Giveaway of the Day - Magic Maze

Magic Maze
February 17, 2013

Magic Maze drops you into a 3D dungeon with nothing but your trusty firearm and a nose for treasure. It’s up to you to explore the labyrinthine passages, sniffing out riches and mowing down the monsters that try to get in your way. Your skills will automatically upgrade as you progress through the 12 action-packed stages, allowing you to freeze monsters and unleash toxic gases that clear the way to the exit. Once you find the Three Gems on each level, you’ll be allowed to advance to the next level, only to find ever-greater challenges with each step forward!

The goal in each level of Magic Maze is to collect the Red, Green and Blue stones, which opens the exit. This is done by exploring the mazes, shooting any enemies that get in the way and collecting bonus items, which aid in combat and are used automatically. Since this is an action role-playing game, skill upgrades are also automatic.

  • Left-click where you want the hero to walk.
  • Right-click to aim and shoot an enemy or crate.

  1. Magic Maze:

      The Gold Goose

    In Brief:

A series of mazes with booty, skills, experience, gold and gems to collect, oh yeah and monsters and bosses to destroy.

Magic Maze downloads to a 31.1 MB zip file that unpacks to a read me and a wrapped setup activation file (the orange colored file with the key symbol), plus there’s a setup file with security (setup.gcd) that’s protected from being hacked. This file may cause some security software to alert the user to a possible malware attack, but it will be a false positive.

The game giveaway team check all game giveaways for malware using several well known anti -malware suites. There has never been a game giveaway infected with malware since the project started back in Dec 2006. The installed game is 29 MB in size and installs via the following path by default, but you can change it if you wish:

    C:\program files (x86)\Magic Maze\MagicMazeEn.exe

There is no desktop or Start Menu shortcuts installed; so, once the game is installed you will need to open up the folder and create a desktop shortcut. You can also place a shortcut in the Start Menu/Programs list, but the path is different for the various operating systems the community uses (eg XP, Vista, Win 7 and Win 8) I’ll leave those for you to find via google. :)

I’ve only tested the game on Win 7 as all my other computers ar eoffline at this time (apart from two other Win 7 computers), Anyone running Win 8, Vista or XP, please confirm whether this game works Thanks.

MyPlayCity Magic Maze is available free from MyPlayCity 24/7.

    The Game:

Magic Maze is a funny adventure of a cute cat looking for treasures hidden in the mazes labyrinth. There are loads of creatures and traps a waiting for him everywhere. Still, the cat is very sly and well-weaponed. The ionly enemies you may have difficulty with are the huge bosses. Magic Maze includes lots of levels with intriguing titles like “The Trap”, “Candy Land”, “The Glacier”, “Dangerous Heights” and it’s practically impossible not to become seduced! You’ve got a number of lives when you enter the game, and there is always a mission given to you – a number of stones – as well as the route! There is a magic map and you can trace where and how long you are going to follow the path and how many twists and turns are ahead! The Underground Labyrinth is full of surprises and gems – the cat and you look for them and gather the precious stuff. Don’t forget to shoot the rabbits and other creatures – they are no friends to you! And you should definitely destroy the wooden crates as there are bonus item hidden inside.

Every mission is all about magic chests and keys necessary to find, obstacles to overcome and miscellaneous monsters to defeat.

Victory over the enemy will give you bonus’s, for example, a key to open golden chests or become invulnerable for a set period of time, replenish your health and even get an additional life. Don’t leave the boxes and chests, but open up them all, some have optional skills that will help you.

The following skills are expressed as a percentage. You start the game with all skills at 0%.

    Bonus time
    Group Attacks
    Dodge Attacks
    Powerful Shot
    Fatal Blow
    Slow Monsters
    One Shot Kills
    Monster Freezes
    Experience Boost

The 12 locations include a closet, desert a glacier as well as others I’ll let you discover for yourselves. :)

To start the game you must first create a profile. there are three places, so this is good for a small family or group of friends who like to compete against each other. When starting the game proper you will first be taken through a brief tutorial that explains the various aspects of the game. To move the cat use the Left mouse button to direct its movement. The right mouse button allows the cat to attack. It’s worth reading all of the tutorial messages as it will give you a good grounding in the rules of the game. Basically it’s straightforward, kill as many enemies as possible, open up all treasure boxes (if possible and earn skills so that you are better equipped to win the boss battles. :)

You can change the music by swapping the music files via the following path. You will need to rename each file and convert them to the .ogg format, make sure you only select the files specific to music and not sound effects as there are all jumbled together.

    C:\program files (x86)\Magic Maze\data\sounds

A colorful 3D maze with 12 large mazes to complete. I found the game became a little tedious after the third maze as there was very little difference between the various monsters present. It was well presented, with a simple tutorial that introduced you to the game mechanics. I was hoping for something a little more challenging instead I found the game very easy, which would indicate that this may be a candidate for the kids. I’m not sure how happy most parents would be with the shooting aspect, but it is cartoon like.I found the music very annoying, so trurned it off. If I was scoring for an adult I’d give this a reasonable 6 out of 10. for a child maybe 7.5 out of 10.

    Gameplay – 7
    Graphics – 7
    Audio – 5
    Re-playability – 5
    Originality – 6

    Total = 6

If you are posting late in the day I would also suggest posting in the main giveaway forums in the game discussion section. If you’ve installed the game but it won’t work for some reason, it should still be registered, so someone may be able to help at another time. Unfortunately if your problem is actually installing it then once the giveaway period is over there’s nothing that can be done until the game is given away again (though that isn’t guaranteed).

