I had, played, and liked this game in the past... however I am getting an Out of Range error now when I try to run it and this basically locks up my screen. Is there a way to fix this?

.......................Moderator comment...................

This problem is typically related to the graphics card, its drivers or the attached monitor. A common cause is the attachment of a new monitor that has a different resolution to that which Windows is trying to output through the graphics card Try changing the resolution of your monitor or updating your graphics drivers

Good game, but I think I have it from an earlier giveaway.

For those of you who are upset about your desktop icons layout getting shuffled due to such full-screen games or apps, I recommend this fabulous freeware app...

Stardock Fences:
www.stardock.com/products/fences/

It will help you to create your invisible/visible regions on your desktop, label them and drag-drop your desktop app/document icons to them. Viola, you have total control over your desktop now -- always!

Addendum to previous:

Either there is a bug in the software or just bad programming, but every once in a while when you throw away a few balls because you cannot use them, the game will not give you any more and the chain continues to the end.

Never mind Whiterabbit... I can answer myself:

According to Inca Ball comments (February 11, 2012),
this giveaway is also the same version of the game given away then (v1.0.1).

35.

What is the version number of this game??? It would be nice if
GGOTD and/or the developers made sure the version numbers are
listed on the Giveaway page as well.

I download the file twice. When I double click it I get that hte file is invalid. When I right click and select extract all, I get tehat the folder is empty.

.....................Moderator Comment.................

Hello Michelle,

Sounds like the download may have been interrupted by a drop out? If the file download is interrupted it can cause such problems. What sort of internet connection do you have? A friend of mine is always having that problem. He lives out in the sticks and uses a phone connection. The line is really bad and he's always getting that problem.

Not bad, but definitely no Zuma (by far the best of these type of games).

It is almost exactly like Luxor, you sit at the bottom of the screen and move horizontally. Most people who have played either of these two will not enjoy this one at all. Movement withing game is irradicate as compared to Zuma or Luxor. End points of trails are not clear and just when it seems you are done a level it starts over again. I have played (Zuma and then Luxor) for years and this game does not come close to either. Ball switching does not always work and is slow. Power-ups do not always work. It starts out at what seems to be a mid to high level, much too fast for the average person. (I personally can get through Zuma, Zuma II and Luxor on one man -- Yes I am that good ;) )

Overall the game installed well and seems to have decent graphics. But, alas I cannot recommend it to any fan of Zuma (or Luxor). Normally I would not comment on the games given away here, but this time I feel that this game is a cheap immatation trying to profit off the tails of Zuma (and Luxor).

Regards bg

Wow! I missed that. Thanks for letting the community know. I'll make a note in my review, otherwise some users probably won't bother to download because it was only given away this February gone.

Game downloaded and installed with no problems. It has great graphics. Not sure on the music as I have sound muted. The game play is fun and keeps you wanting to play, or it did for me anyways. It does start out quick and stays that way. I think that having the game start off that way does make it a bit more fun. Thanks for the great game.

Stupid Norton will not let me install this program!

...........................Moderator Comment....................

The setup.gcd file is a security file that Norton is picking up as a threat because it uses Themida. You should be able to configure Norton to allow the program and games from this site to install on you computer. There is another way, but many community members are not happy with that particular suggestion. i.e. turn off Norton temporarily until you've installed the game. Once installed delete the setup files and then turn Norton back on. All giveaways have been thoroughly checked for Malware using several different malware suites. There has never been a giveaway infected since the project started back in 2006.

No surprise that todays offering will not install on my pc just as the last 2 weeks have not installed. The "successfully activated" box pops up but the software does not install. Also have the same problem with giveaway of the day software offerings. Has worked for the past 2 years that I have been downloading and installing from this site, but has seemed to stop working with the upgrade of the software key wrapper 2.0. I have disabled all security software I have installed (NIS 2013, Zemana Key Logger, anti-malware software) but still the same situation. Guess the days of giveaway of the day and this site are apparently over for me.

.........................Moderator Comment..........................

Only a few users out of thousands seem to be having this problem. (there's often over 10 thousand downloads in any one day over on the applications side of the project). It's got to be the way your computer is set up or maybe your router is blocking the site for some reason. Have you checked with your provider? They may be able to shed some light on the problem. Immediately after attempting to install a giveaway check your even logs to see if there are any error messages that may indicate what the problem is.

Also check over in the game discussion forums and see if there's any fixes in the FAQ's post (see the sticky section at the top of the game discussion forums).

I'd also post a comment about 5this in the forums. Maybe one of the regulars may be able to suggest other fixes. There are several regular that seem to be very knowledgeable w.r.t. computing.

