very disappointed! I downloaded and activated without a hitch-windows 7 64. got the popup about installing correctly which I do with some games on this system, it reinstalled, activated, I started playing to make sure it was activated.
today it is gone from my system! not in downloads, a search doesn't find it. so weird. I have never had this happen before with any download-must be halloween gremlins. guess I am whining. will catch it next time for sure. it looked like such a fun game-not sure why I missed it in the past as I check every day.
thanks for all the great games.

Really now; this is no game. The only way this games wins is due to the fact that it has a whole lot of cheat codes integrated into it's design. Come on, if you want to beat me, beat me fair and square.

I can not stand games that cheat to win.

This game is weird to begin with. Just by it's functionality I can tell there is definitely something wrong with the software.

This is most definitely, a no-go for me. I can find far better arcade games that play fairly against their opponent; especially when you are winning.

Respectfully,

WRC

Downloaded, installed and ran w/o problems using Windows 7. Only played this game for a short time but I liked it. Nice graphics and game play. Nice breakout game. My suggestion to the developers is to create the desktop shortcut into the download. When I purchase a game I expect this. Thanks for the great free gotd! Another nice one to add to my collection.

Hmmmm, we had this problem last week. I don't know why the giveaways are finishing so early. We can only hope that the team will allow these to run again soon for the time they were missed. The trouble with that though is they tend to be run at the beginning of the giveaway preiod for the amount of time that was lost.

I can only suggest that for tomorrows giveaway you check as soon as you get up just in case the same thing happens again. (If you are able)

Again...you've really gotta do something for us folks on the west coast. Some of us have lives that don't allow us to get to our computers until the evenings, and so we miss out on these things! It's not really fair to put these out and say it's a giveaway for the day, and not have it be for the day for those of us on the West Coast. :(

It's only 11 p.m. here...still an hour to go until clock strikes midnight and it's a new day. Can't you do something about your servers to make it fair for us? Really? Missed out on a really neat game the other night, and I'm still bumming over that one!

Window XP, Zemana AntiLogger ver. 1.9.2.515 prompts me to block this program from trying to do key logging. Anyway, I wasn't able to install it at around 10:00 P.M. PST., on Oct 08, 2011. The free giveaway must have expired on Eastern Standard Time 12:00A.M.

I am trying to figure out what is going on? I downloaded it ealier this afternoon, and got busy doing other things. Come back and the game extracted correctly, but when it brings up the page stating that I can leave a comment or whatever once the program is installed, all I got was This Game was given away on Saturday October 8th. My current time here, it is still October 8th and 11:18 PM I also thought that I had 24 hours to install the game and activate it.

Like I stated, it still connected to the key server and ran, but I could see the page because all I got was it saying that this game is not available for giveaway anymore.
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

On with the game... This is a good brick breaking game, and is similar to DX-Ball. I enjoy playing this type of games, and SAWOID is included.

What a challenging game! Have made it thru two levels. Downloaded, installed and registered just fine. The only problem I'm having is using my mouse - I'm an artist, so I use a Wacom table/pen. I forgot how to use my mouse - LOL. So I'm having a little coordination problem at the moment. Love this game and am happy I decided to download. It's a keeper. The music is great. Love the beat. So, thank you GGAOTD and Stars Ashes for this game. Off to try my luck again. Have a good evening everyone.

Likeable game, but it feels a little barebones. However, I'm a sucker for Egyptian theme and found the overall atmosphere to be pretty nice. Graphics won't win any awards, but they're nonetheless fitting, and the lighting used (I had it set to advanced, so can't speak for other settings) nicely gives off the feeling of being in an ancient tomb.

Gameplay starts off much faster than a lot of other Arkanoid clones, which I personally liked. Made it feel like you had to respond more quickly rather than casually watch the ball travel around. It might be a bit of a turn off for people who expected a calmer game.

I also liked having to catch keys to open secret levels. It's nice having another little goal to try to accomplish while clearing the screen.

Physics are decent, but a little bland. You can easily keep the ball bouncing up and down in place, unlike most games that have the ball start moving at an angle at launch. While it can be a good thing (it's nice and easy to control the ball), it can also take away a bit of the challenge.

My biggest complaint is the collision. I've had the ball clip right through the bat multiple times already. It can be pretty frustrating losing a life when I had the bat lined up properly.

Much more of a minor thing, but widescreen would be nice.

For its price, it's a good Arkanoid clone. Overall presentation is decent and gameplay is (mostly) solid with a fair amount of challenge.

Thanks GGAOTD and Stars Ashes!

@Whiterabbit: It's the desktop, with its 64MB graphics card. I'm pretty sure the graphics RAM is not enough for anything made past 2003. The laptop works fine, though I rarely can get on it. And if you're talking about the actual old laptop, that thing was getting power problems, so the hard drive would die out intermittently while running Win2K.

..........................Moderator...................

Ah right. Though it only requires 128Mb system RAM so I wouldn't have thought the graphics RAM would have been the same. 64Mb RAM seems like it should do. By the way, what is the graphics cards socket type? I have an old NVidia 750GS 128Mb RAM that you could have for free if you have the correct socket type (is it AGP?). I have several spares which I'm on the verge of dumping (MoBo's psu's, cables dpu's etc), trouble is the cost of postage would probably be too much to post over to Canada. :(, though I can stretch to a graphics card if the socket type is right.

