Sorry i`m so late in posting my comments but I lead a busy life. Aside from the comments from Whiterabbits that I concur with, I experienced one problem . The game would stay up and running for 2 or 3 minutes and then minimize to an icon on the bottom of my screen. I`d click the icon and it would come back again. That being said I`m not sure if this was a problem due to my computer settings or a glitch in the game. The game was installed in Windows 7. Thank you for this game. Very captivating!

Definite thumbs up! The art is fantastic, and the story really grabs your attention. Mixing things up between several different puzzle types works very nicely, and the mystery is compelling enough to have my wife tell me that it's time to shut down for bed.

It would be cool if you could expand this type of multi-puzzle game into other genres. This one is captivating but too creepy for children. Understood that they're not the audience for this - but they could greatly benefit from this kind of problem-solving game where one needs to think of things not immediately at hand to get through and get something done. I'd love to see a children's version of this, as well done graphically and with as well-directed a storyline, that challenges children to think and solve problems the way this game makes you solve problems.

Great job!! Thanks so much, GGotD team and Playrix! Please keep up the fantastic work!

I loved this game. Maybe add more time between the hints that are provided by the amulet.

I have played several hundred hidden object games and I must say I enjoyed this game over most. The graphs were great, the games solvable and the help, hints and skip buttons gave every opportunity to solve.
I would love to see more games of this quality. The number of levels and I loved the portals.
Thanks you

This is a fab game -- just one small criticism: the font is hard to read. I spent too much time looking for a "Boo". I thought I was looking for a ghost. That's because the final "t" was virtually invisible.

@Yellowkid: I can't tell you where the problem exactly is, because your stack trace does not match my disassembly. If going to the closest function call, there shouldn't be any problems with parsing the date because CultureInfo is passed all the way down.

@Yelowkid: Looks like the .NET Framework is having trouble with your date format. It could possibly be a bug with the game not supplying the correct CultureInfo to the framework. For the time being, you can change your date and time format to something compatible.

1. Go to Control Panel
2. If you're using Category View, click Date, Time, Language, and Regional Options and then Change the format of numbers, dates, and times.
If you're in Classic View, double click on Regional and Language Options.
3. Click Customize..., then the Time tab, and change the Time Separator to ":".
4. Click OK, and then OK.
5. Try the game again.

Thanks for a super game - HOGs are my favourite and this was a HOG plus! It took me 4 days to finish and the only bits I didn't enjoy were the damn web untangling puzzles - but at least you had the option to skip them. 10 out of 10 for this one - more of the same please!!!

The graphics and colors in this game are great...and compared to competing games, the crispness of the graphics helps the play tremendously. The edges of even small objects are easily visible.

I also appreciate that there isn't a huge amount of voice-over acting; games that stop play frequently for the reading of additional "story" elements -- many of which aren't needed for game play -- drive me crazy. This game provides only necessary elements in the voice over, and a little bit of fun from that raven!

Thanks GameoftheDay.

Very good game!!! But I Have a problem, every time i leave the game, the next time the game won't start: after the complete loading the game return to desktop.
The game run only if I delete my profile on the folder located in \Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Mystery of Mortlake Mansion\Profiles.
In this way I have to start the game all over again.
There is a solution?
I'm curious to see the ending!!!
Thank you very much!!!

Nicely composed game. It was stimulating and really keeps you interested in the game. In the puzzle that you align the lines to where they do not intersect, I would suggest the nodes be just a hair larger. Aside from that it would be nice if the game were a tad longer, I completed it in a day. Perhaps considering a continuation of game play in levels, giving option to make the game harder by not being able to skip slightly harder puzzles. It would be nice for the map to display visibly without clicking to enlarge it.

Nice game! I've installed it on my laptop and played fine till yesterday. But today it won't start: the program loads, I can see the publisher's logo and the intro video but soon exits to desktop.

My laptop:
AMD Turion64x2 TL-56 1.8 GHz
RAM 2Gb
Videocard Nvidia GeForce Go 7300 512 Mb

Here's the log, as described by GMMan in http://game.giveawayoftheday.com/mystery-of-mortlake-mansion/#comment-272145:

If it helps any of the people having (potential) graphics card problems, the game runs very smoothly here on WinXP with an onboard Intel 82945G Chipset graphics adapter which has 128MB memory.

Very nice game - as always from Playrix - that sucked me in and didn't let me go until 01:00am.

I loved the "untangling of the spells" puzzles, and was very impressed with how the various puzzle types were used in an overall adventure. This is the first game in a long time that I was able to focus on the adventure and think of the puzzles as incidentals, rather than focus on the puzzles.

Thank you, GGOTD.

Thanks to GAOTD and Playrix for this wonderful game. Had no problem downloading and installing it on my Windows 7 64 bit netbook. I love the artwork. When a game is so beautiful to look at, you hope beyond hope that it also will be beautiful to play. And it really is. I have no complaints except that sooner or later the game will come to an end, and that will make me very sad. So thank you for making my weekend so enjoyable!

