with the old format, at 11pm I could have download & been playing the game by now a half hour later but Im giving up on this wait. ridiculous! miss whiteRabbit & honestly cant imagine why he's been locked out when he was the reason so many were pulled into this site to begin with! just crazy! and if I start getting spam in my emails, expect to be blocked cuz Im not here for that. I've advertised & shared this site with so many of my friends but refuse to share on fb something I cant play & review first. how can you take something that worked so well & smash it to oblivion? look at all those comments! how long do you plan to keep doing it your way or change it back to OURS, your consumers!?

It is too bad most people hate this new format. Frankly GGOTD does not give a damn what you like or don't like. They will cram this thing down our throats no matter what people think.

Been annoyed by the new format with the daily GAOTD for awhile now, but now this too? Sad. It really is horrible. Besides the hard to read format, the posts are hard to read too because they are new to old, should be the other way around.
I guess I too will get games elsewhere... progress is not always a good thing.

Comments on The Spell: I tried to do this hours ago, but I don't think it worked. There is some kind of "Informer" page you go to to leave feedback, enter info, click the button, and everything disappears. I have no idea what other people left as feedback for the game, or if mine got entered. I truly valued seeing the feedback specific to the game manufacturer. It would appear that aspect of GGOTD is gone also.

While this isn't my preferred sort of game, I like them from time to time, so gave it a shot.

First out, installed fine and runs on Win10

The graphics are good on it the same with the play, though a tad standard for these. Overall, I do like it and it gets a thumbs up from me. HOWEVER, there are some issues…

First, it won't go full screen on mine, leaving about a quarter on the right side blank. This is rather annoying and distracting.

Second, it likes to freeze slightly. Not my system as everything is running fine.

Third, I HATE HIDDEN OBJECT GAMES! I don't like them even as minigames. I don't see well enough to enjoy these and find them just an irritant. Nor can you skip them. I just end up clicking around and waiting for hints. It rather distracts from the fun.

Fourth, the game play—when you hit something, it flashes and whatever for too long, slowing you down. This is very annoying. It needs a smoother game play as well.

While I like the game, I am too irked with what I mentioned to really enjoy it too much.

Thanks for another giveaway!

On another note—I HATE what they've done to the site. I refuse to help you when you screw something up this badly by sharing it on FB. It sucks. Finding anything on this mess is a nightmare and even something so simple as looking for the comments sucks. I will do the email as mine I use for this is a web based that I don't mind as it doesn't get anything important. No thank you. I've stopped using the main giveaway site for these same reasons and it looks like this one will go the same way.

PS-- I will add if they start editing reviews like they did on the main site and removing parts like they did mine on the other site, I'm completely done with it. You want to screw with something this badly, we can have our say. Do not mess with our reviews! You want them? Take the heat (Yes, they did this, editing out all mentions of the site when they rolled it out to me and others).

Not happy with the bright template.

Had to double check the URL when the FB pop up came.

I've created a game account on FB some years ago. I never post there and never use the account, except to get to clicks I want, using a fake ID. I'm sad that GGOTD has gone in this direction but disposable email accounts and fake IDs on FB are the unhappy consequence of changes like this.

This isn't about WB. I am so pleased that the free downloads can continue regardless.

The format is too bright. Hurts the eyes. It's terrible, awful..I just can't.... I knew this was coming because of the other site....It was just a matter of time. But I still wasn't ready for it. I already can't post in the forum unless I get a mod to release my comment so I guess I won't be posting here now either. I hate it.

As far as Facebook. It won't bother me to share as I have no friends on it..just companies that do things like this. So ALL I do is share it to the companies...like they care. I stopped using Face book over 9 years ago because they kept changing their sharing policies.

But you know what? I think I will get my games from other sites. Not worth the hassle. I will check in for a bit to see if things change but without "That Wrascally Wabbit's" review I don't see a point. I have been coming here from the beginning..December 2006..back in the hey days of a real game EVERY DAY.

Hugs to the long eared furry one. I got your email. :) so we can still stay in touch.

Change is supposed to be good....There is nothing good about this.

I agree that it is too bright....if you will use a browser like FireFox or Chrome you can install extensions that will darken down any web site....I have multiple extensions running simultaneously that automatically change all web sites I use to dark colors.

