fair warning, before starting there game, there are quite a few flashing lights in the opening movie scene, if anyone has seizures you could have them triggered. Although I don't have epilepsy, I did feel uncomfortable watching it.

There are lots of variety to do in the game according to the in game interface, but the game is heavily locked and you only have one track you can race on from the start. It's really a shame as I wanted to get deeper into the game to see the other tracks up front but it seems like a lot of work on the first one to figure out what you're doing.

The developers should have made all the tracks available, with the first task available to each track. That would allow me to give a more accurate opinion. At least with racing games like Mario Kart, F Zero and some other popular licensed racing games, lots of tracks are already open in the beginning and give you incentives to unlock the game.

That being said what I did see in game, the graphics did look very decent and there were plenty of options to configure the display options to your liking. Controls were kind of iffy. Driving physics were funny.

Overall this game just requires too much work in order to enjoy it. Some people may be turned off by it but it's just me.

In Brief:
2 Fast Driver is a basic arcade racing game created by K-Tech Development using Blitz 3D and released April 2005. It's the first time here on the game giveaway project. :)

You can see a couple of videos of game play HERE and HERE.
The Game:

The game starts with a cut scene emulating a street racing scene; you can skip this by pressing enter or Esc. I ran a security scan of the installed game and it flagged the usual culprits i.e. VBA32, BitDefender Theta and Jiangmin, all three common to many of these free games, but 61 other anti malware suits gave it a clean bill of health, so I would say the three hits are false positives. You can see the scan results via the following link:
https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/78d31ad5a45ea17de20594bb2dc0e1d090c6bbe2dc3e9d3ebb897a3e75e04b06?nocache=1

The hits probably pick up on the low level adware that opens your browser when you close this game down. The distributor pays the original owner of the game a cut of the advertising revenue for allowing it to be given away free. Usually it coast around £5 (you can buy it via Amazon, but only in the US.

The game includes several options to change the gameplay such as including a mirror so that you can see the vehicles behind you, smoke from your tires/tyres, sparks when crashing into other vehicles skid marks on the road and lens flare. (see the third image above for details)

There are two modes of play available Go event (campaign) or single event. Selecting Go Event will take you to the first event called Electricity. To be able to move on to the next event of which there are 30 that use six different scenarios (Electricity, City at Night, City of Lights, Parking, Supermarket, Carting Track) you need to complete the race. Each of the six scenario's include five different routes to navigate. If you take a wrong turn you will be informed.

To progress in the Go Event you have to complete the race and come in the first few to pass the finish line. To control your vehicle use the WASD to move forwards or reverse and turn or use the Space bar to brake. You can change your view from three different chase views, from various distant views to inside the vehicle behind the wheel view using the C key.

The driving mechanic is acceptable, though I did find it a little sluggish at times, but it wasn't too difficult to navigate the tracks. The graphic is decent, especially for a racing game that is now 17 years old. It's colourful and various items on the track are movable which means they don't obstruct your vehicle if you crash into them (e.g. crates and checkpoint placards.)

There are 10 different vehicles available starting with the Standard that has 20HP to the Red Thunder that has 122HP. Apart from the Standard vehicle all the others are locked at the start of the game. To unlock these you have to win races to earn the points to unlock them.

When starting a single race You can initially only select the first scenario. You'll see a choose button located between a left and right arrow key. (I didn't play through the campaign {Go Event} mode, so I'm wondering if playing through this unlocks all of the single race options) You can scroll through the different scenarios, but cannot start any of the other scenarios until you've unlocked (by winning) that scenario. Each scenario includes a map of the route you have to take. You'll see numbered checkpoints that you have to pass in the correct order to complete the race. The AI is quite aggressive and will attempt to force you into obstacles, but you can avoid this with deft finger work :)

In the single race option you can select to complete the race in one of five different circuits of the track/map. Though when first starting the single event only the first route is available. The more you play the game (and win races) the more options routes you can select to replay.
Conclusion:
I found it difficult to concentrate on both looking at the map to see where my next checkpoint was (despite the arrows telling me a turn was imminent) and trying to keep on the correct route as well as avoiding other AI vehicles; however, if you play this game regularly I'm sure the routes will become easier to navigate. You always get warning arrows if you take a wrong turn. Also, you can see where the AI vehicles are located on the map that is located in the bottom left of the screen

That said, I found the game mildly entertaining and will be keeping this game for those moments when I need a break from more involved games (e.g. Call of the Wild, Subnautica, 7 Days to Die, Dying Light, Generation Zero, older Battlefield games, ArmA 3 etc). It's a nice arcade game that, in my opinion is an ideal accompaniment to your tea/coffee break sessions.

Personally I prefer racing games like the old Flatout games (the latest version of Flatout that is current is called Wreckfest and the original four are available as a bundle with 80% off (£6.99) at the moment HERE, though it doesn't include Flatout 4: Total Insanity), and an old favourite, called Crashday (Steam have a reskinned version of this called Crashday Redline Edition or the more recent Need for Speed games or even the last couple of Grand Theft Auto games for my vehicle based addiction; overall though, a thumbs up from me. Okay, it's dated by todays vehicle based games, but I'd still give it a 7 out of 10.

Was going to try and review much earlier, but, to quote the late Gilda Radner's character, hopelessly crude and annoying news commentator Roseanne Rosannadanna, "It's always something!" Spent much of the day trying to chase down a computer bug that, in the end, defeated me.

Doesn't really matter. I am AMAZINGLY AWFUL at racing games. I have the hand-eye coordination of a rock! Was a little confused. Finally crawled around the track, after every other car had long ago completed the 3 laps, and, after completing the 1st lap, and starting on the 2nd, my lap counter didn't change. And, on single event, I crawled all away around and the event didn't end. ???? I hope these 2 results don't mean I have to have a perfect trip around the course. No going off the course, no wrong turns, no crashes into things. If so, AAAAAARGH, I'll never finish a lap! (Wait a moment while I shake the tears out of my keyboard).

Because of that, I really can't review this, but thanks GGOTD and ToomKY (and the always helpful WhiteRabbit!)

Hmm, looks and sounds similar to OutRun from Stephen's comments. Sounds like a fun one, so I'll download and try it.
Thanks to GGotD for this!

"Memory Access Violation" - no play, no fun, no way

ajk, sorry! I believe that likely points to the game not liking your onboard video or video card. Considering how old this is, it's probably not that your drivers aren't up to date, unless your system's quite old, like mine. In fact, that's the official answer in the ToomKy FAQ for your problem: card incompatibility, old video drivers, or not up to date DirectX software. If your not 100% sure that your drivers and DirectX are up to date, might be worth checking.

I will provide my analysis later. Unfortunately my sinuses have kept me up throughout the night and I've taken some strong sinus meds and hope to feel sleepy enough to get a good nights rest, the rest of the night as its currently 1:20am here in the USA in California.
