Castles Puzzles:
Castles-Puzzles-001

Castles-Puzzles-002
In Brief:
Castles Puzzles is a 15 piece jigsaw puzzle on an 8 x 6 grid on the theme of castles (obviously). The developer Robot 8784 has given us 16 games since November 2020, including several jigsaw puzzles (Retro Puzzles, Sunrise of Puzzles, Puzzle Animals 2021, Horror Jigsaw Puzzles, The Puzzles Fantastic, Animal World Puzzles, Old Puzzles, Russian Car Archive, Ships Puzzles, Antique Puzzles) as well as other games such as Dangerous Decent, Pinball Zombie, Eternal Life, Galaxy Tag, Park Your Car and Find the Differences.
You can see a video of game play HERE.

The Game:
Todays is another of those square shaped puzzles with a 6 x 8 grid with 48 pieces that are located around the periphery of the puzzle. All pieces are oriented correctly. Once in the correct place they lock. You can get a preview of the picture by pressing the Q key. Once the puzzle has completed, you'll see the time it took in red lettering along the top of the puzzle, with a back arrow that takes you to the next puzzle., There isn't a level selection map; but. you can skip puzzles clicking the mouse wheel button. This takes you back to the Main Menu; puzzle selection appears random sometime sI'd ge tthe same puzzle, a tothers a different one or one I'd already seen. You can also turn the music off via the speaker symbol located in the top right of the puzzle, but once off it cannot be turned back on unless you restart the puzzle. There are two langauge choices English and Russian.

Once you've moved some of the tiles into the centre, you can see that the outer areas have a partially faded image of the edges of the picture.
Castles-Puzzles-005

Castles-Puzzles-006
Conclusion:
Castles Puzzles is a slightly harder jigsaw puzzle to solve than previous puzzles from other developers such as GameREA and UniDen. Personally I don't enjoy this type of jigsaw puzzle.

I did have some problems dragging some of the tiles from the periphery of the puzzle into the puzzle solving area; these tiles appeared locked and I had to restart the puzzle.

The very first jigsaw puzzle we were given back in February 2008 was called The Infinite Jigsaw puzzle, which had an amazing amount of configurability, such as the ability to change the shape of the puzzle pieces, change the size of the puzzle from a 24 to a 1024 piece puzzle (You'd need a very large monitor of at least 30'' to be able to solve the larger puzzles as well as the ability to upload any image you had. You can see that giveaway
HERE.

At the time of the giveaway a couple of the community suggested other free jigsaw puzzles that are still available and that also have the ability to upload your own images and select different shapes and sizes e.g. Astra Gift Maker HERE, and from the same site, BigJig HERE and Lena Games for a selection of other jigsaws HERE. You can also do a free daily jigsaw curtesy of Shockwave HERE
Castles-Puzzles-007

Castles-Puzzles-008
There's also commercial versions that are very configurable for example Jigsaws Galore HERE and BrainsBreaker HERE. you'll almost certainly be able to find lots more free and commercial jigsaws just by Googling. :)

If you are stuck for images to upload to the above free jigsaw games (which I doubt), there are a plethora of sites that offer free images; one of my favourites that I've visited often is called Digital Blasphemy, where you can download free versions of commercial images that are ideal for the above free and commercial jigsaw puzzles. You can find Digital Blasphemy HERE..

Notes on Security

I scanned a zipped copy of the installed game using Virus Total and it found zero hits from 60 antimalware engines.

The downloaded executable 'may' include some low level adware that only opens your browser once to Falcoware's home page after the game has installed and also places four shortcuts onto your desktop (which can be safely deleted once the game has installed).

The installation does NOT inject any malware into your system. When your browser is opened to Falcoware's home page following the games installation, it earns Falcoware games some money, part of which is given to the developer of the game for allowing the game to be given away for free. Once you've installed the game, there are no more browser redirections. This is because Falcoware removed their installer almost two years ago (that installer would show an advert for a game while the game was loading (whivch always took aboiut 20 seconds to ensure you'd seen the advert) . It would also always open your browser each time you closed the game after playing it.)
If you're still not convinced of the games efficacy and want to be absolutely sure that the game is safe to install, please use a sandbox program first, to check that the game is safe to install before installing it to your C drive or other drives on your computer (assuming you have more than one drive).

There are free sandbox programs such as Sanboxie, GeSWall, BitBox, Windows Sandbox, Bufferzone (a six month commercial license was given away via the applications side of the project back in December 2009 HERE), Shadowzone, as well as others. (You'll find them all on the same page from Techwhoop.
You can see the results of the installed games scan via the following link:

Whiterabbit-uk,

Free or Discounted Games:
Please check Delenn's threads over in the giveaway forums HERE (non-Steam games) and HERE (Steam games) for the latest freebies. It's kept up to date frequently, (thanks for keeping this up to date Delenn, very much appreciated).

Steam Games:
Black Desert a massive multiplayer online RPG with an online coop mode plus one DLC pack is presently free on Steam HERE until April 13th. You can see lots of images over in the Game Discussion forums HERE as well as several videos of game play in the Steam Store HERE. (Thanks for the heads up Mike); already had this in my account :).

For the latest Steam sales check THIS Steam database site out. You can list the games in 'price' & 'percentage off' order by clicking the headers. If you link SteamDB (the Steam database) with your Steam account, all games that you already have will be highlighted in green and those in blue are on your wish list. When there are Steam games being given away, you'll see the percentage off as 100%. It's worth checking this regularly to make sure you don't miss the best deals and freebies.