Hi, for FireFox there are a bunch of extensions that will do the job but the ones I use are "Color That Site" which allows you to use a control panel to adjust the colors and intensities for each web site you use...once you have it set, you hit "save", then each time you visit that site those settings take effect............The other one is called "Stylish" which works differently...after you install it there will be an icon at the bottom of Fox, and as you visit each web site you left click the icon and click " Find Styles For This Site"....that will take you to another site that has a long list of different looks or styles that you can apply to the web site in question, then after you install that style, it will be automatically applied each time you visit that site....it's good for big popular sites that everyone knows and then you can use the first extension for smaller sites that aren't listed on "Stylish"........and last, there is "Color Toggle"....it's not automatic like the first two but works in full manual mode...it installs a button marked "CT" and then you select a default color background for web pages (I use black) and so whenever you click the "CT" button it changes the page to that color...this one is good for when you visit a site that you haven't already set up with either of the other two extensions............I stopped using chrome a while back but they have pretty much the same extensions as Fox but they might have a different name, any way....good luck.

WhiteRabbit thank you for all the work you put into your reviews.
I had already stopped after many years using GAOTD after many years due to the changes and now will stop using GGAOTD too.
I don't want to be sharing on FB before I have tried something, occasionally I have of my own free will after trying something but I do not respond to blackmail. Nor do I want to be sharing my email each time either.
I thank the team for all they have done for the last few years I have been coming here, but add my condolences to those who are now watching the site die. Bad decisions made for commercial reasons can kill a site and just like Friends Reunited was thought to big to die so now will this one. It is a shame.

Couldn't get her until late today and, let me tell you, this site is just the icing on the cake for the day I've had. You've turned the site into a junk site. White Rabbit's reviews was the first thing I read about the game when i came to this site. His input was invaluable and trustworthy! That's not available. Now, I'm expected to share a link for a game I've never tried and no little about before I can get the game? I think not! Nor am I going to provide an email addy just so you can gather info on me to send spam as a way to get a game either. There was nothing wrong with the way the site worked before, but you've turned it into garbage. Like others here, I'm not going to be downloading games like this so you're losing another customer. While you're trying to game more customers by requiring a sharing of info that we don't really have, all you've accomplished is getting rid of loyal customers. The whole thing is shameful.

Finally got the link & downloaded the game.

You want advice for the developers, here it is - learn that tiles need to be movable while others fall. Making me wait to swap the next set while a bunch fall down is not only annoying, it's a deal breaker for me.
The game is just generally slow. There doesn't appear to be a way to skip dialogue without skipping it all. I just want to be able to move through it faster but this game won't.
It just looks like someone took parts of other games and mashed them together. The story is ridiculous and the language issues are appalling. Hire a native English speaker, for heaven's sake.

Sorry. Rant over.

Oh, and Facebook, and the new way to get these games, sucks!

Guess I'll be getting my games elsewhere like the rest of the posters here. Too bad, really. It was great while it lasted.

Oh, and count me in with those thanking Whiterabbit for all the work. Among other things, it was great to see so much info about a game before wasting my time downloading. I really missed that today.

Okay you complainers - you don't need a facebook account. You can send the download link to your email which I did (but I also have a Facebook account and have no problem to delete the post or remark it as private when I would do this process).

What I sure hope is that Whiterabbit is still the moderator and helper here.

Now on to the game:
Download and installation without a problem.
The graphics are awesome and I love the mystery story line - perfect match 3 game for distraction.
Thanks a lot for this one.

I simply don't get it. Unless GOTD is planning to ditch giving away free PC software as their main feature, then what is the point of this (awful) new site design which is clearly designed for mobile devices?

GOTD's treatment of Whiterabbit also looks very shoddy. Only two days' notice of the changes, and an effective lockout as moderator - that's inexcusable.

I am also dismayed to see today's giveaway getting voted down. Everyone's anger is understandable but Immanitas are blameless here, and they've given us another good game. A well made HOG/match 3 with a spooky theme - a playable and pleasant distraction from the woes of the world. Thanks as ever to Immanitas.

