Hi iaybin, the last several hours are the quietest time in the comments section. most community members who intend visiting have already done so, so it's unlikely (though not impossible) that someone will respond. The best thing to do is post a request over in the game discussion forums HERE. To be able to post, you will need to create a forum account.

Was quite enjoying the game and was several sublevels into Deep Forest, the second last level when I suddenly got a little window box that says Dump in the upper left corner and: Exceptionaddress 77D5E3BE
Any idea why that might have happened??

Wasn't aware that there is a main game forum available where you can find the (quite difficult) solution:

The game is very nice, but it's getting very slow from level 5.5 on.

Even the mouse pointer is freezing, hindering to finish the levels in time.

I am even using the Turbo Mode in Tuneup Utilities with Win 7 64-bit, Intel Core, 8 CPUs 1.60 GHz, 6144 MB RAM.

Very sad :-((

It's a nice alternative style. I like M3 with the "group" mechanic, because my hand gets tired of click-clicking and dragging tiles. For some of us older folks, it's easier to play. :o)

Hi!

Downloaded easy and set up was easy. Played several layers without incident. The graphics, sound and game play was all smooth and fine!
It is typical of these matching gem games and seems a bit too easy, but could be because I didn't play more levels.
thanks for another good game!

@5 I liked yesterday’s game better than this one. Agree - Yesterdays game and review by the rabbit were excellent! The secret game! Today's game is fair, but not much of fan of match 3 any more! It's good the rabbit mentions option of my free optionsof download web pages for these games!
It's better to get them off gotd, but with dial up
sometimes can't get a big file game before deadline - thanks!
Everyone contact all game web pages and let them know about gotd - maybe we can get more games and thousands of more reviews from the rabbit per week? A Song - Western Movies by White rabbit http://archive.org/download/EsotericButExcellentDoo-wop/WesternMovies-TheOlympics.mp3

I get the impression the game is designed for a slower computer than what I have. I found it impossible to get the endless mode went way too fast and trying to get the combo bonus even once impossible. For a match-3 it isn't bad and it's enjoyable enough on untimed mode.

Well, I don't know what the normally-diligent Alawar were playing at here...

I mean, yes, the 'click-to-match' is somewhat different to the vast majority of match-3's, but if I'm not allowed to strategically match only some of them, then I lose most of what little 'involvement' I get from such games (match-3's are my favourite genre - on my desktop - but I don't tend to get any sense of 'helping the {usually} magical kingdom').

I think WhiteRabbit's comment about laziness is definitely appropriate for this game's production.

Thanks for an earlier answer. I don't know what was wrong last night, but it worked fine today without doing anything different. I enjoyed the game (but, then, I generally enjoy match-3) and I thought the review made the game sound too dull. I thought it was very interesting and more challenging than that. There are parts where smoke covers the screen so you have to clear that before you can make any more matches in the smoky spots and the powerups may be the usual, but they were all useful and interesting. There seemed to be a large mix of them compared to some matching games. I also like the places where you have to unlock or break a silver -- something -- to open a larger board. I played for an hour and don't feel bored - it was pleasant. The screens are colorful. No there wasn't much description of the story, but the unfolding scenes were really nice (if a bit spooky in spots) and I quickly turned off the music as it seemed a little repetitive, but I really found the game a pleasure.

I don't like knocking the games on GOTD but this one is just your regular run of the mill matching game with NO story. Why am I doing this? I have only seen pictures and graphics..No actual story line at all. I am on Level 3 and I don't understand the story. All you do is match. At least in Fishdom I could buy a fish or a plant.

Thanks GGOTD and Alwar for the game...Beats nothing this week.

Hey Wabbit, glad you are almost in/settled...Take care and hug the kids for me.

Thanks Delenn, still loads to do. Not got a proper wprkstation set up yet (well I have for the kids). Will be at least another month before the tiles are laid in my study and then I need a new desk as I've given my desk to my daughter. At the moment I'm sitting on the floor typing from a dining room chair (even the dining room isn't set up yet), with the monitor balanced precariously on top of my computer. Don't like doing that, but there's no where else.

Thanks for the well wishes Delenn. :)

It's beautiful and the music is great. Don't know why others dislike the music so much - for me it was a fantastic improvement over the music in Enchanted Cavern 1. I agree that the victory music is jarring though and needs to conform to the music volume rather than sound FX volume.

I really like the basic gameplay and particularly the variation in goals between the levels. I got all the way to level 6-2 (which means number 37 I guess) before stopping for good.

I have two main gripes which keep me from taking the time to complete the game.

The horrible misclick punishment mechanic makes me wince time and time again. Missing 4-5 times over the course of an entire level is not "chaotic clicking"! Why doesn't the game recognize that I have successfully clicked lots of times between each of those misses, and reset the misclick counter after a couple of good ones? Also, I don't think it's fair to count it as a misclick when you click a group which is actually a valid move, were it not for the darkness encroaching on them.

