A simple, distracting game that is rather fun. Nice brain teasers. The music is irritating and repetitive (like so many games), but it's an easy download for hours of entertainment.

The graphics are very simplistic and reminiscent of PacMan. The puzzles aren't going to take days to solve. The navigation within the game is easy and intuitive. The premise is simple, and easy to grasp. It was a very quick download on dial-up. Good for when you just want a few minutes of distraction before diving back into whatever was making you nuts.

Cute game. First levels are really easy (on the "Easy" level), then it gets more tricky quickly, but not so difficult that you give up. One suggestion: a "undo" button just in case you hit the wrong thing, because the way it is now, you have to restart the entire level.

So what is the point of giving away a free game that don't work on most computers? Or should we all ditch our new computers and by outdated ones as some suggest. So Stephen, did not know you were moderating these forums now. No disrespect to you or what you have provided for these people and I did correct myself when I found the post. Yes I am negative about ggod. Why because they promise things and than just blow smoke up our backsides. And Monkie, I refute your claim about reading my posts all over the inter web and they are negative. This is the only place that I use my name and yes most of my posts HERE are not positive, if they ever get their act together or bring a decent game that works I will be one of the first to be amazed and say so. My opinion and from their track record I doubt it. You can tell me like you've told others, if you don't like it leave or give me the its free speech, but that's just an intimidation thing that I ignore. My opinions are here for all to see and I am not afraid or intimidated by those who would try to shut me or anyone else up for saying something negative or controversial. With that said, back to killing Zombies.

@whiterabbit - don't worry about Russ' negativity; I've been reading his posts all over the interwebz for years now and I've yet to see anything positive.
As for the game, this one isn't really my cup of tea, but I appreciate seeing something different up for grabs.

If the program states that it isn't for Vista then why are so many Vista users complaining about it? Some Vista programs won't even run on Vista because it's a messed up OS. Great little retro game that I'm sure will give me hours of game play. Thanks GGotd

It doesn't work on Vista AND it has poor graphics?!?

This may be an "ancient" game, but for free I NEVER gripe! If something interests me, I read through the messages where I can ALWAYS find comprehensive info, then if I want to try it, ok. If not, thanks anyway.
Same for the free utilities.
That said, a fun game for my young grandkids while the older ones can play it just long enough to ignore the older crowd, lol. It's also a few-minutes stress reliever for me when I need a quick breather.
Thanks, GGAOTD.

Always happy to see a freebie that will run on my antique machine.

Being a bit of an antique myself, I like puzzle games that don't require speedy reflexes and teen-boy-level game skills.

I agree with #46 (oma40). That version WORKS under Vista. The install folder is different. It seems to be the special setup for GOTD that won't work - not the game itself. How do we register that free copy of the game to get all the levels.

It's similar to other games I have with similar levels but the kind of logic puzzle I like!

This game appears to be one I would enjoy, similar to another "move the boxes" game I used to play. Alas, I too am stuck with Vista. It IS great that the game works on older machines because there are still a lot of them about. Thanks GAOTD for bringing us a variety of stuff to try!

This isn't that bad of a puzzle game. Not too challenging, but no complaints about the price.

I won't complain about lack of Vista support since I have avoided Vista and plan to bypass it entirely for Windows 7. But those of you complaining about it, you could try out VirtualBox 3.0 which should allow you to run a virtual XP machine within Vista.

What are you talking about Russ, comment #51 and #42, your previous comment WAS allowed through moderation. If you want 'really' decent games then why don’t you purchase them? (not that I'm saying some of the games given away here aren't decent because some are actually really good for, example Larva Mortus, Around the World in 80 Days, Turtle Odyssey 2, The Rise of Atlantis, Deep Quest, The Mysterious City: Cairo, The Mysterious City: Prague, The Cursed Wheel, Top chef, Archibald’s Adventures, Surikarta, Xou Dou Qi, Ghost in the Sheet, Ball 7, Jane’s Hotel and Jane’s Hotel: Family Business, Mr. Smoozles Goes Nutso, Bagh Chal, and many more. Not every game is going to please every one. If you feel so badly about the quality of the games offered, you should buy them instead. (I buy games every week if I really want them). To be honest there are so many amazing deals around just now, you can pick up 16 arcade games via Steam for only £25. Each game is worth nearly $20. for example you can get all three RIP titles as part of this deal separately for only a few dollars. The total price for all three games if you go for this deal is less than $2. They are also offering a whole fistful of DVD based games such as Bioshock for an amazing price. Fallout 3 is half price this weekend as well.

What the game giveawayoftheday does (for me at least) is give me an opportunity to try out different genres. If I really like one of the games given away I'll purchase it because in my opinion it's the right thing to do. Game developers aren't putting out these games for free, they are there to make money. If no money is forthcoming no decent games are going to be made. Even those creating free games are (in the main) doing it so that it will hopefully give them a foot into the big developers corporations.

