Interesting. My apology. When I clicked View All Comments, the last posting number was #117. Even after refresh twice.

When I send previous posting (#121), suddenly, the last listing number became #121 and my last posting (#120) appeared again.

Sorry again for any inconvinence.

PS: I was using different computers to send #120 & #121.

Dear Webmaster,
You owe me an explanation. My email address is real. The same as the removed one.
My last posting was disappeared, which told others my experience about the frame rate problem. At least you should send a message to me to tell me why you removed my posting.

I installed the newest (relatively) video driver for my Dell machine. The original driver was from XP, but the new one was from NVIDIA. My video card is MX440. The frame rate problem solved.

Rate problem solved for me. I installed the game on three different computers. Only one of them has the video rate problem. My video driver was using XP bundled one. I downloaded the newest one from NVIDIA. After replaced the driver, the 3rd computer works fine as the others.

It worked for 2 days, then it deleted itself from my Hard Drive. All files are intact, except the game file itself.

Comment from moderator:

The file couldn't delete itself; there has to have been some process carried out that has caused the deletion. Did you check the recycle bin?

Game:

Looks pretty interesting .....

Installation:

The game installed and looks like it works OK ....However

The installation program had problems with graphics. Instead of titles, "paths" "Accept" or"go back" and "Cancel" buttons, everything was labeled "????????????????????????????????????????????????"

That needs to be fixed before serious distribution can occur.

I'll bet a whole bunch of people cancelled installation figuring the game was corrupt....

I guessed at what I thought the buttons meant ... and apparently guessed right (During installation)

But that's not goig to cut it in the real world.

Note: Frame rate - I didn't get to really start the game but the frame rate of the video intro as well as the program speed (menu selection buttons) was pretty fast

I don't have issues with that ....

Installation was weird.. because there were a bunch of question marks instead of words... just clicked through it..

It unzipped into c:\games

And i had to create a shortcut for my start menu.

THIS GAME IS AWESOME!!! EXACTLY LIKE THE ORIGINAL (except with music. and the graphics are more than 16 color)
good times

Yes Whiterabbit. It is possible to manually change the resolution through C:\Users\\Documents\CrystalCaveClassic\game_config.txt

If someone decides to do that, they should also remember to take the Windows border into consideration. For example, a 1920x1200 screen would probably need the following line in their config:
video_mode = "1905 1165 0"

However, hacking a config file doesn't correct the issue of forced fullscreen, or supported dynamic resolution (in the proper aspect ratio) because the programmer(s) did not take into consideration anyone that bought a widescreen LCD or notebook computer in the last 4+ years.

If they honestly wish to make money from their software by providing it to us for feedback, that is the easiest way to do it. As it is, I'll enjoy playing it for free. If those issues were corrected, I would be happy to pay for it.

Thanks for the support midori, I can't understand why someone would say such a thing????

To Soccermilo and Brenda,

Try clearing out the internet cache, in Internet explorer it's right click on the internet icon and select internet properties. This brings up a window that has severl options. click on the delete button in the Browsing history section. That should clear your cache.

Another thing would be to reboot your modem and, if yo have one your router (re-boot = turn the power off for several seonds then turn back on.

To Molly,

Thank you :)

To Tazincognito,
You can probably edit a config file within the games installed folder that would do what you ask.

To leelo_tx

As there is no uninstaller nor any registration details in the registry the only way to uninstall this game is to delete the installed folder. There will be some orphan registry entries left, but these are hardly going to impact your system. You could go to the registry editor (Start menu, type regedit in the run command then OK) Once the rwgistry editor is open, search out all the entries for Crystal Cave. The FIND command is in the edit menu. to scroll through the registry editor once you've activated the find command click on F3 to find more entries pertaining to Crystal Cave. Before you start to delete entries in the registry do create a restore point. :)

I hope the above helps

Regards

Does anyone know how to uninstall this? I had the same probs everyone else has had... ?????, super lag, etc. I would love to download again and play, but it's too late in the day. I'll settle for wiping it from my system, but don't find an uninstall, nor do I find it in my add/delete programs list. Help? Thanks.

BTW...this is the only problem I've ever had with anything I've gotten from GAOTD OR GGAOTD.

I despise games that force you into a low resolution full screen mode. I despise even more the games that force you into a low resolution full screen mode & it takes 10 minutes to get to the options screen in order to change to windowed mode because it is the only other option.

That being said, I love the game. I would love it more if it started in windowed mode & had a dynamic resolution adjustment (grab a corner & drag it OR default the game to the actual resolution of the system running it).

In an era of native resoution LCDs of 720p, 1080p, 1440x900, 1920x1200, etc., to have games default to a single, MUCH lower resolution just makes it look outdated from the start & less likely to make me want to buy it if I were testing out a demo.

