Yes Jarkydrapedoor! I got it from here i never had that happen before. I thought maybe it was already on my system or something but no it came when i downloaded the game from here. Like i said it came up with things to purchase and told me how the money i spent would go to this site and helping keep the games, software etc free. It even had a link back to here to donate money.

At the very end, right after you freeze the gient gold baby thing... even if you have the sound turned off... it will revert to full blast. It's easily solved, all you have to do is go back to option controls... but it's a tad annoying.

I enjoyed the game quite a lot, but was finished it in an afternoon. Would have enjoyed it more if it was longer.

This game has a small error that I have found, In the bank, on the second round, the bow tie is labeled Butterfly.

The room below the bank, on the second round has a butterfly labeled bow-tie.

I'm enjoying the game, but thought you guys should be made aware of the small error.

This is in the game, Deadly Voltage. Game was freebie on April 26th 2015

Now played far enough to be able to comment somewhat helpfully with a mostly positive review. Download was very quick; I experienced (for the first time ever here) the delay in launching while it checked as others have reported, but after that, the install was quick and play so far has been smooth. You know I LOVE these "adventure/HOG/puzzle games" and in spite of the first review mentioning that it was too simple, I didn't find it TOO simple, just simple enough to flow smoothly (last week or week before---they mix in my mind---was TOO simple). I do agree that, while I like HOGs, there might be a tad too many HOGs here. The upside is they give me a good point to take a break so I don't just play through for hours :).

A few times I've had difficulty (another first for me) in getting an item placed properly. SPOILER: I couldn't place the gas can by the car for the longest time, for no discernable reason, and finally, it worked.

Also, though I very rarely use the Hint button, once in while when I do, it indicates that I should do something for which I don't yet have the proper item. For those who want it, there is a You Tube series of walkthroughs; I far prefer written walkthroughs and it can be hard to find the one little piece you're not sure of.

Overall, a really fun game if you like this genre (which I DO!); solid 7.5 or 8's all around. Thank you, GGOTD and WR!

Download and extraction without problems. Nice game, played it yesterday to the end. Again some objects were named wrong, I would suggest that Alawar people use dictionary more often. It is darn annoying when you play HOG!!!
All in all nothing very innovative, but one of nicer HOGs. Overall I would give it 8 points.

Download took about 30 minutes. Installation was a bit slow, but expected considering the file size.

Now booted to Linux (64 bit OS) and the speed is superb. There's no delay at all between screens. Loading is instant. Having a new SSD helps with that, but Alawar seems to have this packaged very well for these results.

Nice offer but kept getting "greater than 12 hours for download time" with a hi-speed connection :(

...........................Moderator Comment..................................

Having a high speed connection doesn't guarantee a fast download if hundreds of other users are downloading from the same server. The bandwidth is shared between all those that are downloading. Today's game was quite large, so it wpuld take longer for it to download, which means more community members would be using at the same time, so slower downloads.

There's a bug after putting the key in the furnace and then clicking on hint while still in that area... hints everywhere from there won't work. Course i could've just used my max on hints. Anyway, the game is interesting and different and love the music. It's probably the first time I played a alawar hidden object game with a different music author. I haven't heard many tracks. It'd be nice to get more from this artist. The overall atmosphere is nice too. Nice attention to detail, good cutscenes.. The game has a huge filesize so I'm sure there is a lot more to it than I've seen so far. Thanks for the host and the playthrough.

Hi,
It took awhile to download with 8.1, but set up and ran smoothly. Like the graphics and atmosphere. A little
too of the same going back and forth to the scenes to get needed items to move on, but a very nice game!
Thanks for another good game! Have a good week!

Downloaded and installed just fine on Windows 7, 64bit. Used DownThemAll for Firefox to download.
Much better graphics than some of Alawar's other hidden object games. Good length for the game, can finish it in a day of casual playing.
Good ending, left it open for a sequel.

I had this game before and played and finished it. Thought i would download this to play again. Unzipped easy but along with the game the program "Software Informer" came with it. Which wanted to go in my start menu. It showed me lovely things to purchase for money online. And also that 50% of the money would go to this site.

I have never had commercials and ads and such before from this site. Now i see you are going just like the others. Not happy i deleted the game and ad ons.

