I ran it on Vista Ultimate (x32) and had no problems at all... it might be a setting on your machine specifically.

Well I tried this one again and it still crashes all the time on my Vista machine :( I got rid of it last time because of this. I have it in compat mode for XP SP2 right now - gonna try 98 or 95 and see if that helps.

I agree with many others - this is a good shooter, difficulty is highe than expected but it is good! It is NOT worth $30 though...maybe $10. How do people expect to get $30 for small games like this?

I've tried the game mainly for the awesome Machinae Supremacy ost that I found on the band site, now i fall in love for Jets'n'Guns and i think i'll buy the gold version soon!

Note the 'from what I can see' part. I only played the game for 20 minutes, and I state that clearly in my review. This is my view of the game based on that experience. If I were to even attempt completing the entire game (and I'll give it one thing - this is no DoubleGames release, finishing it would probably take a good deal longer then 20 minutes).

The purpose of the review was/is to give my impressions of the game while playing it as an average person would (in my opinion). I don't know about you, but I don't just sit down and play all day, every day, so I can decide if I LIKE a game. No, it's the games that really pull my attention in that I enjoy playing (some examples of these from GGAOTD were the aforementioned Star Blaze, AirXonix, and Immortal Defense, which I also did a review for).

FYI - The kind publishers will let you upgrade your GGOTD version to Gold for the $9.95 price. Well worth it for a great game! Thanks GGOTD!

Downloaded yesterday, but i was unable to install it. GGAOTD setup wrapper showed it's window and that's all it managed to in 15 minutes...

Don't even pretend you can write a decent review about the game. There are plenty of things you still haven't discovered or tried out.

There are available hull upgrades, shields, coolers, etc. Different weapons handle differently and max speed for a weapon does not necessarily equal the max speed of another. Please, do TRY to finish the game and explore all options before attempting to write a review.

Pfiuuh.. in last minutes i reach to catch this game ! Many time i've report this shoot games including the music of the Machinae Supremacy !!!! The game is not a HIT, maybe just due to no so catching graphism.. anyway the music rocks ! so just for that i will need to catch it ;)

#58 not sure what operating system or firewall you have so it's harder to help...but I got this error in Vista while using Vista Firewall control and I had to give Setup.exe permission for two way communication in that software to get rid of the error and install it...so Look in your firewall again and make sure it has permission.

Just keep trying Mikael. Depending upon your internet connection ie cable, satellite, wireless etc, this sometimes happens with me I'm on a 2Mb broadband cable connection with a wireless router from the modem

It definitely sounds like it's something on your computer. Try turning off the firewall temporarily.

Download this game people - no matter how long it takes, it's worth it. GOTD is giving it to you, so use the bandwidth you've got and download it. You won't regret it.

I have a 7 month old HP media center and really wanted to try this game oput but I've tried downloading it 8 times now and I get the 1st message if I want to download or save the file and I click to download it and all it does then is just try to connect but doesn't ever connect to download it?I have no idea what's up?Anyone else have this problem?

Well I got it downloaded, wow that was a trip. I can't say that I liked the game. Maybe it is just the type of shooting game that I don't like. It was monotonous and boring. But thanks for the try, I always like to try new things.

Fantastic! My son now has a PC and he can stop using mine now I can download to his! I downloaded this originally and have "clocked" it 6 times (score 107,570,961) and reached "God "status after 3! The best shoot 'em up game ever! the Graphics are good and since I have just noticed #4 comments I have finally found a use for the Gamepad I got with my PC 4 years ago! Keep up the good work GGAOTD

@56- you can use this console for cheats. I remember 3, but you can just look for them on any good cheat website: power_to_the_people 1, arnold_for_president 1, and keep_cool 1 (yes, the underscores are required. To disable them, just type the cheat and instead of a space then a 1, do a space then a 0). I would recommend just beating the game naturally first though.

Congrats to everyone who has high-speed connects as this game got great reviews last time it was offered. The Screen shots are awesome.
I just wish there was some way to split these up for us dial-up users (and before anyone goes off saying "UPGRADE! Get BBAND or DSL!" there ARE still places where neither of those are available, me being in one). I would love to have this game but it would be an 8 hour+ download for me.

I simply cannot understand how someone could give this game a thumbs down. People who give titles like Jets n' Guns a thumbs down are asking for it - before long we'll be getting DoubleGames again because people don't know quality when they see/hear/experience it. It's sad really.

Obviously I give this game a thumbs up. Probably the best title GGOTD has ever offered, AND IT'S A REPEAT!

Anyone able to get a joystick/gamepad to work properly with it? It seems to detect my joypad and recognizes the buttons but I can't get it to reconfigure the directional controls (pushing the stick left or right etc. doesn't register as anything). Anyone get this to work?

My review of this game:

First Impressions:

The game installed and started quickly enough, but the midi-like music was horrifically loud on my speakers, and all I saw was an opening credits screen. Pressing enter or clicking did not remove it, but ESC brought up a menu which I assume is the main menu. Not much to see there, just standard load game, new game, and options (which aren't anything special either) controls. The menus after that are also somewhat straightforward, though the saving and loading fuctions could be more streamlined. I'm not sure what the 'Contacts' tab on the main game menu is, either, though the HyperShopping (can you imagine the sales pitch? "So fast it's like hyperspace!") and main areas are self-explanatory.

Story:

From what I can gather, you are one of a variety of male (and one female) scantily-clad, muscle-bound, often bloody 'Federal Heros'. That's right folks, not Captain, not Commander, not even Fighter Pilot. Hero. Not that you do anything remotely heroic - mostly you accept missions from swearing aliens that can't speak English well (yes, this game is borderline-Engrish) that involve blowing up things, killing people, and generating large amounts of blood (or just large explosions, if you have the Gore option turned off - it's on by default). There's no real plotline that I could see during my 20 minutes or so of play, nor is there a real storyline other then 'blow it all to heck'. You buy upgrades and whatnot at a 'StarDonald's' (fast food of the FUTURE! Now with ion cannons!), and the star systems have names like 'Alcohol System' and 'Explosion Nebula'. Talk about the universe going to the dogs.

Gameplay:

The game is pretty much a straightforward, shoot-as-much-as-you-can style game. The website stresses the amount of violence and gore, and there's plenty (more on that later). The various weapon upgrades help a little, but there's not much too it other then that. The story is told through 'Campaigns' which are accessed from the overworld-type StarDonald's level (this is never explained though - I thought I was failing my mission until I realized I'd never started it). There's no place to upgrade your ship, from what I can see, though, or your shield/hull (I'm not even sure you get a shield). The ship handles well, but weapons fire is a bit slow, even with 5-star speed weapons (the fastest I saw).

Sound:

The sounds are standard explosion, screaming, shooting things. Nothing special here, but nothing extremely offensive either. The music is a bit tinny, but comes off as OK. As with the rest of the game, a bit violence-heavy, however.

Graphics:

2D all the way. The effects are quite nice, but are very heaving on poorly done isometric explosion sprites. Compared to Star Blaze, another similar game, they are really not good at all. Weapons fire is standard, but the ships and stations look like they were all designed by different people who didn't all get the memo - or one guy with seven personalities. Your ship probably looks most cumbersome of all, not even pretending to move beyond 3 or so animations. The 'gore' advertised is just little drops of blood, but there are loads of explosions.

Overall:

This is a decent, if not great space shooter. Good for free, but in no way worth $29.95 or the $10 'gold' expansion. Thanks to GGAOTD for providing it for us!