Sorry for the rant; it just sickens me to see so much negativity; just because the game wasn’t what some wanted. Sorry for the Vista users. I dumped mine and returned to XP, but that’s not to say that developers shouldn’t make new software work with Vista. Thankfully most do. I tried transferring my installed copy of this game to my laptop which has Vista installed; (I keep it on that one as I do like the interface and I’m not bothered about it not running everything I own), but it wouldn’t even acknowledge that it was installed.

Finally, maybe you’ll find something via the Games Synopsis. We’ve collected together around 800 free games:

btw Russ, I moderate this comments section and rarely stop a comment from being accepted. If the comment isn't to the point, has nothing to do with Gamegiveaway, or calling someone on these forums, then it may not get posted.

Installed and runs fine on my XP SP3 system.

It's a simple little logic puzzle game that is enjoyable but not flashy. I have only played the first 8 levels but it does make you think ahead so it is a bit of a challenge for a simple game.

While looking in the game file I noticed that some of the files were created in 2005 which pre-dates Vista (I believe). While I understand the complaints, there are still a lot of XP (and older) systems in use. I would wonder how many downloads this game gets when compared to one that is also Vista compatable.

Even with all the complaints about Vista, I had to try it. I have just gone through my old games and I have some from 1991 (Windows 3.1) that still run.

However, my Vists 32 Ultimate SP2 got absolutely NOWHERE with this. I got no error, no message no nothing. It's like the .exe was ignored. I did successfully uninstall it (main shortcut folder) but that did not remove the shortcuts or shortcut group. It also did not remove the main install folder and one sub-folder (Links). All of this was done manually.

I normally have no problems with XP rated games. I wonder why this was ignored!

Downloaded the original game "fcreatures.exe"!
Installation goes the same way the GOTD-version does. It runs under Vista but it´s an unregistered version and I bhave no Register-key.
So, therefor it´S free today, where can I get this key?

I am running winXP pro ver. 2002 service pack 3, Pentium 2.80GHz, 2.79GHz, 2.00GB of Ram 62.7GB used space, 86.2GB free space, of 149GB..
Downloaded Funny Creatures, no problem downloading, no problem setting up, no problem activating,...
The only thing that did happen was when I first started the game, it started in Full window, and my video card did not like it, it flashed my screen like it was having a hard time going, then it straightend itself out, I took it off of full window in options and haven't had a problem ..This game may be simple older game, but is addictive, and the grand kids ages 7 thru 11 love it...It is a puzzle type game and does get a bit harder as you go along...but what fun would it be if it didn't..
Thankyou GameGive away of the day..I love this site..

Chalk it up Vista users! It's about time to see some giveaways for those of us that don't want to squander our money away on new crappy computers.

There's alot of us out here with older machines, & downloads such as this, is a blessing.

Let's see some more for older computers!

I would seriously beware of downloading 'most' games from MyPlayCity because they force you to accept toolbars and hijack your home page. Gametop and FreeGamesPick are better. Some game try to do the same thing re hijacking, but you can deselect and get a working game. though all of them do open your browser when you shut down the game.

http://www.gametop.com

http://www.freegamepick.com

(That may be freegamespick)

Its a shame it doesn't support Vista. LEts hope that Win 7 will fix all those problems that many had who tried Vista but reverted back to XP.

I hope your 4th July celebrations go well.

It's really quite a good game once you get past the first few levels. It makes one think (and I could belong to Mensa..., like many of you, I imagine!). My brain needs a workout once in awhile, and I don't exercise it enough. The music isn't super annoying, and you could always mute it. All in all, I'm quite pleased. XPsp3.

this would probably have been a nice little game but like the others above, I too run Vista. I tried installing the game using admin. It appeared to install but would not run in regular mode, compatability or as admin. I used the uninstall but it all remained in my program files. Went to add/remove programs but it didn't even show up there so had to remove each item seperately. Not too impressed.

AdWatch Live blocked Funny Creatures.exe (1532)
Process identified as PCK/ExeCryptor

It just means the game's executable is packed and encrypted. It's a technique that's used to prevent the program from being reverse-engineered. Some mal-ware uses the same technique, so it can be quite difficult to distinguish between mal-ware and legit use. Some programmers deal with this dilemma by setting their software to detect any packed or encrypted executable as potential mal-ware, which is most likely the cause of your alert.

A word to the programmers: it's 2009. Windows Vista has been out since 2006. Releasing a game that won't run on Vista at this point in time is like releasing a game that would only run on Windows 98 and not XP in 2004. In other words, it's not exactly a path to commercial success. Let's get with the program, people. When Microsoft is getting ready to release the next version, but your software will only work on the previous version, you've got big problems.