I had to download twice as first time would not unzip. Second download worked but install was painfully slow in Windows 8.1 machine. I have never had any trouble with any other Alawar game in the past. Ample RAM on computer, so I'll chalk that up to a fluke. I only played briefly but it performed well.

.............................Moderator Comment............................

There has been a higher than normal traffic for today's game (around 11 thousand downloads so far). The giveaway servers bandwidth was probably bottlenecked due to the large file size, with many community memebers trying to download. Bandwidth is shared equally between whoever is downloading at the time, so the more downloading, the slower the download.

As expected, another cracker from Alawar. I particularly like the graphics in this one: very atmospheric!

I expect the usual zipping around to sort everything out, but then that's the fun of these games!

Many thanks to all concerned in bringing us today's game!

LOVE these games: downloaded first time AOK on my DSL connection.

About to install it; will hope to post more later, but really with one of these Alawar HOG/adventue style games, one can rarely go wrong, so thanks to GGOTD and Alawar (again!).

PS to whiterabbit: you might want to change the 'Problems' section in your 'first post' as it's now mentioned tha same game three times over; and currently refers to 'Star Defender' alternatives (!).

Absolutely using a download manager when ever a site will allow, sometimes on browser updates have to manually copy and paste in the URL, but well worth the effort, if not it usually defaults to browser downloader, O.K. but not nearly as good. FDM very good, always updating, used Orbit (Koram Games)for years, but it was hogging bandwidth lately so got rid of it, no response to my requestsd for help. FDM has good regular version, not ready for the newer version. 5.0 yet.

.............................Moderator Comment............................

I use Internet download Manager (IDM).

A friend recommended it a while back while it was on a deal. Really pleased with it. If a site doesn't allow DM's it defaults to the browser DM. You can set it to download in up to 16 segments, so its very fast. I usually have it set to 8.

Not a very enjoyable game. Besides the too often usual requirement to set my dual monitor system in clone mode (tying up both displays), it is slow on an i7 16GB system. Mostly the mouse movements. But the real drag is the need to hit a specific tiny spot with an inventory item to get it to work. By the time we got tired of trying different things and used the hint to find out what would fix the cut wires beside the tape, only to find tape would only work but only in a tiny spot, we were done. If the rest of the game was like this, then we are miles ahead quitting now. Thanks anyway.

I sometimes get frustrated at games that make me hop back and forth but it doesn't matter with this game. It is Alawar and I trust that company and White Rabbit to provide games that someone in my family will enjoy. I may even like it. I haven't downloaded yet but I sure will as soon as I finish this comment. I downloaded the game yesterday for other family members and then I played it about 7 times, so I never know. Thank you White Rabbit for getting us any games from this company, and all the others, too.

Hi Stonebec, I don't get any of the game, I just write the reviews, give advise on great gaming deals, moderate this comments section and administrate the forums. The giveaway team are soley responsible for getting the actual games. I used to beta test for Alawar (last game i beta tested was Strike Ball 3 way back three or four years ago), but that's about the closest I've got to Alawar. Before I became a beta tester for them I used to leave comments about every game I purchased. As a thank you for commenting regularily (I used to leave quite long comments with suggestions for improvments etc), one year they sent me a goody bag full of items such as a wall clock, a messenger bag, a calendar and a large mug, all with the Magic Ball 3 motiff. :)

Got the same error as Cliff. When I double-click setup.exe, I get, “failed to launch the program.” Running XP SP3.

.............................Moderator Comment............................

Hi Sarge, Check the FAQ's that I link to in my review (see comment 1). It's a common problem since the giveaway team included the security file setup.gcd. Usually its the security on your computer that blocks the launch. The only way around this is to turn off your security temporarily. It's up to you; but I'd suggest you do especially if you want todays giveaway. Just to give you some positives (and put your mind at rest), the game giveaways have never been infected with malware since the project started back in Dec 2006. We were given games daily until April 2008 and ever since usually two games every weekend, though there are times when we only get one game and occasionally none at all. We are talking well over a thousand games given away since the project started, so you should feel safe disabling your security temporarily. as soon as the game is registered, turn your security back on. If that doesn't solve the problem, check the FAQ's thread over in the game discussion forums, there are other fixes, but the security fix is the most likely.