As I'm a huge fan of the Luxor games, I decided to give this one a shot. I wasn't disappointed. Though I like Luxor's graphics better, this is more challenging, thus fun for me. It's a fast paced game so if you haven't played this type of things before you might be frustrated but if you like such a thing, i found it a bit more of a challenge than the Luxor games. I've spent the last couple hours playing it and have had a great time.

Overall, installation was no issue (working on XPSP3) graphics run fine, no glitches in the play and the game is fun. Thumbs up from me!

.....................Moderator Comment...................

I agree with you on both counts re the better graphics w.r.t. the Luxor series and that this game tends to be harder, especially as you get deeper into the game. Thank you for your feedback

This is what happens when I try to run the setup. I downloaded it 5 different times.

"the setup files are corrupted . please obtain another copy of the program."

Hello Jack,

This is one of the more popular tiles given away. There's been over 60 000 downloads over the six times its been given away and I can't remember anyone else having this problem with this game. Did you read my review above (comment number 1). There are a few things to try:

1) ... If you are using Firefox make sure I.E. isn't turned to offline

2) ... Clear out your internet cache (sometimes the giveaway cookie gets corrupted and can lead to this problem

3) ... Reboot your modem

4) ... Download one of the free file archivers that I've linked to in the FAQ's section which you'll find in the Game Discussion forums (in the sticky section). I've had similar problems when downloading games where the file archiver I was using for some reason wouldn't open the game. I found that using a different one worked.

Thanks for a fun game. When it initially launched after download I had 2 cursors. The game cursor and the cursor that usually shows when typing in Word. They were offset and when I tried to click to start the game, it closed itself. On restart, everything seemed to work fine except for a delay after clicking a choice. Gameplay itself seems to be fine. I thought I had this game in my aresenal as the screen shots looked very famiiar. I checked my Bigfish account and my Game giveaway folder and didn't see it so went ahead and downloaded it. Upon starting the game, some of it seemed new.

This is absolutely awesome, highly addictive and one of the most capivating ball games ever.
This one is a serious challenge, and to get through all the levels is almost impossible, but if you do you must be at professional standard.
I would really like to see world champions and I can see how this can be possible with this fantastic game.
Full credit to the makers and a great deal of appreciation and thanks to everyone concerned in giving us the privilage of bringing it to us.

I didn't download this because I've owned it for years, just wanted to put in my $.02. This is probably one of the best--if not the best--Zuma-type games I've ever played. I like the way the player can buy power-ups and extra lives between levels; some of the later levels can be pretty hairy so those extra lives come in handy! A warning to new players: this game has a twist. If you right-click too often to change colors, the game just might decide to take your Inca balls away, and there you sit while you helplessly lose the level. It's not predictable, so about the time you're congratulating yourself on FINALLY beating it, you lose. Fustrating, but it adds to the fun and challenge.

.................................Moderator Comment..........................

If you like this because of the power ups try the third Luxor game or Luxor: Quest for the Afterlife. both games are brilliant. They have power ups similar to today's game which you can upgrade via a shop using coins that you collect during each level. You pick up coins when creating combinations and destroying large numbers of marbles as well as hitting scarabs or chests that occasionally appear, the more coins you collect (as they drop from the arena the quicker you can upgrade your power ups) Plus the graphics and story add to the overall experience. As you progress you uncover special attributes such as the eye of Horus that enables you to see where other hidden treasures can be found. you travel across ancient Egypt on a map collection those treasures, with cities divided by several levels.

Unfortunately I couldn't find any free versions. You can try a demo of either via the following links:

Luxor 3:

Luxor: Quest for the Afterlife (30% off today only)

http://www.bigfishgames.com/download-games/4356/luxor-quest-for-the-afterlife/index.html

you can also get both games via Steam with 66% off:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/16040/?snr=1_7_suggest__13

http://store.steampowered.com/app/15930/?snr=1_7_suggest__13

You can get all eight Luxor titles for an amazing £8.49 while the steam sale is on. That includes 7 marble poppers all witht heir own character (the latest called Luxor Evolved is an amazing cacophony of neon color) plus one mahjong game:

I really liked this game years ago when I tried it for the first time but that was before I switched my mouse buttons for lefties. I was saddened to see that the mouse is hard-coded for right-handed people so it is not one I would keep. But thanks to Playrix for giving all the game players that play right-handed a great free game!

