The description and system requirements have me a ittle confused... The description says windows and mac, but the system requirements say Windows and iOS... now I could be wrong but I thought modern Mac's used OS-X 10. something and iOS was solely used in portable i-devices like i-pad, i-phone, i-pod... AND if it was for iOS the device would have to be jailbroken to be able to install a games app from any source other than the Apple i-store.

I usually don't care much for the physics games but this one has really nice graphics (bright and colorful and well drawn) and I've always liked gemstones and treasure chests so I decided to try it.

I really like it! :)

Some physics games don't seem to really have a point - you do something to make something else happen but there's not really any reason for it. In Gemollection you have to get the gems into the treasure chests - you're still doing something to make something else happen but there's a reason for it.

And there are other physics games that just seem kinda stupid to me - like shooting bunnies or zombies out of cannons - I never understood those. Getting gemstones and coins into treasure chests makes sense to me. :)

I really like games with colorful graphics and whether the artwork is simple or highly detailed I like it to look nice. Gemollection is colorful with simple but very good artwork. I really like how it's animated too.

I'm going to enjoy this game for quite awhile. :)

Thank you!

How people come on here and complain about the games given away for free by the developers and a team of people who work really hard to have things work, look nice and be virus free is beyond my thinking!! Not to mention that we have had very few times where there are no games, sure there may be ones that do not interest you, but we have had games all the time! I recall when we would go weeks and weeks without a game, that was sad. Now we have some truly wonderful games by really great developers coming back and it is so awesome! When I download a game, I always post a mini review, I try to be helpful and hope that a developer reads it. I always go to their sites and support them too! I have loads of games by these guys.

This type is not my favorite but I found it plays very well! I think the music was a bit too much, but the graphics were really nice and the gameplay simple enough to learn, and got harder later on...lol I would have loved to have a level editor and a easy, normal and hard mode too. This played great though..no problems ect.

Thank you always for the great work to the developers, this website and also to White Rabbit. I know what it is like to live in chronic pain and have stuff going on, to find the energy to get things done. I always come here to see the links for the sales, I gotta say you are right about these games going for much less later on, but I sometimes have to get them right at launch! LOL Thanks for all you do and Happy Easter everyone!!

Refer to post 14. I found that the game will work if I allow all requests for storage to be enabled on flash player but if I have the ask me for storage enabled the game will not work but remain open with the request window displayed. This needs to be addressed so the allow anything to be stored is removed from the game requirement.

After download and unzipping files and running setup, when the game opens I have a request for flash player needing space for storage. I click on yes but nothing happens and the request window remains open and the game won't start. It makes no difference if yes or no is clicked nothing happens. Uninstalled and tried again and same thing happens. Any suggestions?

Try making sure your flash player is updated to the latest version before installing.

Ok Win 8 Pro x64. Not quite full screen but works. What's with the low score. I mean for what it is there's nothing wrong for fans of the genre. Does get the brain juices flowing at higher levels. Thanks for treat. Hope Easter one is a treat, and thanks for the Peeps in advance about a goody.

I am going to download this game and play it later. I DON'T KNOW if I will like it or not. I've NEVER NEVER played a game like this before. I mean CUTTING CHAINS and DROPPING THINGS might be HARDER than it sounds.

Hey, GUESS WHAT, White Rabbit! I don't HATE HOG's anymore! At least not all of them. I downloaded "The World of Art" from GAMETOP and played it for a couple hours last night. I LIKE it! Between it and "Murder in New York" I might be moving to the dark side.

Don't get me wrong, FISHDOM is still where the game's at! BUT my broadening brain believes better bargains belong beside it.

HAH! Did you see what I did with all those B's?

What's the chance of ever getting a "Ticket to Ride" or "Settlers of Catan" type game in here?

Its hard to say swampy; we used to get games that had only just been released when the project started back in 2006. I'm sure when things improve we will again. :)

While not really original, this game is still a great diversion that one can play for five or ten minutes. It is a colorful, fun game, IMO.
Wheemplay was a company I had never heard of until they started offering games here. Since then, I have purchased a couple games from them. I think that's the whole idea behind this site: get some unknown developers some recognition.
Thanks, Wheemplay, for offering another freebie for us!

