Finally a racing shooter... I think I'm gonna cry...

Thanks GGAOTD and WhiteRabbit!

The default keyboard controls are a bit hard to get used to. Better support on the controls (keyboard finetuning, touchpad, joystick, driving wheels, etc.) are essential to a driving game, since it's where the user interacts with the game.

To the people who got blank screen then crashes, please ensure your system is up to the spec. If you are running on a (old) laptop, your video card is likely a dx7-era integrated chip with shared memory, thus unable to support this game. It would be better if the developer could also list the DirectX version required next time.

Here is my feedback to the (imho talented) programmer:
- Cars and background look good, effects are very good, but overall design for me is much to dark, "black in black".
- the special items are blocking the sight on the track, they are to bright and there are to many of them in a row
- the track design ist to repetitive, everything looks the same
- tracks are to short, there should be an percent indicator for location
- tracks are to "flat", there should be some tectonics
- tracks have no barriers on the track, there is no oil, no stones, no holes, no scrap, no mud, no waste, no ramps .... empty tracks
- the sky is empty to... maybe some flying attacks?
- computer drivers are much of the time in front of me, and sometime they act very uninspired. No need for accelerating, no dynamics in driving, should be more break and accelerate phases and more differece between slow and fast
- I can not see drivers behind me, no chance to dodge, the should be a back mirror and target indicator
- The damage model should be better, I can see no deformation (maybe cause I can see nothing)
-In the car selection menue (garage) the cursor keys don´t work.
-Unavailable cars should be marked as locked in the preview.

conclusion: played until course 6, then stopped and deleted
reason: Gameplay is not thrilling to me, it´s everytime the same, a little bit like space invaders, but space invaders IS thrilling. In this state I see no chance for selling this game, I can only recommend refurbishing the game design. In this state for me it is simply boring and uninspired. Feel free to contact me for more input.

Hey, just thought I'd leave a little review:

The game is a good concept. Although it's been done many times before, it is still a fun idea that is very enjoyable.

Pros: The ablity to fight, not just race your opponents

Cons: Gameplay

As of now, you hardly turn at all until you start to skid. If you try to counter-correct a skid your vehickle makes an unnatural jerk in the opposite direction. The game also needs much more physics. Crashes are just little bumps, and hitting a wall just seems to be a turn correction.

Overall: Good, but needs work.

To moderators - Why do you ask for constructive comments but don't include them when someone takes the time to do this? What I said was totally relevant, and essential information for the developer - a game that doesn't function needs to have the problems ironed out, and so the developer needs to hear about it. I really don't think I'll bother with trying in future.

you wrote:

"Played with this for ten minutes – one freeze on the menu, one game crash at the end of playing one lap, and topped off with a spontaneous reboot. I’m afraid that’s as far as I’m prepared to go with this… uninstalling.
FYI: Win XP SP3, P4 3.4GHz, 1GB RAM, GeForce 6600"

I don't see anything constructive in the above post. You mention that there was a freeze and a reboot, which has been mentioned several times already, but you don't actually say what you tried to do to correct the issues.

For example the following post wasalmost identical to yours but they also added an attempted fix:

I have Windows 7 x64 with GTX280 with latest drivers. Game starts with blank screen. After awhile I have sound, but still just a black screen. Tried compatibility mode with no success.

Maybe if I had more help with moderating I may not have been so mercenary in my judgement. Sorry you feel so offended.

You can easily edit the key bindings, as phased did with the screen resolution. The screen resolution is in the config.cfg file and the key bindings are in Actions.cfg. Interestingly, the fire keys are named mouse0, mouse1, and mouse2, but the bindings are x,c,v. A work in progress, or a backtrack? Or just some kind of naming convention. I'm thinking these could probably be changed to mouse control - probably removing the key names and changing the status from false to true, if someone thought that would be better. (?)

My inability to master the hand/eye coordination necessary for a racing game strikes again. I haven't been able to master a single Hand Made Games racing game and have rarely gotten even past the first level. Same thing here, so I can't really rate the game. It may be that racing games are one of the types that there is simply too big a gap between the vet and the newbies, especially if the newbie is coordinationally challenged.

Still, there are some things that bother me here. Most importantly, the developer has made a mistake concerning the reloading of levels after a failed attempt. The program kicks out of the level you just lost, rather than just restarting that race and allowing people to use the menu to get out of that race if they want to. I spent as much time waiting for the selection menu and then the race itself to reload as I did blundering around the racetrack.

Anyway, I found the key control here to be better, but I still couldn't master them throughout the whole circuit. That's not a complaint, but what does bother me is the lack of feedback. I repeatedly got "Race Failed". Why? Obviously, either I encountered too much damage crashing or was too far behind in the race. Likely, it was the former, but I didn't see anything like a life points meter to let me know I was in danger of losing. Also, you power up in this game by driving through what I can only describe as an energy wall which represents the ammo, or nitro, or what have you. But, when you do so, you get a momentary flash which obscures the race track. That doesn't seem to happen to the crash cars. What's the point of this distraction? You could easily lay the power up on the race track. And the crash cars start the race ahead of you, which I guess is to promote you to hunt, rather than race, but it's not like they have a hard time passing you up, anyway.

I can't really vote up or down on this game, but I do wonder if all of these Hand Made Games are from the same person. This one, because of the increased complexity of being a combined shooter/racing game and the more detailed backgrounds graphics that apparently come with it, is the best, but it still doesn't grab me enough to prompt me to master it.

Still, it appears to me that the complexity has increased more than the gaming experience has improved in this latest Hand Made Game. If this is the same developer that made all these games, I'm not sure if this person is understanding the feedback they're getting. Maybe it's a language barrier. We've made many suggestions for improvements to these games, but they're ignored, and the games just seem repackaged, rather than fine tuned. This one is an exception, but only because it's more ambitious, not necessarily because it's a better play. I wonder if this developer is ever going to have any success if they just keep putting a new face on the same old games. There's nothing wrong with copying - most games are copies. But you need some unique features to make the game standout. Like we said yesterday, Crystal Cave may be a Boulderdash clone, but it shows a unique take on that style of game and people find those original touches attractive and buy games like that. I just don't see anything in these Hand Made Games that standouts from the crowd.

I am having the game crash at the end of the 6th race every time, just after I finish it. I am running Vista 32 bit with 3gb RAM and an Nvidia 8400 graphics card. The only other criticism I would give is that, while most of the loading scenes go by quickly, after a race it almost seems like the game freezes (4-5 times the other loading screens time). Any ideas?
