I know how to dig down several layers, but what about when they're all stone? I'm thinking of episode 3, level 8. I can't get the 2 jewels at the top right. Solutions?

Thumbs up to Giveaway of the Day! Part 1 and 2 for free within the same week! Can't beat that!

I find the game a little too easy myself, but my 5 year old LOVES them! Great game for kids and the easy kid mode means you get a break and time for yourself!

Couldn't ask for more! Thanks so much GATD!

Jimmy, comment #39; when you unpack the zip file you get three files, a read me file, a set up file (which is the demo version of the game), and an activation module. You must click on the activation module first and wait until it says successfully activated; then install the game to wherever you usually install it to.

The game should be activated.

I hope this helps.

#39, if you download the package from GGOTD the zipped archive contains a readme file, an install file, and an activation file. install the game first then open the activate program and that's it. hope that works.

This and the other Snowy games have potential, but from what I saw on Win ME, the Snowy games had a lack of visible platforms.

To #20(MarilynT), #26(Christine), #31(Bonnie Martin)
I want to thank everybody that took the time to answer.
It really was bugging me that I couldn't figure it out.

To Whiterabbit: I was going through all the links you posted earlier, screenshot by screenshot, to learn more about the game and how to play.
I appreciate your reviews, tricks & screenshots, that's how I learn.
(Hope you are feeling better).

It's just so nice when people help out.
Thank you all :-)

This is very much more of the same of the first game. Which is not a bad thing, since Snowy Part 1 was a vivid, enjoyable 2D puzzle platformer in the venerable Lode Runner mold. Still, there's no innovation over the original at all. It's just 60 newly designed levels, and I don't really think it's worth the 91 MB, that is unless you have a cutting edge computer for which that much space is a drop in the bucket.

One minorly annoying aspect of the game is the scratchy stepping-on-a-cat "wow" emitted by Snowy every time one beats a level. Could've done without that.

I see the humor in what #2 is saying. Though I enjoy most of the Snowy games that have been offered here, the Snowy brand seems to be synonymous with direct clones of old games to make a buck rather than originality. I miss the days when cute characters were only part of the video game equation. I'm reminded of old arcade games like "Mappy" that combined cuteness with a simple, yet original game concept.

Perhaps I'm looking to deeply into this. The Snowy games are fun for what they are, and high quality to boot. The Snowy character isn't without his charms either. An unassuming little bear that has a knack for getting into adventures much bigger than he is. Still, considering the potential of his character it would be great to see a Snowy game that wasn't a near direct rip of an already popular game.

As for the game of the day, there's virtually no difference between it and Snowy Treasure Hunter 1. I was hoping for improvements in the form of proper windowed mode and widescreen support, no dice. This is a problem that plagues many other Alawar games. Widescreen monitors are slowly becoming the standard; so if a game doesn't yet support widescreen it really should compensate for this in the form of a decent windowed mode.

I suggest you go through the first episode that tells you exactly what to do as there are pop up windows that tell you all you need to know.

Oh thank you! I love problem solving/puzzle games and Snowy one of my favorites.

Snowy is a bear that goes through a maze of platforms, ladders and swinging ropes. He digs for treasure and must avoid monsters. Extra lives and clever monster-fighting prizes like cages can be picked up also. Snowy games look simple at first, but get a bit harder after about 8 levels as the logic needed to obtain all prizes becomes more involved: solving digging problems as #18 above found out. Later on the problem solving becomes even more complex.

If each level were easy, it WOULD be a children's game as some have noted. Instead, I get tickled with satisfaction when I solve the puzzle, grab the last prize and get to the exit before the monsters catch me or I get buried under a tombstone.

The game features sound and music levels, multi users, saved levels, adjustable keyboard controls, game pad use. Nice!

#18 - try digging two spots next to each other before jumping down. This way you can often leave yourself an exit so you don't get trapped in the hole. The level with steps is fun because you have to go down a step, turn and dig, go down a step, turn and dig, go down a step etc before finally jumping down the correct hole to get all the prizes. If all else fails, the children's level will walk you through it.

Alawar and GGotD. Thanks for this one. It's a great new Snowy stress buster for my weary days.

PC tools tagged it a Trojan or actions similar to a virus.
It also attempted to alter another program.
uninstalled it..sometimes free turns out to be the most expensive.

I guess you never played Loderunner; to get through several layers of bricks, you need to start by burning several on the first layer (one more than layers needed to get through), drop down and burn the next bunch (backing up to get each brick-make sure you always start burning at one end), until you finally burn your way through.
Hope this explains how to get through the layers...

I bought this yesterday, not realizing there was also a Snowy Treasure Hunter 3 as well, so I thought maybe Alawar would not give this one away. My kids love the one from the other day, so as a belated birthday present I bought this one for Emily. “Cest la Vie”

The game is basically an extension of the first release, with the same control and video options. I mistakenly didn’t check the control options the other day, assuming it would be keyboard control only, but I was wrong. You can use a keyboard, joystick or mouse, and I presume if you have emulation software you can use a game pad as well.

For those with super slow machines, or anyone that gets any flickering while playing, be sure to turn off VSync, which will help the display stabilize. The game comes set with it ‘on’ as default. For anyone with a recently bought computer (that is over the past few years, lol) you can improve the graphics by setting the detail to 32 bit. It’s set to 16 as default. (This is easily overlooked).

