Jack has posted a fix for the issue, please check through the comments
Again I’ve had problems uploading images. I think the host site must turn off servers at night as it only happens between midnight and 8 am. I will post images later if I’m able to upload them.
Also, I too get the issue with no text, so had to guess what each button did. The first level was playable because the developer used thumbnail images for the items you need to find. I don't have the time to explore further as family commitments are paramount at this time. I'll return to moderate later this evening.
1001 Nights: The Adventures of Sinbad
In Brief
A Hidden Object game from 2009
Installation:
1001 Nights: The Adventures of Sinbad downloads to a 64.4 MB zip file that unzips to three files, (a setup.gcd security wrapper, the set-up file and a read me). Those with multiple hard drives can save games on any drive they wish. The newly installed game is …. MB in size. The game installs to the following path by default, but can be changed by the user if you prefer:
C:\Program Files (x86)\MyPlayCity.com\1001 Nights - The Adventures of Sinbad
Four shortcuts are installed to the desktop, three of which can be safely deleted (Play Online Games, MyPlayCity Games and shortcuts to a free online game which vary each week). Also, if you don't like icons installed to the quick launch task bar, make sure you uncheck the box when the additional tasks window appears (after the Select Start Menu Folder window)
Introduction:
1001 Nights: The Adventures of Sinbad is a very exciting game full of mysteries and legends. It is set in the kingdom of Basra, the pearl of the East. A wicked wizard became the ruler and oppressed all the people. Among them is Sinbad, a poor fisherman who once found a treasure under the waters. There was a sunken ship full of gold and riches. A voice told Sinbad not to touch the gold and find several objects such as an astrolabe, an hourglass and a spyglass. Sinbad didn't know whose voice spoke to him but he decided to help this talisman. So he found all the items and a beautiful girl appeared out of the water. Her name was Chalida and she once was an heir to the throne of Basra. But an evil sea demon wanted to rule the country so she broke the royal crown with seven gems. And now Chalida is a part of the sunken ship until she finds all the gems. Help the poor princess in the game 1001 Nights: The Adventures of Sinbad! First, you will need to find the map of the sea which will show you the places where the gems are hidden. The first location is Fish Island. An ancient guardian is protecting it so you need to be very careful. Find the Sun Flame and the Magic Torch to recover the first gem from the cave. As soon as you cope with this task, hurry to the second location and don't waste time. Princess Chalida will guide you through your search and help you in various mini games and puzzles of 1001 Nights: The Adventures of Sinbad. Good luck with this challenging journey!

The Game:
While not one of the better hidden-object games (HOGs) to debut in 2009, Alawar’s 1001 Nights: The Adventures Of Sindbad is a decent adventure for younger players or those new to the HOG genre. Seasoned players, however, might find this digital download simply too easy.
The fictitious story surrounds Sindbad the Sailor, his amazing adventures and how he met (and saved) his true love. Inspired by the adventures penned in 1001 Arabian Nights, this enjoyable tale includes many wild locations, monsters and supernatural foes. In the game, you must help Princess Chalida locate the seven gems of her royal crown in order to break an ancient curse that has trapped her in a wooden body.
Fans of HOGs will immediately pick up on the game mechanics: players will see a busy scene and a number of objects to find it in it. Listed at the bottom of the screen will be words — such as "goblet," "13," "squirrel" or "3 carrots" — and when you’ve found the objects in the environment you must click on them to make them disappear. There is no timer in this game, nor is there a penalty for clicking incorrectly too many times. If you need a hint, you can click to see where an item is hiding, but you’ll need to wait two or three minutes before using it again.
But there are a few main problems with 1001 Nights when it comes to the HOG component. For one, the objects are just too easy to find. In fact, I’ve found you don’t even need to look at the bottom of the screen for the list of objects as there aren’t many to begin with, plus they usually stand out in some way (i.e. more colourful than the background) and there is no penalty for clicking incorrectly. I can clear about 75 percent of the objects without even looking at one word. Not good.
Secondly, to give players a hint, random objects you need to find in the scene glisten for a moment — and there’s no way to turn that off in the Options menu. Third, a small beef of mine with some HOGs is when the items have nothing to do with the locations, and 1001 Nights is no exception — so expect to look for a clothespin in a shipyard, a digital camera in the desert and a kettle underwater.
Some of the twists on the classic HOG formula are more enjoyable, though, such as using your mouse like a flashlight, placing colourful gems back into the scene in order to create a magical effect or solving riddles instead of reading the name of the object. An example of the latter include "It gives light and warmth but you can’t look at it" (the sun) or "It has eight appendages but it’s not a spider" (a lobster).
The eight different kinds of mini-games are also somewhat enjoyable, such as a jigsaw puzzle, "traffic jam"-style sliding puzzle, match insects to its silhouette, and so on. But they’re far too easy and you can skip these, too.
1001 Nights isn’t a complete mess — in fact, I enjoyed the Arabic music, storyline and nearly 30 locations — but when it comes to the gameplay (the most important thing) this is merely an average diversion. Perhaps if the game was more challenging and if the developer threw in a few unique touches it would be easier to justify the purchase, but as it stands now it’s only ideal for younger or novice gamers looking for a simple HOG to sink their mouse into.