When I saw that today's giveaway was a HOG, I was so excited! It DL fine on my Win 7 x64. I started playing and only quit when I got stuck (about 3 hours later lol)! It's a great game. Good graphics, not so dark that you can't find stuff, good mini-games. Now if I could just figure out what to do now, I could finish the game!!
Thanks, GGoTD and Playrix for the game!!

Wow! Great game!
Stephen...I've been tired of HOGs too but I read in your post how you, "got so engrossed in this one", and that was all I had to hear, immediately got it and glad I did. I just wish they'd find something besides ghosts and magic junk to base the stories on for a change. This one has particularly good graphics, puzzles and things. Very well done....one of the best I've ever seen. Great! Thanks guys!

Zombies would be a good theme. The main stream and Indie games have been full of zombie games for the last few years, but I don't remember seeing a HOG based zombie game. Maybe I'm wrong as i have ignored the genre for some time.

As usual, I'll try just about anything from Playrix; they're almost always great. And this one is no exception: it's not "just" a HOG, it includes interesting puzzles, gives me time to figure them out, and plenty of hints if I don't. I haven't gotten far enough to comment on the story line, but so far, so good.

As for the long intro, just click the mouse to bypass it and go right to the play screen.

I think this game originally came from another developer: the first splash screen says "Stella Games," and the look is a bit different from most of the other Playrix games.

Once again, a big thank you to Whiterabbit, GOTD, and Playrix.

The introduction grabbed from the first; that alone sets the tone for the rest of the game. Further in, I love that you don't have to do things in an exact order and that the puzzles are intuitive - no need for a caption to explain what to do.

The adventure element is fairly obvious too. It's easy to tell what you can pick up & carry; when you run out of things to do in a room, going back to another & looking around again will put you back on track. It has the real element of being lost somewhere - you retrace your steps and notice an item you had no use for before.

The music is great and appropriate for the settings; the hidden object sections aren't at all similar and nothing is ridiculously tiny or blended. When I got to open a glass cabinet door in an HO section, that decided me - the game is win! Enticing and well-designed.

Quibbles:
1) The best voice actor is a talking bird with a bad attitude and more interesting dialogue than your playing character or the stuff of R's notes. In fact, the written thoughts of your character in the diary are a more realistic take on what you'd be thinking rather than the passive stuff "you" say in the voice overs. If those lines were swapped...
2) Replay value, as HO scenes and associated clues remain the same. (I created 3 diff. players to test this.)

Still going to enjoy each moment of this game I love the pace, the surprises and the story... but tomorrow... when I'm not so sleepy.

PS: Mr. Whiterabbit - I have a letter pending for you and a few stamps to enclose in it as well, when next I go into town. My post office never opens for the weekend.

Cheers all. :)

Hidden Object games are my personal favorite type of game. Having just finished this Mystery of Mortlake Mansion I can say it's one of the better ones. I enjoyed it!Thanks Playrix & GOTD.

#72,87, joe, I would run the DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer (use only Microsoft's website). It will install previous versions of DirectX which may not be present on your computer. If you can put cards in your computer, ATI or nVidia are better than Intel integrated graphics.

WR,

Looking at the system requirements I still think its the video card, mine has 64 MB and the SRs state 128MB. System is 2.20 GHz and RAM is 512 MB although Game Booster says I have 706MB RAM after it turns all the other stuff off for game play. DiagDX says 512 but everything is up when I run that one. Odd thing is I rarely have a problem running games, just this one and Elementals.

oh well, maybe I'll acquire a good luck fairy and find a new laptop dropped by my house some day; one can always dream!

You are probably right. I'd keep the game though for the reasons mentioned below (being free syanding you can always transfer it at a later date. :)

Nice game, working well on Win 7, graphics nice, did turn off all the sound. Was enjoying playing until I came across a bug in the game .... working in the Study, collected 3 of the 5 plates from the drawer and the puzzle stopped as if I collected them all when I hadn't. Now I'm stuck, I don't have all the pieces needed to complete the next puzzle and it won't even start to allow me to skip it. It's a shame, I enjoying the game but now can't go any further.

GMMan...tried your suggestion and got error msg

Windows cannot find 'bin\Startup.bin'.

For the other poster trying to help...I keep forgetting about the Win Key but I do use Ctrl Esc and Alt Tab keys depending on which program I am running. As a last resort there is always Ctrl Alt Del to get the task mgr to end a balky prog.
Am pretty much a mouse person especially for games since I lost my usb gamepad in the flood. Mousie is a godsend for those of us with constant visits from Uncle Arthur (arthritis}!
Am off to check the other links to see if anything else will help. Played the trial version online this afternoon and found things I missed. I WANT this game!

If you don't manage to get today's game working by the en of the giveaway, don't give up hope. Until we've solved the problem either way under no circumstances delete the game folder as it is free standing which means if we can find a cure later it should still be registered. Post your problem in the game discussion forums. Hopefully someone will be able to sort the problem out their. There is already a thread about this game (though referenced to MyPlayCity.

Excellent game with very good graphics and small challenges. Spent the day playing it to the end and enjoyed it very much. Unlike many HOGs most of the items were labeled well enought to find them.

RE: #72 joe,

Thank you for your response Stephen. I know it must seem strange to see that I just have problems here but it is true. I can download an use everything from GOTD. It is this game side that I have trouble with.

