Boy, Renegade... talk about having a bloated opinion of one's self. Plus, a strange perception of what "high standards" means. And I'm sure Whiterabbit's standards are higher than the lot of you. Most of us value his opinion more than any on this board. So go ahead and start a team named after yourself. Maybe it should be "Delusios of Grandeur."

Considering that a "generation," which used to be 30 years, is now 17 (and in many places in this country, USA, 15 years) I think concerns about mere nudity are ridiculous.

Its not as bad as people think when you try playing it. Although I think it could have been a little better with the controlling of the character. But it is good game considering it was free. Thumbs up for me.

Installed XP pro sp3, but when I try to play it Kaspersky Internet Security Suite v7.0.1.325 says Troll is trying to install a keylogger, only options are terminate, allow or add to trusted zone. Not sure what to do, is this normal for this game? It does seem to let me play even though I didn't choose an option, but the mouse control isn't too good.

It took me a while to figure out how to play it. Even the readme html wasn't very clear. A little basic, but an interesting game.

Hey Belgian Dude - There is wisdom in your words along with a trait that I admire. It has to with the "higher standards" that you referred to. Not in the sense of one person being better than another, because in that light there is only "One" who is above us equals (and no WhiteRabid it's not you that I'm refering to). Anyway I understood your "higher standards" comment to mean progress, growth, taking something to a higher level of gameplay. Doing something different or in ways that makes something that has reached mundane into "hey, I didn't know you could do that! Coool. Without gamers like "Belgian Dude" we'd all still be playing checkers and getting all excited when a varient comes out with green and brown checkerboard. "Belgian Dude" what say you and I, "The Renegade" team-up to settle this thing with Bugs(oh pardon me) whiterabid (I'm sorry my apologies) WhiteRabbit and company on a field of honor "TRACKMANIA" (the free version so everyone will be a level playing field)... We can continue this discussion in our Game GAOTD forum!!! I'll await you all!

Fun little game, albiet it's older (2002), but hey, some of the older games are the best. And of course the descriptions written of it by the developer were probably right on at the time, and not for six years further on in technology. As for your having such high standards, Belgian Dude, I do also, when I'm actually purchasing a game. Otherwise, I'm quite easy to please when it comes to free offers. You can take it or leave it, without ripping it apart. Gee. I wonder if there are people out there that actually qualify to meet your high standards as a "friend." I tend to accept my friends' faults. Nobody's perfect.

Thank goodness its only a small percent of boring people, My favorite remark is the one about not downloading the free game because of King Uterus name.
Like who cares.
I love the Games and the Giveaways and am grateful.
I love this site the things I learn good and bad about what people think and I hate the stupid whining crybaby comments

Cute game but not very Kid friendly. One "monster" is a headless man (head under arm) naked with his you-know-what swinging in the breeze as he runs towards you. Another character moons you and smacks his ass (and I don't mean a donkey). This was just in the first three levels I played.

Also, it has the same music as King Mania (another game by the same company).

I downloaded it too see what it was like. So far, I'm not sure what to think.

I don't mind that the graphics aren't top notch visuals that you get in the majority of games today. Sure, they could be better, but you don't need eye candy to have a great game. It looked okay on my new monitor (widescreen), although I need to work a bit on its settings to prevent 4:3 games from getting stretched out - at least this game doesn't look horrible when it's stretched or scaled. It doesn't look superb either, though.

The comparisons to Arkanoid/Breakout are way off. Sure, there's a bit there, but it's a stretch. Smacking the fireballs back is an exercise in patience, as it seems that all you can do is hit them forward, although one of the power-ups splits it into three, which does help. I haven't figured out what most of the other stuff does yet, besides the heart, which restores some of the buildings behond you. There was the fireball splitting power-up, but I don't remember what one it was, and I think there was something to give the troll stone skin. Or something like that.

The sounds are hit or miss. The belching gets annoying after a couple minutes and the other "body" sounds are much the same. The music I've encountered so far is tolerable, but I didn't get very far into the game to hear the rest.

I haven't encountered any of the nudity that's been mentioned, or else I haven't noticed it. I'm going to refrain from the nudity = art issue, as it's not really something we need to go into here, and some may not agree with what I'd have to say about the whole "art" issue. From reading the comments, what there is fits with this game; this isn't going to turn into some hentai game.