I am very interested in these types of games, BUT for me there should be three sections, one for absolute beginners or children, one for adults and one for experts.
There should be a 'design your own levels' section and provide a way of uploading them to the game makers so as they can choose the best and include them in future updates of the game.

#6: "I’d only need a week with Game Maker to produce something very similar myself. I’m serious!!"

And in the same amount of time, with a bit of experience you could likely churn out 3 games or apps for one or more app stores. Maybe not great apps/games mind you -- maybe not too good at all -- but many make enough money at it that that's where a lot of developers, new & old are heading. Add in the pressures on game devs that Whiterabbit talked about, along with incentives from Microsoft as they try to fill their new store, & I'm grateful for anything we get. :)

Actually quite interesting and fun!
This really makes you think when you get past the simpler, early stages.
I get a bit frustrated when people down these games because of the simplicity of graphics, etc. They are learning tools for kids, and adults can use them to help keep their critical thinking and problem solving skills sharp.
However you may feel personally about the game type or look, you should keep your review to the actual function of the game, keeping in mind what it is trying to accomplish. Not all games are Call Of Duty Black Ops, and not everyone wants to play that type of game.
For it's genre, this is a good game. You can't compare it to Grand Theft Auto or Black Ops.
As for the complaints about the quality of giveaways, why don't you spend every waking moment for a year developing a game and then just give it away. Not so easy, is it?

While this game is not one that I would enjoy playing on a regular basis, I do think it is a nice little fun challenge to try once in awhile and I will be keeping it. As for any decline in the games offered on this site, I have not really been rating them in that sort of manner. The site is called, "Game GIVEAWAY of the Day" and I know that when I come here I get to download a free game, as well as a very nice breakdown of the game and any possible problems that I might run into. In exchange for any game I download, the only thing that I am asked for is my opinion on how the game worked, or didn't, what I would or would not improve, and to let the developer(s) know how I felt about the game. I think that is a very good bargain, and I appreciate the time and effort that is put into the site. I always know that there is a 50/50 shot that the game will be one that I either do not like, absolutely love, already have, or just plain have no interest in, but I also know it is always 100% FREE!!!! In fact, until I paid attention to a couple of your moderations, I never really thought I would enjoy Match 3 games, and now I have 3 that I play on a fairly regular basis. Whiterabbit you do a great job breaking down and describing the games every weekend, and I apologize if I have never taken the time to tell you that I appreciate both you and this site very much!!! Have a Happy Easter, and keep on doing what you do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been a regular visitor to GGOTD for a few years now and noticed a declining trend here. Developers want feedback? Don't make unoriginal physics puzzles anymore. I'd only need a week with Game Maker to produce something very similar myself. I'm serious!!

Bought Shatter from Steam Sale for 2,24 EUR yesterday, now THAT'S quality all over. Also remember to check out the weekly Humble Bundle sales.

.....................Moderator Comment...................

Most community members don't have the time, or wouldn't know where to start w.r.t. creating a game, even with Game Maker, so sites like the giveaway project are still worth checking out for many community members. shatter is an excellent breakout game; one of the best I've seen in a long time.

For those who are interested you can get the free version of Gamemaker via Steam:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/214850/

The decline in quality games givenaway here has partly been due to the ever present recession. Not all games are below par though. If you look back over the last few years we've had some excellent games for free.

In my opinion, the advent of the free game sites, ad' supported games and the increasing number of indie bundle sales, the ever present sales on Steam, Gamersgate and other game outlets are destroying the gaming scene. Whose going to pay full price for a game when they know in only a few weeks or months you'll get it for less than half price. (There's always saps like me) You just have to look at the recent humble THQ bundle where the ailing developer sold off its entire stock of recent games totalling over $400 worth for $5. Many of the big developers have had to cancel games and are now struggling to survive.

