Downloaded zip file (Win 7 Home Premium) but no matter how many times I tried to run the .exe file, it froze my computer. Got so bad that some times my whole desktop vanished and I had to hard reboot. Finally gave up.

comment on Relics of Fate (added by moderator)

I appreciate the developer providing us with a free copy of their game. In return, they ask for our opinion. I hope that my opinion can help you meet your goals.

I found this game to be disappointing as it has an amateurish feel. The graphics are fine but it does take a good bit of time to switch between screens. The story line is rather run of the mill and mundane. There are far to many puzzle features, some of which are extremely mouse click dependent, making the game feel more like a chore.

I did think the dog was cute. Some folks were distracted by him but I have two Cairn terriers so I'm accustom to being watched. A good terrier must be on guard for everything, including any tasty morsels some human might drop.

I do give the game credit for keeping the objects a reasonable size and color so that those of us with less than perfect vision can still play.

That is exactly what I'm getting on my gateway system.
Much as I hate to say it, if you can't see anything, the game is pretty much unplayable.
win-7 64 bit 4-gig 4 gig vidio ram, dell system, latest drivers, etc.
About the only other game (hog) i've had problems with it the paralika relations.. its vidio looks nutters.
A shame.. it at least looked playable otherwise.
IF there is a vidio fix, i'd sure love to hear it.

Time for an upgrade?? Does it really make sense to upgrade just to play a free game?? Why reward BAD programming just because they are too arrogant or lazy to do a proper job. A company that forces you to upgrade with a 'my way or the highway' isn't a company I'm interested in (another company in Washington state comes to mind).

Look, its easy to either list a requirement that you must have something like 1920 x 1080, or test for it during the install, add an error message, allow access to the config file, let it run in windowed mode via a switch, etc, etc, etc. As I said, arrogant or lazy.

Hi,
It took a long while to download on 8.1 over 20 minutes. It started slow, had trouble entering name. I switched to the regular
pointer and game went faster after that. The graphics are good. It went fast in casual mode, one thing leading to another. I
played quite awhile. It is a bit boring to me, just collecting the items and then moving along. I did like some of the movement, such as
the carousel and games. Thanks for another good game and have a good week, Lee

This game didn't work for me, either :-( Parts of scenes were compeletely black, and printed dialogue came up as a transparency on the scene -- completely unreadable. I didn't even get the dog! (Win7 Home Pro with oodles of RAM and disk space available)

This is the second MysteryTag game - and disappointment - in a week that didn't display properly for me. Darn! It was good as far as I could get!

..........................Moderator Comment...........................

Hi Mac, have you checked the FAQ's over in the game discussion sticky section. Also check the event logs to see if there is any messages releated to this problem. It may be fixable. Try changing the graphical parameters via the compatibility mode.

Download and extration without any problems on Windows 7. The hint dog drives me mad, graphics is so, so and I miss some logics in searching different locations. HOGs rather simple, mini games of the sort I don´t quite like. All in all average. I would give it 5 points.

I had to delete the game, it was unplayable. I can't see the picture! It keeps blacking out at various times and just got worse and worse. I'll check back tomorrow and see what else is on offer.

I'm not happy that most of the time, the picture is "blacked out" except for a few items. Then, when I click on the Hint button, a circle lights up part of the blacked out picture. How the heck can I find anything if it's in the dark???? And some of the puzzles, I can't see anything like a "prompt" to follow, so it's off to use the "skip" button again. I don't think the video on this game is well designed.

Too many graphics problems. Bob (comment #15) suggested going into the game folders to try to fix it oneself, but nah!! Too much trouble, even if I knew what I was doing. I will uninstall this one. Funny though, same/similar issues with Flying Islands Chronicles from June 7, and it's not my machine per se, maybe just some incompatability issues.

Unfortunately yes it DOES cause MASSIVE problems with the game play. Hey ho; another MysteryTag game I can't play because it either won't start or had some bug or other within the game which renders it unplayable.

It's interesting that FeAudrey mentioned she had the same problems on an hp laptop, because I'm using (guess what?) an hp desktop! Specifically, an hp/Compaq dc7600 SFF* desktop. (*SFF=small form factor)

@MysteryTag: do you sense a common factor here? Could this be either aproblen with the Intel on-board graphics processor? Or possibly just "something" that's incompatible with hp hardware and/or BIOS?

I hate to diss a game I quite like (based on the littel I've been able to play so far), but in this case the bugs do make it unplayable on my PC (sadly!).

FeAudrey, I'm getting the same. without giving away any spoilers, there are several game areas where (as in the Tutorial), most of the screen is black; and finding anything there is entirely down to the HINT button.

Ditto, some "things" in the game literally aren't drawn on the screen!

As I said in another comment, this smacks of inadequate testing before the game was released. Which is a shame, because I like the gameplay.

I think you'll find that Doctor Who games come exclusively from the BBC, and are typically free to download and play.

When I last looked, they had quite a selection of Dr. Who games available on the Doctor Who page.

I was pleased to see another MysteryTag game, and have enjoyed what I have played so far.
The hint dog is horrible though(WHY have it constantly moving and making a noise? It's a bit creepy .
I far preferred the little white dog from Relics of Fate.
But other than that, thanks so much for the chance to try it and thanks again to both MysteryTag and GGOTD! :)

A glance at the Big Fish forums shows that the display problem (and I had thought that all that blackness was part of the game) is well-known, and apparently un-remedied.

I have been playing around with "Properties", but nothing seems to make any difference.

Very disappointed; this one looked good. Have noticed the "thumbs" have started turning down.

Interesting game. But with no graphics options it runs in a "reverse letterbox" on a wide screen monitor, not a dealbreaker but certainly anachronistic.

