Wedding Salon

In Brief

A Time Management game of the traditional dash type; which means lots of clicking and harder end levels.

If you wish to see the problems section, which I've now incorporated into the FAQ's thread you can find it HERE and the recent games deals (now called The Weekly roundup of game deals) is HERE. I've still to post the installation section. Will do so later. In the meantime, if you have problems installing the game, do post a comment, thank you.

The Game:

As wonderful as weddings might be, the preparation can sure be complicated and troublesome. In Wedding Salon, a new time management game by developer Sugar Games, you can experience this exciting rush by following Holly, who manages wedding shops all over the country while planning her own marriage at the same time. We were fairly entertained by Wedding Salon, but not enough to give it a stellar rating.

wedding salon 003
wedding salon 005

Wedding Salon features 70 levels in ten different shops, although that sounds much more than it actually is. Experienced time management players will probably finish all levels within three to four hours, which still is a convincing playing time. The game only introduces one mode, but the player can at least try to reach an expert goal in each level. Those expert points can then be spent on Holly’s own dream wedding, a feature that is very similar to the decoration of a VIP lounge in Hotel Dash. You can choose the meal, the wallpaper in her suite, and a lot of other details, which is quite fun and actually a good motivation to get expert scores in every level.

The gameplay of Wedding Salon can be easily compared to Sally’s Spa or a previous game by this developer called Wendy’s Wellness. Customers enter your store and take seats in the waiting area. You can then drag them to the appropriate stations according to their wishes displayed in thought bubbles. Those stations differ from shop to shop, and you have to play mini-games at most of them to increase the patience of your customers.

wedding salon 008
wedding salon 013

Those mini-games mainly consist of multiple-choice tasks, such as clicking the appropriate earring, create the desired cake, or choosing the correct pattern and color for a dress. If you finish those mini-games successfully your customers will earn hearts, which means that you will earn more money. You are also able to click roses or hearts inside shops to increase the patience of the currently least patient customer. The game also introduces a different kind of chaining. Instead of colors or similar actions you are rewarded for treating men and women at separate stations. The only reward for doing so is that you don’t have to perform the mini-game after treating three persons of the same gender at one station.

Customers do not differ notably in Wedding Salon with only one exception. Younger customers will want to visit stations backwards, which regularly messes up your carefully planned order. Certainly you are also able to upgrade each shop with the money you earn, although those upgrades do not really differ at different locations and generally lack any originality. You are able to improve the coffee machine, hire assistants for various stations or upgrade stations themselves. Every once in a while there are also shorter, but quicker levels where you have to perform the same mini-game in a limited amount of time.

wedding salon 030

As you probably have already recognized by now, I’m not overly excited about this altogether run-of-the-mill time management game. Wedding Salon does nothing terribly wrong, but it lacks any pleasant features, welcome surprises, or at least the polish of similar titles. While the game is quite challenging at times, there is no real strategy about it, so that replaying levels is not as entertaining as it could be. Controls become a bit annoying at times, too. Between all the clicking and dragging and the pop-up mini games, there is no real flow, which is one of the decisive factors determining whether a game of this genre is fun or not.

Furthermore Wedding Salon also lacks real variation – the mini-games are rather similar, customers do not differ enough to require or enable strategies and the graphics are definitely outdated, although they at least convey a certain charm considering the theme of the game.

In the end, Wedding Salon is a nice variation of the popular Sally-series in a very different setting, but with much less polish, uninspired mini-games, and at times annoying controls. Nevertheless it cannot hurt to try the game for any time management game fan. New releases in this genre are few and far between right now, and at least Wedding Salon offers a somewhat fresh setting, a convincing playing time, and an interesting challenge in some levels.

Conclusion:

A typical old school time management game in the dash style. As with most games of this sub genre, you'll be clicking to the point of distraction later in the gamer as it becomes more complex. If you like challenging time management games this is definitely for you. :)

Scoring

Game play: 8

Graphics: 8

Audio: 7

Re-playability: 7

Originality: 6

Fun Factor: 7.5

Overall Score = 43.5 out of 60 = 7.25 out of 10.

I know the score doesn't really reflect what was said in the game the review above. I personally don't like this type of time management game; in fact for me they are the worst kind of arcade game, but I always try to be as unbiased as I can with scoring these giveaways. Becasue of my dislike for this game I've tried to score for technical merit. The review above was posted on Gamezebo (follow the reference I've provided below the game review) because I didn't have the patience to play more than four or five levels. That at least gave me an insight into the games features , music and re-playability as well as originality. I did like the graphic as it was crisp and fitted in with a wedding theme. A gaudy graphic just wouldn't have been right.

I love the new style of review! I don't know if you really get any feedback on it but I do like it. It doesn't look like the greatest of game style this week but free is still free so I might end up giving it a try anyway. Thank you for all the work you put in for us grumblers. ;) Also I hope whatever had you tied up yesterday is better and everyone is doing well.

Finally !!!! no puzzle or hidden objects. I'll take games like this any day of the week. I really wish GGAOTD would take a few months off on these hidden objects games as they are lame. Bring back games like nuclear ball, Neoball, Magicball, just to name a few. I almost feel like I hit the game lottery today when I came across this game. It's about time. If I only had more then two thumbs I would give em. But, seems as I only have two, that's all I can give on this game. I say bring back some of the good ole games that were fun like I had mentioned instead of these LAME puzzles and H.O.G.'s

This is almost exactly like Bella Design. I don't know how frantic it gets, but Bella Design wasn't as bad as some of the Dash-type games. I don't like the extremely fast-paced clicky games as my arthritic fingers don't cooperate, but I enjoyed Bella Design and look forward to working my way through this one.

