I love this game! It is a game that I like to play and my kids also enjoy it. We have had so much fun laughing and playing this game. It's rare to find a game that we all agree on and this fits the script. Thanks a bunch! I would recommend this game to anyone!

The game is fine, I really like this type of game, but for what concerns me I didn't find any diffrence between dificulty levels and the speed of the snake it's quite slow for my taste (after 10 minutes or so it's very probable it becomes borring).
Thanks for giving it for free!

#43, David, Thanks atleast someone understands what was going on here and that ~Swan was a real "(swear word)HEAD" the other day and had no right to badger other people on how they spell or write up comments.
thats why i got annoyed and have ~Swan to check it.
I have never told him/her that they had atrosous spelling.
As for different names more than one person can use a computer in the one place.
Thanks David.

Not really my type of game, I can't see how it would hold any adult's attention. But the pp are right, it might be great for some kids.

It gets a thumbs up from me otherwise just for not being Double Games. It downloads, installs and runs smoothly and that's enough!

OMG! Thank you for making me laugh so hard on such a dull day! I was so tired of listening to my Mother's nonsense (Alzheimer's) all day... At last, I could sit at my desk and enjoy a few moments of rest. I'm beginning to get addicted to these comments, lolol.
For God's sake, please remember that we're given these games for free, and some people have youngsters that will like this kind of games.
I for one will d/l it and give it a try due to whiterabbit's review. At least it will help me kill some time and feel better than I'm doing today. In case it bores me in the future, there's always the uninstaller that GAOTD offered us some days ago. That's where those DoubleGames ended...
Thank you GGAOTD for all that you do! It is appreciated on this end.

Speaking to the little boy @ #37:

Why do you use so many different aliases when you attempt these attacks on me?

What are you afraid of? I won't retaliate - I understand the tantrums of toddlers.

Poor little one, don't worry, you'll find something worthwhile to say when you grow up. (One would hope!)

Go do something meaningful and give Daddy a big hug for Father's Day.

Even the legendary "~Swan" can not be bothered with this game,
what will become of us all if we lose our spelling bee ~Swan?
will the boards be full of misspelled words and fall apart without
no one to check them, I may revert back to dislectic fingers.
will my "under 10yr old" ever learn to read without the ~Swan.

After reading some comments its seems that some are expecting only more adult age games. I believe there are kids out and about that like to play games too, kids of all ages. Maybe some of these games are 'simple' etc. But for the younger kids they are probably tons of fun. Sometimes people lose sight of that.

Good morning everyone,

So now we have 'Battle Snake' revisited.

#12 Merril: You know, I'm surprised you even bothered spending all that time reviewing this game. :-7

I won't - not for this totally dull game that doesn't even deserve my time. I didn't enjoy the first of the snake downloads and I learn from my lessons.

However, I do hope that some little tike somewhere will glean some enjoyment out of it.

Real Apex: While I've always been grateful for your offers, I'm hoping that this isn't the beginning of a slide in quality for you. We've always welcomed your presence and would like to continue to do so.

Thanks GotD - for your efforts and often seen achievements.

Beam me up Scotty!

Ok, I have to speak up here. I'm not a fan of the type of game offered today, but I still think this is a great site. I am a member of real arcade too. They are offering Snowy Lunch Rush now......I got it weeks ago here. Also on their list is the game Bricks of Egypt, another favorite I got right here. Sure, there are gonna be some bad games that come thru here, but every now and then a brilliant one comes thru. I check every day, just in case it's a day for a good one :) I say, keep up the good work guys!!!
My big wish would be for some hidden objects games, but those are really popular now and probably would not come thru here, unfortunately :(

I missed Battle snake at the end of May due to being in hospital, so it's nice that I’ve got this one. I forgot to mention some points, which Merril thankfully mentions above such as there is no mouse control, which is a pity. However you can reassign the key bindings which may help????

My daughter told me about this site, and I was so excited. The first few days I downloaded every game that was offered. But now?? I've gone for over a week without downloading anything. What has happened here? I really enjoy playing games on the computer, but with a limited income, we senior citizens have to be careful how we spend out money. So I only download games if they are free. And THAT'S why I love this site. PLEASE, bring in some really good games soon? Again?
Thank you.

