In Brief:
Village RPG is an old school action RPG created with the Unity engine.

You can see a video of game play HERE.
The Game:
The game opens to a configuration window where you can select the screen resolution, the graphic quality (Fastest, Fast, simple, good, beautiful and Fantastic) as well as choose which monitor to have the game displayed on if you have a multimonitor display.

On starting the game you are presented with a character selection screen, with a choice of a swords person or a wizard/witch. Once chosen you wander around the village looking for weapons or magical potions depending on which character you choose; the swordsman can pick up potions and the magic user can access certain items from the swordsmiths shop.

Movement is via the mouse; just click where you wish to move to and your character responds by walking to that spot.

You start off with 1000 gold and can purchase various items from each of the shops. To do this approach the vendor that is standing outside their store. A message will pop up that says welcome to potion shop. Clicking on the downward arrow at the bottom of the message will open up the shops menu, which initially only contains three potions , two HP potions and a MP potion. You can select any of these, then click on the buy option. a small box with an empty field appears with an OK button next to it. Type in the number of potions you wish to buy, then click on the okay button. I would advise you first approach the swordsmith to purchase a weapon and armour first.

You can zoom in closer to your character by using the mouse wheel.

From the potion shops menu, potions cost between 30 to 60 gold depending on which potion you choose to buy, for example a potion that gives you an extra 50 hit points for a limited time costs 60 whereas a small potion of the same gives you 20 hit points. There are a limited number of potions at the start of the game, but I'm assuming you discover other potions later in the game.

The weapon shop has a lot more goods to purchase at the start of the game, but all the best ones are out of your price range. i.e.

Wood Sword.............300 gold.........+5 attack...................................................sell for 150 for Swordsperson.
Steel Sword..............1200Gold.......+12 attack...................................................sell for 600..........for Swordsperson.
BroadSword.............3000 gold.......+25 attack, +12 defence.............................sells for 1500......for Swordsperson.
Wood Rod.................300 gold.........+3 attack, +10 MP.......................................sells for 150........for Magic User.
Magic Rod.................1600 gold.......+20 attack, +20HP, +50MP..........................sells for 800........for Magic User.
Helm.........................500 gold.........+6 defence...................................................sells for 250........for Swordsperson.
Magic Hat.................800 gold.........+4 defence, +15 MP......................................sells for 400........for Magic User.
Bronze Armour.........800 gold.........+8 defence...................................................sells for 400........for Swordsperson.
Silver Armour...........1800 gold.......+14 defence, +30 HP....................................sells for 900........for Swordsperson.
White Robe...............700 gold........+4 defence, +10 MP.......................................sells for 350........for Magic User.
Dark Robe................2000 gold.......+10 defence, +5 attack, +30 MP....................sells for 1000......for Magic User.
Shield.......................400 gold.........+3 defence....................................................sells for 200........for Swordsperson.
Hard Shield..............1500 gold.......+12 defence..................................................sells for 750........for Swordsperson.
Boot .........................500 gold.........+2 defence, +0.5 MS.....................................sells for 250........for both classes.
Gold Ring .................500 gold.........+20 HP, +10 MP.............................................sells for 250........for both classes.
where:
HP = Hit Point (indicator of your health)
MP = Mana Points (indicator of the amount of magic you have to use)

I haven't a clue what MS stands for. Researching it, the closest I could find related to gaming was Mortal Strike from World of Warcraft.
You'll find various weapons, each with its own attack and defence attributes for example the broadsword, that costs 3000 gold has an attack of +25 and a defensive +12 whereas a wooden sword costing 300 gold has an attack of +5 with no defensive capabilities.. Both the swordsman and magic user can buy weapons from the weapons shop, but certain weapons can only be purchased by each one i.e. the wooden rod can only be purchased by the person wielding magic. There are also armour types available from the weapons shop such as an helm or a magic hat, shields, dark robe and some items that can be used by both classes such as the Boots (that gives the wearer +2 defence & +0.5 MS) and Gold Ring (that gives the wearer a +20 HP and a +10 MP).
Village-RPG007

Village-RPG008
At the start of the game you should approach the Quest Giver/Mayor of the town who tells you that their village was attacked by a wolf and asks your help in killing it, with a reward if you are successful. Your first quest is to kill 10 baby wolves. You will be given 1000 gold if you succeed. You can accept or decline (cancel) the quest if you wish. If you cancel, you'll still be given the same quest if you approach the quest giver again.

As you progress; earning gold by killing enemies and wild animals as well as completing quests, you can upgrade your equipment. You also go up in levels as you gain experience.
Conclusion:
Overall a nice little action RPG game, with retro styled graphics. If you are already familiar with role playing games such as the Elder Scrolls, Gothic, DragonAge, System Shock, or the earlier Fallout games (1 & 2) and jRPG's such as Baldur's Gate Ultima, Neverwinter Nights & Icewind Dale: Village RPG will seem far too easy and much less interesting. However, if you are relatively new to RPG games, this is probably a reasonable introduction to the genre. Personally I would rather play my old Fallout 1 hard copy or my Steam version of Baldur's Gate or my GOG version of Icewind Dale or even better the more advanced Dungeons and Dragons games, the later Fallout 3 & 4 or the later Elder Scrolls games (Morrowind, Oblivion & Skyrim or the Online version that encompasses all the previous Elder Scrolls games; all of these are vastly superior to this game Not only that, you can likely pick up most of the mentioned titles when on Steam sales, or via sites like CD Keys for not much more than what you'd normally pay for today's game over on itch.io. that asks for $5 or more to add it to your Itch.io account. Of course, Falcoware have given this away for $0 today; so, grab it while you can and check it out for yourself.