The ratio of token colours appearing is completely out of whack. Oranges hardly appear at all, reds are uncommon, green are common while blues are extremely abundant. With the narrow passages in many levels, this means that whenever you are dependent on getting oranges deep down to proceed, you are simply out of luck. The few oranges coming will normally get stuck among reds before reaching deep enough, or they get blown up by incidental bombs and other bonuses. This means you will have to rely on those bonuses to get rid of the orange instead. And if those bonuses are already present in another part of the board where there are no valid moves, you will simply never get to them until you manage to exhaust the moves in the rest of the board.

All in all, I don't think it's worth paying 10$ for it, but if those two issues were corrected, I think it would. For free, it's definitely worth your time to check it out.

Hi, I've only had a chance to play this game for 10 minutes, but am already loving it. I really enjoy this type of game and this one seems to be one of the better ones. The graphics are nice and I actually really like the music. I totally zoned out when I was playing it and forgot what I was suppose to be doing on my laptop. Definitely a keeper. Thanks to Game Giveaway of the day for making this available and thanks to Alawar Entertainment, the programmers and developers. Respect!

My suggestion would be to put the victory music in Music rather than Sounds. I don't mind the sounds so much but the music irritates me so I turn off the music, only to get the victory blasting at me after every round. This forces me to turn off Sounds too.

I've seen this type of Match3 before and it makes a bit of a change from the basic swap type which I personally prefer, but a change is nice. However, I'm glad that this game offers relaxed mode since there doesn't seem to be a real way to use strategy and I'm forced to waste time getting rid of random groups, just to create a useable group. However, I find the falling blocks quite relaxing and I'm quite enjoying the game.

Re: Marie (#10)
It looks to me as if they've extracted any other language to release English only. Then they zipped it, then remembered to remove the EN but accidentally left the whole thing in the changed name folder. If you look at the French images in WhiteRabbit's review, they're English only in the game's pc_localization folder. This is, most likely, to lower the size of the download.

Re: Jerry (#12)
I think if you push BROWSE, then go up a file folder to C:\Games, it usually adds the Enchanted Caverns itself. I think this is accurate but I usually like to make a folder myself anyway.

Regarding the runtime errors in comment #2: Every time I've had that happen with a game from here, it's been because either the game or the shortcut were in a folder with a space in the name (or that folder was in one with a space, or so on). Try having the folder somewhere such as C:\Games\ and running it directly from there. I've no idea why it happens with some games and inconsistently at that, but it works when nothing else has. Certainly an easy one to try at any rate!

Re. #13: With 2 files that are empty, that means that your browser hasn't actually finished the download. Odds are good that it never started downloading if both are 0 bytes. If you're running any sort of download manager, try turning that off. You can also try a different web browser to download it as well.

#12: "When I try to install this game it wants to put the program in a directory named Strike-Ball3. This seems really odd the instructions say it defaults to C:\Games\EnchantedCavern2_game. Is this ok or not?"

#13: "When I hit download it saves 2 files but both are empty. (when I try to extract files from zip folder it tells me there are no files to extract)"

Should download/save a file called "EnchantedCavern2.zip", 152 MB (159,911,936 bytes), md5 = 887CE8E75225A4C205CD04BFE2708484 . Unzipped, e.g. using 7-zip, http://www.7-zip.org/ , should have 3 files, readme.txt, setup.exe, & setup.gcd. Running setup.exe [i.e. double mouse click] you should 1st see a message window that it's connected to GOTD, verifying date, & then a WinRAR window to unpack the game files -- WinRAR is just another type/brand of compression like Zip & 7-Zip. The WinRAR window *may* remember the destination folder from the last time you used WinRAR. Various security software you may have installed/running may look inside zip files to scan contents before you get a chance to unpack them yourself. Likewise security software can quarantine or delete files without notifying you -- usually you can find out by checking the security software logs.

Advantages of this games:
1) Two play modes casual and relaxed. I prefer the latter. So I can relax while playing.
2) Similar to the first one which I love very much. Except the picture are different this time.
3) Works on my older PC with Windows XP3. I must try it on my Windows 7.
4) Lovely graphics.
5)Great trophies!
6) Endless added which is really cool after you have completed all 110 levels.

Disadvantages:
1) It is a bit sluggish and slow but still playable. That's probably because my processor is not as powerful, so make sure you have enough GHz to play that game.
2) The music is not very appealing.

Suggestions for the future to the makers of this game:
―Change the music for something nice and more appealing but still not too noisy.
―Make it Processor more friendly. Not everyone can afford to change their computer every year.
―Add some mini-games.
―Add a bit more story but not too long and too much movies as this makes the game too big or too slow.