Ok Win 8 x64 Pro. Full screen, slider options. Maybe just me but seems to play more 'fair'. Got a few levels into in so could buy some helpful options. Don't be afraid to lose a run or two since extra lives to occur within some runs as a bonus along with regular bonuses to catch. Helps a lot to keep going when trail gets more twisty - twists offer less chance to snag a long ball chain unless have a load of multi-color balls saved up. Thanks for a fun fave.

This was offered once before and has become one of my favorite "go to" games. I have played it over and over and always try to increase my score while using less power-ups. I get a little frustrated with certain levels but manage to get through them. Thanks for offering this again because I got a new computer! I missed playing it.

Installation was twitchy as well for me (Win7 Home Premium 64-bit), like [3]. Keyboard wouldn't allow typing, flashing and unresponsive. Alt-Tab eventually responded after a minute or so, clicked on the game icon tab and went back in. It finally allowed me to enter the name and I immediately switched it to windowed mode. I can't stress enough these constant issues when first installing a game that gets automatically installed with full screen. It can't be just me...

Hi FlamingoNut

It may be the way your computer is set up? Only a tiny percentage of the community bother to comment and out of those that do only two community members have mentioned this prolem (usually only 0.0% of the community bother to comment unless there is an obvious problem, then the number who post increases almost exponentially). Check the FAQ's section to see if there are any fixes. Maybe you need to update your drivers or defregment you drive (a badly defragmented drive can casue problems).

I downloaded the Gamebox from Alawar and the free game on it was Find Doggy. I wanted The Curse Of Montezuma, Drat!! Oh, well, maybe the free games are different in different parts of the country??!!
Thanks again for today's game!

I really like this game and play it regularly. It's definitely a keeper for me. Downloaded it years back. The only thing I like to improve is that when you have finished a level and come to the view where you can choose the power-ups and go to the next level, you can also choose to go directly to the main menu view and exit (MENU button is unaccessible). Now you have to choose Next level first and wait for the level to start to be able to exit via the Menu button.
Thanks.

.........................Moderator Comment......................

Thank you for your feedback Merlyne, I agree. seems odd that the main menu button is greyed out at the end of a level. At least you can access it during game play. :)

If you like games with a quick pace, this is it. Just when you figure you're done, another set of balls come flying out of the shoot. You're given a decent amount of cash to buy powerups from the start, and I suggest you do that. Make sure to catch the falling powerups with your paddle. The one page instructions are pretty comprehensive. A second page explaining the powerups might have been nice. Thanks to gamegiveaway and the publishers for affording us the opportunity to try out all of these wonderful games.

Scrap! You can not get back from game from into main Menu (button in place, but hasn't a function). Either you belong to the idiots who play through such a game in one or you break it (unsaved) from the Windows console.

.........................Moderator Comment......................

Bianca, why be so denegratory of other community members by calling them idiots. We all have different ideas as to what a good game is, broken or not. The game plays fine for me.

You can return to the main menu, but only during a game. The main menu is greyed out at the end of a level. Once back in a level you can return to the main menu and end the game. On restarting you are asked whether you want to start from where you left off previously or start a new game.

There are many different programs to solve your problem, Corno, but the best one I know is called DesktopOK. It restores the position of your desktop icons in case they get messed up by varying resolutions. It’s freeware and you can download it here: http://www.softwareok.com/?seite=Freeware/DesktopOK
I don’t know if it is the software you were thinking of, whiterabbit, because there’s a lot of others like DeskSave and they all do quite a good job.

I've had this game before, and never managed to get past the first level (it's a little fast-paced for me). But this time, thanks to Rabbit's detailed review and instructions (and actually reading the in-game help!), I got to Level 3 before (almost) running out of lives. The powerups help, but may not be enough to get me through all the levels. I guess I'd like the option to slow it down a little bit. I know, that'd bore most of you silly, but if it were an option, you wouldn't have to take it...

The fact that it's a Playrix game helped decide me to give it another go. It's got their trademark lush & gorgeous graphics, so at least I have a beautiful atmosphere to die in! (repeatedly)

Nice marble popper, which I had installed on various PC's in the past, only to uninstall it on all of them. The reason for uninstalling was that playing the game in full windows mode screwed up the arrangement and size of desktop icons. If that has been fixed I will install it again, if not, good luck to everybody.

.....................Moderator comment.................

Hi Corno there is a freeware program that you can instal that can fix that problem. I can't remember the name of the program, but hopefully someone from the community will be able to. Also try going into compatibility mode and making sure that desktop composition hasn't been checked.

I don't get that problem with the game. Maybe there's an underlying problem?

Installed okay, activated and all, but when I ran it I was unable to enter any text in the player name area, and it seemed all the controls and buttons froze. ESC didn't work, even CTRL-ALT-DEL didn't work for several minutes... and then it did and I terminated the program at that point.