Thanks always to our esteemed friend Stephen aka Whiterabbit. Without his thoughtfully crafted reviews, this site will be a hollow shell of what it was before.

If the game is getting voted down, it is probably because without WR's reviews, AND the input of others who were willing to try out games just to provide feedback (before the data mining disaster, in which case, most of those game masters will never be back,) it is extremely difficult to get a handle on what happens in this game, and the loss of privacy is clearly not worth the risk.

Hi, I did exactly that and for the first time ever, as I either give Games thumbs up, or politely don't mark them down. But today I gave my thumbs down not for the Game, but for this GIVEAWAY - in such form, without Stephen's Review and Hosting, and gave Immanitas the exact reason why.

I'm just not going to do this. It's not merely cumbersome, it's obnoxious. IF it were actually functional, and IF they were being very clear about how one's email would be used, then maybe. But this is very abrupt, and obviously not well thought out at all -- example, WR can't log in; example, no lead-up or PR on the site before the change.

I could use my spamtrap address, but it sounds from what others say that it's still kind of iffy.

GGotD folks, I have bought many games over the last few years prompted by a game given away here. I think this has been good advertising for developers, particularly the startups. If you make the hurdles too high and the hoops too small, though, people will not use GGotD to check out these developers and their other products. Please re-think this.

Thank you once more, Stephen WR, for all you do and have done. I hope this thing works out (and if not, I guess it might free up your weekends a bit).

And, community: everyone remember that there are practically always super sales and low-cost newly developed games at sites like Steam and the indie game sites. There are ways to get our fix without selling our souls to Facebook or cavalcades of spam.

I'll check back for a while to see what changes -- the crap layout and background, for starters -- and what becomes of our game mentor Whiterabbit. Until I see if GGotD is responsive to feedback, which they certainly have here today in cartloads.

FYI, used the method suggested in FreeEmail's post. Got the link instantly. Maybe I was just here at the right time of the day. And won't be any spam worries. Game downloaded quickly.

Tutorial seems a little rushed. The owl was going to give me a "superpower", but I had to figure out the exploding pumpkins by myself. Or maybe I accidentally hit a key that caused me to skip the explanation. Music is standard/appropriate, but could get mundane. That usually doesn't bother me. Saw an example of the translation issue. A "vinyl" was a vinyl LP recording. The odd items to match gave me an odd detached feeling that dampened my excitement in one way, but increased my anxiety in another. I only played 3 levels though, and time was more than adequate, so will have to gauge challenge later. Btw, this is not a click drag type, but a click on the item and then click on the adjoining block you want to move it to to create the match. Or you can click, drag into your destination block, and then release, and the piece will then move.

Looks like a keeper. Thanks GGOTD.

I was dreading but expecting that the 'new' GOTD design would also be applied to GGOTD.

In the good old days when webmasters and web designers still had half a brain they offered a site layout for desktop users with regular size monitors and when mobile devices became more popular they in addition offered a design specifically intended for use on smaller screens and less heavy on data usage for mobile internet access. Often this was on a separate sub domain like m.webaddress.com versus webaddress.com. But then they read that more and more page visits were made using mobile devices and suddenly every site desperately wanted to be seen to be with the times and modern and they changed their default design exclusively towards mobile devices with small screens and they started to design those horrible HORRIBLE and very UGLY sites with very low information density and an abysmal user experience on full size monitors.

A few large sites that were typically visited from mobile devices started it and then everyone blindly followed the herd and so now we are plagued by these utterly dysfunctional web sites because maintaining two designs apparently is WAY too much trouble so let's pretend that the whole world only uses smartphones to browse the web then we can be lazy and only make simple empty horrible ugly mobile layouts.

The unbelievable stupidity is that both GOTD and GGOTD are sites that offer software intended TO RUN ON PC's OPERATING ON WINDOWS!!!!! But hey. Let's make the site design exclusively for mobile devices running Android and iOS.

Yeah. There are Android and iOS GOTD sub-sites too now and there such a mobile layout makes sense. As a result people visiting those sites will also take a peek at the PC software sites BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN THAT THIS INCREASED NUMBER OF VISITS FROM MOBILE DEVICES THERE SHOULD WARRANT THE TRANSITION FROM DESKTOP LAYOUT TO MOBILE LAYOUT!!!!!