My rate: 8,5/10. Keep up the good work! And thanks to Alawar and GGOTD. Download this game, it is worth it!

The file I downloaded from GOTD was 2x the size needed -- once expanded by the GOTD setup.exe, the game's folder contains both the game & a zipped copy of the complete game. Save 70 some MB by deleting that zipped copy.

I would like to personally thank Game Giveaway and the game publishers for continuing to provide quality games with no strings attached. There's no BS here as there is on other sites;for example; when you try to download a file or a program, they trick you into downloading some other piece of crap software or sneak something else into the download.

And THANKS to White Rabbit for your continued support and amazing reviews of these games. Your dedication to the gaming community is extraordinary.

Thanks to all

I liked yesterday's game better than this one.

Wait, there wasn't a game yesterday? That doesn't change my original statement at all.

There seems to be no no no strategy to this game at all. You click lines of colors. That's it. You click colors, things fall, you click colors again. You click enough times and eventually you clear the board.

Eh?

It ain't Fishdom!

Decent match-3 game, nice graphics, option for "relaxed" (i.e. untimed) mode for a less frustrating experience. My only real complaint is the volume controls for ingame music and sounds - there's no way to turn it down to a low volume. The volume control appears to go from "loud" to "very loud" rather than soft to loud like most. You can turn it all the way off, but it's very difficult to turn it down to a low level.

Installs/plays fine on Win 8 Pro x64. Like so many of today's games, it installs into a "games" folder off the root directory and does not create icons or shortcuts.

..................................Moderator Comment...................................

You can adjust the volume by right clicking on the volume control (next to the clock and select 'Open Volume Mixer' You can then adjust individual programs via the separate volume sliders

Well, the opening hallway scene looks very nice, however I think I will never know what puzzles await beyond the door because every time it gets there, the game falls off the screen and a Visual C runtime error comes up, saying it was terminated in an unusual way. Is there any suggestion on how to get it to work? I haven't had any problem with any of the games before including the first Enchanted Cavern. Thanks.

...............................Moderator Comment..................

Make sure you are running the game with admin privileges. Just right click on the games exe and select 'Run as Administrator' If you are already in admin mode then try updating your drivers etc. You could also try running in compatibility mode for an older OS and disabling some of the visual components (via compatibility mode).

In Brief:

A Typical match three of the group type (i.e. click on a group of 3 or more tiles of the same color to remove them). With decent graphics and the usual power ups. There's three modes, but two are locked until you've completed the adventure (timed mode) mode. The other two modes are endless (untimed) and puzzle mode.

Enchanted Island 2:

Installation:

Enchanted Island 2 downloads to a 152 MB zip that unpacks to a read me and a wrapped setup activation file (the orange colored file with the key symbol), plus there's a setup file with security (setup.gcd) that protects the giveaway from being hacked. This file may cause some security software to alert the user to a possible malware attack; if it does it WILL be a false positive.

The game giveaway team check all game giveaways for malware using several well known anti -malware suites. There has never been a game giveaway infected with malware since the project started back in Dec 2006. The installed game is 153 MB in size. and installs to the following path by default:

C:\Games\EnchantedCavern2_game

There is no shortcut installed so you'll have to follow the above path to create your own shortcut. To uninstall the game just delete the installed folder (there is no uninstaller). The game works on Win 98, XP, Vista and Win 7 (I've not checked it on Win 8 yet. My Win 8 machine has still not been unboxed from the move and wont be until my study has been finished (still awaiting flooring for most of the house and have yet to decorate virtually every room as the walls are bare plaster at the moment).

The installed game is 73.4MB. We were given the first in the series last year.

Enchanted Caverns 2 003

Enchanted Caverns 2 004

Enchanted Caverns 2 005

Introduction:

It's high time for breathtaking adventures, reckless feats and unforgettable stories! The game Enchanted Cavern 2 resembles fairytales from the magnificent collection of Arabian Nights with their sly pilferers, noble guards and incredible treasures! The story of young vagrant Ali was quite similar to thousands sad stories of other pilferers and frauds, but this boy was luckier than his predecessors, that's why his life story was glorified in legends! Ali's parents died from fever when the boy was very small and the boy's uncle, greedy for wealth, took the house and threw Ali to the dusty streets of the large town. The brought up in luxury child joined the company of notorious brigands and thieves and in 10 years became the leader of this gang. But even being a thief Ali stayed noble and kind, he robbed the merchants and gave money and cloths to all indigent. His uncle died and the house of Ali's ancestors came into possession of the sultanate. Being unable to pay the house off the mortgage, Ali decided to find money to return his house. And he remembered the age-old fable about mystique cavern full of treasures. In the game Enchanted Cavern 2 you are to help the reckless boy get rich loot from the cavern! Click on groups of three or more identically colored tokens to destroy them and remove stones from jewels! Break two or more groups of tokens in a row to create a combo. Creating the combos increases the points' multiplayer. Play the game Enchanted Cavern 2 and help Ali earn a fortune and return his house!