Until I've played some more, I won't give it a thumbs up or down. I simply haven't seen enough to make a verdict. But I can tell already that this is not a game for everyone, and if you can't take a bit of adolescent humor in your gaming, take a pass on this one and wait and see what comes tomorrow.

btw, anyone looking for the shield, Right Click seems to be how to use it to block stuff.

To Belgian Dude
"Dude's" like you are, to use your words, a dime a dozen and every forum has, unfortunately, got dozens like you.
Apparently your ego even exceeds your capacity to write paragraphs of pap every weekend, rendered totally pointless by the fact you don't even download.
But "Raising standards"! Just how much more utterly pompous and self-opinionated can you get?
On second thoughts, don't answer that.
Like a few others, obviously, I'm thoroughly sick and tired of your continuous haranguing of every giveaway.
Why not write all your posts in Flemish? Or maybe just stop.
Either way, it'll mean the same to me.

Hi Teresa, comment #40. Sorry I forgot to answer your query earlier. I got side tracked by Belgian dudes comment. If you check my review @ comment #1 you'll see the keyboard bindings for the shield under block, though you can also use your right mouse button to use the shield. The shield isn't effective against the monsters that invade the village only the fireball from the ugly looking dragon. You can direct the fireballs that are being spat out just like the bat in a decent arkanoid game, though it does take practice in this game as the shield is rather small.

For those having difficulty controlling the game, try using a combination of keyboard and mouse; though with a little bit of practice it does become much easier. To be honest, it took me ages to win my first level because of the controls; but once I got used to them the game was very satisfying. I think it's such a shame that many seem to think it's not worth keeping.

'Cest la Vie'

I'm sure something will turn up over the next few weeks. I wonder if the team will be closing for the summer vacation soon like they did last August? I'll be away in just over two week’s time for a couple of weeks so, unless I spend some time in the hotels internet cafe, I wont be reviewing any till I get back.

Hey Belgian Dude,

Glad you think sites like Reflexive and Big Fish stock the decent games. Just check out the following. That is after being reminded of what you said earlier:

Quote

If someone is offering here a game that wouldn’t be amiss on sites such as Bigfish or Reflexive then it’s something that is worth the bother. Anything less then that is a waste of those that download it and shouldn’t warrant for anyone to risk their systems registry to be molested

http://www.reflexive.com/Troll.html

By the way, lots of the games that have been given away here you can find at Big Fish and or Reflexive. In fact the last one prior to todays was put up on Reflexive only a day or so before it was given away here at the Game giveaway project. (Puzzle Quest)

Oh yeah, and as for the last bit of your comment above, Troll is free standing. Check the registry yourself; there are only a few entries that pertain to the zip file and a few other unimportant keys.

By the way, your probably right on one thing – I am a little easy or tried to do. I’m considered reasonably intelligent, been a researcher, got a few degrees and other post graduate diploma’s, worked in education and the medical profession as well as a few less likely jobs such as motorcycle courier and soldier, etc, but I can’t for the life of me program. I abhor the way some people denigrate the work others take the time to do; everything has it's qualities.

This is a good game. Not a great game but just a good one. It only uses 10MB of disk space so that should not be a concern for most users. But what should concern you about the installation is first the unwanted and unasked desktop icon that it places. I don't want a desktop icon from a game. Please ask before you decide that I need an icon. Next is the desktop resolution. I know many games need to change the desktop resolution so their game will display better (mine is set to 1024x768). However most games have the decency to reset the resloution back the user's preference when they close. Your game does not do this. You can learn something here publisher. If this game is 3 years old as some have indicated you should have worked out that bug by now. Is it lack of effort or lack of carimg? Either way no one wants their desk top screwed up because of sloppy programming. We know you have offered us some really nice games here in the past. But just because you offer us games don't give you the right to alter user's desk top settings. I think you get the point. FIX the game. This is the greatest fault any game can have IMHO. I love to read the comments here. As many have stated the comments are the best part of this site. But it bothers me when some of my favorite commenters seem to have opposing opinions. Does that mean one is right and one is wrong? Not really. Everyone has an opinon. Only you can decide if you like this game. I think it is worth a try despite the faults. Thank you GGAOTD team and Rake In Grass.