Like any project, when its new and a bright idea the response can be immense. The giveaway project started when the average cost of an arcade game was around $20. We were getting top quality games every day. Now you can regularly pick up these quality arcade games for free from places like MyPlayCity, Jenkat games and Gametop. The most recent games can soon be found from places like Big Fish for less than $3. Its no wonder many developers are struggling.

Personally I don't mind paying full price for most of my games a sI think the work that goes into them deserves the price; for example I paid over £60 (approx. $90) for the recently released Sim City and the latest version of Battlefield 3 cost me over £60 (I purchased the Limited Edition first, then realised it would be cheaper to purchase the Premium edition as that included all five expansion packs whereas the limited edition only included one expansion. They didn't do upgrades, so I had to purchase the game a second time.

Soon you'll probably be able to pick Battlefield 3 Premium Edition up for less than £20 once Battlefield 4 is released. The only games I see that hold their price for much longer are the Call of Duty games. virtually every other game will be cheaper within months of release.

'Scuze the rant. :)

Works on XP - no surprise. The second Wheemplay game I tried and the first one I will keep. Didn't like the graphics or colors in previous Wheemplay games, but like them in this one. Maybe it's more suitable for the kids, so that they learn throwing objects without thinking where they land may have some unsuspected consequences? ;-) Thumbs up from me. Now it's off to make some preparations for Easter and enjoy the beautiful winter we have this spring.

I really want to put in a few words in favour for Wheemplay games. I feel many people do not give them the credits they should get.

These games are small and compact, all of them are portable and easy to carry with you on a stick and are able to fill in the lost moments between things that matter on a day, just to offer some relaxing divertion. Most games are not hard but just easy and relaxing while many times still interesting.

Ofcourse not every game will appeal as much as the other and there are some that are not challenging or appealing at all (I rember a shoot up Justin Bieber game or something like that that was really terrible).

They usualy come in a form where you have to puzzle with some kind of physics. No, not calculus, just visual trial and error and sometimes quite challenging.

**************
This game is about cutting balls from chains and collecting the balls in treasurechests. All kind of interfering object are in your way and either you get them out of the way or you use them to reach your goal.
Again this is done by manipulating objects with some pseudo physics.
The first levels are the most easy, but so far i never found it getting to hard anywhere.
**************

Some people seem to think flashgames are no real games, but why should that be? You still have to meet the challenge of the game and mostly they look fine.

You will not encounter installing problems because a flashplayer is included to play the game (you won't even notice this is the case).
This way you don't have to worry about flash-releases all is bundled in a coherent working single file piece of software.

I reserved a usb-stick and collected all Wheemplay games released here so far.
Because the games are small you can carry many and have lots of choice what to play.

All Wheemplay games are there for ever and not only for the day of the giveaway because they all are single file games after installing and you simly have to store that file and copy it anywhere whenever you want. (some extra file can be created by the game but loosing those will not harm the game and will be created again automatically).

Because they all are single portable file games you will not damage your computer configuration using them. Uninstalling is jsut deleting the file.

Of course everyone can thing in other ways about these games, but to me Wheemplay games are just nice to get once in a whlie (better then a weekend without games at all).

A nice Eastergame tomorrow whould be a nice touch (surprise?). Have a fine Easter to you all and especially to our moderator White Rabbit who finds the time and energy to always put in the pile off effords he makes to make this site worthwhile. Many people get his personal reaction upon sending their comment. Respect and a very fine Easter to you and your family.

Gemollection:

In Brief:

Another Wheemplay flash puzzle game. One of the better ones IMO. There are only 27 levels, so will only keep you for maybe 30 minutes or less, but a reasonable distraction for easy puzzle lovers. :)

gemcollection 001

Main Menu
gemcollection 002

Level Map
Installation:

Gemollection downloads to a 18.4 MB zip file that unpacks to a read me and a wrapped setup activation file (the orange colored file with the key symbol), plus there's a setup file with security (setup.gcd) that's protected from being hacked. This file may case some security software to alert the user to a possible malware attack, but it will be a false positive.