Windows 7 64 bit - no problems downloading and installing. I like this type of game and this one if very nice. Installed fine and plays smoothly. It's not overly easy like some of this genre are. It's making me think, which I like. I like that it has a system cursor option.

I did not care for the tutorial arrows at the beginning because they insisted that I click on whatever they were pointing at. I did not want to click on the hint button but I had to to move along. I did not check to see if the tutorial can be turned off before starting the game. It may have that option.

The game is engaging my interest and I give it a thumbs up.

FWIW, The GOTD setup usually expands the packed setup file into memory, then the install routine unpacks the files & copies them into place, so you might be dealing with ~1.5GB before you're done. If you've got less RAM available that can mean writing the overflow temporarily to disk, which slows things down, & unpacking or expanding compressed files is a CPU intensive task -- so much so that it's sometimes used to test & benchmark CPUs & systems.

AT any rate the lengthy time to install likely isn't because something's broken or Alawar did something wrong.

Downloaded in about 10 minutes over my cellphone connection, extracted to Games file and works fine on my W7 Home edition laptop. Like that it has options to choose hints or no hints. Played for about 15 minutes. Also like that the intro storyboard is quick - you only have a couple continues to click, not like some games where you have a whole long series of "next"s to click thru. Enjoying it so far...

Downloaded and installed just fine on my Win7 64 bit machine. The download took just over 3 minutes on my cable connection. No shortcuts or uninstall so remember where it installed in order to run it and just delete to uninstall. I only had a few minutes to try it but the graphics are very nice and the game proceeds well. Regular mode hints reload very quickly. Items that require an action (for example: a lighted candle) are in a different colour on the item list. Will play this later tomorrow but so far I am very happy with this game.

DOWNLOAD STOPS EVERY TIME I TRY TO DOWNLOAD. ARE THE FOURTH ATTEMPT.

.............................Moderator comment...........................

Try using a download manager. There are free ones available. If the download stops a download manager usually saves at the point the download stops, so when you resume, you don't have to start from the bveginning. some download managers will also download via several packets then stitch the files together automatically. This method usually results in afaster download for the recipient, but does put more of a load on the servers.

I had a fairly fast download but an extremely slow extraction process (on my Windows 8.1 lap top). If it appears like nothing is happening just wait. The extraction will eventually start. I played the game a little bit to get the feel of it. I think this is a game I will enjoy playing. Thank you GGOTD team, the moderator, and Alawar Entertainment.

For those who don't like today's game, I've just been enjoying Heroes of Hellas 3, which I finally downloaded/installed from MyPlayCity. You have to un-check 2 boxes at the beginning of the install to avoid homepage hijack and MPC search engine installation. Also, MPC installs the game on your C drive, in Program Files, which is not where I put my games when given a choice. It's a good game (if you like Match-3's, which I do), and the sequel to Heroes of Hellas 2, which was given away here on 25 January 2015, and of course the original Heroes of Hellas, given away here on 10 November 2013.

Athens has been destroyed, and you're rebuilding it, with gold you earn by collecting coins, jewels, and golden tiles. The Match-3 action is varied by Hidden Object levels every once in a while, and I'm enjoying it immensely. And this time, there's even a Relaxed Mode!

If you have a slow internet connection, I'd advise downloading and installing todays game as soon as possible. The download size is over half a gigabyte in size.

Deadly Voltage: Rise of the Invincible

Capture
Installation:

The zip file once downloaded should be 594 MB size and when installed to the default path mentioned below is 618 MB in size. Installation is a breeze; the unzipped setup file installs the game to the following path:

C:\Games\DeadlyVoltage_Game

Once installed you can delete the wrapped setup file (for those that are new to the giveaway project that's the orange colored file with a key symbol on the icon; you can also delete the Setup.gcd security file and the read me document.

There no desktop icon created during installation so you will have to create your own via the above path or via which ever path you chose for yourself. If you also want a start menu shortcut you will have to go into Documents and Settings which is found in the root directory (C:\).

i.e. C:\Documents and Settings\name\Start Menu\Programs\ (XP) or C:\Users\(User-Name)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\ (Win 7 & 8 and Vista)

Where 'name' equals administrator, or whatever name you use for your account. Just create a new folder within the program folder and add a shortcut from the games executable file. (right click and select create shortcut then copy that to the folder you've just created - you can also use the same shortcut and copy it to the desktop or select send to desktop {create shortcut}).