Notes on Security
I scanned a zipped copy of the installed game using Virus Total and it found zero hits from 59 antimalware engines.

The downloaded executable 'may' include some low level adware that only opens your browser once to Falcoware's home page after the game has installed and also places four shortcuts onto your desktop (which can be safely deleted once the game has installed).

The installation does NOT inject any malware into your system. When your browser is opened to Falcoware's home page following the games installation, it earns Falcoware games some money, part of which is given to the developer of the game for allowing the game to be given away free. Once you've installed the game, there are no more browser redirections. This is because Falcoware removed their installer over a year ago (that installer would show an advert for a game and then open your browser each time you played and then closed the game down.)

You can see the results of the scan via the following link:

Whiterabbit-uk,

Other Free Games:

For other free games, please check Delenn's threads over in the giveaway forums HERE (non Steam games) and HERE (Steam games) for the latest freebies; it's kept up to date frequently, whenever a free game becomes available, (thanks for keeping this up to date Delenn, very much appreciated).

Also for the latest Steam sales check THIS Steam database site out. You can list the games in 'price' & 'percentage off' by clicking the headers. If you link SteamDB with your Steam account, all games that you already have will be highlighted in green and those in blue are on your wish list. When there are Steam games being given away, you'll see the percentage off as 100%. It's worth checking this regularly to make sure you don't miss the best deals and freebies. Delenn usually posts links to all free games within several hours of them going live, so check her links at the top of this comment as well.
SteamDB
Don't forget to check Indie Gala's freebie section HERE, then click on the Showcase header, selecting freebies from the drop down menu; the most recent additions include:

1) ... Six Sides of the World (a puzzle videogame that takes you into an intergalactic journey through different star systems riddled with brain-racking challenges)

2) ... Byte Family (this one was given away previously, but was then removed from the free section, another chance to grab) it - Overcome obstacles and restore the cyber world Byte Family, eliminating the system virus, unlocking new game modes and gaining new skills!

3) ... Avani: The Primal Land (Explore, gather, learn, craft and build in the world of Avani: The Primal Land. Fight, hunt and tame wild animals. Animals have their own genetics and no animal is like the other. The interactive taming process allows making a real bond with each tame. Avani offers a unique crafting system combined with a huge skill tree and an intuitive building system mixed with traditional survival game elements)

4) ... Cov Shooter (Try to survive as many waves as possible, upgrade your stats and weapons to do that)

5) ... Garfield Kart (a family oriented racing game with cartoon like graphics)

6) ... Nostradamus the Last Prophecy, (a point and click mystery adventure)

The following (previously) free games have now been removed from the free library: Snowball, Pixel Puzzles 2: Christmas , Die Young (Full version), Distortions, Dino Run DX, Cheap Golf, Kill Em All, Dead Hungry Diner, and Contract with the Devil. All remaining freebies can be found in the showcase section (112 games are available). Not all games that go into the showcase remain free and are removed after a short period; so, you should grab them as soon as you can.

The latest free game from Epic is a repeat called Galactic Civilization III that was originally given away last year on the 22nd Jan 2021; so, if you missed it back then here's your opportunity to grab it now. :) - Build a civilization that will stand the test of time! Choose from dozens of unique races and make a name for yourself across the galaxy through diplomacy, espionage, technological advances, and more.

Next Thursday the 20th January at 4pm UK/11am Eastern we will be getting Relicta a first-person physics-based puzzle game where you need to creatively combine magnetism and gravity to unravel the secrets of Chandra Base. Play as a top physicist stranded on an eerie, derelict Moon base. Find your way around the enigmatic, terraformed craters by bending gravity and magnetism to your will in order to solve physical puzzles. Will you rush straight ahead and try to reach safety - or will you take your time to gather clues and unravel the intrigues of 22nd century orbital politics? Buried in the eternal darkness of the lunar craters lies a secret that might claim your daughter’s life - or change the fate of humanity forever. Are you ready to face the ultimate consequences of your research?
The best Indie Bundles sites that have been operating from around 2011 are the Humble Bundle and Indie Gala sites (though the latter isn't as good as it used to be) where you'll sometimes find decent bundles with over 90% off the usual price of the games included in the bundles. The Humble site is in my opinion the best; though a more recent addition that is worth checking out called Fanatical games looks to be a serious contender for that title as they have some very good bundles. You can find Fanatical games (that used to be called Bundle stars) HERE.

I've restarted a project I originally started back in 2008 that used to be called Good Games to Grab, where I posted free games over in the forums on a daily basis. I won't be posting them daily this time; only as and when I have time and the inclination. You can find the new forum section entitled 'Free Game Project' HERE

So far I've posted two excellent games i.e. Hidden & Dangerous Deluxe (a squad based solo shooter) and Battlegroup 44 (a free standing mod for Battlefield 2 that is a follow up to the original Battlefield 1942). Plus, I've moved over to the new forum, a couple of games from a failed restart of this project from just before the pandemic; (one of my favourite breakouts called Breakquest and an android game called Messy Paths).

Fridays free game from Falcoware i.e. Black And White Apocalypse by the developer hammergames is apparently always free and can also be downloaded as a colour version. The community member Space pointed this out yesterday. You can find both versions over on itch.io via the following links. Black & White version, and Coloured version. :)

You can also find 'all nine' of the developers games (for free) HERE. Some of them look like they are worth investigating. :)

Stay safe everyone.

Game is SERIOUSLY in need of some basics.... system for turning off sound, and for saving and exiting the game! Tried every key and combo I could think of and can't find a way to save or exit! Had to kill the app in windows to close it, which, of course, looses all progress.

Deb,

Totally agree with you Deb; I've already deleted it from my computer. I've got far superior games of this type in my Steam library.
