This is a good game. Graphically it is a bit dated and the storyline is just bad, but the gameplay is excellent. With a wide variety of towers and the long upgrade paths each has, there is a lot of different ways to go about defeating any particular level. The only true gripe that I have is that it can be difficult to see and target enemies when there is so much going on at once, even with the effects turned down low.

Is it worth the sticker price? I'd have to say no. Lower it to $10 and it would be a good value, but $22 is too high.

What is your problem? Do you think that it's better to complain that you didn't get something for one day that you had already been getting for months, or that you got something for the first time in months?

A great game! Something I wasn't expecting with those screenshots. Spend couple of hours playing it... everything went smooth, except when I was quitting the program - it takes lots of time to fully exit the game.

Lockett, just what IS your problem? You complain about people complaining, and then you complain when they don't complain. Um, go back to get and get up again... 365 times. Lol! Thanks GGAOTD... still reading the intro on this one.

Good game, can get lots of eye candy on the screen, even though, as others have pointed out, graphics do not seem as top-notch as recent games. I like it, but admittedly, it is a hard game.

@Whiterabbit, thanks for putting your full" review as a link to the forums, instead of the comments section. To me, either way is not a bad thing, although I think this makes it look less cluttered, and if you continue to do that on a daily basis, I think it *might* help to reduce a lot of complaints/comments that are not about the game. Keep em up, and as I've said before, I do not base my decision on your review, but I do like to read, and so typically read every comment, and d/l almost every game anyways. However, I do know a lot of people DO base their decision on your reviews, dialup, etc.

Thanks

"Thank god, finally all the [BLEEP] stops about match 3 games.
Those of us who like those are made to feel guilty when one is posted.
But you don’t see us run over here and whine that we didn’t get one."

You're right - I don't "see you run over here and whine that you didn't get one". Why? Maybe it's because you have had match-3s and other clones for three months straight! Allow me to use an analogy:

Johnny and Jimmy are brothers. Johnny hates Corn Flakes, and Jimmy loves them - vice versa with Rice Crispies. Their mom starts buying only Corn Flakes for a month. Johnny wants something else, so he asks his mom to get Rice Crispies. She keeps buying Corn Flakes. A month later, he asks again, and Jimmy tells him, "DON'T ASK FOR ANYTHING ELSE, IT'S FOOD, AND IT'S GOOD!" Their mom keeps buying Corn Flakes. Another month goes by, and he asks again. Jimmy tells him that he's being mean to their mom because he wants something different. Two days later, their mom buys Rice Crispies. Johnny is ecstatic, and eats half of the box. Jimmy, however, sits in a corner and cries about how he didn't get Corn Flakes, and how Johnny is always yelling at him to shut up.

Do you see my point? This site is "Game Giveaway of the Day", not "Match-3 Giveaway of the Day". How about following your own advice and waiting until tommorow?

"Those of us who like those are made to feel guilty when one is posted."

Excuse me? Nobody minds when somebody likes a match-3, but watch out if you complain about one! People are all over you saying that you're ungrateful and that you should get off of the comments. Your statement is the exact opposite of the true situation.

Not a fan of this one, and I loved Master of Defense. Graphics are headache inducing... gameplay is too twitch oriented for my tastes. Some strategy, but more about reflexes.

Thanks for a different game. I have never played one like this before, took a little time, read the guide and will keep for a bit. The download was quick, setup was easy and playing just fine on my Windows XP. Not sure why people call this a 'tower-game' but it is interesting. The music is very welcoming and the story-line explains much. Thanks for offering a game again ... was worried the past few days and no offers avaiable - "YOU" are appreciated !

Very nice game, definitely a keeper. This game is a good demonstration of the potential of the independant game devellopers who dare to make games that aren't either mainstream or casual.
It might not appeal to everyone because of the difficulty and the aggressive graphics, but if you like action games and good science fiction stories, do not hesitate to try it.

It's a repeat

http://game.giveawayoftheday.com/immortal-defense/#comments

Then it got 82% thumbs up as well as lots of fawning comments. Some of them clearly ridiculous and some highly suspect. Most of those that think highly of the game have clearly never played more intricate then a variation of Pong or Solitaire.