There is no music folder inside the main game folder, so there's no way of changing the music directly. you can turn off the music via the options menu, then play your own music via a media player if you wish.

Deadly Voltage: Rise of the Invincible should work on all iterations of Windows.

The Game:

With so many hidden object games on the market, simply replicating the formula of the genre will do little to set a game apart from the crowd. Since many of these games offer the same mix of hidden-object scenes, mini-games and object-based puzzle progression, visual themes and settings can do a lot to set a HOG apart. In this regard, Deadly Voltage: Rise of the Invincible does plenty to achieve an original look, but beyond it visual appeal remains a competent but by-the-books hidden object adventure.

The game’s visual style seems pulled straight out of 1950’s science fiction. The town of Waterstone has been enveloped in some sort of electric force field, and the environment is filled with tube TVs, tail-finned cars and broken down robots that look like they could have evolved from the Tin Man himself. The futuristic inventions you encounter run purely on analog technology, mostly made up of gears, tubes, bolts and bulbs. Even your menu hub resembles an old-timey video phone, while the hint gauge looks like some sort of EMF detector the cast from Lost in Space would use if ghost-hunting on a distant planet.

deadly voltage rise of the invincible 640x480 sc
screen800x500

Retro futurism is found throughout the game, creating detailed environments to explore filled with decades-old visions of the future. In a toy shop, for example, there’s a sturdy steel box entitled “Toy Recycler” that would look at home in the Jetsons’ living room. Made up of various tubes and screws, it can magically reanimate broken down or fried robotic toys. In a scientist’s hidden lab, a riveted furnace runs giant gears that presumably give power to his kooky creations. Even the object-based puzzles you encounter will sometimes involve piecing together similarly outdated mechanisms, using their singular purpose to advance the game.

Deadly Voltage: Rise of the Invincible“ These object-based puzzles require you to collect and use various items and tools you find, meaning you won’t be able to “solve” most of them upon your first encounter. Thus, you’ll be revisiting areas frequently, using newly acquired items to solve puzzles or gain access to new areas of the game. Traveling between areas is made very easy thanks to the handy map system, which presents all the game’s scenes on a single page, allowing you to click the scene you wish to visit and transferring you there instantly. While many HOG/adventure games feature item-based backtracking puzzles, few make zipping between individual scenes as easy as this.

deadly voltage rise of the invincible 640x480 sc
Deadly Voltage Rise of the Invincible 15

Hidden object scenes are plentiful, and may even be a bit too frequent for some. They do feature both single-click items and those that require some form of interaction, but these two-step processes range wildly in cleverness. For instance, finding firewood in one puzzle requires the two simplistic steps of clicking on a furnace to open the door, then collecting the wood inside. Another asks for a bicycle horn, but throws a non-clickable bike into the shot to throw you off the scent. There is hidden imagery that appears to be purposefully concealed, but is not always collectable at the moment. Seeing as the hidden-object scenes are commonly revisited more than once, there is a good chance you’ll be asked to find these well-hidden objects somewhere down the line, so you may want to keep a mental note of their location for later.

Puzzles not requiring the use of items are a bit rarer, tasking you to do things like match colored wires in a fuse box, arrange matches or punch in numeric codes. Actually, a majority involve number-based puzzles, tasking you to manipulate on-screen elements into chronological order or add up sums. While such puzzles offer a nice reprise from the bevy of hidden object scenes, they could be a bit more involved, as most can be breezed over before the “skip” meter even finishes filling. Obviously, they become more challenging towards the end of the game, but at first are a bit overly simplistic.

Deadly Voltage: Rise of the Invincible“ In fact, that is a complaint that could be levied against the most of the game’s first half – it is all rather simple. Your character will usually come right out and say the item needed for each puzzle or scene, making it very clear what it is you are supposed to do once a new object is discovered. Objects get used more than once too, so finding a single item sometimes solves several puzzles at once. For instance, a bunch of puzzles demand a crowbar, and you are looking for one for quite some time. However, you oddly encounter a hidden object scene containing a crowbar early on, and are even asked to locate it. Upon completion, however, the crowbar is not awarded, giving you a different item instead. This seems an odd design decision, as it only serves to break the logical flow of game.

