This game is tough to beat the time limit. I have completed only 4 of the sets on easy setting - using the 3 bins allows a diff strategy though. Played for about 5 hours off-n-on. The kids mode has the same time, but only diff graphics. I wish it had a leisure setting w/no timer. My kids will only get frustrated at this game. Thanks GGAOTD for the test run, but will be uninstalling.

AI--
Thanks for the link. I'm very impressed that someone actually re-created the real Mahjong game and am excited to see how well it plays. Impressed that it does multiplayer too so you can play with outher real players.
I'm definitely going to check it out. Too bad it's not also available for the Palm as that's the PDA I have.

Great game! But... what's up with the nudie background?! Absolutely unnecessary! If I can't find a way to remove it, I'll uninstall the game. I have children in my home and they do use this PC. The background is just too easily viewed.

For those of you wanting real Mah Jong (the four player kind):

Four Winds Mah Jong
for http://www.4windsmj.com/intro.htm

They also have a PDA version available. I play it on my Dell Axim x50v all the time.

I would put this in the forum, but no one seems to read that.

#79 - I think that a good portion of us Mahjong-on-the-computer fans have figured out by now that the real game is something quite different (as I pull out my case of Mahjong tiles).. ;->

I agree, though, that it would be interesting to see someone do a version of the actual game.

Crabby, THANKS! It was getting pretty frustrating trying to play without knowing the rules. DOUBLEGAMES - you might want to think about adding a more thorough explanation of the rules to this game!

To all these people who say they love Mahjong, have you ever actually played the real Mahjong? Real Mahjong is nothing like this matching game. It's like playing solitaire on a regular deck of cards and calling that poker. That's how far real Mahjong is from these altered Mahjong solitaire games.

I have yet to see the real Mahjong game made into a computer game.

I love Mahjong and have played for years on other software titles. I would like to suggest that the timer be an option as I love to play while working other projects, and play while waiting for for other functions to complete, and even while watching TV. I never do only one thing at a time so this is both fun and relaxing. I would also like other thinking games. Please!

Parents may appreciate being made aware that an EROTIC set is included in the background picture choices. I found this to be a poor quality game over all and give it a rating of 1.

I have tried many Mahjong matching games and count this type of game among my favorites. This one came as a great disspointment. The graphic quality is poor and I feel there should be a warning to parents and grandparents that this software comes with an 'EROTIC' set of back ground images included in the choices. I do appreciate the opportunity to preview the game and wish to thank the game creators for including an uninstaller.

Count me in on the "I'd like the option of a non-timed game" movement. I enjoyed the game and most of its options, but that darn time limit had me just about ready to uninstall, because I was getting so frustrated. I'd like to be able to see if I can figure it out. Volume and music options would be nice, but as it is, this isn't a bad version of MahJong. Thanks GGOTD!

I installed this, played for about five minutes, and uninstalled it. I have a much better version called Anumjongg from MGSoft which was only $10 and is a much nicer game not only in how it plays but in how it looks. Since everyone seems to give x out of 10 points (and unless I know the credentials of those doing the rating I ignore them), I'll give this one a 2/10....and that's a stretch.

ron read the instructions please. This is a full version game. If you don't activate it you'll get the screen at the beginning telling you how long you have left before the demo runs out. If you've activated it correctly, by following the instructions, then it will start with the bright red intro' screen with the samuri sword at the top and Mah-jong tiles in the background.

Thanks for all the links to other mah-jong games. It's appreciated. :)

How come I can't select certain tiles each turn (a fair proportion of them, btw)? Never played mahjong before, so not sure if this game isn't working right on my setup, or the instructions are very poor. Are there rules that dictate which tiles you can select?

The game isn't bad. I like the genre, and I had been waiting for a while for board/card games.
However the graphics are a bit plain, and there isn't a great choice of levels. I think the game is still good for those who are new to solitaire mahjong, but if you already have a good mahjong game you can skip this one.

Just as an FYI to others - I have to agree with those that recommend Kyodai Mahjong - it's an excellent game with great support and more tile sets to look forward to. I've played it for close on 6 or 7 years now and have never regretted my purchase.