The system requirements only go to Win 7. Will it work on Win 8 or 10?

I downloaded and played it. It does work well with Win 8. It's a typical time management game so I loved it. There are interesting mini games here and there. Now that Play first has sold out to whomever, and only makes Diner Dash for mobile, I need a new game maker to get great TM games from. Thanks to GGOTD, I have one new one :)

I'm going to decline. Ty anyway, Sugar Games and GGOTD. I have low manual dexterity. Mediocre at best. I will never excel at this type of game, so, for me, it has to have something more than just fast click challenge. These type of games increase my dexterity, but many game types will do that. It has to have something more, in terms of strategy, or setting, or execution. I could be wrong, but I suspect the Gamezebo review is on point, and the physical challenge is the bulk of the attraction. And, like I say, other games can have that and still give me more. I do enjoy some tm games: Jane's Hotel, Gourmania are just 2 examples. Not a condemnation, but an explanation for game planners. I think those that will only go for click challenge will be a small minority. And, some will like the wedding boutique idea, certainly. So, those groups might be large enough to justify creating this type of game. After all, some will play nearly any hidden object or match 3. But, in a general sense, it's better to include more, to broaden your potential customers.

I went ahead and downloaded today's game automatically but I'm not even sure I'll install it after reading the comments. Concidentally, I'm drinking a cup of tea at the moment and this type of game - the "Dash" genre - is "not my cup of tea".
Yesterday's "Amanda's Sticker Book" is also silly and "girly" and, as some commenters mentioned, tends to run slow.
I have been having a lot of fun with Farmington Tales and Royal Envoy. I've played an insane amount of Mini-Hockey. Fishdom Frosty Splash is a perrenial favorite that I've played for years. I'm not quick enough for the Star Defender games but the first levels are fun.
Past games from last year that I especially enjoyed incude both Gardenscapes, CropBusters, Barn Yarn, Family Vacation, Solitaire Mystery and Viking Brothers.
I was caught by surprise by the social commentery implicit in Viking Brothers. The Player is the Vikings, white invaders clearing and settling land while slaughtering the red-skinned, totem pole building "savages". American History 101, basically.
Royal Envoy also has a none too subtle political subtext with the evil usurper trying to get elected King while spreading hatred.
In the past I remarked that the GGOTD site's deluge of hidden object games had converted me into a HOG fan, but I confess that some are too challenging. The games where the items are too well hidden, all brown or gray (like the computer coloring in modern comic books) or too small for these tired old eyes to find, I tend to play for a few rounds, set aside and eventually delete.
The cosmetic changes to the site do not trouble me and the process of having a link sent to my old junk mail email address adds a step but is not that bothersome as long as the games are free.
And of course Whiterabbit's contributions here are always appreciated.

I found this comment useful because it made me laugh so very hard. Commodore C64 would have thought this game was made in a future with flying cars and hoverboards that didn't kill people and catch houses on fire.

When I click on download and it then asks for FB or email, I click the Facebook button, but can't log in because I don't have a face book, so cancel it, then the proper download button appears, (you can do this with the email as well. Just make up an email. So I don't have to sign in to get my download.

They changed it back so I will withdraw my thumbs up to the site.

As for the game it's fun if you enjoy TM games. I usually get a few levels into this type of game and get stuck because I can't click fast enough. On top of that this game is not merely an extraction to your hard drive. Instead it is a full installation so I will pass. Thank you Sugar Games for the offer. GGOTD team I will not be thanking you until you return to the format that 99.99 % of your users have been calling for.

"On top of that this game is not merely an extraction to your hard drive."

Purely FWIW & all that...

In every Game GOTD offer I've seen so far over the years, the only things that are different when the game has an installation routine is an uninstall, usually entered in the registry, & shortcuts. You can normally install to the same folder as the rest of your games, or move the game's folder afterward. I usually run setup.exe in a VM, copying the game's folder, wherever it may be, but that's just me.

"GGOTD team I will not be thanking you until you return to the format that 99.99 % of your users have been calling for."

I would hazard a guess that if *that* many people were upset with the new design, downloads would have almost ceased, forcing the GOTD team to roll it back. With the regular GOTD site that hasn't happened, & I have no reason to expect it with the game site either.

As far as thanking the GOTD team, I'm not aware of an alternative site where we can get free games, minus the presence of toolbars, web pages opening on exit etc. Personally I thank anyone who gives me a free game, but in this case, without the add-ons, I think double thanks are in order, but again that's just me.

Thanks for your comment Mike. Sadly you are right, they've made the change and it's extremely unlikely to revert back, even though many would like it to. I really don't like the admin panel, every tine I moderate a comment it defaults back to the first page. Alright initially, but as the comments grow, the more I have to do to moderate. Also no more emoticons and I have to type in code now instead of using the scripts that used to be provided. :(

GB That was GPC111, as you likely know GB. It looks clear to me it was him and not you, so I wouldn't worry. Unless Whiterabbit fixed it in the 26 minutes between the comment above this and this, my response, in which case, still no need to worry. :)

so what was done wrong?

Hi Marcel, for some reason, if you use Firefox or I.E. it won't work. you need to use either Waterfox or Chrome to send your email. I don't know why.

edit:

Apparently it does work for some. I could never get an email confirmation when i used Firefox or Chrome, so used Waterfox, which worked for me. Perhaps try different browsers to see if one will work. alternatively, try clicking on the Facebook button, then, when the Facebook page opens, click on cancel. I found the Green download button would still work, even when cancelling the Facebook page before logging i.
