I give up on trying to get my comments published. It is quite clear that the "moderators" act entirely on favoritism and do not actually moderate at all. I see comments with profanities like the "f" word and the "sh" word going through all the time, and yet my short, unoffensive remarks are denied. The very fact that the supreme "Whiterabbit"'s comments appear on every single game entry with MORE THAN ONE, quite often 2, 3, or even 4 separate comment boxes proves my theory unequivocally. GGOTD fails in that if these games are here for us to review, then why the heck can't you people allow us that simple freedom? Yeah we're getting free games, but the real purpose of the site is to give developers feedback. I bet most of the honest reviews here are denied and the majority of the ones that are actually published are sycophantic rhetoric. Thanks for the free games, NO THANKS to the senseless favoritism.

I really like this game, but it overwrote the first one Packs Adventures It installed in the same folder for some reason. Could this one be a re-run also.
Thanks

ggotd....I really appreciate your basic principals....I have purchased several Alawar Games. & Several other games... This is in humble appreciation of the many GOOD games they have given to us. Someone needs to inform Magnasolt...That by suppying us with all of these craxxy games they are turning off potential customers. I have downloaded, tried, And deleated several in the last few weeks. If I see their name on a game....I will not buy, I will not download...etc, etc,,. The best teacher is experience,,,,If their intent is to get us to try more of their software...(?) Games (?) Someone needs to tell them they are swimming UPSTREAM!!!

Thank you GGOTD but I'll skip this one.As others have already stated the graphics are terrible and it looks as if we are back in the 80's.
Magnussoft will have to do a lot better if it wants people to buy their games.

Hello there GGOTD. I think the site has been doing poorly recently as games featured are sub-par quality. Perhaps you should rerelease Bullet Candy or try to secure a game called Crimsonland for tomorrow's feature.

I was so hoping that the '2' in the name would mean a better game, but I was wrong. This game still plays just like the other one offered four days ago. The map in the corner is still way too small, the movement is slow and you can not see outside the immediate frame ... how do you know what is coming at you? I am truly happy that I didn't spend my hard-earned money on this game ... I am very disappointed overall. Thanks for the trial - I'll check back again tomorrow.

I haven't reviewed any games lately because my router was down. I don't know if I'll be able to review this one, either.

My review of Packs World 2:

This game is exactly like Packs Adventures, so please refer to my review of that game. Seriously, they even reused the "Yeah, baby!" sound bite from Austin Powers. The only real difference is that there's more pellets and fewer walls.

This is Pack's Further Adventures, for all you who couldn't get enough of his first adventures (both of you). :P

The main problem with it (as with the first one) is that you have to play primarily from that tiny, translucent map at the lower right of the screen (using eagle-vision, I guess). Otherwise, the ghosts will grab you soon as you see them as you scroll the screen. Like in other Magnussoft games, one glaring flaw destroys the playability of the whole thing. It could have been a decent game: All the other aspects are okay, although very old-school.

I'm giving it a thumbs-up because of its potential, but not too enthusiastically.

P.S.

Followed whterabbit's advice and tried Spheres of Chaos. It was a lot of fun for a throwback game!

Psychedelic graphics and a soundtrack right of "Logan's Run" make this an enjoyable Asteroids clone. Which I happen to think is under represented in todays world. I guess it is mainly due to the unavailability of the original Vector Graphics.

Installed and played for a few minutes. It is not a horrid game, but the enjoyment level is low for a few reasons;

1) Slow. Pac-Man was fun because it was a fast moving game. Too many of todays games sacrifice the "Normal" play mode in order to make "Bonus skills" seem that much more exciting. Occasional bursts of excitement might do it for a 10 year old, but not me.

2) Controls. This business about having to complete a move into the next visually undefined square is just noobish.

3) Board larger than desktop. (While as I type I realize that there might have been a setting int the options to shrink the board, oops :( ) I find that maze games are best when you can take it all in and plan accordingly. Having the visible board scroll along with you leads to a decrease in time to react, so games (again) must forfeit enemy A.I, Speed and maze complexity in order to keep the player from getting frustrated. Just a bad idea overall.

4) Map sucks. the overlay map is too small to be of any real use. it is not detailed enough in order to keep players informed by quick glances. In the long run you end up staring at the map and playing through it, not the basic view.