.........................Moderator comment.......................

Open up task manager and check to see how much free RAM you have. sounds like you may be running too many background programs. There are free programs such as Game booster that enable you to automatically turn off all unnecessary background programs while running a game, then switch them back on at the touch of a button. I believe the latest version of Game Booster is no longer free, but you should still be able to get earlier versions online. It works really well and has a small RAM requirement itself. Generally it can free up around 40% of your RAM.

Razer also have their own version of Game Booster which is free to previous customers. (not sure whether you can get it free if you've never purchased a razer product (mice, keyboards, peripherals)

 Check the FAQ's section for other possible fixes (I've linked to it in the problems section of my review). :D

For those who haven't had the opportunity to download this game over the past 5 years (it's been offered here every year) by alle means give it a try. Maybe it is not appealing to all at first glance but it is quite addictive :-D

In Brief:

Inca Ball is a reasonable ball popper game on the lines of the Zuma and Luxor series, with loads of power ups to keep the game interesting. What I like about this game compared to the likes of Zuma and others of this ilk (Luxor and a few others excepted because they have a similar upgrade system) is the ability to purchase nine different power ups that can help you out of sticky situations. If you haven't got this from a previous giveaway, then I recommend getting it now. It's a great family game that can be played any time.

Download & Installation:

In the unlikely event that you get any activity from your anti-malware programs it may be because while installing this software, the activation module phones home to the giveaway site to confirm activation (not sure of the exact process); this may set off some overly sensitive anti-malware programs. Please ensure you've thoroughly checked the game before reporting that it has malware because this may put off other users from downloading the program as any mention of virus immediately halves the download numbers on this site.

The site has been up since the 2nd Dec 2006 and there has never been any malware ever downloaded with any game given away, though there has been many users reporting false positives, that have been proven to be nothing more than poorly set up anti-malware programs.

The game installs to the following path by default, but can be changed during the installation wizard. The C drive may be different depending upon if you have more than one hard drive installed and whether your OS is installed to the C drive or a different one like mine (which is the F drive, though I always change it to my G drive which is where I prefer to keep all of my games):

The downloaded zip file is 23.1 MB in size and unpacks to a read me, setup.gcd security file and a dual activation and set up module. The game installs to:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Playrix Entertainment\Inca Ball on 64 bit

C:\Program Files\Playrix Entertainment\Inca Ball on 32 bit

There is a shortcut installed to both the desktop and the start menu/programs list; you'll also find an uninstaller in the Start Menu/Programs folder and a link to Playrixs' site. Look for Playrix Entertainment in your Start Menu/Programs list. The installed game takes up 52.7Mb of disk space. The game works on all my platforms (Win XP Pro 32 bit, Vista Home Premium 64 bit, Vista Home Basic 32 bit, Win 7 Pro 64 bit and Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit).

PicDepict.com

Just a note to newcomers, when the game has been installed you'll get a pop up asking if you want a shortcut to the game giveawayoftheday placed in your favourites/bookmarks, this is quite innocuous, however beware of the Install software Informer button that's to the left of the install bookmark button. The program (Software informer) isn't ad-ware, it's actually quite a useful program that informs you about updates to programs you have installed on your computer, but many users don't like the program, so I thought it prudent to warn you, just in case you end up accidentally clicking on the button and installing the program. You can also set up a Firefox permatab from this window.

The Game:

PicDepict.com

The main menu contains a help file that gives you an animated run through of the various aspects of the game. This help page also appears when you first start the game. You start with 60 000 credits which you can use to purchase several of the power ups that are available. At the start of the game there are only three of these out of a total of nine available. The bomb ball costs 10 000, the chain bomb costs 20 000 and an extra life costs 40 000. Other power ups include Rain (15 000), lightning (20 000), Trident (25 000), Fireball (30 000), Firewave (30 000) and Inca Ball (40 000). These are unlocked as you progress through the levels. I think the first one is unlocked after level 4 or 5. Any power ups that you purchase are accessible from the bottom of the playing arena. You just click on the one you want to use before you shoot your next marble.

PicDepict.com

There are 60 levels available in game, each level having a different layout. The aim of the game is to destroy all the rows of marbles that are slowly moving towards a tunnel. You get successive waves of these marble ‘trains’. If you are slow to destroy any row you’ll find the next row catching up. There are several power ups that appear when you destroy marbles such as a reverse flow power up or a targeting marble. Other power ups include the stop power up, the slow down power up and the color bomb power up.

