Playing on Vista. Nice graphics. Good time killer when the day is really dragging. Can maneuver through some levels and not get lost in it.

All in all, nice game.

I keep saying to myself I'm going to make a level. I have been doing ever since they forst released a levels editor, but have been too involved with other bigger games, mainly FPS, although I do play Oblivion and as with you some of the earlier RPG's such as Wizardry 8, erlier versions of M&M, URU and the like. Not into Warcraft though. I bought the shivering Isles a while back, but haven't installed it yet as theres far too much to do in Oblivion still, lol.

Good luck on your level building. Let me know when you've made and uploaded one and I'll check it out :)

Hehe, yep. Oblivion, Might and Magic (the older RPG ones), but my username comes from H.P. Lovecraft´s "Cthulhu" storys ;)

I played a demo of Reaxxion yesterday. It has a few wonderful ideas (like the fluid metal thingy you play with, the Reaxxion mode and the overload event) but after playing a few levels it got a bit boring.
Magic Ball 3 was a nice one, too. The only thing is, as you said, that it is far too easy.

In RI I am playing the Delta Quadrant episode at the moment, after that I will jump into the thousands of usermade levels - and maybe I will try to create some myself ;)

Guardian of R'lyeh comment #74 yeah I agree wholeheartedly. (Do you play Oblivion, M&M and other games of that Ilk? I only ask because of your user name :) ) I do love the board sets fro this game, to look at least, lol; but the game play compared to Ricochet Infinity is so boring. The fact that you can create your own levels or download thousands if you wish, directly from the game is just one of the many fantastic things about Infinity. I'd say it's got to be the best arkanoid to date, although games like Reaxxion and Magic Ball 3 are pretty good to (though I think MB3 is far too easy) :)

@Stephen
that is exactly what I did with the demo of the golden pack and the Giveaway from this day after I figured out that the levels are stored as DAT files ;)
However, at the same time I purchased Ricochet Infinity (from Reflexive, too) which is a lot better than Hyperballoid imho.

Just an aside about yesterday’s giveaway; Inoticed a lot of people had problems running the game yesterday. I'd forgotten to mention that when I upgraded my computer to a dual core last February I had the same problem with the game, but reinstalling it several times cured the problem. I've since bought the golden version which ran the first time I installed it. I decided to install the giveaway early this morning (around 4am) because i found the free packs {survival and brick match} wouldn't install into my golden version, so I figured that installing them into the giveaway version which is the complete as opposed to the golden version, then copying and pasting them over to the golden version may give me the free packs as well. Yes it worked. i discovered in the mean time that the giveaway version of the game also ran very badly on both my dual core systems. I then decided to reinstall my bought version of the complete edition and it worked without any problems but the giveaway version would not.

For those who had this problem and did not uninstall it using the uninstall feature may I suggest you download the version from the Alawar site and see if that cures the problem. If it doesn't, try installing it several times. That worked for me the first time I had this problem. You can read the comments on the Alawar site where I reported this problem then later posted to say it was resolved.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Another point that may be of interest to those that like the Hyperballoid game; if you download the Hyperballoid golden Pack from Reflexive:

http://www.reflexive.com/HyperballoidGoldenPack.html?CID=23306

open up the installed demo and cut all the game packs DAT files from the games folder that aren’t present in the complete pack and then paste them into the version that was given away yesterday, you may have a surprise in store when you boot up the game. I know the DAT files are transferable in the full version ‘paid’ for games as I have both now, but not sure whether you can with the Demo, although I transferred the two free packs {brick match and survival} from the demo version to the golden pack when I first bought it as I couldn’t be bothered searching through all my DVD’s (which are not very well indexed) to find my bought copy of the complete edition, so just downloaded the demo so that I could install then transfer the free packs.

to the game giveaway moderators if the above paragraph is deemed too sensitive, please delete the paragraph and not the whole post as I think the rest of the post may help some get this game working properly. Thank you.. I have included it here for information only. ;)

Whether anyone will bother going back to a previous days comments after more than a day, I don't know, however, I remember reinstalling this game after I'd upgraded my computer to a dual core back in February this year, and got the same sort of problems with running. Choppy, almost impossible to move the bat in time to catch the ball etc etc. I reinstalled it a few times and it stopped running slow. That computer is now my back up computer since building a new one a couple of months ago, which also has a dual core cpu. I initilly installed The Golden pack on it and it ran with no problems right from the start. Just before I went to bed last night (this morning) I installed the giveaway version, because the golden version wont accept the two free packs you can download from Alawar, but the complete edition will. I was able to install the free versions to the giveaway (Complete pack), then copy and paste the free levels packs {survival and brick match DAT files} to the golden version and not suprisingly they worked :) However I tried to play the complete edition and had the same problem with running it despite my own complete and golden packs running fine. Was this a special edition for the Giveaway project or the ull version?????? (I have a bought copy of both the complete and golden pack editions)

#34 Carole:

There is a way to save the Games to(lets say an external harddrive) so you don't have to store them on your computer. However, if your computer chrashes and windows must be reinstalled, they will be lost. and they will not run on any other computer.

1. you should use an external harddrive and on one of its partitions you create a folder 'Programs' or whatever name you like.

2. When you install a giveaway of the day, you connect your external drive to your computer before. Usually the installer will ask you for a destination folder and then you tell him this folder on your external harddrive. Thats all.

3. When you want to play, you have to connect your harddrive to your computer and thats it.

4. Finally there is one tip what you can try, after your computer crashed if you don't want to loose all the games from GOTD. If you run windows setup on your crashed system: do not make a complete new installation but try to make a repair installation instead. Then chances are good that your games will stay preserved on your computer.