This is a weird one: I don't see the 'hint dog' (which I assume is the same dog as in Relics Of Fate, right?), which looks like it will make other GGOTD users envious! And when I click the Journal, the text appears — but NOT the Journal itself (the background of the Journal, the white pages and so forth which should be — but isn't — behind the text). which makes the brown text almost unreadable against the game screen.

This is on XP SP3.

Anyone else getting this? I've tried all combinations of full screen and system cursor, but it makes no difference. I'm just hoping this won't cause any problems with the gameplay later on.

I'm seriously unimpressed by these bugs: they smack of poor playtesting before releasing the game.

Odd issue here---after about an hour's play, suddenly parts of scenes (animated parts) appear as if 3-D---kinda red and green and weird looking. Rest of scene and subsequent scenes are fine until it happens again. Most of the time, I can still play through (i.e. the raging robot is weird 3D, but I can still throw water at him) but sometimes, it's a puzzle and in one case, I had to hit Skip, which I never like to do, because the objects weren't displaying correctly. Very new advanced computer, strong video card, Win 8.1, other games work fine. Going out of the game and starting it up again doesn't fix it. And it's only happening (so far) on a few scenes.

Otherwise, enjoying this.

So far so good! The game downloaded slowly but installed very quickly. Have played a little way into the second level and found it easy to manipulate. Finding things is not too difficult and the map is great as it shows all the inactive sites. This stops a lot of backtracking when looking for items. Yes, the dog is a bit annoying but you get used to it after a while. All in all it promises a few pleasant hours. Thank you to the sponsors GGOTD and to Whiterabbit. When all exams are finally over the relief will be so intense you'll wonder why you ever stressed out. That's still to come! Good luck!

Downloaded and extracted (not installed, is this game portable?) without problems on win8.1 64 bits. Starting the game completely froze my computer, had to use the power button to shut down and restart. I've had the same problem with a number of recent game giveaways. I suspect a conflict with my firewall (Privatefirewall 7.0). After turning off wifi and the firewall, the program started without a hitch. The game looks okay, and the story seems intriguing. No time to play today, so I can't really give a review, I just wanted to mention the startup problem, and would like to know if anyone else has had the same problem in the last few weeks.

Good game, pleasant enough but not all that exciting. I have Win 7, Home Edition, 64-bit, Intel G45-G43 onboard graphics. It works well, no glitches or sputters. The graphics are fine....even though the scenes are just "ordinary" places, the graphics still look a lot better rather than just posting a picture & building a game around it. The one thing I dislike is the "bobbing" orange dog....STOP moving please-it's quite distracting! Thanks for another HOG, I like these. :-) --Dax

Looks nice, but the the graphics aren't painting properly -- especially the journal, which isn't readable due to no background (just shows up against the scene).

I'm in the tutorial, which seems not to integrate well with the game play.

Running it on a 64-bit Win 7 HP system.

Have the same problems. First time ever a few weeks ago, now this one. Downloads and installs fine. When I start, it gives me a black screen with an Out of Range error. Either my video card or monitor apparently is limited to 1280 x 1024. I meet all other requirements. It would be nice to have a warning if a game needs (requires) a higher resolution. Or perhaps a way to access the config file to run at a lower resolution. Hey, I'll live if I don't need the requirements, but to download and install and just get a black screen and error message is poor programming. BTW, I went directly to the Bigfish site and downloaded the demo. Same problem, so I guess it isn't just a GOTD issue.

I agree with Eric. This is a second one for me as well (the other was a few weeks ago). Never had any problems in the past. Anyway, this game downloads and installs fine. Start and all I get is a black screen with an Out of Range message. I can hear the music in the background. Have to use Task Manager to kill. I meet all the stated requirements, so don't know what's wrong. It would be NICE to have a warning (as mentioned by Eric), additional requirements stated, OR better yet a way to access the config file, or options without starting the program. Most programs do.

The game downloaded and runs fine on my Win7/64 laptop. Good graphics, fun story, the gameplay is a little different, a nice change from the standardized sameness of so many HOGs.

Note to developers: Lose the hint dog. I agree with mag_ma (#5 above) - the constant movement is annoying.

I had a very similar experience in that some games worked fine and others said that the monitor needed to be in 1400 x 900 (?) mode. What I discovered was that my security suite was preventing the game from being displayed properly. I switched the security suite to "game mode" and 95% of the games now work fine. I still have problems with one or two of them, but I'm a much happier gamer now.

Thanks Giveaway for the games and Whiterabbit for your reviews and help!

Can you go into the games data folders and see if the videos will play by themselves (vlc) or such, and could be video lag-driver -chipset update problem , or direct-x update or sometimes just re-install that or the game , use a game booster and some "referee" progam like boost speed or pro-lasso , etc . works on my one mixed chipset HP- W7x64. Gateway usually no problem. check the formus , endless source of good ideas before you give up on the download , worth it.

Using DTA (on each machine), the download went pretty smooth. The "install" (extraction) was slow in both cases but it did work fine.

It runs fine on both Win 7 and Win 8.1. I've only gone a little ways into each version to be sure of no major hiccups.

I did notice one thing strange. On the main menu, at the bottom, are the copyright notices. It lists this year (2015) and 2 companies -- MysteryTag (as expected) and MyPlayCity! It's not on the MyPlayCity site and this is the first time I've seen that tag on a game I did not get from there.

The game seems fine and works just was well as the two other MysteryTag HOG games I've downloaded from here recently. Enough to get a thumbs up!

Unbearable.

That horrible dog bouncing its head non-stop in the corner is unbearable. I looked for a way to turn it off but found nothing. It's worse than that horrible paperclip thing in earlier Windows.

If there has to be an animated dog, make it sit still except when needed. It does the same motions over and over and over and...

I lasted almost a minute into the game before I had to close it.