Apart from this the options menu is very basic, with music and sound controls

There are eight episodes, two training episodes called Monkey Business (serious campaign) and Liana climb (for the kids) that are 17 levels and has tutorial windows with practice levels and six other episodes called Jungle Gems, secrets of Maya and Too the East which are found in the serious campaign and African Pastime, Maya’s treasures and Eastern Secret for the kids. Each of the serious episodes is 20 levels and the kiddies 10 levels. I went through most of the training levels with the intention of making up a downloadable file with all the tutorials, but the game froze at level 9. When I returned to the game after having to close the computer down forcibly, the last three levels I’d played had not saved so I had to start from level 6 again. I didn’t bother as I’ve got some urgent business to attend to. So it would be great if someone could check whether there is a problem out at this level as I haven’t had any problems with this particular computer. I did however decide to zip and post the image files, although the last episode is missing from the tutorial sessions.

You can see the screen shots I’ve taken by following either of the two links below:

All on one page:

http://s109.photobucket.com/albums/n61/Whiterabbit_01/...

Slideshow:

http://s109.photobucket.com/albums/n61/Whiterabbit_01/gaotd/Snowy%20the%20Bears...

Or some general images from the net:

http://images.google.co.uk/images?hl=en&...

If you are into platforms and enjoyed the first offering from a few days ago, you’ll love this. It’s much the same as the first one, with 2 campaigns, the easiest called Task for Kiddies with 37 levels to play over one training episode and three other episodes as well as the 70 level Serious Campaign with 10 training levels and three episodes of 20 levels each. You can start from any episode provided you start at level 1; that is unless you’ve played the levels previously.

Multiple profiles can be held. If you want to create a new profile just click on the play button from the main menu, then click on change player which will take you to the player set up menu.

It’s worth 8 out of 10 for the children and 7 out of 10 for adults for its playability and graphics. I think the younger child may find it difficult to get through the serious campaign unless they have adult or older children’s help. :)

Nice one Alawar and the Game give away team.

If you want to save the images I’ve taken to place in your Snowy games folder you can download the tutorials and other images (37 in all) by following the link below:

http://files.filefront.com/Snowy+II+Images+and+tutorsrar/;8915837;/fileinfo.html

Once you’ve played any of the tutorials, then they are readily available from the in game selection screen where you can return to any level at any time once you’ve played it once. Also while in game you can access the help menu by pressing the Esc key which brings up the main menu which gives access to the help menu. You can return back to where you left the game by clicking on the okay button at the bottom of the help menu. So unless you tend to leave a game for long periods and need to be reminded of the tutorials quickly, the images shouldn’t be needed. :), but they will remain at Filefront until I decide not to bother canceling the delete orders I get from Filefront monthly.

Sorry for the delay. I slept in this morning, following a very late night. :)

Hi, it's me again (#18)
Thank you #20 (MarilynT)for your response.
Yes, I know what to do & how to dig through a single layer of bricks to get to the gems-I understood that part easily.
That is not the problem. The problem arises when there are several rows of bricks all around to dig through, w no other way of getting to the gems, i.e. when they are Encased or Surrounded by SEVERAL layers of bricks on the top, and there is no access from sides or bottom.
When one digs through the first layer, it's impossible to dig through a second one, and then the opening closes down, and the RIP block kills you.
Sorry if I didn't explain better the first time.
In the meantime, I have been sniffing around other sites looking for answers, and found others asking this same question, but still have not found an answer.
Thank you, Manu.

For #18 - If you click on help, it will tell you how to dig. Just position Snowy above the gem you are trying to get to & 1 space to the right or left, then right click the mouse. He will dig and then can walk to the hole and jump in.

I am really enjoying these games. Thank you so much.

Hi, I love the Snowy Bear games. Also dwnlded Treasure Hunter from last week. They are a lot of fun to play.
But I must be a bit daft, bc even though they are obviously easy and straightforward to play, I'm stuck on several levels on both games!!
I just can't get to some gems...
-The ones encased or surrounded by several layers of bricks.
I searched the web for cheats, but found none...
Everybody but me must know what to do.
I haven't played many games, so I really don't have much experience.
Could anybody point me out to what to do and/or where to learn?
Maybe Whiterabbit could spare a moment, if you come by today?
It would be much appreciated!
Thank you, Manu

The treasure hunter a couple days ago seemed like a cute game... but that night an overnight scan by Zone Alarm Suite (Kaspersky engine) flagged Program Files\Alawar\SnowyTreasureHunter\bass.dll as Trojan
Win32.AdWare.SnowyLunchRush. Is this clean? (It does NOT run without that file, which is now quarantined.)

I've loved all but one of the Snowy games that I've gotten from here (Lunch Rush is great, and so is the first Treasure Hunter from a few days ago. Didn't care much for Snowy Adventures from the previous week though), so since it looks like this is more of the same quality game play (and more from that cute little bear) as Treasure Hunter, I'll definitely be downloading this one too. :)

Installed without any problems and ran easily. Quite addictive for young and old, easy levels to begin with, but get progressively more difficult. A good game to pop away for a rainy day, otherwise you might not get as much done as you would like to. Thanks GGAOTD for this one, will definitely keep it.

I agree with #10 - I love this game - with every new version of Windows, I've lost more and more of my platform scrollers, so I was thrilled to see Snowy. I know people are going to complain about this being a kids' game, but frankly, I don't see why adults need to be shooting and blowing things up all the time. I got Snowy's Lunch Rush when it was offered here the last time. I love that, too. Thanks Alawar and GOTD!
