I was very disappointed that day, I tried all day many many times and your site was jammed. Must have been a busy day. I was looking so forward to downloading this game. Will it be available again anytime soon? I hope so.

I did finally get this file to download, but I found the game play so confusing that I deleted it from my hard drive. It is a very pretty game, but takes a lot of patience unless you like this type of play. It moves very slowly, so instead of going quickly into the adventure, what I found myself doing was trying to fill the blankety blank watering can with water for the cucumber (never did find the water). It wasn't interesting to me to continue. So I didn't.

I'm so mad i missed this download, i've been wanting this game forever.

Nightowl, I missed the three holes the first time also. They're in the second set of binoculars to the left of the first pair. Just go slow, and the spyglass will appear. Luv this game.

I downloaded and installed this game when it was offered last weekend, but after playing half the game I can no longer move ahead as there's a glitch in it. I got as far as the Belvedere, but the binoculars will not give me the clue I need to move on to the next scene. I thought maybe I had missed something along the way, so I googled for a walk-through and I have done everything correctly up to this point, and I followed the steps used by the writer of the walk-through about using the binoculars but Carol never says she sees the 3 green holes and that she knows were to go, therefore, I do not get another place added on my map that I can go explore. I had spent nearly three days retracing her steps in hopes that I would find something I had missed before I resorted to looking for help from someone who has played the game before, only to find that I had not missed a thing, that there is a glitch in the game, and that I know that I can't download and reinstall the game because of the 24 hour limit.

The game took me over two hours to download, with a dual core processor, two gb of memory on a Dell XPS and with no other programs running except the download, which was bad enough, but to then get a lousy copy really sucks. (I used my old laptop to play another game while I was waiting for the download to finish.) If I went to big fish and bought the game, how do I know I wouldn't get another corrupted file? After I got the walk-through, I went to a gamers' site to see if anyone could help me with a workaround and several people there said they bought the game online and got a corrupted file too, so that makes me leery of buying it online.


I am disappointed in the game for other reasons as well. Carol rarely ever interacts with other characters, and those she does meet are just still pictures of people. It would be far more more interesting if she met and interacted with other characters, even if they played no role in giving her clues to solve the mystery.

I like the fact that you can't see her character, you are Carol, so you see through her eyes, but you can only pickup or look closely at items that will help you solve the mystery. It would be nice if Carol could pick up extra things within her view also, like the photos in her home, even though they would be "red herrings" in the mystery, it would help build her character and that of those people she meets along the way.

It's really odd that there is never anyone on the streets or anywhere she goes, except those few people who give her a clue here and there; it's like being in a world alone after a nuclear disaster. The concept is very good, but as I said, there is a too much missing for me to give it five star rating on any level. Since I can't finish the gave because of a major glitch with no workaround, I have to give it a two and half stars for ease of use. I would give it four stars for the ideas put forth, three stars for playability and one and a half stars for character development.

Adventure games are usually fun in my book since they allow you to use you head, not a joystick, and they help you to think analytically, about the plot of the mystery, instead of requiring you to run away from someone, jump over something or to shoot at someone or something which any halfway coordinated monkey can do. Most older folks, like myself, want something more realistic to do than chase aliens or rob banks, and my friends and I all want something which stimulates our brain cells instead of our heart rates.

Very cool game. Downloaded and installed great. BUT, got to a point in the game where it froze!! I even went back and tried it again. Major disappointment...anyone else experience that??

I hate to say this, but I gave the game a big Thumbs down. Reason? Well, for SUCH a huge file, and the time taken to download, it's a pity that the game is a one time play. Nice and engaging, but what to do when you finish it??? I must say I am glad I am not paying for this. Nice graphics really, interesting way of hooking up the player, (i couldn't help myself). But only a one time affair...

Downloaded it after 10 or so hours of trying [on ComcastCable, with DownShift d/l manager.] Starting installing. Fell asleep sometime after midnight. Next morning, no East Side Story to play with.

IT AIN'T FREE IF YOU SPEND 11 HOURS ON IT! Certified Pulbic Accountant's billing rate is $300+ per hour. [I'm a CPA.] I would like a refund of my $3000.

I tried to download this (took forever) and then the .zip file was corrupted. When I tried to go back, the web site was unavailable. Oh well, looks like I'll have to buy this one to keep the kids happy.

Managed to download the zip file and extract the programe, but could not connect to activate the program. I downloaded again and unzipped ( assuming that the first go was corrupt)and had the same problem.This all took place over about 8 hours. At 2 am I went to bed and for some reason woke at 4.30. Time to try again to connect. At 9 am I was informed that I had connected but that the game was no longer available.So basically I wasted a day trying to active the game. Just a tad miffed to put it mildly, but hey ho thats life with GAWOTD an otherwise Excellent site.

Never could get this to down load even with a high speed connnection.

I sure will be glad when you go back to giving a game away every day and not just on weekends. I would have loved to of gotten this game buy hubby and I were so busy this past weekend and I missed out on this game, darn, darn, darn!

I was really looking forward to this game, but I downloaded it and when i went to extract it, it said there were no files to extract, and then it said that it was corrupted...

I found it funny that some people actually coulndt downloas this 500mb file. I found it a bit slow of a download, but other than that, it activated, installed, and ran fine! I wonder if where a person lives has anything to do with it. I live on the West coast, and I never have any problems with a server being down. While reading the comments I read where people said the server was down. Every time I tried to test to see if the server was down, it was always up and running. I saw no plobrems except for a slow download. Twas a good game! Much better than the useless screensaver that was on the GAOTD site!!