Initial window following installation;

http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n61/Whiterabbit_01/gaotd/snake%20game/feedthesnakeinitialwindow.gif

Activation and installation was a breeze. Following the installation, a window is presented (see above link) that allows you to see the readme file, which contains an overview and the features of the game as well as system requirements and other info such as the eula, registration details and contact information.

Overview and Features:

http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n61/Whiterabbit_01/gaotd/snake%20game/feedthesnakeoverviewandfeatures.gif

The system requirements hail from the mid 90’s apart from the Direct X capabilities which are more like around the year 2000. Most of us will have systems better than the minimum requirements which briefly are a Pentium 266MHz cpu, 16Mb of RAM, and graphics support for 16 bit, screen res 800x600. The Direct X version required is 7.0. I don’t mean to imply that an old game is not worth the effort, far from it as I still play games that are over a decade old occasionally.

Initial game menu:

http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n61/Whiterabbit_01/gaotd/snake%20game/feedthesnakemainmenu.gif

The main menu window allows you to read the original readme document whenever you start up the game from the shortcut or executable file. With only a Play, Help and Exit button, there’s not much else to say about the start menu apart from the two buttons to the right which allows you to check for updates (lol) and to see more Apex games. The link to Apex’s home page is instead of a shortcut being put onto the desk top, which I do prefer as it’s less invasive. (Not that a small entry in the registry is going to make any difference to the running of your system. :) )

Following the update link will take you to the games page at Apex. It’s well presented and shows a couple of screenshots (the same ones as above, as well as the introduction to the game, which I have edited to improve the grammar and language and is as follows:

Feed the Snake is an update of the classic snake game. Which according to the developer/distributor is a formula for addictive and easy to learn game play? The presence of good food will allow you to grow from a little snake to a mighty python, although watch out for the bad food because this can have an adverse effect on your progress. This and a teleport system that moves you from one part of the level to another are the main difference between this and older snake games.

In this game there are 4 different worlds each with its own style of graphics and types of food. A new feature for this genre of game is a multiplayer mode maintaining 2 players on the screen. Also you will find power ups that temporarily make the bad food change to good food or accelerate/decelerate the snake.

The updates to the classic game as well as the pleasant music and appropriate sound effects are a must for those wishing to relax after a hard days work!

The introduction above doesn’t explain that there are at least 10 power ups which include score add-on’s, extra life and others that I’ll let you discover for yourself, or check the image below (see page 2 of the instructions). Also there are two types of teleporter, one that moves you to a different part of the level and another one that moves you to the next level. (see page 2 of the instructions). Page 3 is just acknowledgments, the version number which is v1.3 and who the game is registered to, which if you’ve activated it will say ‘Gamegiveawayoftheday’.

Instructions Page 1:

http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n61/Whiterabbit_01/gaotd/snake%20game/feedthesnakeingameinstructionspage1.gif

Instructions Page 2:

http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n61/Whiterabbit_01/gaotd/snake%20game/feedthesnakeingameinstructionspage2.gif

Clicking on the ‘New Game’ (1) will bring you to another menu (2) that enables you to set the difficulty and whether you’re going to play a one player or multiplayer game.

New Game Menus:

1)

http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n61/Whiterabbit_01/gaotd/snake%20game/feedthesnakegamemenu.gif

2)

http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n61/Whiterabbit_01/gaotd/snake%20game/feedthesnakeNewGame.gif

Once you are set up you’ll get further instructions on what you need to do such as what to eat and what to avoid as well as how much you are required to grow to progress to the next level, which is indicated at the top of the playing area.