Another Magussoft game... That's all I need to know before I decide to try this. IMO a 28.7 install file is way over the top for this type of game. Thank you GGAOTD for the offer. Thank you Magnussoft for your contributiom.

RE comment #7 Joe:

If the programs are "useless" after losing, I guess you won't be buying them then, huh? Note that developers who give away their software here might really be hoping some people will actually BUY something from them later on. (Maybe they like to earn money for their work--you know, to eat, raise families, etc.. Perhaps you wouldn't understand that.)

If you haven't noticed yet, EVERNOTE is still graciously offering their software totally free today on their giveaway page. Of course, don't let that deter you from BUYING it later on if it you find it serves your needs. :)

I do very much appreciate GOTD programs and games but I think it should more accurately be named Game/Program extended trial of the day because most programs are useless once you have to reinstall your system or do a system restore or restore an image. If they are encryption or security software or backup software then you usually cannot undo or restore the backup or encryption once you have had to restore or reinstall your computer by the above mentioned methods as the date has passed and you cannot get the full version of the program unless you buy it. Many trials do not come with full functions.

I really wish GOTD would give us rather 1 software a week that we can have permanently than all the limited trials which we cannot reinstall ever again should we have to reinstall.

Magussoft: I hate the need for a password to continue a level. :( Therefore I don't enjoy/download/your games often.

Thanks whiterabbit aka Stephen for telling me there was a need for a password in this game. :)

I'd like a pacman game, but I'll pass. I'm skeptical of Magnus software so I'll need at least a 50% befcre trying another of their games (Plots...sheesh!).

Apart from some new levels and a few extra Mb of files, I couldn't really see any difference between this and the previous giveaway from Christmas Eve apart from maybe a slight improvement in game play (Oh yes and they have got rid of the Yeah Baby which although novel, became very annoying after awhile). the monsters seemed to run free as opposed to being trapped. I found the short time I played this (30 minutes) the game play was fun and challenging.

When I went to install the game it actually tried to overwrite the first one, so if you like these games I would ensure that you change the installation path during the setup otherwise you may lose the earlier game. (Though there is the possibility that the levels may be combined during installation). If you wish to skip the short introductory movie, just press the Esc key :)

Please see my comment #2 from Monday for details of the game:

http://game.giveawayoftheday.com/packs-adventures/#comments

I felt it had the same problem with controls as the first. That plus the method of saving your games by password spoils this game for me, though Ghost of GGAOTD past comment #25 does explain how to find these by going into the pac.ini file using notepad.

If anyone has the time to search out the levels editor, which seems to be available because the options menu does give you the option of playing your own custom made levels.

After watching the kids play the game on Christmas Eve I actually found the game enjoyable to play despite the overwhelming thumbs down by the majority of the community and I don't even like Pacman games generally. I will be keeping this for those odd moments when I feel like playing a packman clone. Despite the negative thumbs down I go for a positive thumb up and give this game 6.5 out of 10 (which is an improvement on my previous score of 6).

Thank you Magnussoft and the game giveaway team for your usual generosity. I do hope everyone is having a great Christmas break. :)

The following is another low end graphics game, but thanks to Bill who emailed me with the link I've discovered another reasonable visual treat that’s freeware. I've always been into colorful games such as Bullet Candy that was given away about a year ago. If anyone remembers that one and liked it, this game called 'Spheres of Chaos' will be enjoyable as well. If all you like is present day graphics don’t bother checking out the link:

http://www.spheresofchaos.com/index.php

Thanks again Bill, I appreciate the heads up on this game. It has a raw appeal that attracted me to the game immediately. I'll be keeping an eye out for his updated version. :)

A Pac-man clone that has a download of nearly 29 MB and it looks crappy.

Asking 3 Euro for it is at least not as silly as asking 20 USD but nonetheless it's still highly overpriced. The way it looks and the lack of originality means that instead of charging they should be offering money for using up your time and trouble.

Perhaps someone should tell Magnus as well as the creator of the 'game' that no matter how they call it Pac - Pack - Pak - etc... the entire concept has been flogged to death. Time to move on. Perhaps even time to get out of the 80's and at least on to the next decade if not the next century.