I am at a loss to figure it out. The new computer had a fresh install of Windows 7 . Only firewall and anti virus loaded. Nothing else in start up or running in background. To me that is what makes this even stranger. Can't be graphics or direct x on a new computer.

Anyway , thank you for always being sympathetic and trying to help.

Excellent game! It's a little misleading to call it a hidden-object game, as it has so many other puzzle types as well. I'd say, overall, you spend more time on the other types (collectively) as you do on HOG.

Usually, in this kind of game, the story line is superfluous and I generally ignore it, but this time I got somewhat caught up in it. In fact, my only suggestion is to modify the end a bit. The last few very-challenging Magic Web puzzles take so long to solve that they kind of break the suspense/momentum. I would suggest putting the hardest ones a little earlier and have moderate-difficulty ones at the very end.

The last challenge being a race-against-the-bad-guy is a nice touch.

I had the same problem as #21; game wouldn't open, not even with Game Booster. Tried GMMan's troubleshooting advice in comment #43. Game opened but was still extremely sluggish. Opened it using Game Booster, as per Whiterabbit's recommendation. Now opens and runs! Thank you gentlemen. :)

This is an intriguing and complex Hidden Object Game. Much more interesting than the usual "click on things from The List" variety. I usually play games that are more "linear" but I'm getting used to clicking on the map to look for "!" spots. The graphics are good, though I do find myself physically moving around to get a better view of different screen areas on the monitor. Some scenes are a bit too monochromatic for my eyesight. I like the many variations of mini-games. The story, though rather trite, is OK to move things along. The music is unobtrusive and the voices are fine in that they are infrequent. (Just FYI: I am female, but prefer the male voice.) Though Full Screen is best for most HOGs, I appreciate the ability to switch off (and access my desktop - as I am doing now). I would like to have the option of keeping my "regular" cursor (in any game). The "fancy" ones are "gittery" in some games, but this one seems fine; quite accurate and stable. The opening sequence, though beautiful, seems rather long on repeated re-entries. I appreciate the unlimited (I think - *hope* - they are UNlimited) hints with a quick re-charge. I would like to get all the way through this without accessing the walk-through... I don't think I could do that without the hints. THX.

This is a good brain-teaser and will keep me busy "wasting time" for many hours to come. Thank you to GGOTD, Playrix and Stella Games for a wonderful, "thinky" adventure. I hope we see more like this.

As always - Thank You, Whiterabbit, for detailed instructions and review information. Installs and plays well on Vista 64-bit.

I wanted to throw my vote of appreciation into the growing stack for Playrix. Until I started frequenting this site I had never heard of Playrix - probably because I'm not really that much of a "gamer" (unlike my son, who is heavy into first-person "shooter" RPG's, and my wife, who's constantly downloading free trials of various games from BigFish and other clearing-houses).

Be advised that you're contributing to my rapid decrease in personal productivity by offering so many quality distractions! (Yes, I like to blame other people for my own personal shortcomings...)

I assume that the file size, coupled with the number of people downloading it, is the reason you have your delivery server throttled back to such a slow delivery rate. The highest speed I was able to get was just under 80Kbps, which is agonizingly slow for a 167MB file (approx. 45 minutes!).

Still, based on everyone's recommendation it's worth it, and I can't wait to jump in and start playing!

Thanks for the feedback. On average (14 hours into the giveaway) there were around one download every 4 seconds. My own download took about 20 minutes a few days previously.

i forgot to mention that when i first tried to install, i got the error message about some process already being in use. quitting out of chrome solved that problem (i know, i know, it's good practice to quit out of other apps, but i have so many tabs open, it's a pain). the installation then went fine, but i had to reboot to get the game to launch. after that, all went AOK.

This game looked good, so i downloaded and installed. It lagged a bit (I’m always running such games in a virtual machine, so this happens frequently) but generally started out nicely.
A bit too easy for my taste (although i didn’t play really far, only to the bedroom upstairs), still quite a decent game.
Until I found a bug, making it impossible to continue. So I wanted to leave a

I’m not certain if i really want to redo everything from the beginning or just leave it...

There's now been over 15 thousand downloads; that's nearly 23 downloads every minute or one every 3 seconds (give or take a little) since the giveaway started 11 hours ago. Will it beat last weeks Mahjong that had over 21 000 downloads? :)

I think it'll just miss out.

For all of you having problems, please try my troubleshooting steps above: http://game.giveawayoftheday.com/mystery-of-mortlake-mansion/#comment-272145

Because the game is written in C#, there is a pretty clear stack trace and exception messages to help solve the problem.

Download took a while. Installed just fine on Vista Home Prem. Games special effect very nice! Played awhile ... still stuck in the Library! LOL!

Off Topic: I Can never find anything on the Forum!?! Is there "A Request" place on the Forum or Here to ask for various types of game? For example like Domino or Backgammon Games!

Thanks!

G!:)

I'll just add my two thumbs up for this one. I don't remember whether I got as a Big Fish or Amazon deal, but this is one of the games I played through until finishing over a couple of days- just like a novel you can't put down.
