I forgot to add that The Sims lovers can not notice how similar the first music you hear is to the one in building/buy mode of the EA game :)

This game is very enjoyable. It installed easily and runs well, the graphics are nice and the play is sufficiently fast-paced to keep me interested. Well done.

Enjoy the game but perphaps remember there are differences between the American and English languagues, give a choice of version (American or English), or provide appropriate translation? (eg "birdie" = "shuttlecock").

Also why not an untimed version (relax mode), with a minimum necessary score per round, for people such as I who are handicapped - or people who are older - and cannot go so fast?

Computer games are very useful for those trying to recover from injuries of various kinds, or trying to acquire skills, so the more adaptable the better.

I wasn't even able to install this game. I tried downloading it twice and although on the second attempt it appeared to download a large file; when I unzipped it there was only the text file there, no setup.exe!

Sorry to hear that. you can get the game 24/7 from Gametop/ I've linked to it near the bottom of my review (see comment #1)

Margo (#10) has basically said it all, but yes I do love this game.

I enjoy HOGs, and this one I would describe as 'a hidden object game against the clock, with time management added on; plus puzzle minigames and a Careers-like "persona development" element which adds to your bonuses.'

And to Cas Schie (#13), I strongly suggest you get a copy of the excellent freeware program DesktopOK. This saves your desktop icon layout and lets you easily restore 'normality' after a forced screen resolution change imposed by a game or any other software. It's saved me a LOT of work over the years!

....................Moderator Comment.................

Thanks for your feed back Cad.

I should add a link to Desktop OK to the problems section. :)

For those who feel that their computers may be too old, condsidering the listed specs, I'd say those specs are WAY overstated and I'd download, anyway. This plays on my very old emergency machine: 400 Mhz CPU, 196 Meg Ram, 8 Meg Ram, as did it's sibling game 7 Wonders. Pointer moves just a little slow and slightly jerky, but not so much that it cost me much time. It somewhat taxes my virtual memory, but even on 256 RAM it ought to run reasonably.

As to the imperfect names of the items, I didn't really notice this much in the Garden Store, and, anyway, this is not uncommon for HOGs written by developers working in a foreign language. According to press releases I've seen on a couple of game sites, our friends from Funny Bear Studio are from Russia - which would certainly explain the company name. :) In fact, I find the translations in the backstory and instructions that I've seen so far to be natural, idiomatic English. Also, I didn't find the pictures in the garden store to be unclear, with the occassional exception, such as the lantern identified as a "candlestick".

My impression is that the Funny Bear Studio developers are clever, out of the box thinkers who put effort into their designs, their graphics, and their coding. There are two more of the World Riddles games. Maybe we'll get lucky. :) I know little about the game world, so am reluctant to talk about price, especially since we our blessed with the walking game encyclopedia, our good friend Whiterabbit, as moderator. However, the two games already given away seem like significant value for the money to me.

Thanks, Funny Bear and GGOTD.

.................................Moderator comment..........................

The Federal Trade Commission won’t have any jurisdiction because the giveaway project is a Russian project. As for the game being available in some places before others that's a load of twaddle. The game is released to all areas of the world at the same time. There is no way you can honestly say a game has been given a fair assessment when votes are coming in only minutes after the game was released. Those votes are based entirely on the users preferences and not on experience of the game, which is why it’s not a good indicator of whether a game is good or bad. That said, the longer you leave it, the more the vote does reflect the playability as I’m sure the majority of users do try and use the feature as it was intended.

Seem some like this game! Woild be nice if you fixed thumbs up and down rating system abocve! Some of us have dialup! When you have a big file of 81.20 mb, can take all day to download! Alot of thumbs dwn or thumbs up could be helpful if should download or not!

.......................Moderator comment...........................

Personally I wouldn't trust the thumbs up/down indicator. Some games will attract a lot of thumbs down despite being an excellent game just because they aren't your usual arcade fodder like TM games or HOG's. I’ve seem brilliant games get loads of thumbs down before the users could have actually played the games long enough to make an informed decision about the games. Some will give it a thumbs down because they don't like the genre, other because there's no shortcut or uninstaller installer, or that an extra shortcut is installed such as a link to the developers site. Then again I can appreciate that if you are on a slow dial up wasting several hours downloading a game you find you don't like will be annoying.

