In Brief
House of 1000 Doors: Evil Inside was given away on September 26th last year where it garnered a 89% positive rating from 28 votes with 17 comments. We've previously had two other games from this series i.e. Family Secrets and The Palm of Zoroaster.

You can see all the previous comments and my first review via the following link:

Key features (according to the distributor):

• Captivating character
• An edge-of-your-seat story
• Simple gameplay
• Decent artwork and animation
• Challenging achievements
• Bonus content.

The Game:
The fan-favourite House of 1000 Doors series is back! But this time, it is developed by Alawar and Logris Games, rather than its original developer, Five-BN Games. A strange meteorite has crashed into a small town, spreading a deadly virus and infected everything in the town, including the House of Lancaster, Now that the House has let Emily, the last relative in, help her use her special power to bring back the peace.

With the switch in development team, we did not expect things to remain the same with this fourth instalment. Unfortunately or not, we are right! Although Evil Inside still has the same gameplay structure as the previous three games, as well as the same portal-travelling concept. It is irrefutable that the series has lost its charm.

Instead of exploring the house as the title of the game might have suggested, Evil Inside has you travelling from here to there through countless fantasy locations. We kind of missed the realism aspect that was so well done in the previous instalments, Evil Inside ended up being just another dark fantasy HOPA game.

Nonetheless, the game is still pretty entertaining. The gameplay does feel a little clunky, but it is definitely well put together, The hidden object scenes are not very frequent, they are not terribly difficult nor dead easy – many of them featured some cool interactions as well. The puzzles are not bad, although they could have benefited from some more creativity and a higher level of challenge.

We hold nothing against the artwork; each and every single scenes looks stunning on our screen, with amazing colours and suitable lighting. At the same time, we do feel that the animations and the scene transitions are not as smooth as we liked them to be – these lead to the slightly clunky gameplay we mentioned before. As for the music, the soundtracks are great and play softly in the background. The voice overs are fine, nothing special.

Despite all the flaws, Evil Inside has an impressive length! It took us over five hours to finish the main game, plus an hour of bonus gameplay. Other extras include wallpapers, achievements, making of, cutscenes, soundtracks, concept art and collectibles that are well blended into the scenes

I have been unable to download most programs from this site for a while now as my anti-virus warns me each time. It makes me sad as I have been a member of this site for years and years. It must have changed ownership and the new owner wants to put tracking into our computers.

Lynne FitzGerald,

Hi Lynne,
There has been no change of ownership and downloads are treated exactly the same as they have been for years. There's no tracking installed with your games. any low level adware is confined completely within the games.

The adware used only redirects your browser to the distributors site, where they earn money due to the advertising. Part of this is given to the developers of the games for allowing them to be given away free.

Games from Toomky and MyPlayCity games do have low level adware, that is not injected into your system. Windows updates are the most likely culprit blocking these games. You should be able to while list the games with your security, or alternatively reboot in safe mode with networking, download and install the game then reboot as normal.

If you continue to have problems be do let me know.

Doesn't work on my Win XP SP3. Gives "not a valid win 32 application" when I try and run it. Usually means it's not XP compatible, but may be just my setup. Oh well. In any case, thanks GGOTD and Toomky. May be able to convert this to Linux soon, then will be able to test them with WINE pseudo-emulator or a Windows emulator. Life marches on.

Also appears my graphics are too old for it, anyway. Can't support the Shader function in the game. Which is probably a good thing for other users here. Shows it isn't TOO ancient. May work on XP and just giving me the "not valid" message when I hit the executable. When I hit the game, I get the can't support the shaders message. Just a followup fyi.

Played this game only a short while ago. Something new, please.
Good game anyway.

Lawrence Carter, this is one of the best Hidden Object games that you will play period although I would admit that some themes of these kinds of games will get repetitive over time. On a side note, they have RPG Maker on Steam which allows you to make your own role playing games, I wish they would have a hidden object maker that would allow people to make their own hidden object games as well. It's something that should be thought of by developers of these games. But hey if you make your own game maybe you won't buy them anymore :)

Michael, I used to use AVG Antivirus but found it blocked the games that I tried to install. I got rid of it and used Microsoft Security Antivirus instead. But the other day there was a rare instance where it did not let me install a certain game and got a warning that it was infected. I know these are false positives but I'd rather not spend hour re-imaging a computer from a factory default.

The game downloaded and ran ok on windows 11. I selected the easy difficulty it had got the choice of other difficulties as well. I have enjoyed playing the game so far and enjoy the mini games. I will definitely keep this.

It's a decent HO game overall but I strongly suggest playing the tutorial scene before venturing onto the main game. Also I've noticed some mini games are vague about how they work especially the one at the beginning of the game. I did not understand how to operate the puzzle so I waited for the skip button to fill up and finally was able to get the item I needed.

Also found the dialog funny in regards to the cat at the beginning of the game if you click on the cat at the beginning scenes once inside the house. And the involvement of the raven and the horn to get an item you need.... Can you say scared silly?

The game is about a gigabyte after the unpacking of the game is done by the installer. Those who have slower internet connections may have difficulty downloading this game within a reasonable amount of time, especially those on Satellite connections or those who have a measured amount of data on their internet connection.

I'm one of those people (have Xfinity) who has a 1.2 Terabyte data cap and every megabyte counts in a sense. However in my household only 350 gb average is used each month

I got this game on a previous giveaway. Unfortunately, it lacks a built-in walkthrough. The hint system works great until about the middle of the game, but then it sometimes misdirects. I couldn't beat this game without a walkthrough found on the internet.

And I'm tired of going to some remote location to apply the found objects.
