It was a pretty fun and challenging puzzle game.
Pity it couldnt come with a level editor or else I'd have found this a keeper.

It turned out to be a perfect download for a no school snowy day. Both the 6 year old and 10 year old enjoy playing it.

I'm happy because the kids are playing a brain challenging puzzle game instead of those fun but otherwise time-wasting arcade games.

Really cute game. Fun music. I just wish I was smart enough to do these maze games. To get that little bear onto that little iceberg is so frustrating!

Game is a lot of fun. I'm glad to have it on my machine so when my niece and nephew visit they can play IT and not hurt any other programs or data on my laptop.

NOTE: when I ran it for the first time my virus program (Kapersky 6.0) gave me a "Proactive Defense Warning" saying: "Detected 'riskware': Hidden Install: Running process (PID: 4092): C:\Program Files\Puzzle Islands\PuzzleIslands.exe. Further Info: Program module C:\Program Files\Puzzle Islands\game32.img installed and running without user interaction. This activity is similar to Trojan Downloader/Dropper."

Also note that I chose to disable the offending file and my game ran just fine. Makes me wonder what that file was for if it doesn't affect the game? Perhaps it affects some part of the game I haven't tried yet.

"Cannot Select DB" --- I have been getting this small message in upper left of page each time I try to access "Fourms" from top of page. Has anyone else had this problem ? Any ideas ?
Thanks ...

I have downloaded several GOTD & GGOTD programs and find them amusing, and sometimes useful, depending on the program. Yesterdays GGOTD (Magic Ball 2: New Worlds) did not give me the full version. All I got was their usual 60 minute trial version. I know this is unusual for your site, but wanted to let you know of the problem, in case you get new users that might think GGOTD is bogus because of this type of thing.

Todays game looks good so far!

PS- I tired to post this to forums, but that doesn't seem to be functioning right now either. Thanks for your dedication, and usually well managed site. :)

Sigh... Mary, Nancy, nsgwen:

I highly doubt any of you will read this comment, but if you are, here goes:

Unzip using winzip, or just use the windows file compression utility. Then double-click click on activate. After that, double click on install.

If you're new to the site, let me suggest that you read the instructions first. If you're not new to the site, let me suggest that you read the instructions, and then bonk your head swiftly with both fists.

Anywho, nice game, I usually don't have the patience for puzzle type games, but the Snowy series has high replay value... I'm kicking myself that I didn't get the chance to download the side-scroller from a few days ago.

@LakeLivin

I've only noticed it on the games/apps I listed. But, those I learned the hard way.

Best bet: If the ZIP file has Setup.exe and Activate.exe, you probably need to run Activate for all your profiles/users in XP.

Better to do that, than that to find out several days later the kids' log-in only runs the demo.

It's a great game, but unluckily I'm having problems with both this game and the Snowy adventure you gave away two days ago.
The game usually crashes while I'm playing, and doesn't save my progresses. This is quite frustrating since I can't go on with the adventure one and I have to restart from the beginning, though with this puzzle I can just restart from the level I was at. Anyway, any suggestions?
Keep up the good work ;)

I installed it and then found out I only had 60 minutes of game time. I wish they would tell you it was only a demo before you downloaded it.

Thanks Promo (#14) for that info. I've been using gotd & ggotd for about a month and wasn't aware that I needed to activate some software for each user id I've got setup. Does this apply to all downloads with a separate 'activate' file only?

This game turned out to be only a 60 minute trial version. Did I do something wrong when I downloaded it? I am using Windows ME. I played the game for the 60 minutes and then it would no longer work.

This game and yesterday's I could not use as I got an error telling me I had no 3D device. I have previously been able to run 3D type of programs. Can anyone tell me what device I need? My husband has been mucking with our computer, perhaps he lost something on me? If anyone can help...

Excellent puzzle game, thanks GGOTD and Alawar! Cute graphics, nice soundtrack. Music, sound and video quality (16 or 32 bits) all adjustable in options. 44 levels for kids and 66 standard for their parents/grandparents. Standard puzzle pack does get challenging in upper levles but the pack for kids is easy. If the kids want to try the Standard puzzles no worry of them getting too frustrated, there's in-game video solutions if they get stuck after a few good tries.

As #10 Bonnie mentioned, there's an additional 60 level Brain Shaker puzzle pack for $14.95, also a free 5 level Simple Tasks that installs fine in the GGOTD version at the same link http://www.alawar.com/games/puzzleislands/ I have found the opposite of #6 DVD536, mouse controlled games are easier for kids because there's less controls for them to remember and only the two mouse buttons to manipulate while playing.

Remember, as with all Alawar games, if you have multiple users (profiles) on XP, you need to login and run Activate.exe for each user you want to have the game.

Otherwise, they will have the demo and your login will have the full version.

This is also the case with the Astro Gemini screensavers and Realore Games.

Maybe a new visitor will find this is helpful, wish I'd known it when I first started DL'ing games here.

I hope the giveawayoftheday team will consider adding this fact to the Readme.txt.

This is a nice game. I like the previous one better. But this is nice to play too. A nice twist with the same character.

Cons:
Hard to find how to quit the program
Mouse use only

Snowy Puzzle Islands was a gift from my husband and the first of your games I haven't been able to take advantage of. Dang it! I'll have to content my self with finishing Robox, or Crusaders of Space, or Cube Drift or blasted Fireman's Adventures for that matter. Thanks GGotD for all of these great games(especially puzzle).

For anyone who is interested, there is also a Brain Shaker Level Pack available at Alawar for 14.95. It has an additional 60 levels. Hmmmm ... maybe the developers will offer it soon for those who downloaded the original Snowy Puzzle Islands?

WhiteRabbit aka Stephen, I told ya you'd like this one.

Three thumbs up!

Very nice Snowy puzzle. My kids loved the last Snowy game and are already getting into this one. Mouse control doesn't pose any problems for my 6 and 8 year olds. Thank you very much Alawar and the GotD team for yet another great game. No problems installing as usual. :D