I would have thought the images and videos of gameplay would have given you a reasonable idea as to whether you'd like the game rather than have to rely on a system that has a skewed result?

Still, each to their own

i downloaded it
ran setup.exe only to find that it is just for software informer
where is the game installation?

........................Moderator comment.........................

Try downloading the zip file again. W.r.t. software informer, that can only be installed if you allowed it to be installed; though it is one of those situations where if you don't uncheck 'the' tick box you'll get software informer installed. It can easily be uninstalled tohugh.

It's not a bad application; it will inform you of updates to most of your installed programs. a useful way of discovering whether you need to update those programs you've previously purchased that have life-time upgrades available. I think it also does drivers as well.

My problem with the game: It is in english only. I am not really able to progress any further without learning all these new asian toys in the second shop in a painfully slow fashion.. so, the game got a thumbs down from me. I prefer to have it in german language!

Evening all, Snoozles here.

This is a time management game, with a few "subgames" built in.

The concept is great: a village shoppe. Yes, it truly is bright and colourful. The music and sounds are great. But... and it's a big but... the objects are NOT realistic at all.

It's a shame really because this is such a great concept and it's quite obvious that a lot of time went into developing it.

I also am critical of the way one moves from a fairly basic tutorial, then directly cast into level 50 or thereabouts. At least that is the way it seems to me.

Quite well I remember the Realore hotel-type games where level progression, and hence difficulty, progressed slowly and steadily. Not so here. This will especially be a problem for children who, after feeling quite intimidated, will give up and move along to something else.

My Scoring:
Installation - 3
Registration - 10
Graphic Appearance in Game – 1
Background and Colour - 8
Audio – 9
Game Play – 2
Replay Ability – 7
Originality – 9

Total 6 out of 10
Thumbs up since it is 5+/10, but voting seems disabled today (?!?!?)

DEVELOPER IMPROVEMENTS REQUIRED:
1) Replace most objects with realistic objects. Some objects are fine as they are... I liked the seed stand.
2) Develop a gradual level progression. If possible, allow users to have some input into how fast the levels progress.
3) Improve the installation process such that all files end up in a default path like C:/program files/games/company name/game name+version number
4) Please also include a desktop shortcut!!!

I suggest to the developer that they base item graphics from real photography (photo realistic). Otherwise, it is too confusing and one tends to get stuck whilst time RUNS OUT and the hearts break :>

Thanks to WhiterabbitUK, GGOTD, posters to the forum and especially Funny Bear Studios. I sincerely hope to can improve on this great idea. Cheers.

p.s. I like the graphics...and it runs really well on Win7. music isn't so-so bad...i just turn it down in the options... hate going through the motions of entering other tunes. developers mixed it up a bit by NOT placing objects in the same position as last level. took me a level or 2 to get used to it.. but it makes for better game play, IMO. most games i get here i complete within 24 hrs of dwld.... i won't with this one. great time killer and pretty to-boot!

While I am not a big fan of time management games, this one isn't too bad; adding the hidden object aspect to it makes it more interesting. I would like a couple seconds to look around the shop before having to help the shoppers. Also, get rid of some of the steps required to exit these games, then I could spend more time playing instead of having to close earlier than I like before going somewhere.

#13: "I hate those programs, mostly games, that run unasked fullscreen and after closing leave your desktop with all windows ‘brushed’ into a corner."

I **Think** it's more a function of the graphics driver jumping into another mode -- as Whiterabbit mentioned 7 handles that sort of thing more gracefully. With other kinds of software a VM might be an alternative, but games don't usually like VMs because of no real D3D. You might find that you can switch to the screen rez a game uses yourself without having everything re-arranged, & if that's the case, some utilities I think can do that switching fast & easy for you [it's built-in to ATIs Control Center]. Maybe a multiple desktop app would work as well? Switch to a desktop without anything you care about, play whatever game(s), then when you're done switch back?

Most game giveaways are free standing which means to uninstall you just delete the installed game. There are no, or very few registry entries nor folders installed elsewhere (such as in the Programs list or My Documents.

Very good game. My only comment is that it is too easy to cheat: if you press pause, you get a fairly small dialogue box in the centre of the screen, which only blocks out a few items, so you can easily study the screen to find the objects without it costing you any time, so you get a top award every time. Personally, if there's an easy cheat I find it very hard not to use it, why make your life harder? Funny Bear should completely grey/black out the background when paused. Other than that, great game which holds the interest. Vast improvement on yesterday's offering.

