fun game when bored but has a few bugs in it,
the side scrolling areas are a bit ruff, somtimes your mouse moves somtimes the game screen moves in the same area,
the minimum number of shots required is compleatlly off in about half the levels, if you arc high you can hit the targets in one shot each in most of them
the sprite layers are off on levels where you have moving objects such as the doors and levers, if you aim for the top or bottom of them you can somtimes shoot through them or shoot through the walls they are against,
and finally it does not support quick sucsessive clicks, if you double click the mouse somtimes it registeres as one click sometimes no clicks are registered
other than these few adjustments the replayability is ok for such a short game and although it is a simplified version of the game wurms, it is a pretty fun little time waster
thanks

I actually consider Angry Birds type games to be considered a clone of Scorched Earth type games, or at least an attempt at it, but the dev only got through half of the coding and decided to call it a casual game. The other diff between this and Angry Birds is that Angry Birds features physics-based planks/barriers instead of destory-able landscape, Scorched Earth style. Actually, if anyone is interested in playing the game with the improvements I suggested, try Scroched Earth / Worms type games.

Scorcher earth was one of my favorite games yearsback and I love the freeware remake Scorched 3D which you can find more info and download links for via the following link:

It's so much better than today's giveaway and available free 24/7

Not as impressed with this one as the last few Wheemplay games featured.
I liked the destructable scenery (and am beginning to think I'm really a vandal at heart) but...
The controls were awkward
The shot power indicator was hard to see
The physics seemed off to me(especially the sheep trajectories but I'll give a pass for the floating bits of leftover scenery)
There wasn't much variety of play (upgrades would be nice)
And, if one is going to make sheep as projectiles, it would be nice to be able to *see* them. Otherwise, they might as well be rocks or rockets or just blobs for that matter.
All in all. it just isn't as good as some of the other cannon physics games out there.

Try Scorched 3D it's much more satisfying

In an amazing feat of physics engineering, I present to you anti-gravity pillars!
Anyway, the title sounds Engrish (Japanese style), even though the developers are probably Russian/Ukrainian (as are a lot of software on the GOTD site). I'm not amused by this game, not only because of the bad English, but also of the dumb physics and the aiming controls that moves with your view instead of staying with the cannon. And I still can't figure out if I'm firing sheep or rockets.
BTW, for those who say that this is a Angry Birds clone, it is not quite similar. You can't destroy landscape in Angry Birds. And Angry Birds isn't even an original game. It's a popular clone of something older. (I've seen many Flash physics games that play the same way as AB before AB even came out.)
I'm more inclined to play INCINERATE than this game, even though I don't like top-down 3D arcade shooters.

This game DOES fire sheep from the cannon, what are you lot smoking?

(Attn. Whiterabbit-uk)
Whiterabbit-uk, I just wanted to say Thank You for all the work and time you have put into your reviews. Your links have brought me to many great free games. One that comes to mind is PoingPC a very fast, Breakout style game, loads quick and is great when you don't have the time to play a full size game. That is one of many games that I play because of your links and reviews, I go back in the game giveaway forums and search for your past reviews (a true wealth of game info & history). You are hands down the OFFICIAL KING of GAME REVIEWS on this site and this is coming from a fellow rabbit! KEEP PLAYING, Joseph W. aka WaterRabbit, Cape Cod, MA, USA

Poing is one of my favorite freeware arkanoids. Not played it in some time, but will now. :)

I tried the game - shot control way above my 6yr grand-daughter - but she laughed anyway at the ground being shot - more levels would probably help more adult players & easier shooting "mouse" GUI would allow children a bit better (sry) "shot" at the game. Thank you for this offering.

Yes we are shooting sheep out of a cannon. It took a few tries to get used to the controls. Installed and runs fine on windows 7, 64 bit.

Even though the download link clearly says "Download PiratesTime (for Windows and Mac) now" this is only a Windows executable and will NOT run on Macintosh.