Start of Game instructions:

http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n61/Whiterabbit_01/gaotd/snake%20game/feedthesnakeNewGametasks.gif

You also have a timer which counts down in seconds; you get more time playing on easy than medium and hard. The first level is simple so as to give you a chance to get used to the movement of the snake. Avoid eating any bad food or touching the perimeter otherwise you shrink back to your start size. You must also not cross over any part of your body otherwise you lose all the segments from the cut point. The food is constantly moving, so don’t try to go for good food that is at the other side of the playing arena. Again, you’ll get more food popping up in the easy levels. Collect power ups as you go to enhance or speed up your game play. The snake moves constantly, thankfully if you need to take a break before the end of the level you can pause the game by pressing the escape (esc) key. The game menu gives you the impression that you can save your games because there is a load game button, which when clicked on takes you to another page with 10 save slots and another 10 slots for the multiplayer game. However I couldn’t figure out how to save the game. There’s no information in the instructions about this. Due to fathers day commitments (going for a meal), I didn’t have time to check the game past the first level. It may be that the game is automatically saved at the end of a level???

In Game Images;

I have to agree with the game blurb, that is, that this really is an addictive game. I haven’t played a game of this sort apart from Axy snake that was given away earlier this year, since the 1980’s when I had an Einstein 84K computer (no not a 64). In my opinion this game is much more relaxing to play than the 3D game. The graphics are simple but good. My children will love it. They loved Axy Snake, but found the 3D graphics a little disconcerting, and would hide behind me when they were near the dark forest at the perimeter of the game.

You’ll find the game play very simple to pick up even if you’ve never played this genre of game before. Please try it before you condemn it. The game has been well thought out and is pleasant to look at… (Maybe it’s the green playing field; however remember there are four different worlds to explore with different themes and food. I’ll be keeping this one for the family.

Thank you GGAotD and RealApex for this game, it’s a great retro game, that I’m sure will fill in the odd few minutes when I need a break from other more advanced games, or other life provoking situations, lol.

IMO this game is worth 6 out of 10 for re-playability and simplicity.

Sigh. "All your snake are belong to us". Ok, so after a few months of visiting the site on the games side I haven't seen one that is worth saving, much less paying. Either we see the low-quality rehash of a concept, or the game was released a half decade ago, or both. The only one I have seen that had some semblance of production value was "7 Lands". Not for my taste, but it was a well-made game.

The program side of this offer has had a couple of things I found to be helpful and that's where I look. I'll be surprised if we see anything of marginal quality here.

Yep, free and all, I get that. I'm not cranking about the cost. It's honest feedback that some of our expectations are a little higher than anything offered here.

Sorry I just have to reply to your post; we have seen spiders sell their prey for monetary income, aliens invading the planet, robots that have superhuman characteristics, reptiles that drive around in tanks and creatures responsible for making it rain living off diamonds in the sky - but a worm turning into a snake? That would just be silly!!!!! :-D :-D :-D

Me again, should not have posted comment before sleep..... Battle Snake involved, um, battle which this game does not. Feed The Snake involves feeding, ahem, the snake and doesn't have weapons or pesky robots that need shooting. As such this is a gentler version and is not, as I said in my above post, "exactly the same as Battle Snake", it is just very similar.

No good games lately. Gosh, what happened to this site, every morning I come here first hoping to find a good game, and I have not downloaded a game in weeks. Guess no other developer/publisher wants to make money by offering a good game here in chance we might purchase something from their site. The fun is over, but it was good while it lasted.

The game is an iteration of Battle Snake, probably an early one. Battle Snake has more functionality (shoot monsters using the food as ammo) and powerups, but in this one the controls seem more responsive and the menu actually works. Also unlike its brother the music isn't a rape of great artist, which is why it gets a reluctant thumbs-up. The music is still poor and supremely unfitting, but at least it's complete tunes rather than second-long clips looping, and if you happen to like old Slice tunes you're in luck. Anyone else should make sure to turn off the music after the first savepoint.

The gameplay is simplistic and suits small children, rather than anyone who needs to "rise your mood even after working day".

That's strange. In the game's description it says that you grow from a worm to a mighty snake(snakes and worms aren't related for those dimwitted people out there).Well I don't think they know anything about the animal kingdom. But I don't know if I should download this game or not I will only download this game if there are 4 people who comment, saying:This game is so great I want to play it forever!I won't download this game if 4 people comment saying:This game is terrible I will not download it at all!