Must be something 'funny' with the programming of the game:
It does not run sandboxed!

And btw: I hate those programs, mostly games, that run unasked fullscreen and after closing leave your desktop with all windows 'brushed' into a corner.

..............................Moderator comment.........................

Yeah so do I, though for me this game doesn't do that. since installing win 7 ultimate 64 bit I've rarely seen the problem, wheras when i used to use XP it happened frequently. what OS are you using?

Nicole's Story is from Funny Bear Studios, the same company that gave us World Riddles 2 weeks ago.
Nicole's Story is entirely different in concept though, one has to search for objects which are placed around the shop and do it rather fast because the customers are waiting. Rather fun.
Installed ok (Vista), default install dir = c\Games, which can be changed in the set up but remember where you put the game because a shortcut is not provided so you'll have to do this yourself.

It's a combination of a seek-and-find and a time management game. You have to find certain things for customers before they become upset.

Personally I'm not a fan of any game that has time limits. I quit playing after the first level. This game could get to be repetitive as you find yourself looking for the same things over and over.

I own this game, having bought it from Big Fish last year. I think it's a wonderful game and well worth a download. It's a classic hidden object game with a few minigames. There is a story, but it doesn't get in the way of gameplay.

Basically, you will be "working" in different shops. Customers come in and request items which you then find on the shelves. Serve the customers quickly and they leave happy. Serve the VIPs first and they give you a gift (usually an extra hint or the like). Each shop has, i believe, 6 levels. The shops get progressively harder. It is actually challenging to get a perfect or expert score.

Some have complained that the game is too hard because you have to find things very quickly or the customers lose hearts. But as a Big Fish forum poster (not I) rightly said, "It's called "Time To Hurry", not "Time to Sit Around, Lollygag and Watch the Paint Dry". :D There are many hidden object games with a relaxed pace. This is not one of them!

Anyway, just wanted to post because I love this game. It's very refreshing to find an old-school hidden object game. No clock fixing, fragmented objects or door opening puzzles and no going back and forth and back between locations. Just straight HO gameplay. In fact, I'm going to replay it this morning. Thanks for the inspiration, GGotD!

You can go to the Big Fish forums to see more comments and reviews... http://forums.bigfishgames.com/forums/show/2028.page

hi terri, I wasn't able to access the admin panel until nearly six hours after the giveaway started, which is why my review (well basically a review copied from Gamezebo which i decided to post instead of my work becasue I was having trouble putting together the several pages of notes I'd taken while playing this game earlier. I'm a little distracted at the moment playing a brilliant game called Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, a game I've been waiting for a few years to be released. :)

Thanks GGOTD and Funny Bear Studio.
A good, not over-taxing, game for just about anyone.

Both the 7 wonders (I'm VERY hooked on this, attempting to get through every level as an expert), and Time to Hurry, have excellent, well detailed tutorials which act as a sort of prologue. The gameplay itself is made to suit. A neat trick, well executed.

There is a choice of playing to succeed and get through each level, or winning as an expert with a gold star. This makes for different levels of competitiveness, so can suit kids as well as adults, giving the option as to how seriously you might want to play the game.

Funny Bear are to be commended for the thought and detail that has gone into their games, and I would recommend (and buy) them on what I've seen with Nicole's Story and 7 Wonders.

Thanks to Funny Bear Studio and GGotD for today's great giveaway, I've been meaning to try this game for a while, too many games and too little time.

For GGotD, have you considered putting in a button so we can post these giveaways to our Facebook or Twitter accounts to get you more users (I already have the GoTD app running on Facebook)? The ticker is great for those with their own websites or blogs but there is no easy way for the rest of us to share with our friends (and I have over 1000 gaming friends on Facebook, many of whom would likely be interested in this site).

Maybe a good game to those under 7..

- Do there ever come an real FPS shooter as giveaway here?

...........................Moderator comment.....................

The game giveaway gives away arcade games. If they were to give an FPS game away the size of the download would cause the giveaway servers to grind to a halt. At any one time (on average) there's a new user downloading a game from this site every 5 - 20 seconds. If we were to get a FPs game, all of which are going to be well over a couple of Gigabytes minimum, the bandwidth that the giveaway servers have would very quickly be swallowed up. On average, depending on the game, anything from 4000 to over 16 thousand downloads are made from this site every time a game is given away.

