I haven´t really played a breakout clone since Arkanoid and wasn´t sure what to expect. In the end, I was pleasantly surprised by this game. The graphics are attractive and effective, the 3D levels are interesting and the powerups can combine in some cool ways. I found the music kind of annoying and it would be great if the scenery didn´t always collapse in such a predictable way, but it is certainly a fun diversion. The robot tantrum when you drop the ball is amusing as well.

@ 93, 95, etc.

Read the directions in the readme.

Always read directions.

To activate this one you need to run the activate program after installing it. It comes in the zip file.

I love this game. Alawar always brings high quality games to gamers like us.

As far as the crashing goes, this is limited to Geforce 2 MX and Geforce 4 MX. Those cards do not fully support the rendering function calls required by this game.

Can't run the game on my pc too. The system requirements stated above are different than those in the readme file. My problem is I have lower processor (P3 866MHz) and RAM (128MB though, but apparently you need to have higher than the minimum for it to work) than what's in the readme file. So too bad I'll have to forgo this one. :-(

May I suggest that perhaps those who have problems with the game, e.g crash, fatal error etc, specify their pc spec in their comments. This may be informative to others who are considering to download and after learning that their pc doesnt meet the requirements, will save unnecessary time, cost and heartache. Just a thought..

Whiterabbit, thank you so much for your comments daily. I wait to download any of the games (except Atlantis Quest) until I see your comments. VERY HELPFUL!

As for the game, it is great!!! I really like how the board moves with you for an extra challenge. I enjoy having a character to move instead of just a paddle. I also like how the scenes change with each level. Definitely a keeper for me! I give this game a 9/10.

Keep up the good work, GGOTD and Alawar!

Thank you so much!! The kids have laughed for the last 2 hours. They think it is hilarious how the little man throws around his paddle, and we get to discuss how it is "NOT GOOD SPORTSMAN SHIP" to throw it down when he loses. They think this ball breaker is much more challanging than most due to trying to catch all the gems. I only got my pc back due to bath and bed time. Keep up the good work.

San Chonio, comment #76, I love playing adventure/action games with a story line. I have hundreds of commercial games such as Oblivion, All the Battlefield Series, Stalker, Armed assault, Vietcong, All the Unreal Tournament games, as well as loads of RPG's, simulators such as Silent hunter 4, countless strategy games such as Cossacks and American conquest as well as the command and conquer and commando’s series and even more arcade games especially breakout games. It takes all sorts, but I don't get bored by these relatively simple games. They actually give me a pleasant respite from the violence of most computer games.

Re comment #69 by Karen. Once you've unpacked the zipped file you should see activate and a setup icons. Click on the activate icon first. Once it says successfully activated, click on the okay button. Then click on the set up program. Follow the on screen prompts to install the game to a default folder in the program files of your root directory (C drive). You can select where you want to place the file if you wish (I have a separate games folder which helps to keep the program files folder more manageable)

I always click on the activate icon again once I’ve installed the game just in case. But I don't think it's really necessary. Once you've followed those instructions, the game should be registered. I hope this helps. :)

P.S. San comment #76, I wasn't being derogatory, just trying to point out not everyone who likes the higher end games finds these arcade titles boring. :D

This is one of the cutest Breakout clones I've ever seen. The kids will like the great graphics, & there's enough action & unique power-ups to hold the adults attention. I have a bunch of breakout games & this will be one of the favorites. Loaded fine, plays great & mine's no muscle machine. Thanks GAOTD - great choice.

Dis game is teh suck

Just kidding. It's okay as far as breakout games go, but it's nothing that I'll keep on my computer.

If you like breakout, you'll enjoy it. Those of us who like to game for more storyline, action, and excitement get bored by it.

I have same problem as #7,12,14,24,37,44,46 and 48 : fatal error. Game is activated and installed without problem, then runtime error ! It says game32.img has requested the runtime to end an unusual way after telling me a PHYSFS_init() failure... :-(((
This is the 1st time I have such a problem with a GAOTD game. But it seems Alawar games are crappy for me : yesterday I got problem with Brave Piglet game : the basket with the pig in don't go up and down, it always stays up.

Thanks for this fun game :)

I really like the unique boards... I will take a little time penalty just to look at the board for a sec or two :)

I also like the actual graphics and graphic style as well.

A couple of things - and these may just be specific to me -

I wish the field of play was a little deeper, There are so-o-o many things falling toward you that you don't ever - no matter how good you are - have a snowball's chance of getting even 3/4 of them.

The way the perspective changes when you move the paddle threw me off at first, but got less annoying as I played more.

So many of the "power-ups" and bonuses look like the ball it was a bit nerve wracking trying to get to the right one.

But overall I give it a 7 out of 10 for creativity, fun, & playability.

"Techie" Teri

PS. G.GAOTD... I will always be happy with a breakout game... I am an addict! :)

The download page states requirements as a P-II at 600mHZ and XP. The readme file in the game folder specifies a 1000 mHz processor but operating systems from 98 to XP including 2000.

I'm trying to run this on a P-III at 600mHz and win2K - it crashes with a runtime error 'R6025 - pure virtual function call'. Also a file 'game32.img' in the game folder is referenced - I don't see it there.

Any help?

Nice game. Note to the makers: When running in 1024x1280 (one of those rotating displays, dontcha know) the game appears to always be either vertically stretched, horizontally cropped, or both. Needs resolution selection or at least to be smart about aspect ratios when running fullscreen.

Hello again everyone! ;)

As I said earlier, I love just about every breakout game on the software market. I don't care how many there are, they all have their differences and are really fun to play.

Plus, as you reach the end on one, you can still look forward to reaching the end of one of the others, or moving to a more difficult game play if available. [easy, medium, difficult] Unfortunately, this game doesn't provide that feature though.

Activation and installation was quick and easy and I don't seem to be having any of the issues that other people have had. Sorry guys - perhaps it conflicts with some other program you have running in the background? Or I suppose it could be your machine settings also.

Roboball has much the same power-ups, but with a few extras that other games don't have. Gems drop down and move towards you - not necessarily relying on being released out of a block or other building matter.

Options are incredibly basic, with sliders for both music and sound FX, but no choice of music or game editor, as many games include today.

You have to exit out to the main menu to save your game, which will bring you back to the same level next time - however you will lose your current points for that level. That's pretty standard with a lot of other games too.

I can deal with it.

Graphics are lovely, though I'm not too thrilled with the darker backgrounds on some levels. I'm guessing they're only there to make that level more difficult for you.

Again, I can deal with it.

All in all a really fun game to play if your a fan of breakout games!

Thank you Alawar for another great game! I went to your website and see lots of other games I'd love to try also. I hope you'll consider offering these to us to assess, recommend and buy also! At any rate, we're happy to have you with us and hope you stay! ;)

Thanks again to GOTD for all they do to keep this website appealing to more and more software houses! I've bookmarked Alawar and won't forget them any time soon!
Have a wonderful day everyone! ;)

Thanks for this one. Great fun to play and quite nice graphics. But not so stable it crashed with a fatal error after an hour of gameplay and when it restarted I was back at the start so if you're going to play it it might be worth exiting out to the menu to save your progress now and again.