Conclusion:
1001 Nights: The Adventures of Sinbad has a decent story and fun characters, with lots of locations to visit (around 30). The Arabic music is pleasant and the graphics are good. There’s no timer, which is a plus for me. The down side is that it's too easy to find items due in part to the glistening effect that shows you where to find them. A straightforward Adventure HOG based on a story we all know.

Problems getting the game to work:
If you're having problems installing or activating or getting 1001 Nights: The Adventures of Sinbad to work please visit the FAQ's Thread HERE and read through the communities comments because sometimes fixes have already been posted, for example, a common issue seen since the Themida wrapper was introduced three years ago is that some community members installation of the game are blocked by their security because Themida code has been known to hide malware, (usually an error message is flagged for example 'The executable is corrupted' even though in reality it is not); so as a precaution some anti malware programs will block and even delete the suspect installation files even though the files (i.e. the setup, read me and setup.gcd files are actually totally free from malware. This issue can be solved either by rebooting your computer in safe mode with networking or a quicker method is to temporarily turn off your security software to allow the installation. You could also try whitelisting the setup.gcd file. In the almost 11 years this game giveaway site has been operating there has 'never' been a game given away that was infected with malware.
If for any reason you want to contact the giveaway team, for example, you have a game to offer the community, or are unable to download the latest game or other issues that the FAQ's thread or these comments don't cover or solve you can do so HERE
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank MyPlayCity for giving away 1001 Nights: The Adventures of Sinbad and also to the game giveaway team, as always, for securing other ways to get free games.

Hi Whiterabbit-uk,

I gather from all the comments that this MyPlayCity version (.exe dated from 2009?) is faulty.
The in 2012 given away version by Alawar (.Exe date: 19 April 2010) still works OK on my W7 laptop.
Maybe you can contact the team to have this corrected?

Regards, Johan.

Also thanks to MyPlayCity and WhiteRabbit for the game and work.

Looks like a good game, objects are on the small side, but findable. Look forward to playing.

I had the same problem with no text, but was able to fix it, using Windows 10, no compatibility mode changes necessary.

1) Navigate to the install location, default is "C:\Program Files (x86)\MyPlayCity.com\1001 Nights - The Adventures of Sinbad".
2) Rename the "rus" folder to "eng".
3) Play the game.

Seems like a small oversight with the installer.

After the fix, if running windowed, some foreign language (Chinese?) is evident in the title bar, but doesn't affect full screen as far as I can tell.

Thanks for everything GGOTD!

Hello ketzele,

You know enough about your OS to navigate to different file locations and rename and etc., so you are doing your part!

BTW, In the "User" folder of Sinbad's install location, you will find a text file called "Game.log". It gives lots of clues for troubleshooting. Try it with a "rus" folder and see. :)

Regarding the fix, if the "rus" folder had actually contained Russian language stuff and not English, we'd have been out of luck!

There have been many HOG games that were broken that I couldn't fix. Just good fortune that I was able to fix this one. My SO loves them and will finish one anywhere from 45 minute to three hours. That's an expensive habit! :)

Amorina, I just tried the fix on my Win7 desktop and it worked. I have an external hard drive that I put my games on and saved this game to my folder external programs. I then went in and changed the rus folder to eng. I don't know if the fact that I saved it to an external drive had anything to do with it or not, but the only thing I had to change when it ran was in options to put it to full screen.

See the comment Jack posted. Ignore the game, go to the installed folder at C:\Program files (x86)\MyPlayCity.com\100 nights...... and rename the folder named Rus to Eng. that will fix the problem with no text in game.

I went through the hassle of downloading the Big Fish trial version of this and it worked fine.

However, the GGOTD version is broken, and even copying all the .pak files from the BFG version didn't cure it — beyond adding a little round logo "button" on the otherwise blank screen. I've since removed all traces of the BFG version.

I haven't tried the MPC version but am happy to accept the verdict of others that that version is broken as well. Disappointing, because I was really looking forward to this one! Also: VERY unlike GGOTD to release a broken game for download. I really hope this is sorted out soon and that we will get a re-run of this one, possibly next weekend?

............................Moderator Comment...........................

The MPC version is allso broken, but Jack has posted a fix. :) The MPC downloads no longer have the toolbar checkboxes etc, but I reckon that is a temporary thing as the files still remain in the games installed folder.

Is there any route to have the developers know about the "no text" issue and perhaps fix it in the download here? Can't believe that the MPC version would have that problem (I haven't checked) or it would have been taken down. Have been craving another HOG/adventure/puzzle game, though this one sounds a tad easy for my taste, so I would have liked to try it.

Like everyone else, I had no text whatsoever. I am using Windows 8.1. I assumed it was a display problem because it is an older game, but no change using the Windows compatibility troubleshooter was able to restore the text. Normally I am able to fix any problem this way, but it was impossible to play under these conditions and I removed the game. If I had seen the comments from others first, I would not have even bothered installing it.