The game giveaway team check all game giveaways for malware using several well known anti -malware suites. There has never been a game giveaway infected with malware since the project started back in Dec 2006. Some community members have been having problems installing games since the security software was added. It's been found that turning off your security or configuring it to accept the setup.cgd file sorts the problem out. The installed game is 9.71 MB in size. and installs to:

C:\Games\Gemollection.exe

by default, but can be changed to suit whatever your wishes are. There is no folder created when installing to the default path. There is no uninstaller, but this game is free standing so to delete just delete the installed executable from your hard drive. No shortcuts are installed so you will have to create your own which as most of you know is easy an easy process (right click on the games executable then select ‘Send to’ then from the drop down menu select ‘Desktop (create shortcut) ). If you want to create a start menu/programs folder you’ll need to find the appropriate folders via your account. Once the game is installed you can delete the giveaway setup files.

I've tested the game on Win 7 and Win 8. I no longer have a Vista or XP platform to test on at the moment, (I'm intending to reinstall both Vista and XP onto an older computer eventually) Anyone using these two platforms please confirm whether this game works Thanks.

Level Four
The Game:

You get 27 levels of cut the chain puzzles where the aim is to get the gems into the chests with several obstacles and tools such as force fields, cannons and transporters to aid you in your quest. Each level is timed. The faster you complete the level the greater the score. When the score countdown reaches zero you can still complete the level or choose to restart the level. you can't progress to the next level until you've completed the proceeding level first. you can pause the game if you wish and there's a button to turn the music off if you find it annoying. There's no volume control. When you've completed a level you can see your cumulative score. Scores for each level are based not only on the score for capturing the gems but also for bonus coins. these are not required, but give you higher scores and also star ratings for your level. Oddly when the countdown reaches zero it starts to count back up until you start playing the level. However you will lose star ratings if you allow this.

Levels get successively more complex as you progress through the levels.

Re-playability – 5
Originality – 5

Total = 6 out of 10

Suggestions:

In the retail version add a level editor and combine the main game with the player pack to give more levels (53)

Problems:

If you are posting late in the day I would also suggest posting in the main giveaway forums in the game discussion section. If you've installed the game but it won’t work for some reason, it should still be registered, so someone may be able to help at another time. Unfortunately if your problem is actually installing it then once the giveaway period is over there’s nothing that can be done until the game is given away again (though that isn't guaranteed). It’s always worth checking out the free games sites as sometimes the games we get here are also available for free from them. MyPlayCity has the most with over 600 games to choose from. Today's game isn't available from MyPlayCity, but you will find it on loads of sites offering flash. If you enjoy playing today's game you can find more levels in the players pack accessed HERE or via Big Fish HERE. you can also find today's game online HERE

========================================================

A Request for helpl>:

Developers rely on good feedback to improve their games. If you download this game please take some time once you’ve played it a while to leave some constructive feedback either positive or negative. The more constructive feedback we get, the more likely developers are going to give more games away. The giveaway site already has a very good standing with the search engines. Developers want their products out there on the WWW, this site has the potential to do that. The game giveaway project gives away on average between 9 to 17 thousand downloads for each game depending upon what genre and how obscure the game is. That’s a lot of homes these games are being downloaded into and a lot of 'potential' cash that’s being lost by the developers. If we get better games because of better feedback, the community are likely to continue to benefit from the generosity of the developers. Satisfied community members are then more likely to visit the home sites of those developers and purchase games that they may not have bothered with before they discovered the developer via the game giveaway site, thus giving the developers more incentives to give away even more decent games.

Please leave some feedback once you've checked the game out. It can be positive or negative, but please explain what your reasons were for the feedback you post. You could also leave suggestions for improving the game, for example, this game could do with more block types for the levels editor, add more power-ups, describing the ones you think would be suitable, add some mini games (which seem all the rage in some arcade games now) or enable the user to be able to change the in game music easily.

Thank you in advance to all those who take the time to post a constructive comment.

Regards

Whiterabbit aka Stephen
