You can earn cards during the game, but the unregistered account does lay some limitations on you such as no pvp matches, as well as some other limitations. Still, the free version will give you an idea as to whether you would have liked the game. Alternatively trry the game I refer to called Rise & Fall of civilizations at War, which is available free.