Thanks again for a great game! I downloaded and played fine on my XP SP3, even with the question marks!
Thanks also Whiterabbit for the link to Game Booster. My mom can't play her download because she doesn't have the graphics capability, and she has way too many bulls**t programs running in the background, too. With the Game Booster, she can turn them all off without worrying about doing them separately and without turning off anything she REALLY needs! (I am going to install a graphics card for her asap...) :-)

On a more personal note, some of us don't have a life, but I prefer to take out my frustrations on my games instead of somebody who really has made a good difference in my world, not to mention someone who knows more than I ever will about computers! (I luv you Whiterabbit!) ;-)

Please keep up the great giveaways and THANKS!

I have to comment after reading "thegregg." My heart actually started skipping beats, to think that there are such vile, hateful people out there, lashing out their venom at the unknown. How sorry I am that "thegregg" will never feel love or compassion, or know what it is. The mind of a serial killer, devoid of reason; an empty life, wasted on someone who doesn't deserve one.
Sorry he chose to ooze his slime on one of the grandest people I've ever "met." Luv u wrabbit.

Hi Ron,

Yes Crystal Cave Classic is a different release to Crystal Cave gold. It's a newer release; also the graphics have been upgraded, the levels are different, there are loads more extra levels and more importantly there's a levels editor included with the Classic Version. So if you haven't already, get downloading - you wont be disappointed. :)

Hi Rich,

I realize the following isn't an ideal solution, but instead of trying to close the game down as normal, (which you said freezes the computer), do the three fingered salute (Ctrl - Alt - Del). That way you aren't compromising your hard drive by switching off the computer via the off switch. (doing so can damage your hard drive - though I've done it many times and have never seen any damaged sectors on my HDD's when I've done a defrag)

W.R.

Game GOTD gave away Crystal Cave Gold on January 7, 2007 -- still playing that game after almost 3 years. It got great reviews back then (82% thumbs up). http://game.giveawayoftheday.com/?s=crystal+cave+gold

Any idea if this Classic version is the same as the Gold version?

Windows Vista 64: No problems with download, install (except the ????), or playing. I really like these kinds of puzzle games, and this one, in my opinion, is made very well and runs perfectly on my system. It is a pleasure to play. I also love Archibald. Rake In Grass is a great game maker.

Mod - as per "thegregg" - not very bright, baseball hatted dipstick with mobile phone glued to ear, eating pizza with other hand thinking people listen to him, while they are actually laughing at the moron

You have my sympathies dealing with the likes of him - a good example of whats left after the zombies have finished eating the brain !

I'm having the same issues as #3 and #70 where the game is playing so slow that it is impossible to play. I did not see any comments with help in regards to this issue. Does anyone have a clue or advice? My son is excited to try this game as the starting sequence looks pretty neat. I am running Vista 32 bit. Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

Moderators comment:

I did mention earlier that it may be a graphics RAM issue.

Hi Barbara,

Just follow codesaway comment #16 or Cad's comment #76. Don't worry about the ????; click on the left hand button and it'll install. Mke a note of where it's installing to as you'll need to reate your own shortcut. If you're not sure how to do that follow the link below, it'll take you to a thread in the forums that tells you how to create desktop and start menu program folder shortcuts.

Absolutely brilliant game - Rake in Grass were responsible for the 'Archibald' game given here some months ago too. I would happily buy one of their productions on the strength of these 2 games.

As an old Commodore64 owner (complete with 1000's of games) I fondly remember both 'Rockford' and 'Boulderdash' and even had a boulderdash construction kit I never used. Today's game brings back all the memories of those.

Thank you GGOTD - One of the best giveaways ever.

Contains hint/ spoiler

I have a walkthrough for the first Egyptian level after the tutorial which is really quite tough!. Push the middle glass so it is one away from the multi-tile, push the other glass one square towards first one. Move right,to drop boulder one square. Now collect middle acid to drop in gap between glass tiles. Push other acid across all of these to drop to bottom of screen. Now break glass to left of boulder and drop boulder onto acid. Proceed down the screen to right of acid and push to metal door. You can now push the boulder into the recess. Go to top, break glass next to acid, and the way is now clear to drop acid and push to second metal door and get crystal! Took me many attempts and more than a little while to figure this level out. Great game!

Just to settle the 'which came first' arguments: First Star Software released Boulder Dash in 1984 (yup, it's 25 years old this year!); the original Crystal Caves game was released by 3D Realms in 1991.

For anyone still confused by the ???, the left hand button at the bottom of the setup dialog is the Install button (the right-hand button is Cancel!).

The ???... button in the setup dialog will let you browse to choose a folder where you want to install the game. The install will create a folder amend CrystalCaveClassic UNDER the folder you specify in the dropdown box. Therefore, I'd suggest you change the box—using that browse... button—to read C:\Program Files.

PS: Why does the 'share this with your friends' ticker STILL read 'a new game every day!' when this is clearly not the case?