Visually, the game’s 2D art is highly detailed and consistently retro, with lots of animations to liven up the environments. Leaves twirl through the air, electricity and lightning zaps across the screen at every turn, headlights flicker on broken down vehicles and clouds lazily drift across the sky. Even the cutscenes are well done, generally featuring some sort of action sequence to progress the story.

On the auditory side of things, there are no voice-overs, leaving you to read through clickable text during the cutscenes. Still, the game features light jazzy music that pairs nicely with the retro aesthetic. It is quite soft and meant to blend into the background, so if you’d like to hear it more prominently, we recommend adjusting the volume via the options menu.

Deadly Voltage: Rise of the Invincible“ Other customizable options allow you to tailor the experience to your liking. You can change your cursor type, fiddle with sound levels and switch the aspect ratio to fit normal or widescreen displays. There are two modes of difficulty on offer, which change the amount of hints you receive and how fast the corresponding meters will fill up, giving you incentive to try the game on its harder mode should you have finished the easier mode at first.

Deadly Voltage offers up an imaginative world to explore filled with enough nods to retro science fiction tropes to make Buck Rogers blush. However, beneath its stylized veneer lies a simple story with unexceptional mechanics that fail to achieve much originality or challenge. Thanks to the great visuals, exploring the detailed environments is an engaging affair in and of itself, but when it comes to hidden object scenes and puzzles, you may feel like you’ve see this all before.

Conclusion:

No conclusion today, some issues at home cropped up, plus I needed to devote a lot of my spare time to my sons revision. He has important examinations starting in 2 weeks, so haven't had time to play the game properly, so I really can't give a conclusion that would justify the game. No scores today either.

Problems:

If you have any problems installing or getting today's game to work please go HERE for help. I've posted all of the common problems and solutions in a FAQ thread, which you can find in the sticky section of the forums by following the above link.

If you are posting late in the day I would also suggest posting in the main giveaway forums, in the game discussion section because I cannot moderate 24hrs a day over the weekend. I've created a thread HERE for that purpose. If you've installed the game but it won’t work for some reason, it should still be registered, so someone may be able to help at another time. Unfortunately if your problem is actually installing it then once the giveaway period is over there’s nothing that can be done until the game is given away again (though that isn't guaranteed). Sometimes you can still register the game after the giveaway has ended so long as you managed to start the download before the giveaway ends. I've tested this and the grace period lasts for up to 1 hour.

It’s always worth checking out the free games sites because sometimes the games we get here are also available for free from them. MyPlayCity (MPC) has the most with over 1000 games to choose from. Other sites include Gametop and FreeGamePick. Todays game is available from from MyPlayCity. (See link in the introduction section above)

If you do download any games from MyPlayCity, Gametop or the other free game sites 'do' watch out for toolbars etc. Make sure you un-check the check-boxes during installation, and, in the case of MyPlayCity, every time you boot the game up, (this may have changed now as these free game sites tend to change the format frequently. .. I've posted links to all of the common free game sites below in the games, games games section. :)http://steamcommunity.com/app/263200
For now I won't be recommending you download games from Jenkat Games. They have changed the way you get games from their site. Diane has posted information about this over in the game discussion forums. If I have time or remember, I'll link to it.

There are 310 games on sale over on Steam this week, ranging from 10% to 90% off. There's also a Sega sale this week with up to 75% off publishers prices. You can find a full list of all sale items HERE.

You'll also find some excellent deals over on the following Game sites.

GreenManGaming
Gamersgate Summer Sale
GOG (DRM free games)
Desura
Gamestop
GameFly (soon to be sold off)

Free Game Sites:

MyPlayCity (over a 1000 games to choose from)
Gametop
FreeGamePick

To be honest there are too many game deals around too list them all. Just visit the sites I recommend above and I'm sure you'll find something that suits you for a very decent price. If like me you prefer Steamworks games, many of the above sites also sell steamwork games.

If that's not enough, check out the Game Discussion forums HERE for details of other games either free or on deals such as the Indie Game bundles (there's over 20 of them - If you purchased all of them you'd be paying around $80 for around a thousand dollars worth of games); or check out the four day sales at IndieGameStand. you'll find the indie bundles thread HERE. The thread is outdated, but all of the links will still take you to the latest bundles.