I must really be missing something this morning. Brick buster? Arkanoid? Breakout? Taito game? Similar to Wrecker Ball Dream? I don't understand any of you...

If Stephen Whiterabbit really played this, he knows that this is not Arkanoid. Arkanoid consists of bricks, three walls, a ball and a player-controlled moving paddle at the bottom. EGYPTOID offered from several weeks ago is Arkanoid.

* Those falling scrolls aren't bonuses. Whenever I catch one I end up losing control of the character or being penalized. I wish there was an explanation of what these and the other falling objects are.

This game is awful. Thank you anyway GGAOTD for offering it today.

Thank you Rake in Grass and GGAOTD for today's game offering. While this offer is just not my type of game, thank you anyway - I am always greatful for the chance to try games that I have never played before.

For the record, I am not offened by the King's name or cartoon nudity - but, maybe the maker should add a 'note' in their game description for all the people who could be offended.

As always, thanks Stephen-WR for the great review, and for all the other comments.

@ Belgian Dude: Interesting to learn that you have "higher standards" although those presumably don't extend to your own behaviour. In your first post you claimed that the backgrounds were "clearly pilfered from the web." Unless you have proof of this, that's a libellous statement right there and you're making GOTD guilty of the same offence by posting it here. I guess we can safely assume that you're just a troll with nothing better to do than make yourself feel big by slagging people off here. Well at least I'll know better than to read any of your opinions again, being that you don't even take the trouble to download things you're criticizing.

@ Moderators: Someone really should remove that libellous claim, because you're opening yourself up to legal action.

Annnie @ #34:

Either that post is a spoof.

Or you should get out more.

It's a. . . g a m e.

As for "Nudity isn't art, never has been, never will be", I guess we've all been pretty much misled about Michelangelo.

The Biblical reality is, Adam was Mr Teapot and Eve was Mrs Teapot and all their descendants have been born with or without a spout.

The English used to cover their teapots with things called tea cozies but even they have moved on.

Boy that last comment was tuff hehe.

I played the first 2 levels and it was on the difficult side. It looked like a childrens type game but is to hard for a child to play. I liked the humor portions but it was just too simplistic for me to really enjoy. Now jets and guns was an incrdible game. This game was made by the same people?

I reluctantly give it a thumbs down since it fails to meet the needs of the intended audience. To simple for and adult or too difficult if meant for a child.

1. If a game looks and behaves as something that I have, or could have, programmed 20 years ago on an Amiga(probably even on a C-64) in BASIC then I'm not risking my system to go haywire because of some adolescent attempt in programming a game with each and every giveaway. That is true. Most of us don't have to taste green putrid eggs to know that they aren't a nice meal. Therefor, those of us with experience can judge the graphics and the animations just by seeing some screenshots. Considering it's not difficult to find additional screenshots of this offering makes it all the much easier to see the lack of quality in that department.

2 Most games on here are crapppy. It's a pity, it's sad but it's a fact. Most of the games that come on here, and this one is not different, you could just as well download from any site and play it without ever registering it. The reason being that you either will have play it out a couple of times over or will have grown tired, bored, disgusted or utterly annoyed with it before the 30 day grace period is even halfway over. In lots of cases you would even wonder what in heaven's name you were thinking of downloading it in the first place one you actual sit and try to play it for half an hour.

3 Tastes differ. There's no accounting for taste. To each his own... bla..bla..bla... never the less, if the advertising message is so far away from any kind of truth then it needs to be taken down a peg or two. You and me might have learnt not to believe what the maker states about his program but unfortunately there is indeed one born every second.

4 if the creator still asks for 14.95 USD after 3 years of the game being around he truly has a way to high an opinion about himself and his programming skills.

5 I know that Whiterabbit is a forgiving soul and does rarely ever think that a game is bad but I have to admit I have higher standards.
If someone is offering here a game that wouldn't be amiss on sites such as Bigfish or Reflexive then it's something that is worth the bother. Anything less then that is a waste of those that download it and shouldn't warrant for anyone to risk their systems registry to be molested

6 Games like these are the proverbial dime a dozen. As Robert McMains indicated, this kind of game was something that could be counted in the KB's instead of the MB's and still have the same look to it. Most likely it would even respond to the controls a lot better.