We do sometimes link to free FPs games over in the game discussion forums. There have been some excellent FPS freebies over the past three years including Hidden & Dangrous, Full Spectrum Warrior and some modded Doom games. The first and the last onea are still available for free. There are also several excellent RTS games and space shooters available. We've posted details of a couple of thousand freeware and abandonware games in the games discussion forums.

Sorry for the late moderation. I've not been able to access te admin panel all morning:

Developers rely on good feedback to improve their games. If you download this game please take some time once you’ve played it a while to leave some constructive feedback either positive or negative. The more constructive feedback we get, the more likely developers are going to give more games away. The giveaway site already has a very good standing with the search engines. Developers want their products out there on the WWW, this site has the potential to do that. The game giveaway project gives away on average between 9 to 17 thousand downloads for each game depending upon what genre and how obscure the game is. That’s a lot of homes these games are being downloaded into and a lot of ‘potential’ cash that’s being lost by the developers. If we get better games because of better feedback, the community are likely to continue to benefit from the generosity of the developers. Satisfied community members are then more likely to visit the home sites of those developers and purchase games that they may not have bothered with before they discovered the developer via the game giveaway site, thus giving the developers more incentives to give away even more decent games.

Please leave some feedback once you’ve checked the game out. It can be positive or negative, but please explain what your reasons were for the feedback you post. You could also leave suggestions for improving the game, for example, this game could do with more block types for the levels editor, add more power-ups, describing the ones you think would be suitable, add some mini games (which seem all the rage in some arcade games now) or enable the user to be able to change the in game music easily.

Thank you in advance to all those who take the time to post a constructive comment.

Regards

Whiterabbit aka Stephen

Problems installing, activating and running today’s game:

If you have difficulty downloading or activating the game you can try again later or do one of the following – for example once downloaded when you click on the dual activation and set up file you may get the message “Failed to connect. Please try again later” Check to see if your internet explorer isn’t offline (thanks to MrSnoozles/Mike and GMMan for that fix). If the previous suggestion doesn’t work go check out previous comments from the last several weeks and look for comments from GMMan and Mike. They have also posted their possible fixes for this problem.

Mike suggests that you check to see if Internet Explorer is offline (even if you use Firefox). If it is make sure that it’s online then try again. I’ve always tried re-booting my modem and/or router with some success, though Mike has said that doing that does nothing. Still, it’s worth a try if all else fails.

If you are getting the black screen problem right click on the games executable and select properties then click on the compatibility mode and select the disable visual themes. This should fix the problem, if not try disabling the display scaling on higher dpi settings and disabling the desktop composition.

Other fixes include changing your screen resolution, installing the latest direct X (remember that XP uses DX 9 or earlier only, Vista uses DX 10 or before and Win 7 DX11 or before). Also try updating your graphics drivers. The main two chip manufacturers are NVIDIA and ATI both of which offer driver downloads for free. Just go to the respective manufactures home page and you’ll find a link to the driver download page. To find out which graphic card or graphics chip your computer uses type in Dxdiag in the search field (Vista or Win 7) or the run command (XP); this opens up the DirectX diagnostics panel. click on the display tab and look to the left panel. You should easily see what graphics card or chip you are using. (This is required information when selecting the correct download from the developers site).

Time to Hurry: Nicole's Story:

Installation:

Time to Hurry: Nicole's Story downloads to an 81.1MB zip file that unpacks to a read me that details the terms and conditions and a dual set up and activation module. To those that are new to the giveaway project that means once the game has been installed it automatically registers the game so there’s no registration code required. The game instals to the following path:

C:\Program files (x86)\Town Shops\exe\en\Town Shops.exe

or

C:\Games\Town Shops\exe\en\Town Shops.exe

There is no shortcut installed so you need to make a note of where it’s installed to so that you can create your own. The game works on XP, Vista and Win 7.

The Game:

Time to Hurry: Nicole’s Story takes a page from games like Shop-n-Spree to mix hidden object and time management genres in a way that is simple enough for all skill levels, but also offers a real level of challenge for those looking for one.

The story follows Nicole, a college graduate who has spent a year at a job that she thought she would love, but leaves her feeling unfulfilled. When she learns that her grandmother’s gardening store will be sold due to lost funds, she quits her job, flies home and takes on the task of single-handedly resorting the family business to its former glory.

