How lovely, a game that tells girls how they look is more important than what's inside their heads. And introduced with "It’s obvious that high-quality fashionable clothes work like magic with any woman." That's not the least bit obvious. What that statement and this game are is sexist and demeaning. Please, developers, have your games ideas and the comments within them vetted by mature, intelligent women before foisting stereotypes on girls.

Hi Kay, thanks for your feedback. Please do remmebr this is a game and not the real world. You could argue that pink and blue baby cloths are inappropriate in todays 'enlightened' times.

Downloaded and plays OK for me (Win XP, SP2). Toggles full-screen/windowed just fine, too.

Because it's a stand-alone Flash game, I loaded it on my thumbdrive: I know a couple of little girls who'll probably enjoy this, with its bright, clear graphics, cartoonish characters and generous timing; so I'll take it with me!

This may not pass SwampThing's Fishdom-comparison test, but it is cute and fun for a quick game.

Thanks for this one, DoubleGames & GGOTD!

I have no problem making shortcuts. The WinRAR extractor is fine. This game and otherss installed much faster with that than other giveaways. Thanks Stephen, GGOTD, DoubleGames, and Gambana.

@16 and others against me:
Why I recommend GOTD to create shortcuts is that most of my friends and family do not have enough technical knowledge of computers to open Windows Explorer, much less know where to go or how to create the shortcut.
I used to spread the word via email to my contacts when a good game came on here but no longer do so. If I have to go to each of my friends and families' homes to install the game, I'm simply not going to bother to spread the word... Too much trouble for me. Sorry. My point of view and mine alone it seems...

............................Moderator Comment.............................

Hi Avid Gamer, don't let those that disagree upset you. We all have different opinions on how to do things.

I'll start including a small section in the installation paragraph that gives instructions on creating a shortcut, that way you can continue to recommend the site to friends. It would be a shame for friends to miss out on the occassional decent game simply because they don't know how to create a shortcut. Afterall, it really is a simple process (especially if I start to leave instructions on how to do it). I used to do this, but for some reason stopped.

I appreciate that some don't have the know how. I think long time users of computers tend to forget that there are always new users entering the world of computers, or those that are just not interested or capable of learning the basics.

:)

p.s. not all games installed via the giveaway wrapper lack a shortcut. Most playrix games do install a shortcut.

I was pleasantly surprised that I was able to get this to work on my 64-bit Win7 laptop.

It was a big hit with my daughter - I thought it was awfully cute (and pretty decent gameplay) but I'm sure I would've liked it better if I were in the target audience.

The difficulty was very appropriate for my daughter but was a little easy for me. I appreciated the little touches that kept everything in character (the menu options being stuff in a girl's room, the timer being cosmetic bottles, the locked items being sewn on a quilt instead of having locks and chains, etc.).

............................Moderator Comment.............................

Thank you for your feedback karolb, glad your daughter appreciated this. Maybe if the game was introduced as a game for young girls, the community wouldn't be so negative. :)

Suggestion: Stage 3 Level 3. It would have been nice to get a reminder that we can move stuff into the empty squares. They told us that in the beginning, but if you try to move anything to what I would have called empty squares but were really part of the outline of the playing area, you weren't allowed - until THIS level, by which time I'd LONG forgotten. I remember being really frustrated the first time around because I didn't know why the level hadn't ended.

And for anybody who hasn't played this far, THIS is where it starts gets interesting.

............................Moderator Comment.............................

Thank you for your continued feedback. Sadly a lot of community members would/will make a judgment on the way it looks; so, what is a decent game will often be disgarded.

I don't understand why people are saying it's slow - I'm Windows 7, 64 bit and it's fine (and I consider myself to be picky about speed - if my mouse moves slower than I think it should, then I won't play the game)..... although, after I finish a level, it DOES seem to take longer than it should to ask if I want the next level.

I can't figure out how to make game suggestions. After I type everything in, it brings me to a new screen where it says sign in, sign up, or ... whatever it was I was doing, and asked for my name email address and a captcha code. When I hit submit, it looked like it was waiting for something more from me because there was a red "REQUIRED" under the words I typed. So hopefully you can pass my comments on.
1. Make the graphics less cartoony or more generic looking. This is a really good match 3 game, but the graphics will turn many people off.
2. The hammers.... yes, if I match 3 of them, go turn my tiles blue - I deserve it. But if I plan a strategy to make them match without actually matching them myself, then I think they should vanish without my being penalized. That way, I have to choose which is more important, making matches faster or getting rid of a bunch of hammers.

This is reasonable game for short duration play for me!
These types of games where more fun a long time ago! Be cool if game manufacturs for these types of games would allow user ability to change game pieces pictures like they do for some Mahjong games!
Or, even better, allow for user of the game, the ability to subsitude their own pictures on game pieces I.E. pictures of their kids, mom, dad, hot dogs, etc! I think game might be more entertaining! Longest I've play a game of this type is 1/2 hour of old freeware game called Santa Balls! If game maker allowed substition of our own pictures gee I'd probably play these games longer then ten minutes!