If any marbles enter the end tunnel you lose one of your three lives. However buying a new life is relatively cheap when you see how many credits you can earn from each level. So it should be fairly easy, even for a novice at this game to complete the whole 60 levels.

Conclusion:

Inca Ball is a decent ball popper on the lines of Zuma, with loads of power ups to keep the game interesting. What I like about this game compared to the likes of Zuma and others of this ilk (Luxor and a few others excepted because they have some excellent power ups that are upgradeable) is the ability to purchase nine different power ups that can help you out of sticky situations for example If the row of marble is about to enter the final tunnel you can use one of your purchased power ups such as the chain bomb or bomb ball to destroy those marbles by clicking on the one you want (from the bottom of the arena). There are also more power ups that appear after destroying particular combinations of marbles. (Great stuff). As you would expect from any arcade game, the difficulty gets a little harder as you progress.

I’d give this a good 7.5 out of 10 for re-playability and family fun.

Scoring:

Download and installation – 10
Registration process – 10
Graphic Appearance in Game – 8 +4
Audio – 7
Game Play – 8 + 8
Replayability – 8 + 6
Originality – 6

Total score out of 100 = 75 which equals 7.5 out of 10

I've given Game Play and Re-Playability extra marks because I feel they are more important than most of the other categories. You can thank Mr Snoozles for the various categories. :)

If today's game doesn't take your fancy then check out the game discussion forums and the free games synopsis. We’ve posted a couple of thousand free games over the last four years, many of which are excellent alternatives to their commercial cousins.

The Steam Thanksgiving sale is on until Monday, with 48hr sales, flash sales that last around 10 hours plus loads more on sale. Well worth checking out. You can find the sale HERE.

Check out Gamersgates offers. They are having great reductions on four games every day until January. you can find the Gamersgate site HERE and Desura

I've also posted several links to sites where you'll find loads of decent game deals. Just look in the Game Discussion sticky section for the thread.

This months Alawar game is still The Curse of Montezuma (despite being on for six weeks - hopefully they will change it for another soon). for those that are new to the game giveaway project you will need Alawar's free game box to be able to download their free monthly game. this months is an excellent match three. You can download the game box HERE.

Oh yeah, nearly forgot, you can see all of the live indie bundles that are available HERE . They don't update it every day (Indie Gala X is showing as still live, but that ended a few days ago), still it'll give you an idea as to what's still available. alternatively you can visit the giveawayoftheday Game discussion forums as all bundles are detailed there as well.

Also check out the latest game available on IndieGame stand HERE. You can pay as much as you want but no less than $1. The present game has just changed to Aztaka, which is an RPG. There are several $5 bundles available from the Indie bundle site HERE, each bundle has three games. There's quite a few decent deals over on Desura HERE

You'll find details of all the bundles still available over in the first two pages of the game discussion forums as well as several of the main game distributors that seem to have permanent sales HERE

Problems:

If you have any problems with the game, either installation issues or getting the game to work check out the FAQ's section over in the Game discussion forums. you can find it HERE

If you are posting requests for help late in the day I would suggest posting in the main giveaway forums in the game Game Discussion . If you’ve installed the game but it won’t work for some reason, it should still be registered, so someone may be able to help at another time. Unfortunately if your problem is actually installing it then once the giveaway period is over there’s nothing that can be done until the game is given away again (though that isn’t guaranteed). It’s always worth checking out the free games sites as sometimes the games we get here are also available for free from them as well.

Request for Help:

Developers rely on good feedback to improve their games. If you download this game please take some time once you’ve played it a while to leave some constructive feedback either positive or negative. The more constructive feedback we get, the more likely developers are going to give more games away. The giveaway site already has a very good standing with the search engines. Developers want their products out there on the WWW, this site has the potential to do that. The game giveaway project gives away on average between 9 to 17 thousand downloads for each game depending upon what genre and how obscure the game is. That’s a lot of homes these games are being downloaded into and a lot of 'potential' cash that’s being lost by the developers. If we get better games because of better feedback, the community are likely to continue to benefit from the generosity of the developers. Satisfied community members are then more likely to visit the home sites of those developers and purchase games that they may not have bothered with before they discovered the developer via the game giveaway site, thus giving the developers more incentives to give away even more decent games.

Please leave some feedback once you’ve checked the game out. It can be positive or negative, but please explain what your reasons were for the feedback you post. You could also leave suggestions for improving the game, for example, this game could do with more block types for the levels editor, add more power-ups, describing the ones you think would be suitable, add some mini games (which seem all the rage in some arcade games now) or enable the user to be able to change the in game music easily.

Thank you in advance to all those who take the time to post a constructive comment.

Regards

Whiterabbit aka Stephen