NOT on sites that offer PC/Windows software. Get it now do you (G)GOTD people?

This change to mobile site design was a bad idea and that WILL NOT change. It won't become a good idea with the passage of time so please get rid of this truly horrible design ASAP.

Bravo and thank You Ben!! True to the last letter! BTW - do we yet have a word to describe designers following this unfair trend to which GOTD and now GGOTD are cosying up to - leaving (once perfectly useful) PC users behind? No? How about ANTI-DESKTOPISTS, eh? Watch out, it may one day be a cyber offense!? Please note, I too have my fb and smart phone like millions of others, but it is I who DECIDE what for and how to use them!

Oh, one more thing. If I don't like a title I'm free to delete the share? Ethically, I wouldn't post a share for something I hadn't tested. Not just post a share to get something then take it back later, after I tested it? ???????????? Not sure that's a good idea, GGOTD

I actually like the "look" of the new website design. However, I won't be using my Facebook account to download, nor will I be opening myself up to more spam by giving them access to my email address. I don't subscribe for that reason - I just come here every weekend just in case there is something good. Yes, I like free games and stuff, but I already have just under 1/2 of my screen devoted to advertisements at this web page. That's enough. But the real deal breaker for me is that White Rabbit/Stephen is gone. His carefully composed comments with screenshots always gave me a great sense of a game and whether I wanted to download or not. Nope... no White Rabbit, no more downloads or visits from me. Too bad.

To those unwilling to give out their email address to get the download link: I've gotten the email newsletters from this site since near the beginning (circa 2007) and not once gotten spam from that. I have gotten notice of some great games though, which I'd have missed downloading if not for the emails. I did not, however, receive the download link for The Spell. Strangely enough, my husband did get that email, and shared his link with me.

The Spell apparently has issues with either Win 7 Professional or my specific computer. The game would install and run - up to the point where you're supposed to name your character. It would not take the character name or do anything beyond that point; not even properly exit the game. So I tried to install The Spell on another computer, which runs Win 7 Home Premium but has issues connecting to the registration server. The game looks good enough that I really wanted to try it... so tried installing on my laptop, where I finally got it to work. My laptop, is a few years older than the Win 7 Pro desktop machine and has Win 7 Home Premium on it. I don't enjoy jumping through these hoops and won't do so for every game offered.

In all, I agree with most of the negative comments about the new site layout. I have more issues with this site than this game, and more issues with this game than with many past games I downloaded. Not looking good, Game Giveaway of the Day.

NOTE: Be aware the poor thumbs down score today is not a reflection of this game... but more a reflection on GAOTD due to the changes made in its format and the requirement to use Facebook or submit an email address. Like others I have been a loyal GAOTD user for many years but it all ends today. Like others leaving comments, I refuse to use Facebook or submit my email with the potential of opening my email inbox to even more spam than I already receive. Unfortunately, we non-Facebook folks are the minority. Facebook now has over 1.2 billion active users worldwide. We FB haters could list all the privacy issues and exposure concerns when agreeing to the terms and conditions by signing up for Facebook... but it would be a waste of time. After all... the Federal Trade Commission has filed its share of lawsuits and/or complaints with Facebook over privacy concerns for many years
and it has done little to stem the tide of new users that continue to sign up everyday.

Within a month or so... all the negative comments regarding GAOTH and the changes made and the Facebook requirements will fade away. The new user community associated with this site will be made up of happy Facebook users who won't think twice about linking or sharing this site with friends. Although tough to admit, in the end, GAOTD will benefit more from the "new members" introduced to this site via Facebook... than any impact we few diehard anti Facebook members could present by pulling the plug.

p.s. A big thanks of appreciation and respect to Stephen (White Rabbit) for his moderation of this site over the years. Like Stephen, I once moderated a well known web site for several years. What many people fail to realize is moderation takes many many hours of your time and the impact it has on your private life. Complicating the issue, moderators are not paid for their time or efforts! As a result spouses, family, friends etc wonder why we do it at all. But for people like Stephen and me... it's all about the camaraderie and community. For the personal satisfaction in a job well done. For the "regulars" in the community we eventually consider as online friends. And its about the many thanks we receive from users for our dedication to the site. When the site I moderated was bought out (taken over) and redesigned... I decided to take my life back and resigned as moderator. What a relief. It was refreshing on weekends to enjoy my coffee and the extra time with my family... instead of getting up and rushing to the computer so I could write the latest cell phone review, or edit out the offensive comments or respond to comments from disgruntled members etc. etc. Thanks again Stephen, you've been a shinning example and credit to moderators everywhere. I will miss you and the GAOTD community.