I am very disappointed with the "East Side Story" download. I spent all day trying to download and NEVER got thru. My computer and my internet connection was tip top but your website must have been jammed. That's too bad I was looking forward to this game. After wasting a whole day I did not succeed. Would this game be offered again anytime soon? Thanx heather

I have gotten several good games from this site, but I was really excited about this one. I stayed up late to download it and then when I tried to activate it, I got an error box saying the "setup.exe file has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." I was really impressed with this giveaway and since it has gone to only weekends, I am excited at the better offerings. But then once my appetite has been wet, I end up having nothing and have to wait till next weekend. Hopefully, this will be offered again so those of us that went through the work and had problems will get another chance. Please ;)

Wow, too big for this little old lady and her quota of 10 gigs for the month (which is nearly over) - Ah well, such is life.

I'm so disappointed about what happened with this game. I was looking forward to it immensely, love Carol Reed games, and it downloaded fine, but would not start up. It was always stuck on "Starting..." so I'm really bummed that I can't play it. Hopefully you'll offer it or a similar game again.

took 38 hours to download. when finally complete...got errors..was unable to execute..something about a damaged archive file?

Just finished Death on the Nile and loved it...was really looking forward to this one. Suggest you break it up into smaller pieces for downloading.

Firstly it took 1hr 45mins to d/load, no problem.
However activation took 6 attempts!!
Seems to have taken 1.5 gig of h/drive.
Eventually succeeded and have played the game, but only for a short while. Wonder if it was worth all the hassle etc...!!

However have no complaints of GGOTD.

I was rather disappointed that last evening that the activation service WAS INACTIVE FOR SEVERAL HOURS last evening. I downloaded it, and finally when I had downloaded the 500+ MB file, it was for nothing, the activation procedure hanged. I tried multiple times.
So we in fact didn't get 24 hours to activate.

This looks to be a fun game. I look forward to solving the mystery. Long download but I'm thinking well worth the wait. :)

I really, really, really wanted this game. Downloaded it, and it refused to connect with GGOTD's site to activate - kept hanging on "starting". Tried to download it onto my kid's computer, and the same exact thing happened, so perhaps there was a burp in the server somewhere.

I hope you offer it up again - I'm so bummed we went through all the time and effort to download it, only to get it to hang on installation.

Tried and tried , couldn't get the game. first stopped at 299k
Then it was downloading so slow it would have taken 2 days.
I'm using fios and usually could do a file that big in 20 minutes.
please run it again, or so the rest of us can try it.

Got it downloaded last night and can finally comment on the game itself. I love it! Had to find a walkthrough to get me started though. Very good graphics and the story so far is great. I look forward to solving this one!

finally got the game to download but could not get it to unzip, kept getting that blasted file corrupt error message.

What a miserable experience. Couldn't contact site most of Saturday or Sunday. Finally got a download I forget when and of course, since it's Monday, I can't install it. Your site is simply not worth the effort. I've not gotten one damn piece of worthwhile software in the two weeks I've watched the site.

Had a problem wth the d/l site yesterday. Zip I d/l wouldn;t open and wasn't complete. Tried to d/l again and couldn't connect to the d/l site. When I finally did get the file d/l'd the activation time was past. Oh well, guess I wil have to try to d/l and install this game the next time it's offered.

I finally got the game downloaded only to get the "offer has expired message" at setup, too. Only reason I'm posting this is in case GGOTD is contacting those that had problems. Since they haven't posted anything to the messages besides the one stating the download is working again, I doubt I'll hear anything though...

...a good part of the world does not have broadband/quick-like-a-bunny internet service. most of us do not have new whiz-bang computers and wont be getting them anytime soon. glad people tried to help each other with the download problems...hope its a good game! happy passover happy fullmoon

Cant believe that, time remaining 6 minuets estimated download time 6 minuets, and I made it just in time for the activation to still work. Only played a lil of it but its easy enough to play yet intriguing enough to keep me interested. Plus its a nice change from most of the games I play, would recommend getting if its ever on again.

Wish I had been able to download it! I tried repeatedly during the day and was unable to complete the download :o(( I take it that your not going to extend the download time for this game for those who could not download it due to the server being overloaded?

#150 I usually copy the whole folder it was installed in (find this under Program Files (not Programs) right click on start and open Explor). I havae done this with other games, so you don,t have to install it again just play from the cd disc. Good luck. Im still waiting for it to download. Looks like Ill miss out, if they don't extended another 24 hours.

This game has really nice scenery in it and being half-Swedish I enjoy the Swedish accents of the people. Glad I had cable internet to download it with.

I cannot download. I have had this problem other times in the past. I have tried off and on for the past hour and all I get is Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage.

Any suggestions when this happens?

I got it downloaded and went to play but in the walkthrough it talks about the map, so you can go different places to explore. I can not get out of the "garden", have no map and when I click on save game, it does nothing, as the list is blank! Can someone explain to me why I have these problems? I would love to continue on with the game.

Not sure if I can finish the download before the time runs out. Still have 60% left about 1hr 15min but only about 1 hour left...

P.S. to #152 - Jeff - I lived in the country in Arkansas so I know what you mean. House I was in was two "doors" from the end of the line for cable. Would have been a bundle to get them to extend it and they didn't want chickens or milk for payment.

I downloaded successfully (using Flashget), unzipped, but when I run the setup/wrapper it tells me that the download has expired. The site says I still have 2 hours/54 minutes (well, when I looked.)

I hate having to go through a large download and then have this happen.
