In Brief:
Sapper Robot is a 2D top-down indie arcade horror game (though the horror appears to be missing) involving robots and stealth. The aim is to disarm explosives scattered around each level while avoiding enemies. If you are in danger of being seen red skulls appear in the direction of your enemies. (Every time I started a levee two or three appeared almost immediately and virtually from all directions)

To help avoid being seen turn off any lights you find using the E key. There are area's with no lights where it seems you are safer, but not totally. Just walk over explosives to pick them up. If you stumble upon any enemies move away from them if you are able. If any enemy catches you, you die and have to start the level again

Messages in the bottom left of the screen appear, to scroll thorugh those press E.

There is an indicator that turns green as you pick up explosives that's located along the top of the game arena. It shows you how much explosives you still need to pick up to complete the level.

To move around use the WASD keys.

There are ten stages to complete, all leves apart from level 1 are locked at the start. Once you complete a level the next level will be unlocked. you can replay unlocked levels.

Conclusion:
A reasonably entertaining game, but hard to beat as it's not easy to avoid enemies. Every time I played level one (over a dozen times), once an enemy detected you, they would follow you around, though you could get some respite if a wall seperates you from them, but only for a short time . It felt like they slowed their advance when in dark area's, but this made movement much more difficult for your character to see explosives.

Each time I attempted to complete the level I'd end up surrounded by enemies and die.

I would say this is one of those games to play for short breaks. Itwill also be pretty frustrating for most players, at least initially; that said, actually completing a level after several attepmpts will feel like you've acheieved something.

To be honest I almost thought about the arcade game Gauntlet but being hidden in the dark.

It is an interesting game for sure but the way the keys are mapped out, and the dark nature of this game, it makes it difficult to get used to. I would have loved to see this game at least pickup controller support at a bare minimum to make it easier to play.

sailorbear510 aka Jason,

I remember playing the original gauntlet with three university friends in the mid 80's. The student union had a corner set aside for arcade games called the Cave. Each of us would select one of the characters to control. It was on one of those sit-down coffee-like tables. Brilliant game. I usually played the wizard Merlin or the Warrior Thor if I could grab the joystick position before my friends. A couple of my small clique of friends were girls, so one of them would usually choose to play Thyra the Valkyrie. :)

I purchased a copy for my eldest son for his NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) and when it was released on Steam in 2014, I bought that as well, more for nostalgic reasons. It didn't live up to my expectations but was still a decent game. The game mechanic is different from the original; still, it's well worth buying if you are into hack & slash dungeon crawlers.

I'd loved to have been able to fight back in Sapper Robot, or at the very least have the stealth part of the game be more effective or be able to use the explosives you've picked up against the enemy.

I'll be keeping this one, at least until I've been able to progress though some of the levels to see if I can succeed. :)

sailorbear510 aka Jason, Speaking of today's game which is a horror type games a lot of digital stores are having Black Friday sales. I was able to get the remake of Resident Evil 3 for $9.99 on XBOX One which is the lowest price ever for this game. I am not sure on other platforms but it does not hurt to look.