The new page is pleasant enough, but since I refuse to use facebook, having to enter an email everytime I want to download a game is a big pain and definitely not an improvement.

Gonna pass today without WhiteRabbit's screenshots. Three is not enough to tell what the game is like.

Also, how can the system requirements be a 150 MB hard drive when the file size is 329 MB?

It's occupying 350MB on my drive.

I have absolutely no use for Facebook and without White Rabbit I have no use a all for this website and format. I will check a couple more times and if nothing changes back, I'm out of here. I still know where to look for these games besides this site. Add my agreement with all of the other comments relating to these changes. Adios!

I looked for reviews on Bigfish and Gamehouse, and found what I hope is useful information. Tthe name of the publisher is Playzzy Games (new to me), and the release date was 3/17/14. They are a young company in the Ukraine that develops casual Hidden Object games, Match 3 and F2P games. The system requirements for The Spell are: Windows 7 / XP / 8 / 10; 800 MHz Pentium 4 or equivalent; 512 MB Ram; DirectX 9.0. Those sites say the hard drive space required is 204 MB, but I found that it occupies about 350MB on my drive 5. The reviewers on those 2 sites gave this game 3 and almost 4 stars out of 5. There is only one youtube video for The Spell that I could find, and you can view it if you search youtube for "THSCRmUK1yo" .

I hope this will help until Whiterabbit can return with his usual reviews and details. (Really miss you, WR!) I don't see where to search this site to see if the game was ever given away before, but I'm guessing it was not because the release date is only about 2 years ago. I find the pace a bit slow for the first few levels, but the mix of Match 3 and HOG make a pleasant way to pass the time or play for short periods. I think it would become tedious if I played longer.

Thanks Buster. But you sure there were reviews on Big Fish? I couldn't find the game at all. Sure you didn't confuse it for Love Chronicles: The Spell, maybe? Only 5 reviews on GameHouse, and no real consensus, but 4 stars from 80 reviews on Wild Tangent, so may be worth a try if you can stand no relaxed mode. I can.

I tried to leave feedback via the email address giveaway at giveawayoftheday dot com, but it returned back as failure. I really do hope that the webadmin reads these criticisms of the new web design.

GAME SUGGESTIONS:
1. Speed up game play (very sluggish on Win7).
2. Add a RELAXED mode (although even that would not help me since levels are getting way too long... 13+ minutes to failure).
3. Shorter levels if it is not possible to continue if a level failed in timed mode.

I second, third, etc. all the negative comments about the GGOTD site changes! MISS YOU, WHITERABBIT!

1. The comments should be earliest at the top, not the bottom - we're reading them in reverse.
2. The comments are no longer numbered - awkward if there are lots of posts.
3. The new layout doesn't look very good - it certainly doesn't seem popular.
4. The whole game giveaway project has made changes for the worse, for no apparent reason other than to keep up with the times. - I suspect it hasn't gained many new followers, but has possibly lost some.
5. Too much scrolling is now required.
6. As has been mentioned - Facebook, emails, too bright, etc etc.
Have I missed anything?

I'm not sure about others - but I would be more than happy to pay a small subscription fee to use ggotd and/or gotd, maybe a £10 one off payment (permanent licence), if it meant it could revert to the apparently successful site it was before today. Even if there are not all that many games I like. I'd be content to take the gamble.
In other words, I'd rather pay a little than put up with what ggotd has become.

Are there ANY positive comments?
If not, the site owners really ought to consider what's been written in the negative ones.

I miss having an untimed option in The Spell. The funny thing is, I made it through the levels in plenty of time :-). This encouraged me to continue the game. I like the power pumpkin. It was a nice strategic addition to the game.