Thanks to #11, Barbara, I tried Fashion Story. Don't be fooled by the childlike graphic- it's more challenging than Match 3 offered last wk.
I actually found the BOLD colorful symbols a real benefit in seeing matches faster, when I usually don't go for timed game versions. Contrary to what society tries to tell us about fashion appearance, this game proves that one can't judge a game by its 1st outer graphics! A Keeper! Thank you developers & Game Giveaway.

I am sure there are some youngsters having fun with this match three. Often as the levels are played, some of the games become very frustrating for the younger set so nice to see a game that seems more geared to them. As for the “the way a woman dresses shows the way she treats the world” it's a game not a life lesson!

I wasn't going to download this and but since people were having troubles, I did just to check it out. I had no problems(Win7 64 bit). May keep it for my niece when she visits as she is the lipstick princess....I have played 6 levels and got 6 lives..that is how easy it is..

As to why people are having problems, I don't know. I have had 2 problems lately with programs and it both ended up being a Malwarebytes program that I had to disable. Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit would not allow Internet Explorer open AT ALL. And then I had bought a license for Hotspot Shield and I couldn't access the website to get to my Hotspot account. I disabled Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and I could get there. Go Figure!

This game does work on Windows 7. I tried it. As usual Netbooks may not launch the game unless you do a registry hack to enable scaling of displays on a netbook or plug it into an external monitor to play.

The gameplay is ok and its your typical match 3 game. However the music background does set the tone for some nostalgic moments when you listen to its audio, while I was matching stuff the music reminded me of playing an SNES or NES puzzle game.

This game "installed" just like other Gamabana games -- a simple winrar self-extraction. I'm running Windows 7 64 Home Premium.

To me, having to make your own shortcut is not a big deal. I do that all the time for anything from MyPlayCity to BigBishGames. Anybody who tries to play games that I can circumvent, I do.

It's a simplistic match-3 but I'll keepit. It's small.

For those complainers about self-extractors. For the minor inconvenience of creating your own shortcut, you have the advantage of a portable game. Since they just self-extract, they don't play with the registry! That's a REAL PLUS!

Okay - instead of doing the taxes I downloaded this game and played the first 2 stages (total of 20 levels).

It works fine on my Win7 Ultimate but is slow like hell - I tried the Low Mode and it's not faster but I will keep it cause it's good for distraction when my BPD/Asperger traits show up.

This feels more like an idea for a match-3 game rather than a fully developed game. The game works ridiculously slow on a decent computer so the coding leaves much to be desired. There's also a hammer that appears which restores blocks when three are matched up (like the fishbones in Big Kahuna Reef) but it does it even if you get them to fall into three, unlike in BKR. The timer, at least in the beginning stages seems pointless and cannot be turned off. There's so much time that it's easy to rack up a free life every round. Although I suspect later levels could be too challenging. And about your only power-up appears to be a purse which works like the hammer in many match-3s and removes a block.

Well, despite saying I wouldn't install it, I did as I thought it deserved a look. The match three part of the game would be good for children but telling young girls that "the way a woman dresses shows the way she treats the world" is bordering on offensive. My advice to the developers would be to have children have fun winning clothes to dress the characters but leave out the idea that clothes make the person.. they don't.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! This is one of my favorite match 3 games! I lost it when my last computer crashed but couldn't remember the name of it (try doing a search on match 3 lipstick shoes mirror and see if YOU can find it! LOL).

The first time GOTD gave this away, I looked at the graphics and thought I didn't want it. But I had free time and I LOVE Match 3's, so I played for a while...... QUITE a while! I don't care about fashion; I don't care about watching her go from Cinderella at her stepmother's house to Cinderella at the ball, but I LOVE the match 3 part. It gets harder and harder to the point where, if I close my eyes, I can still see the level I spent DAYS trying to get through (and my computer crashed....2? 3? years ago).

If you need diversions in your match 3 games, like hidden objects, or using the points you earn to build stuff, this game isn't for you. But if you are they type like me that says, "Just ONE more level," and thrive on knowing you're soclose so maybe you can make it through the next time, you'll love this game.

....................Moderator comment.....................

Thank you for your positive recommendation of this game, and I'm glad its one you were pleased to see again. It has been four years since it was last given away.

I did not have a problem loading and playing this game. Installed on Win XP 3 just like all the other games. The only thing that I do that might be different than others is to make a shortcut of the exe file and start the program from the shortcut but I can't see why that should be any kind of a problem solver. Played the game in full screen and window format without problems. Also could not see much different with the 2 different modes but that could be just my eyes. Performance was similar in either mode.