There you can even read lots of comments by the programmer.

It was bloated then and it's bloated now. I personally find it very un-pretty and annoying looking but *shrug* there's no accounting for taste.

For a quick run down of the game you can always read comment 45 on there to get a general impression of how good/bad it is.

#6 and #8 -- if all you're going to say is "bad game" just stick with clicking on the thumbs down. Use the comments place to BE MORE SPECIFIC. These comments should help other consumers and I'm sure the game maker too. "bad game" doesn't tell anyone anything useful.
I got this game the last time it came around, pretty good game.
Not the same as M of Defense, but I wouldn't want them all the exact same anyway. Definitely worth the price! ;)

I have this game from the last time it was given away, and it is still awesome. I think this game is far, far better than Master of Defence (which is also enjoyable).

It requires more thinking about placement of pieces, and keeps you busy all the while instead of just letting you wait for enough money to get that next upgrade or tower. The tight balance of the difficulty is also very good for me, many times I've succeeded at a level but had to replay to retain enough of my cache for the next one.

The story is... original. And that is a good thing I think, but I understand why some people get weirded out by it.

Thumbs up, way up!

If you like Master of Defense so much, why not buy the game?

In any case, this was one of the more interesting Tower Defence games that I've seen from a graphics and story perspective, that remains plausible throughout the game. It also doesn't leave you helpless in the event that you misplaced a tower, since you can still attack with the mouse cursor.

Most tower defense games simply involve placing towers and watching the associated cutscene unfold. This isn't one of them.

I got this first time round, and although I can understand why people say "bad game", I want to stab them for it :P I loved this game, but you *have* to get into the story line. It is a very abstract story with doubles into itself and is simply mind-blowing. I also love the logic used into the higher levels of gameplay, as well as the music choice. I generally love its mysterious feel. The one and only problem I had was that in the secret levels once you have finished the game (which is really quite difficult on medium) there is no level select for the secret levels. Trust me, if you get this game, watch out. It's damn addictive. Just make sure you play for about 15 minutes before you put it down, because the early levels are relativly dull for you are still learning how to play.

It's nice to see GGOTD is back. And with a great game, too!

This game is a great way to kill an hour or two. Some of the people here have called this a "tower building game," but I don't think that's a good way to describe it. It reminds me more of the classic "Missile Command" with a strategic twist. Where the strategy comes in is in placing your assistants properly at the correct chokepoints; if you don't learn how to use these assistants correctly, you're going to be annihilated.

By the way, special mention goes to this game's music, which is FANTASTIC. Normally, sound design is my biggest complaint on a game like this, but the developer put some good production values into the music on this time. Kudos.

I almost did not download this game due to the screen shots. However, reading the reviews and following the links that Whiterabbit put up as well as some positive feedback here allowed me to see that this game might be worth trying out. So I took a chance and downloaded it.

Installation was flawless. Activation flawless. Start up flawless. No technical problems with the game so far at all... I am running Win XP Home Edition, service pack 2, AMD 2400+, 2.01 GHz, 1 GB Ram, NVidia Geforce 7600 GS.

I have only played the first 5 screens... I haven't time to do more right now. It is a lot different for me than Master of Defense (which I really liked and wish there was more levels) so it took me a minute to orient myself to the differences. But once I got the game nuances straight in my head, it was an enjoyable play. I actually like the way the cursor fires at the enemy and will follow the enemy it is firing at, rotating while it fires if you hold it steady. That allowed me to strategically position my cursor to pick off the most enemies, only zooming over to the end run when one slips through both my cursor fire and the tower fire. The difficulty level that the game is initially set at is high enough for me until I learn this game and practice a bit. I think it a great addition that the difficulty can be fine tuned on a slider bar.

I look forward to having more time to get into this game. I recommend it... don't dismiss it cause of the screen shots. Download it and try it out. You can always delete it if you don't like it. In my opinion it is well worth the effort to try it out, since the install is so straight forward with no jumping through hoops to get it to work.

Great game, RPG Creations. Thank you!