I enjoyed the hidden object game. I thought the hints came a little quickly. I'm a little slow sometimes at finding the objects :-).

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the game. I give it a Thumbs Up! Thanks Immanitas for yet another super game for my library. Thanks GGOTD for all you do. Stephen, I missed you review today. I hope you get your password soon.

Well, phooey! I hate the looks of this layout. The other was just so much nicer! I know the Daily Giveaway has been using it for awhile but was hoping it would never make it over here to the Game section. I just don't like it...it's not pleasant to look at. The other was so much nicer. I'm downloading the game now so haven't tried it yet.

And no, I don't like having only 2 choices to download the giveaways....either share or make it go to your email....when y'all first implemented it in the other section, people were complaining that having it go to their email wasn't working right so I just share so I can download it right away....that works if you're on Facebook & you can always delete the posting afterwards.....out of spite if for no other reason. :-/

Well, they give the opportunity to get a download link via email, but to give an email address to an unknown company will very possibly result in very much spam... I guess I'm done here too.

I understand your reluctance to use your primary email address for purposes such as this. In fact, I do NOT recommend providing your primary communications email address for ANYTHING other than communicating with individuals whom you trust to not abuse it.

I DO recommend getting a "throwaway" email address (such as Gmail or other free provider, although I don't recommend Yahoo since it's blocked by many servers because of general abuse and spamming). Always use their web-based client, and not the SMTP client, which will automatically download attachments to your system, presenting a tempting target for "curiosity clicks" and subsequent infection by adware, malware, viruses etc.

It's always a good idea to err on the side of caution when interacting with anyone you don't know online, whether it's an individual or a company. In most cases, legitimate operations will provide an alternate means of verifying their legitimacy, and it's a good idea to perform your own due diligence - if only a simple Google search.

I concur with the majority of commenters that the "new look" of GGAOTD leaves much to be desired, especially for those of us who have become accustomed to the "old" site and its formatting. I personally hope this site reverts to its original format, but I understand that the logistics involved may be more than Stephen would wish to endure in accomplishing same. In any regard, I refuse to "look a gift horse in the mouth," and proffer thanks where they're due for providing free games for us to enjoy. All the best!

You get it when you click on the green "Download now" button. It's the last sentence of the text, in small print. Here's the whole text:

"Share and download!
We need your help to keep offering the best software completely free.
Share our links on social media, and more quality developers will join in. If you don't
like a particular title, you are free to delete the shared post about it.
Share & Download

Alternatively you can get a personal download link via email. "

Hope that helps!

Your e-mail address they've already got. Namely if you comment here. Or have you here always specified a non-existent e-mail address?

As many have already posted, I have already stopped using the main page, the mobile apps and now will sadly be leaving this site too. There is less information, less screenshots, difficulties in navigation, giving my email to a company I do not know and I do not use facebook. So no options left for me - good luck to the developers in finding people to test-drive your products and leave reviews. Thank you for everything in the past, so long and farewell.

With this very unfriendly new format, the data mining Facebook feature, and Whiterabbit locked out, I really couldn't tell if this was a game I wanted to try at the cost of risking so much. I will pass from now on.

I looked forward to Saturday morning coffee with Whiterabbit and GGOTD, and the familiar members of the community. That was a huge part of the appeal of this site--it felt like friends, and WR was trustworthy. Even if I didn't want the software or leave a message, I usually checked in, read comments, and learned a lot from this very interesting group of people.

Now that is gone. You freeze out WR--and no more trust. And now you want us to bow down to the Stalin of data mining--Facebook! Doing so not only gives access to my data, but the date of all of my friends and family members, their phone lists, etc., if they use Facebook on their phone, which many people do. Now, with FB data mining--this simply is NOT a Giveaway anymore, and the real Cost is more than the purchase price of most of these games.

Thoroughly agree, I've been here for many years and though i didnt always comment, it was always an interesting /informative read esp.
with WR's helpful comments.
Definitely concerned with the addition of Facebook for privacy reasons and because the link to the game, if you use the browser Firefox, doesnt work - it just puts you in a loop.

Facebook has proven to be SO untrustworthy not even sure why GGOTD would ruin its wonderful reputation by teaming with it.