Cute game, but the physics seem a bit wonky.
To other commenters: You are indeed firing Sheep.

What's that officer's name in the original Star Trek, Chekov? I think he's the one always saying he's on a sheep instead of ship...
In any case, the sheeps here are ammo being shot at other pirates. This is essentially an Angry Birds clone. The game played ok while being sluggish on my craptop, as with any flash based games. The ammo is unlimited unlike Angry Birds. Overall good graphics, ok sound, ok gameplay; however the flight path appears to be somewhat unrealistic. I can't quite put my finger on it, but shouldn't a projectile fly straighter at first then curve down, instead of in a perfect arc?
If anyone is interested in this type of games, I would suggest checking out Angry Birds if you own an Android smartphone/tablet, and its many clones.
For the dev, a few suggestions:
1. Please fix the projectile flight path.
2. To increase replayability, add purchase-able and selectable ammo upgrades for the cannon.
3. To further increase replayability, add hotseat multiplayer, e.g. another ship that shoots from the right side to see who kills the last or the most. Bonus points for shooting each other.

Oh, I thought this was an Angry Birds clone, just using pirate sheep, but if there aren't any pirate sheep, then there's no novelty.

Hello Andy, had the same problem like you. I am using Norton 360 and it deletes the gamefile when I try to run it.
You have to make an exception in Norton 360, then the game will run.
At least it works for me.

You might have a problem with any security pogram. Some can be set to automatically delete any suspicious program without even asking you. There have been such giveaways here. Kaspersky usually flags the Giveaway "Setup" as suspicious.
Make sure things get sent to Quaranteen not automatically deleted.
Offcourse maybe that is where it now resides.
Good Luck

Gorillas was based on an even older text-graphic game which I believe was called Castle. I think it was an early 80s game. It was of the first generation of computer games and where the whole concept started.
As for this game, I find the scrolling makes it very difficult to aim. It would be better for the screen to be adjustable, particularly for those with widescreen monitors.

The plural of sheep is sheep, and 'canon' in this usage is spelt cannon! Didn't know religious Canons go out shooting sheep, dressed as pirates! Oh Blimey!
Playing the game is quite fun, and can be played online at Kongregate too http://www.kongregate.com/games/NewArtGames/the-pirates-time

TO #10 PHIL K .
My friend , Greeklish has NOTHING to do with English .
When you write Greek words using English letters/characters ,
you get Greeklish .
It's been used back in the day , mainly in chat rooms ,
when Microsoft did not have suport for the Greek language .
So , we Greeks had to find a way to communicate and "invented"
the Greeklish .
I am NOT going to comment the "diminishing" aroma
of your comment ;-).

Slow. I know I need to upgrade but most games still run twice as fast as this one is running. Cute concept. I think my 6 year old will love it.

#9: "A decent game to waste away an hour or so."
#11: "I think the initial review is generous."
Purely FWIW, my wife often enjoys playing these simpler games for a few minutes here, an hour there, making it easily worth the few minutes it takes to download/install. If I had to hunt it down on-line, or if installation was more of a hassle then maybe that would be a different story, but between other games or when there's not enough time to risk being sucked into hours worth of game-play, they can be ideal.

I think the initial review is generous. The old DOS game of Gorillas was easier to play and more rewarding.

Pirate sheeps ?
With Greek or Spanish pirates on board talking Spanglish or Greeklish ?
You can hear such mangling of the English language (when they bother to learn english) from immigrants in Britain NOW never mind then.

LOL. I really was expecting to fire sheep as in that other sheep shooting game that's about. But no, no sheep, shame!
A decent game to waste away an hour or so.

I like the graphics. However, on my system, the animations show some time lag. The aiming mechanism works but, IMO, the controls could be made more responsive.