If you have any problems installing or getting to work today’s game please go HERE for help. Alternatively It’s always worth checking out the free games sites as sometimes the games we get here are also available for free from them and as the installation process is slightly different between the giveaway version and the MPC version, it just may work.

MyPlayCity has the most games to choose from (over 800), so may have whatever giveaway we are getting (at least around 40% of the time). Today’s game ‘Magic Maze’ IS available from MyPlayCity , so, if you do have problems installing, or even downloading today’s game get it for free HERE 24/7 Please do remember though that games from these free sites do include toolbars and browser changes/home page changes, but so long as you uncheck the boxes during installation, they can be avoided. When closing a game from one of these sites your browser will be opened to the home page, but it is innocuous. Just6 click on the X and its closed with no after effects. :)

Games, Games, and yet more Games:

If you’re looking for something other than today’s game check the Didimatic site via THIS link for some brilliant deals. Also, Kotaku post the best deals from all of the major distributors HERE

e.g. Steam, Origin, Green Man Gaming, Gamersgate, GameFly, and NewEgg with console games included on amazon, Best Buy, Groupon and Rakuten

There are several deals available from Steam for example there’s 50% off Torchlight 2 (£7.49) and Castle Crashers (£4.99). Also, if you’ve previously purchased Cities XL 2011 or 2012 you can get 80% off the latest version Cities XL: Platinum. There’s 60 % off The amazing Spiderman (£9.99) , 80% off Serious Sam 3: BFE (though you can also get this as part of the newly released Indie Royale Valentines 2.0 Bundle for even less) or the Serious Sam complete pack for £13.99, 75% off Amnesia: The Dark Decent (£3.25),. There’s over 100 games on sale at the moment via Steam with deals ranging from 10% to 80%. The 24hr deal is presently SINE MORA a horizontal shoot Em Up with 66% off (£2.71). That will change at 6pm GMT. You can check the Dollar and Euro prices via the link to Didimatic above, or for a rough estimate for the dollar price just divide the UK price by 2 then multiply by 3 to get a rough estimate, though often the US price is cheaper than the UK price. . There’s also loads of deals from Gamersgate, Gamestop, Greenman Gaming and GOG; all of which you can find via the Didimatic site, which I’ve linked to above (apart from GreenMan Gaming (GMG), which you’ll find via the Kotaku link). Do check out GMG because they have some excellent deals; for example, you can get 20% off any digital download. Last weekend I managed to get the yet unreleased Ghost Sniper 2 (Steamworks version) for over 66% off from GMG because they had a 25% off token plus I’d got a £10 token for pre-ordering the latest Tomb Raider game. I used that towards the soon to be released sequel and only had to pay just over £8. Every pre-order has a decent deal on it compared to if you purchased directly from Steam or Origin. You’ll find the weekend deals HERE.

The usual monthly free game from Alawar’s game box is still Sprill. You may need to reinstall game box if its still showing the previous game (Finding Doggy). It’s supposed to change every month, but some community members are seeing the same game for months on end. Dido suggested that you reinstall game box to fix the problem. Reinstalling game box shouldn’t affect any previous freebies. :). (You need to install the free Gamebox from Alawar to access the free games, which for newcomers change approximately every month). If that’s not enough, check out the Game discussion forums HERE for details of any Indie Game Bundles that are still live. At the moment there’s at least three bundles still live (Indie Royale Valentines 2.0, Be Mine Anniversary bundle and the Indie Gala Colossus bundle. All three are well worth checking out, especially the Be Mine Anniversary bundle.

I’ve posted images and video of game play for most of these bundles over in the forums. Click on the Game discussion forums to find all of the active bundles easily.
These bundles give you the opportunity to get a lot of great games for almost nothing (the price of a cappuccino at your local coffee shop)

The latest game from IndieGameStand (they have a new indie game every four days) is 3079 a futuristic, open-world action first-person role playing game. You arrive on a planet experiencing constant war. It is your duty to find out why the warring factions cannot find peace on their own & hopefully restore it yourself. All areas, buildings, items, quests and characters are randomly generated. You can get the game for less than $1 or if you pay the average price (which stood at $1.24 the last time I looked you can get the extras that include:

    – 3079 Video Game guide

    – 3069 v3D.4

    – 3059 v36

Origin have a mystery sale on at the moment , with a new game every day and GreenManGaming have some excellent offers, with 70% off Euro Truck Simulator 2 (you get 50% off, plus you can use the 20% code for digital games. I got the game for £10 reduced from £24.99.

    A Request for help:

Developers rely on good feedback to improve their games. If you download this game please take some time once you’ve played it a while to leave some constructive feedback either positive or negative. The more constructive feedback we get, the more likely developers are going to give more games away. The giveaway site already has a very good standing with the search engines. Developers want their products out there on the WWW, this site has the potential to do that. The game giveaway project gives away on average between 9 to 17 thousand downloads for each game depending upon what genre and how obscure the game is. That’s a lot of homes these games are being downloaded into and a lot of ‘potential’ cash that’s being lost by the developers. If we get better games because of better feedback, the community are likely to continue to benefit from the generosity of the developers. Satisfied community members are then more likely to visit the home sites of those developers and purchase games that they may not have bothered with before they discovered the developer via the game giveaway site, thus giving the developers more incentives to give away even more decent games.

Please leave some feedback once you’ve checked the game out. It can be positive or negative, but please explain what your reasons were for the feedback you post. You could also leave suggestions for improving the game, for example, this game could do with more block types for the levels editor, add more power-ups, describing the ones you think would be suitable, add some mini games (which seem all the rage in some arcade games now) or enable the user to be able to change the in game music easily.

Thank you in advance to all those who take the time to post a constructive comment.