Finally a word about the game:

Very nice ideas have been realized in this game. sound and graphics are ok. But what I always don't like in Alawar games: There are times that are boring and nothing will haben and then there are times when too much is going on on the screen. Timing of the action needs improvement.

As several comments have mentioned, clearly has a timing bug on fast systems. Unlike the others who say "its unplayable but I'm not voting thumbs-down", I'm voting thumbs-down because it isn't playable on my system.

<3 this type of game. if i've got one "ballbreaker" ive got them all. i LOVE them! but this one ran choppy from the beginning...i installed, then rebooted for something else.

upon reboot, and on my WinXP SP2 system with 1Gig of RAM (not amazing, but more than decent), this one ran so choppy that i was annoyed after only 2 levels. i can only hope it ran better for everyone else. i didn't give this a thumbs down just *in case* it was my system's problem...but i don't think so. for those who can play it, enjoy much! i'm jealous lol

Easy download and installation.Same problem as #45 on an XP SP2. Unlike him I don't know how to how create the file in my NDVIA to get this game going. Too bad it looks like a good game. I'll save it anyway. Maybe I'll get someone to show me how to do this at a later date.

Didn't work for me. Installed great, but when I ran it I got a message saying "game.wrm stopped working" or something like that. Uninstalled and tried completely downloading I reintalling it again, but got same result.

Maybe this doesn't work for Vista?

I liked this game, with it's unique backgrounds and a few power ups that aren't seen in most of it's type. I also liked the clear descriptions of what each power up does. As things can get hectic in the higher levels, it's nice that the title of the power up doesn't appear in the playing field, but is clearly visible in the black background on the top right hand corner of the game. I'll be keeping this one. Thank you GGOTD and Alawar!

The game is not loading the full version on my 32 bit Vista system. I get a trial version good for 60 minutes. I have downloaded many programs in the past. I have uninstalled and tried to reinstall half a dozen times. Is the version incompatible with Vista?

Tried the 16 bit option and it helped but still so jerky I can't play it. Frustrating because Magic Ball 3 has gotten old and I love what I was able to see of Hyperball. I'm glad I didn't have to pay to learn that I can't play it on my computer.

Thanks GGotD.

I really wanted to like this game, but it's impossible to like a game you can't play. Even on 16 bit, it ran extremely poorly - <1 FPS. How can a simple Breakout game be that processor intensive?

Even though many of these Alawar games are "breakout" variations, they are still quite fun to play. Some folks think that they're all the same, but each of the variants is just like adding new levels, so go ahead, download, and play, you'll have a lot of fun!

This game downloaded and installed with no problems. I really like it and would recommend it to all. It's not as good as Aquaball but still a lot of fun. I went to the Alawar page as a few comments suggested to download the ezpansion packs but had trouble finding them. I would be grateful for someone to guide me. Thanks GGAOTD for another great title and thank you to the publisher Alawar Entertainment. You have been very generous with your games.

If this game was a risk for seizures, nobody who's at risk would be playing it in the first place. People who have epilepsy know to stay away from colour displays, so obviously we're not gonna be having Hyperballoid being responsible for anything "bad" happening...

As for the game, it's pretty lame considering that Hyperballoid Golden Pack contains almost 10 times the amount of levels. Mixed feelings I guess.

I may have been a little biased in my first comment earlier today. I didn’t have the time to review what I’d written, and on re-reading it, it seems a little negative, for what was one of my favorite arkanoids when I first purchased the original game. If I had of read it I doubt I would have been as negative as it seems as it is basically a very good game. I just felt a little cheated that after spending so much money (~$170) after buying most of the expansion packs, then they released the whole package for the same price as the original plus an unreleased pack. That just seems really unfair, but it’s a big cash cow and they know it. What I object to is the fact that they are not selling the Golden Pack to their regular (and faithful) customers yet, but the golden pack is available elsewhere.

All on one page:

http://s109.photobucket.com/albums/n61/Whiterabbit_01/gaotd/Hyperballoid/?start=all

As a slideshow:

http://s109.photobucket.com/albums/n61/Whiterabbit_01/gaotd/Hyperballoid/?action=view&slideshow=true

Apart from that, and the fact that even on expert, the game is easy you can’t really fault the game play; it’s got some beautiful level packs as you can see from the screenshots. There’s over 1000 levels in the golden pack, so for those who are contemplating buying any of the packs from Alawar it would actually pay to add the extra $5 to get the whole ‘Golden’ package; that’s 21 pack’s instead of just the three that come with the complete edition + the two freebies. That’s 75% more for your money. :)

Anyway, despite the underhanded business practice I still think Alawar are one of the better developer/distribution houses. At least from my perspective after buying games from quite a lot of different places. And that’s not considering the fact that they have given away so many great games while most of the other bigger game houses (no names mentioned) have not bothered to jump on board.

Then do it over, but when you open the file be sure to click the "activate" file first.

I had no trouble downloading and installing this game. The sound effects seem to have been taken from Magic Ball. However, the sound is a little delayed on my machine. I have noticed some sound problems with other games on my Vista machine. It may be related to the fact that I have a 64 bit machine but 32 bit Vista Ultimate. At least the sounds is there (just delayed).

It sounds like Magic Ball but looks a lot like Aquaball and is from Alawar. Need I say more? Great game!

I find it a relaxing game. Not every game has to make you concentrate to enjoy. Sometimes it's nice to play relaxed and this game is fun. The 8 way ball is hard to keep ALL of them going, though!

Easy Install, but Crashed the first 2 times I tried to play it. Freezing my computer requiring me to physically switch off to restart.
Solution was to create a custom profile in my NVDIA video control panel for this game to make it compatible with older OpenGL.After that the game ran well and for my taste this game is cool! Great Sparkely Graphics and Fun BonusesThanks Alawar and GGAOTD!