Excellent!

I like MahJong Games & usually play at least one every day. This game recives a "thumb's up" with reservations from me. I usually play MahJong to relax and any time limit defeats that purpose. "Kyodi Mahjongg" has more features without time limits. It isn't a free game; but, the only restrictions are the "nag screens". It has always been a "must have" for me.
I'm keeping "Elite "Mahjong" for the time being to "experiment" with. Time will tell how long I keep it. I'm a little surprised "DoubleGames" failed to offer an option to change time-limits.

Thanks GOTD! I am a Mahjongg junkie.

For the best Mahjongg game anywhere, check out Kyodai Mahjongg at http://cynagames.com/

It's a shareware game, so you get reminders which aren't that annoying. I paid for it years ago, just because I enjoy it so much. There's a whole community that creates tiles and new layouts for it, and its creator is always listening to the users and updating the program. It's a must-have for Mahjongg fanatics.

Thanks for the free game. I havent played mahjong very much, but it will be nice not to have to go to yahoo for it. Glad to see its not a tetris or dwarfs game, hehe.

Ive been coming here for about 2 weeks now, and I was just wondering what the largest games have been, that have been given away on here. They all seem to be in the 5mb - 10mb range, one being 30mb since ive started coming here daily. Im curious.

Thanks GGAOTD for the different offering today. However, this is the most disappointing game I've downloaded from your site. I can find nothing good to say about it. I could put up with the crummy graphics etc., but enforcing a time limit on this kind of game is inexcusable.

I also downloaded a free game from this site that was just as bad. I couldn't figure how to get out of the first level after I had accomplished the tasks required.

If these 2 games represent what we can expect from this site, I won't be downloading any more of them. Sorry, Doublegames. :(

Good morning everyone! ;)

Excellent game! Activates and installs like a breeze and plays well.

The tiles are bigger than normal, which makes locating pairs a tad difficult, (not for the elderly though!) but I don't mind the additional difficulty factor. I've played various Mahjong games for years and enjoyed many of them - since they all have differing plays.

4 different kinds of play; classic, flash, kids and erotic.

The kids way is very very cute! Background has a cute happy baby sitting on a cloud. Tiles consist of hand gestures, various smiley faces, donuts and the classic Mahjong set. All in all this is a wonderful introduction to Mahjong for children.

Options are available directly from within the game, which should please kids no end - as they can easily click on the music note and change the music, turn it on/off. They can also change backgrounds to other cute ones, during the game.

I won't describe them all, but I thought that worth mentioning for those that have young grand/children of around 7 or 8. I guess it can also be used as a learning tool, if a parent sits with them and teaches numbers, pictures etc.

I played the erotic style first (blushes) but wasn't met with anything that I'd hate young kids to see. Again options are available from within the game - which is always a nice touch.

The music is relaxing, conducive to a 'thinking' game and of course you can turn it off completely or change it if you like.

I did notice that at full screen, the pictures don't look entirely professional. You can especially tell on the kids tiles, when the edges of smiley faces/hands/etc., are not clean. At a guess I'd say that they weren't created with anti-aliasing and should have been.

That's not really a complaint, just a note to Double Games that when they upgrade, they should really take a look at re-creating ALL the pics on the kids tiles.

BTW all the above comments on graphics apply to only certain images in other types of game play - so the entire game probably needs an image overhaul also.

All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable game - no crashes, which means we can play in total relaxation, not expecting something to happen any second.

Thank you Double Games for joining us on GOTD, we appreciate you being here!

GOTD: Thank you, thank you so much, for finally offering something different in games. This kind of game can be enjoyed by young and old and experienced or novice - a much wider audience than the games you've been offering lately.

I give the game an 8/10 and a HUGE thumbs up. I took two points off only because of the graphics.

Have a wonderful day everyone! ;)

To ZipZap ..#41 .. mahjongg is a very old game that is not difficult to learn but very difficult to stop playing. It is great exercise for your mind, too, particularly when you play a version with different board layouts. I've played Suricate's version for about three years ... wonderful game that still provides challenges.

Again .. my thanks to the DoubleGame folks for this version.