Downloaded and installed the game without any problem, went to GAME folder, found the the intended file ...also no problem ...
Clicked it, the game started, it showed up the first menu screen, the aiming and adjusting screen for a couple second then the game shut itself ... back to the folder again, was trying to restart it, but guess what ... the game file is gone, deleted by itself ..
Tried download it for a second time, but it ended up with the same result ...the game it self erased from the folder, nowhere to be found ... what's the problem?

To answer the question in the description: "Have you ever seen pirate sheeps?" Never. I have heard about pirate ships (boats) though. The only sheep I heared about are wooly animals that say "BAAEE". I don't know what the pirate version of them say though :P

Developers rely on good feedback to improve their games. If you download this game please take some time once you've played it a while to leave some constructive feedback either positive or negative. The more constructive feedback we get, the more likely developers are going to give more games away. The giveaway site already has a very good standing with the search engines. Developers want their products out there on the WWW, this site has the potential to do that. The game giveaway project gives away on average between 9 to 17 thousand downloads for each game depending upon what genre and how obscure the game is. That's a lot of homes these games are being downloaded into and a lot of 'potential' cash that's being lost by the developers. If we get better games because of better feedback, the community are likely to continue to benefit from the generosity of the developers. Satisfied community members are then more likely to visit the home sites of those developers and purchase games that they may not have bothered with before they discovered the developer via the game giveaway site, thus giving the developers more incentives to give away even more decent games.
Installation:Please leave some feedback once you've checked the game out. It can be positive or negative, but please explain why your reasons for the feedback you post. You could also leave suggestions for improving the game, for example, this game could do with a levels editor, add more power-ups, describing the ones you think would be suitable, add some mini games (which seem all the rage in some arcade games now) or enable the user to be able to change the in game music easily.
Thank you in advance to all those who take the time to post a constructive comment.
Regards
Whiterabbit aka Stephen
The game downloads to a 9.1MB zip file that unpacks to a read me and dual activation and setup file. The game installs to the following path by default, but you can change the path during the installation wizard:
C:\Games
As with all Wheemplay games Pirates Time unpacks to an executable directly into the games folder with no folder of its own. You will need to create your own shortcut for the game. The game works with XP, Vista and Win 7.
Problems installing or activating:l>
If you have difficulty downloading or activating the game you can try again later or do one of the following - for example once downloaded when you click on the dual activation and set up file you may get the message “Failed to connect. Please try again later” If this happens try re-booting your modem and/or router, failing that reboot your computer or clear out the internet cache, in particular the cookies for the game giveawayoftheday then re-try. Last week mike suggested that the problem has something to do with your browser. Check back to last week’s games for information on that if the above don’t work. Also Mr Snoozles posted another fix about a month ago

If you want to check what the game is like without having to download it you can find it HERE and HERE. I’ve checked them for safety and they seem fine.
You can also download a free copy 24/7 HERE
The Game:l>
Point your mouse roughly in the direction of the enemy or object you have to destroy. Then click the LMB once. This places a marker on the game arena which can be raised or lowered via the mouse. When you do this you can see the cannon on the pirates ship move up and down on a pivot. To adjust the strength of the shot move the mouse to the left or right. Moving the mouse to the left decreases the power and moving to the right increases it.
There’s 10 increments from 1 to 10. The game arena takes up more room than the game window allows. To see parts of the game world that are off screen just move your mouse pointer to the left or right edge to move in that direction.
The aim of the game is to destroy the objects in as few shots as possible to scor the maximum number of points.

Conclusion:
A typical Wheemplay game, short but playable. It reminds me of a DOS game I used to play way back before Windows was first released called Gorillas or Bananas where a pair of gorillas threw bananas at each other however today’s game is one sided as only the pirate ship fires anything. The game play is pretty basic, but I enjoyed playing it for 10 minutes here and there. There’s only 20 levels so the game doesn’t have long lasting appeal, but for a time filler it’s okay.
Score out of 100 = 52
Game Play - 70
Graphics - 50
Audio - 40
Re-playability - 50
Target Groups – 50