7 Bloat is bad. No matter if it's because a game of 1MB becomes 90 MB because the programmer can't figure out how not to use BMP's or because he wants to add 80 MB worth of techno music mp3's. It isn't a show of quality.

8 True there haven't been many games that I liked and not many more then that that I, although not my taste, I approved of. You might find it rude or ungratefull.... I just consider it public service to warn others and to try to get the standards higher. Perhaps then we can avoid ending up with giveaway games that are just one level above Pong or Frogger, and sometimes not even that.

I have to echo 13 & 14. I think this game would be immensely fun if there were better controls. Whiterabbit-I didn't see any shield. If there is a shield how do you employ it?

There is no tutorial. I know my mother would never figure out how to get into the actual game. I had to start clicking all over the map to see if I could get into anything. I stumbled on it by accident. Now I know that the castles with little crossed swords are the ones to click on.

Is there keyboard control for the Troll? Maybe that would control it better. Since there are no hints or tutorial, I don't know.

They also must have some bug in the keyboard because I couldn't get the keys to type out Tali on the Player 1 slot. It typed Tal! which is awesome for Goreans. Even their menus have screwed up titles with %!# in place of letters. Since I am not a programmer, I don't have an idea as to how or why this is or even if it is my own computer set up that is messing with the game.

I hope the techies for this game can read enough english to improve on this game so maybe at the next offering we can have fun playing this game. As it is now, I'm the one wanting to moon the game - as well as scream and throw the mouse as far as it's tail can let it fly.

For all who find any game's music annoying: just mute your computer. I keep mine muted 24/7 [don't want my husband to know what I'm wasting so much time on, don't want kiddos to come running in wanting to play, don't want music's tempo changing my heart rate, concentration, etc..., and finally, don't want to awake anyone when I decide to kill some time when my insomnia strikes.]
But don't try playing Dream Chronicles 2 this was, as the grammaphone part requires you hear the notes played to solve the puzzle quickly. Actually, don't even play Dream Chronicles 2... what a waste of time and $$$.

I don't think I'll bother to download this one, if there's even cartoon nudity then it's still nudity, and downloading it would mean I accept that and I don't, in no form. Nudity isn't art, never has been and never will be, no matter how many millions think so nor how many millons of dollars are spent to make it acceptable. Children should be reared to know this, not play asinine games that glorify this sort of thing. I like GOTD, have had many hours of fun playing the giveaway games but this isn't for me. Thanks for all the good ones, will look forward to next week.

At the risk of offending some ... "OMG" - Grow-up !
Serious lack of humor people... (or is that "halo-chaffe"?)
Difficult game to become skifull at without playing more than once or one level, for that matter.
Curious how this game plays on some "Vista" / "XP" and not others ...
Must be aimed to fail to some and not others ... LOL 8-)
Installed & played on my XP-2 without "issues" others seem to have.
Enjoy your weekend ... Monday isn't that far away.

Has a clever twist to it (you can lose either by losing the troll's health or the village's that he defends) this game seems to be like all those Flash animation games one can play free in a "cloud computing" environment, with a flat 2D look and so-so artwork. The humor and sound effects are straight from middle school. I give anyone credit for even trying to create and market a computer game in this era of massive multiplayer monstrosities, but I uninstalled this one after five minutes and can not imagine why anyone would pay money for it.

To quote #3 - "Poor king Uterus. ..... his name is a very personal part of a woman’s anatomy. The graphics are great. " LOL!!!

This played fine on Vista. I might have been able to stand the childish animation, in exchange for great game play. This however was not the case! The controls are just downright awful to this game. After 20 seconds of play, I remember why I didn't keep it last time! Thanks for the effort GAOTD! Here's hoping for Sundays to be something wonderful!

For those with negative comments, I just have to differ. The game is pretty fun. Quite a successful version, very innovative. Another good game from the publisher of Jets&Guns. They produce excellent games. In fact, these days I only play Jets&Guns. Thanks to GAOTD too, you guys have done it again. To all, download this game, you might like it, really!

I didn't have time to actually play a game yet, but when I opened the program, I was impressed with the graphics and the cool scary music!