The Game:

The first Enchanted Cavern had good-looking graphics, a sleepy, John Tesh-ish musical score and some fairly predictable match-the-colored-gem gameplay. Enchanted Cavern 2 has all of that, and in fact quotes its predecessor so faithfully in every respect, it might as well be the same game. What differences there are both add and detract from the design of the first game and in the end, the good and the bad are something of a wash.

The first game attempted, however briefly, to create some kind of context with a narrative blurb that explained your reason for exploring a long-hidden enchanted cavern. Enchanted Cavern 2 doesn't bother and just sends you—through a disjointed introductory cutscene—through a temple, down a hallway in someone's house and into a twilit room full of archeological clutter where you inexplicably start matching colored gems. From there, your progress is tracked through a series of dig-site settings that don't make any narrative sense. To be fair, successful match-3 games don't exactly rely on having killer narratives. It's just that here the lazy way the intro is handled foreshadows the lazy way the rest of the game plays out.

Like the first Enchanted Cavern, (and unlike other match-3 titles that have you shifting gems around to create a match) Enchanted Cavern 2 merely has you click wherever three or more same-colored gems appear next to each other. Once matched, the gems vanish and the rest of the gems fall, creating new matches so you can click again. This approach requires very little thought or strategy and because of it, is fairly mind-numbing until mid-way through the game when complicated maps make match-making a bit more challenging.
Aside from this simplification of the match-3 mechanic, Enchanted Cavern 2 fails to bring anything new to the genre. Most match-3 games are built on a handful of foundation blocks: match-3 gems, chain combos, power-ups (like bombs, time-augmenters, horizontal/vertical gem destroyers, and special gems that destroy gems of corresponding color) and obstacles (like unusual map formations or frozen, stone or chained blocks) that must be worked around. Enchanted Cavern 2 dutifully ticks all the boxes by including all these things but the result is uninspired. At least this time the developer tries to shake things up by presenting you with two difficulty options—Casual (with timer) and Relaxed (without timer) and by creating three different game modes: Adventure, Puzzle and Endless.

Adventure mode is equivalent to the match-3 of the first Enchanted Cavern, broken up by scenes of archeological or tropical grandeur. At intervals, these static scenes activate a little bit more, lighting torches and revealing ancient statues. The developer deserves some credit here for creating beautiful artwork; the scenes as they come increasingly to life, are fairly magical. The developer also get a thumbs up for attempting to add interest to the game with its new Puzzle mode (unlockable only after completing Adventure mode) which challenges you to remove all the colored gems from more intricately-contrived maps. However, the developer loses cool points though for the inclusion of a redundant, lackluster Endless mode.
Overall, Enchanted Cavern 2 neither fails to live up to, nor goes out of its way to improve upon, the first Enchanted Cavern. It unapologetically presents some solid match-3 game play and a modestly entertaining new Puzzle mode, and as such, promises a fair amount of fun to players new to the genre. Match-3 veterans and owners of the original Enchanted Cavern however, will find little reason to purchase or play it. (except for additional iterations of match 3 game play)

Conclusion:

Another standard match three of the group kind, with the usual power ups and awards. If you like match threes this is an okay game that's worth downloading, but it's not the best I've played of this type of match three (e.g. 4 Elements, Finding Doggy - both of which can be downloaded free from some of the free game sites).

A Request for help:

Developers rely on good feedback to improve their games. If you download this game please take some time once you’ve played it a while to leave some constructive feedback either positive or negative. The more constructive feedback we get, the more likely developers are going to give more games away. The giveaway site already has a very good standing with the search engines. Developers want their products out there on the WWW, this site has the potential to do that. The game giveaway project gives away on average between 9 to 17 thousand downloads for each game depending upon what genre and how obscure the game is. That’s a lot of homes these games are being downloaded into and a lot of 'potential' cash that’s being lost by the developers. If we get better games because of better feedback, the community are likely to continue to benefit from the generosity of the developers. Satisfied community members are then more likely to visit the home sites of those developers and purchase games that they may not have bothered with before they discovered the developer via the game giveaway site, thus giving the developers more incentives to give away even more decent games.

Please leave some feedback once you’ve checked the game out. It can be positive or negative, but please explain what your reasons were for the feedback you post. You could also leave suggestions for improving the game, for example, this game could do with more block types for the levels editor, add more power-ups, describing the ones you think would be suitable, add some mini games (which seem all the rage in some arcade games now) or enable the user to be able to change the in game music easily.

Thank you in advance to all those who take the time to post a constructive comment.

Regards

Whiterabbit aka Stephen