Just passed by to see what other have been saying.

Nice to see that I'm not the only one that really is not impressed by the game offered.

The only surprise I got was seeing that not only are there some that really like the game but even would go so far as paying 10 USD for it.
What's next? Ohh...let's all be utterly fawning over this marvelous game that should be offered for 20...nay...50..nay...250 USD because it has such 'cool graphics' and runs so smooth and ...and..and works so well.

As Rodger Rabbit would say : ppppllllllleeeeeeeaaaaazzzzzzzeeeeee.
Get a grip people. If it is crap, say so. You're not doing anyone any favours by trying to be major suck ups.

For anyone that wants a game that does more then just work
http://osswin.sourceforge.net/games.html
Atleast there you can find games that don't make false claims and which need to be actually played while using your higher faculties.
E.g. they even have chess, backgammon as well as first person shooters. Which is more then I have ever seen here.

If you downloaded from here on 29th May then this game does not need to be installed on your pc as you already have it - it is exactly the same as Battle Snake, the only difference being the graphics used in the opening titles and menus and the music.

I am surprised that RealApex have done this (particularly as they are advertising Battle Snake at the top of this page) and am not sure why they have, unless this was the earlier "cuter" version and Battle Snake was intended to try and capture the war games market.......!!!! Nevertheless, nothing should be taken away from the game itself just because we have personally seen it before and as always I think it is worth remembering that the site is not here to build up any individual's collection with unique titles each day; there will also be those who did not download Battle Snake and therefore now have a totally new game.

This version, "Feed The Snake" takes place on the planet Snakeus (I see what they did there!) and is a remake of the popular "Snake" game that was around in the 80s and more recently became popular again as a game on mobile phones, even before they went into technicolour and multi-tasked as cameras.

As with Battle Snake the game can only be played using the keyboard - so a wide section of potential players are unfortunately already unable to play the game - uniquely having the facility to play alone or with a partner. This brings into question practicality issues, the first being the fact that 2 people playing a game using the same keyboard conjures up visions of chaos and a surge in new keyboard sales on eBay, the second that simultaneous key presses would surely not register commands for both players.

Key presses themselves are a big problem with this game in both versions - the snake does not respond well at all and multiple presses are needed to get him to turn by which time he has missed the fruit you were after anyway. Once again, the noise of disgust that the snake makes on eating red (bad) food is a joy to hear and I can't help but go around collecting them for that alone (I think it's time for me to visit a travel agent).

Once again, the game shows itself as registered to giveawayoftheday which is a great addition and attention to detail is nice, from the bib the snake wears in the opening scene to the "oops!" noises he makes when he loses a life. Again it is worth keeping this game for school holidays and wet weekends as children will no doubt enjoy it and adults will find the higher levels challenging although the slow game play and unresponsive key commands do make it somewhat frustrating at times.

A plentiful 10 games can be saved to start up again and the music is dancey although repetitive and it is necessary to set off on a mute button quest after only a short time.

A good game overall and if you don't already have Battle Snake, worth keeping in your games folder as an occasional time waster. Not a game that I would imagine would have frequent adult usage for the reasons mentioned above but nonetheless the higher levels are a challenge and the graphics are lovely throughout.

Sorry, but I'm not crazy about another snake game. I have one and that's enough. I'll wait to see what is available tomorrow. Thanks, GGOTD!

I like this game! The graphics are cool.... Very easy to install and the game ran along just fine. It prompted me to save my game after three levels, which surprised me, because its site said it'll prompt for saving after every five levels. After clicking on an empty save slot, I was brought back to the game, which made me wonder whether my game was really saved or not. After level 5 though, I was asked to save again and I noticed that "Level 3" appeared in the save slot I earlier clicked on. This is not a problem though.

This game is addictive!

Aw, thanks GAOTD... I've always enjoyed these snakey-poo games (at certain odd moments in my life...lol!) but never actually bought one. Now I can fulfill those moments, thanks to you. Luv from me... and thanks for all the games.