I've had this game previously and always enjoyed it. Had a PC crash so glad to get this back on my new laptop. I think Whiterabbit's rating of 7 out of 10 is pretty right on. FYI, I have WIN 7 x 64 and it installed okay, I didn't have to make the adjustment as noted in #2.

Thank you Stars Ashes and, as always, thank you Whiterabbit.

The download sizes ar different, but the game looks the same. It's five years old, so is unlikely to have been updated, but the download is not very big so it may be a good idea to reinstall just in case.

Game lags on my computer, as usual. And I wasn't particularly impressed with Sawoid a couple of weeks ago, so I'm not going to be impressed by something that's even older. However, I am messing with the game data (of Sawoid, mostly), and have a mostly working .mes to Wavefront .obj converter, and the settings file figured out. I also have the profile format for Sawoid figured out (though not verified), and I might post that some time.

Level data is in the data\Enemy folder, under the name SubLevels_*.dat and SubbLevels_*.dat. Each SubLevels_*.dat corresponds to a single chapter, with each brick grid represented by an int. The corresponding SubbLevels_*.dat is for the bonuses. I have not experimented with the level data, and am not sure how many bricks there are in each level, so don't ask me how to make custom levels just yet.

As for the models, they don't have texture info built in. You'll have to guess which texture is used. The file name gives clues.

The meshes in LevelData is split into typically two meshes, an environment mesh and a playing field mesh (has _s after the mesh base name). Texture corresponds to mesh name.

So sorry for the late review...

Super Cubes is the bees knees! My son and I have been working with this quite often and it is a great educational tool. Super Cubes definitely helps to develop your relational thinking skills and I believe children as young as 3 or 4 can benefit, even if they just watch the progressions made by an older child or an adult.

Installation was flawless and even after a few dozen plays there have been no glitches. My son loves being able to change the type of block during the game. One does this by "quitting" the game, changing the block style under options, then starting play.

When you start play, any unfinished game can be continued by simply choosing "Yes."

The only fault found, mentioned in a comment above, is in the bombs bonus level: If you are not careful, it's possible to leave a bomb in a single space where it cannot be moved/activated. Apparently, there is no time limit, thus the game won't proceed beyond that point and it's stuck. A pity really. One just must be aware of this and NOT let the situation happen!

The manufacturer needs to fix this problem. Being a programmer and beta tester, I was quite surprised it wasn't caught. But that's why we're here evaluating on GGOTD!

We give Super Cubes 9 out of 10. Great stuff!

game runs under windows 7 64 bit normally. your graphic card might not support some basic hardware acceleration functions if you can't run it.
the only problem i have is that under windowed mode if i switch to the desktop, the game most likely will freeze. this game was made 5 years ago and even though it is still very fun to play, it is a bit dated.

Hello to all, Happy Thanks Giving (Canada)
I downloaded game on Vista 32 bit with no problems at all. Played several games as I am new at this type of game. Did not have any errors etc. while playing. The graphics are great and game play is challenging enough for me right now. Music is nice but I prefer to just turn it off I find it rather distracting. I have only made it to level 4. but there are a lot of power ups and things available for an interesting game. I give it a big thumbs up! Thanks GAOTD and Stars Ashes I know I will enjoy this and hopefully move through all levels as I improve.

An example of the frustration of not being able to save the game. I was almost finished with level 8 of the first temple and only had a few pieces left to remove when I lost my last life. Now I have to play through the entire 8 levels again in order to reach a save point. Other than this I like the game.

Not very challenging... just start off on the far left or right, release the ball and so long as you remain to the far side, there is no slight randomization of applying an angle on the hit so it keeps going straight (unlike Arkanoid). Used this strategy for every level... moving out of the way to avoid certain death. Even then, the ball doesn't automatically speed (unlike Arkanoid) and controlling the ball is too easy to get it to where you want. In short, too simple mechanics with no arcade feel (unlike Arkanoid).

I've been playing this game on and off for some time. I wish it had more levels, but I wait between times I play, and it seems almost new again. It's one of my favorites (there are many), I'll be replacing my computer soon, and hope you'll have this again. Definitely worth a try, if it's your type of game.

It tells you that no shortcut is installed so you have to go to where the game was installed (i.e. C:\Games\Egyptoid), then create your own shortcut from the exectable. Just like Sawoid , this giveaway gives a black screen on Launch, I am using a Netbook, of course and the only option possibly is to plug the Netbook into an external monitor and allow the game to run normally, reducing the resolution to 800x600 and then go from there. However the error upon launching the game when you hit ALT TAB it says FAILED TO INIT SOFTWARE VERTEX PROCESSING. The chipset that is in this Netbook is the Intel Media Accelerator 3150. Now this chipset has the capability to do hardware transform and lighting with software pixel shaders with the right drivers however many OEM's have chose not to use these drivers due to the fact that there are still many compatibility issues to iron out. If these chipsets such as Intel Media Accelerator 950 and Intel Media Accelerator 3150 can run Windows Aero smoothly , it's no excuse for this game developer not to properly support these chipsets properly in their game.

So please, to the developer, release a version of the game where you are friendly with Netbook computers, and have the game detect it and launch in a screen default res of 800x600

I had downloaded this back in March but never could get it to run on my Win 7 64-bit machine. When I saw it was available today I deleted the old files for the game and downloaded it again. It works this time. I too don't like the fact that you can't save the game and, if you die, go back to your save point. You can suspend the game which allows you to start the game back at that point after exiting. However if you die you have to replay the entire 8 games in the temple as WR stated. I got this game several years ago on another computer and it is one I have enjoyed. Thanks