This is just a simple litte match-3 game that, while I did not care for the storyline, may be of interest to young girls. I'll play further into the game later to see if I run into any new items. Morning chores await me.

I fail to understand why the Game GOTD team keeps making people create their own shortcuts for these. I know a lot of people who aren't tech savvy-enough to do that.
The Game GOTD team creates the WinRAR installers, right? Simply create a shortcut for the game in these folders and add them to the WinRAR archive:

Windows XP All Users Desktop:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop
Windows Vista & 7 All Users Desktop:
C:\Users\Public\Public Desktop

Or even the Start Menu Programs folder instead:
Windows XP All Users Programs menu location:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs
Windows Vista/7 All Users Programs menu folder:
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

I have no idea for Windows 8 (All Users Desktop location) though and cannot find the info despite searching the Internet for a while (and would be interested in knowing that location if anybody out there knows the location!).

Directions?
Go to ("Explore") the current game giveaway folder that the game is installed in (using Windows Explorer):
C:\Games\Fashion Story_game

Right-click (and hold the right mouse button) the "exe" file and drag it to these folders, choosing "Create shortcuts here":
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop
C:\Users\Public\Public Desktop

Then go to those folders and rename the shortcuts from "Shortcut to Fashion Story.exe" to "Fashion Story".
Then simply point to and add those shortcut files to the WinRAR archive when creating it...

Could the Game GOTD team start including All Users Desktop shortcuts?
Just takes a few extra seconds... Thanks for your consideration!

Thanks for your feedback Avid Gamer. I'm sure they have already considered it. Whether it has something to do with the wrapper they use, or the developer has purposly asked for it to be installed like this 'IDK' Maybe they will do somethying about it if enought community members ask. To my knowledge (I've been here since the game giveaway started on the 2nd December 2006), only a few community members have brought the subject up. We are talking hundreds of thousands of downloads over the last six years.

That said, lets not forget that we are getting these games free and from a safe source. :)

Out of curiosity I downloaded the game. It installed fine on Windows 7 (64)
It is a clean installation without icons on the desktop.

The game is very easy and aimed at a younger age group. The movements are quite slow; it is a normal 3-on-row game with a very girlish touch.
I played 5 or 6 levels and I gained a life in every level :-D
In the options menu you can also change to windowed mode.

Could be nice for the (grand)daughters.

I won't be posting a full review of this today. One of the rare occassions I can't get the game to work.

Fashion story:

fashion story 1 640x480
Installation:

Today’s giveaway downloads as a 23.5 MB zip file that unpacks to a read me and a wrapped setup file (the orange colored file with the key symbol), plus there's a setup file with security (setup.gcd) that's protected from being hacked (because the previous giveaway system was easily cracked). This file may case some security software to alert the user to a possible malware attack, but it will be a false positive.

The game giveaway team check all game giveaways for malware using several well known anti -malware suites. There has never been a game giveaway infected with malware since the project started back in Dec 2006. (The owners know that allowing such things would compromise their buisness, so they make sure all software given away via the giveaway and gamegiveaway sites are throughly checked for all types of malware before allowing community members to download any files.

Some community members have been having problems installing games since the security software was added. It's been found that turning off your security temporarily or configuring it to accept the setup.cgd file usually sorts the problem out.

To register and install the game click on the orange colored icon. The installed game is MB in size and installs to the following path by default:

C:\Games\Fashion Story_game

The path can be changed to suit whatever your wishes are. Once the game is installed you can delete the giveaway setup files. The game installs 2 shortcuts to the desktop (a shortcut to the game and a shortcut to Playrix). You'll also find a shortcut in the Start Menu for an uninstaller.

A Request for help:

Developers rely on good feedback to improve their games. If you download this game please take some time once you’ve played it a while to leave some constructive feedback either positive or negative. The more constructive feedback we get, the more likely developers are going to give more games away. The giveaway site already has a very good standing with the search engines. Developers want their products out there on the WWW, this site has the potential to do that. The game giveaway project gives away on average between 9 to 17 thousand downloads for each game depending upon what genre and how obscure the game is. That’s a lot of homes these games are being downloaded into and a lot of 'potential' cash that’s being lost by the developers. If we get better games because of better feedback, the community are likely to continue to benefit from the generosity of the developers. Satisfied community members are then more likely to visit the home sites of those developers and purchase games that they may not have bothered with before they discovered the developer via the game giveaway site, thus giving the developers more incentives to give away even more decent games.

Please leave some feedback once you've checked the game out. It can be positive or negative, but please explain what your reasons were for the feedback you post. You could also leave suggestions for improving the game, for example, this game could do with more block types for the levels editor, add more power-ups, describing the ones you think would be suitable, add some mini games (which seem all the rage in some arcade games now) or enable the user to be able to change the in game music easily.

Thank you in advance to all those who take the time to post a constructive comment.

Regards

Whiterabbit aka Stephen