Gameplay is level-based, and sees you serving customers as they walk into the store. Customers are presented along the left side of the screen, with all of the objects that a customer could potentially ask to purchase being presented in a cluttered hidden object scene that takes up the rest of the screen. Each customer has a list of two or three objects that they’d like to purchase, and you must find and click on them in the store.

While that easily explains the hidden object portion, the time management aspect is tackled in a few ways. First and foremost, customers have a series of “patience” hearts associated with them. The longer they wait to be served, the more hearts they lose over time, and if they lose all three of their hearts before you can find all of their wanted items, they will leave the store unsatisfied. Once a customer leaves, another takes its place, and so on, until you have met the quota of customers for that level.

You’ll spend eight levels helping your Grandmother restore her shop, at which point you’ll be asked to move to another store and help one of your grandmother’s friends do the same. This continues until you have unlocked all six stores that are available in the game, like an Antique Store or Japanese gifts store.

To keep the variety and challenge high, the locations of objects in each store change every level. Each time you start at a new store, you are presented with just a portion of the items that will eventually become available, as the selection increases on subsequent levels until the store’s shelves, and even the floor are literally packed with dozens of items.

In this is where the game hits its one major flaw, with that being some of the oddly named objects. When seeing the words “glass handle” on a customer’s wishlist, for instance, you would likely look for a clear glass handle, on the door of a cabinet or drawer. It would be highly unlikely that you would look for a blue beer flask, which is actually what the “glass handle” here equates to.

Luckily, you can use hints that allow you to instantly find one item on the current customer’s shopping list, and after you’ve learned what phrases or terms go with which items, the issue dissipates, which is true for the overall challenge in the game as well, as you’ll become more and more comfortable with the shop’s layout, and where items are normally placed as you go along.

The money you earn in each level can be spent in between levels in a fairly interesting way. Rather than upgrading your shops, you’re allowed to upgrade Nicole herself in four areas: Fitness, Career, Personal, and Outlook. Since Nicole was so unsatisfied at her former job, you’re now allowed to purchase items to help her open her mind and heart to new activities, take new classes, meet new friends, and overall become a more well-rounded and happy individual. This helps you in gameplay as well, as your Fitness level allows you to hold more bonus power-ups (like the hints I mentioned, and those that restore customer patience), and your Career level simply slows the overall diminishing of customer patience.

There are also a few basic puzzle levels that appear during the game’s progression. These come in the form of jigsaw puzzles, tile sliding puzzles, spot the difference and so on. The gameplay doesn’t suffer for their inclusion, but they do feel unnecessary.

All told, Time to Hurry: Nicole’s Story takes a road less travelled approach to the hidden object genre. While the gameplay does become repetitive over time, the simple fact that the store items change places keeps you on your toes in a way that most other games simply can’t provide. Time to Hurry: Nicole’s Story is a frenzied, yet definitely entertaining experience that is perfect for those looking for a little something a little different.

I was too busy last night to consolidate the 8 pages of A5 notes that I’d taken on the game. To be honest, the game has several aspects to it that would have taken me the whole day to write up in a logical order and succinctly so decided to post a copy of Gamezebo’s review which you can find HERE

Conclusion:

The game looks like a typical time management game with some basic Hidden Object s sprinkled in to give the game a little zest. Everything's bright and colourful, though I would say it would be nice if you could connect to your media player for the music directly through the game rather than having to turn it off via the options menu.

The game has enough variety and the HOG simple enough not to het too stressed when completing the time management parts of the game. Theirs is a wide variety of mini games that complement the game as well loads of tasks to complete that are linked to the rest of the game because to complete the tasks you need to earn cash from the other parts of the game to be able to carry out those tasks.

Overall, (even though I don’t particularly enjoy TM games) I actually enjoyed playing this game while preparing the notes for the review (took me over four hours), and just for game play it’s well worth a good 8 out of 10, though when I take into account other factors this reduces to 6.5.

Scoring:

Game play – 8
Graphics – 6.5
Audio – 5
Re-playability – 6
Originality – 7

Total out of 10 = 6.5

Today’s game giveaway is available at some free games sites for example Gametop and the one I’m no longer mentioning due to it’s practice of adding toolbars without permission. Lol:
