#29 - I realise that I'll never see anything near current games up here. But some of these titles are rather lacking. My point was that because of the choice of games (or better yet the unavailability of commercial quality games) GAOTD is limited to who their audience may be. I'd say users with either young 'unblemished' children... or adults who have not experienced commercial quality games are the most likely audience.

So, due to what my gaming expectations are I'll *try* and not waste more of my time here. I remain hopeful that the daily giveaway (not game) will remain useful. But I'm very opposed to loading tons of small apps that install as services and hog CPU and RAM resources.

And really whats better here (and way more useful) are the comments about which free ware apps do the same (and generally better too). Why are freeware apps better? Because they tend to be open source meaning you have more developers working on the app, rather than one or two poorly paid uni undergraduates. (BTW I myself am a developer.. but I'm also 21yrs old.. so I still enjoy gaming)

And yes, it would be stupid for publishers to release commercial quality games here... they'd lose money of course.

Back to work then...

#29, I don't think any reasonable person who visits this site expects free games of anywhere near the size and complexity of the ones you mentioned, just ones that are better than the majority on offer here.
The old saw that beggars cannot and should not be choosers holds true, but at some point even beggars will stop coming to an area where they only receive plugged nickels day after day.

Hello again everyone,

#33 Laura Sierra

…you might not like tetris , but , you know …some of us dont like the hack, slash and burn, death games that some of you are very enthused about. there are a wide range of games and tastes here.

As a matter of fact, I don't like those kinds of games either and you'll never see me ask for them.

Yes, there are a wide range of games here and I didn't happen to complain to GOTD for having it here. I do understand the GOTD initiative. However, I did review the game, which is what we're supposed to do and it's true that what I had to say wasn't all flattering.

That's not what the software houses are looking for - they are looking for honest reviews that come from users who would like to see the gaming world improved.

I'm very happy you like tetris, however the majority of gamers who are used to challenges with more complexity, will definitely find it boring and turn to other games to satisfy what they want to see in a game - me included.

I agree, it would be nice to try some of the newer games Alive Games offers, but for those who don't have a tetris game, or kids, it isn't a bad version: there are options for sound, music and a variety of skins to choose from. The controls run fine on my notebook (XP) and, as mentioned, the space bar is available to pull the piece to the bottom. It also offers the option of windowed play, which so many do not. So all-in-all, considering it is a re-tread of an old stand-by, I'd give it about 6/10. My only problem is I can't get it to activate! I've been with GGOTD from the beginning and this is the first time I can't figure out what the problem is. I've run acivate-install-activate (my usual combination) and I still get "unregistered version" - anyone else having trouble? As always, thanks GGOTD team. Your efforts are much appreciated!

I was excited when I saw it was a tetris game today....I had been thinking of buying Tetris for Nintendo DS (and I may still) so this looked like a nice little distraction, but the controls are TERRIBLE. If you press ALT to speed up a falling block, there is no way to slow it down again, so you end up with tetris blocks hurling downwards in the wrong position. In most tetris games you can hold the down arrow key to momentarily speed up a block and release it to get it to normal speed. Yes, the graphics are lacking, but the real reason this gets a thumbs down from me is that the controls almost render it unplayable.