The latest IndieGameStand game is A Valley Without Wind 1 & 2 Dual Pack. It's a 2D sidescroller without a linear path. An action game with tactical combat and citybuilding. An adventure game that lets you free-roam a vast, procedurally-generated world. A Valley Without Wind defies genre stereotypes. Unlike other procedurally-generated games, you also get a logical progression in difficulty, plus helpful tips and checklists to guide your travels (should you need them).

plus if you pay over the average, which at the time of writing was $1.75 you will get a another game called Shattered Horizon. Both games come with Steam keys plus drm free copies.
You can pay as little as $1 for the game if you wish. This bundle ends around 5am (GMT) Tueday 28th April.

The latest Daily Indie game is called RoboWars (vaguely similar to Plants vs Zombies

In the near future, mankind has opened the way to the stars - made possible through the use of droids, able to operate in the hostile environment of the deep space. However, both spaceships and droids are dependent on Neonium for their power. However, this new source of energy was only found in the moons of Pluto and deposits are very limited, so the search started for a new supply.

Scouts ships discovered that a distant planet known as Praymos has rich deposits of Neonium. The only trouble is Praymos is not only inhabited but has a technological civilization similar to that of Earth of the second half of 20th century. The result was a battle not just for control of the resource, but the entire planet.

RoboWars is easy to play yet difficult to master. Each level has its own unique set of tactics - master the tactics and push on to victory! Select your cards wisely - deploy them even more carefully. Build your defenses to prevent the capture of your flags by the enemy. Place your units or set your traps; earn the right special abilities. In between attacks, construct new defenses. Manage your supplies of Neonium well - the more you have, the more special abilities cards will be available. The cards allow you to build battlefield towers, units and traps or to activate abilities. Build Neonium production plants for even more special ability cards. Destroyed enemy units will sometimes drop money, which can be used to buy units, traps, and attack cards.

You can get two keys if you pay more than the average of $1.01 (at the time of writing only a few people had purchased it had purchased it - the price will slowly rise, but rarely gets higher than around $1.30); one key to share with a friend or family member perhaps? You'll find that deal HERE. They also have four bundles of several games that'll cost you less than $1.50 each HERE (DIG Bundles 25, 26 and 27 plus Desura bundle 4). You get Steam keys for all of these games apart from the Desura bundle. Though some of the games are on Valves Greenlight project and should get Steam keys if Greenlit. The single game deal ends Midnight Tuesday (GMT) and will be replaced with Chains a challenging puzzle game with a unique feel and distinctive vector graphics style.

Most of the other bundles retail for around $5 give or take a few dollars (apart from the Daily Indie bundles that only cost $1.49 for six games), but you can pay as little as a dollar for some.
The free game from Origin has changed to the original Syndicate from 1993. It's been optimised for todays computers. Well worth getting, especially if you are into classic games from the 1990's Check it out HERE

A Request for helpl>:

Developers rely on good feedback to improve their games. If you download this game please take some time once you’ve played it a while to leave some constructive feedback either positive or negative. The more constructive feedback we get, the more likely developers are going to give more games away. The giveaway site already has a very good standing with the search engines. Developers want their products out there on the WWW, this site has the potential to do that. The game giveaway project gives away on average between 9 to 17 thousand downloads for each game depending upon what genre and how obscure the game is. That’s a lot of homes these games are being downloaded into and a lot of 'potential' cash that’s being lost by the developers. If we get better games because of better feedback, the community are likely to continue to benefit from the generosity of the developers. Satisfied community members are then more likely to visit the home sites of those developers and purchase games that they may not have bothered with before they discovered the developer via the game giveaway site, thus giving the developers more incentives to give away even more decent games.

Please leave some feedback once you’ve checked the game out. It can be positive or negative, but please explain what your reasons were for the feedback you post. You could also leave suggestions for improving the game, for example, this game could do with more block types for the levels editor, add more power-ups, describing the ones you think would be suitable, add some mini games (which seem all the rage in some arcade games now) or enable the user to be able to change the in game music easily.

Thank you in advance to all those who take the time to post a constructive comment.

Regards

Whiterabbit aka Stephen