Minion Masters - Frost Dragon's Lair is free at the moment. If you've never installed Minion Masters, it's free HERE (Thanks to Delenn for the heads up) .

Delenn usually posts links to all free games within several hours of them going live, so check her links in the first paragraph above.
Indie Gala:
Don't forget to check Indie Gala's freebie section HERE, then click on the Showcase header, selecting freebies from the drop down menu; the most recent additions include:
1) ... Vroom Racing (Drive a Formula 1 car upon 18 worldwide tracks : Reach 380 Km/h and beat the ghost !)

2) ... Project Restart (An anime visual novel, two versions English & Portuguese)

3) ... Super Toy cars (ReRUN ... a tabletop arcade combat racing game)

4) ... Grab the Bottle (NEW ... is a quirky puzzle game in which you solve puzzles by manoeuvring an ever-extending arm to grab the goal bottle, and avoiding anything hazardous on the way.)

5) ... Control Craft 2 (NEW ... is a real time strategy game where you will have to act quickly against attackers who want to invade our planet!
Check the freebie section for the latest additions; if you've not visited for a while, also check the Showcase section for older freebies. All or most new freebies should be on the first page of the Showcase pages. We have been given over 340 games since I started to check the freebie section in 2018. But around 60% of those are no longer available free. The following recent freebies have now been removed from the free library: Cursed Sight, Pixel Puzzles 2, Spring Bonus, Little Kite, Last Dream, Unhack, Trainpunk Run, Pixel Puzzles 2: Paintings, Hamsterdam, Copperbell, Chainsaw Warrior, Leisure Suit Larry 2 Looking For Love (In Several Wrong Places), Leisure Suit Larry 1 - In the Land of the Lounge Lizards , Figment, Pixel Puzzles 2: Space, Revolution Ace, Six Sides of the World, Byte Family, Alone on Mars, Garfield Kart, Nostradamus the Last Prophecy, Snowball, Pixel Puzzles 2: Christmas , Die Young (Full version), Distortions, Dino Run DX, Cheap Golf, Kill Em All, Dead Hungry Diner, and Contract with the Devil.

Any game you claim while it's being offered is DRM free and will remain in your Indie Gala library permanently (unless Indie Gala goes bust) and can be downloaded at any time, under the showcase or freebie section; 115 games are still available. Not all games that go into the showcase remain free and are removed after a short period; e.g. the recent adventure puzzler Figment that costs almost £15 on Steam; so, you should grab them as quickly as you can. To find your games go to your account and from the drop down menu select 'My Library'. When the page opens find the 'Showcase' button in the banner along the top of the page and, from the drop down menu select 'Showcase'. There are only 8 games per page, so, if like me you have added hundreds to your account/library. Each page from your free list can take 30 or more seconds to move to the next page so it can take a good twenty minutes to get to the last page depending on how many of the free games you've claimed.
CD Keys:
Another decent site that you should check out regularly is CD Key HERE. Be sure to check that keys from CD Keys are redeemable in whichever country you live in (it details where it can be redeemed) as prices and the ability to redeem keys in particular countries may differ. I've quoted prices from the UK pages of CD keys. I recently got an Origin key for Star Wars: Squadrons for 99% off, costing me £0.34; it usually retails for £34.99, I also got 32% off a pre order copy of Dying Light 2 a couple of weeks before it was released in February, saving around £20 off the release price.
Epic Games:
The latest Epic games include Insurmountable - an adventure roguelike with permadeath, in which the player has to overcome huge mountains. Thanks to the procedurally created environment, no two climbs are the same. Make sure that your climber stays alive by always making sure that your vital values don't get into the critical range. We also get the excellent X-Com 2 - the sequel to XCOM: Enemy Unknown, the 2012 award-winning strategy game of the year

From 4pm next Thursday 21st April we will be getting Amnesia: Rebirth - you are Tasi Trianon, waking up deep in the desert of Algeria. Days have passed. Where have you been? What did you do? Where are the others? Retrace your journey, pull together the fragments of your shattered past; it is your only chance to survive the pitiless horror that threatens to devour you. We also get Riverbond - a fun and frantic couch co-op adventure game for 1 to 4 players set in a stunning voxel world. Embark on a heroic journey to complete missions, battle adorable enemies, and smash everything into tiny cubes!
Indie Bundles:
The best Indie Bundles sites that have been operating from around 2010 are the Humble Bundle and Indie Gala sites (though the latter isn't as good as it used to be, with most of the bundles containing cheap stocking fillers and a lot of 'adult only 'hentai like ' games). The Humble site is, in my opinion, the best; though a more recent addition that is worth checking out called Fanatical games, that used to be called Bundle Stars, looks to be a serious contender for that title as they have some very good bundles. Presently Fanatical hosts nine game bundles as well as other software and book bundles

Mystery Egg Bundle
Platinum Collection: Build your own April Bundle
Rogue Souls Bundle
Guardian Bundle 6
Fanatical Favourites -Build your Own Bundle
Build your own Hidden Gems Bundle 2
Build your own Nitro Bundle 2
Build your own Slayer Bundle 5
Build your own Puzzle Bundle

This discount increases the longer you stay subscribed up to a year with 20% off all none bundle purchases. Free Game Project:
I've restarted a project I originally started back in 2008 that used to be called Good Games to Grab, where I posted free games over in the forums on a daily basis; however, I won't be posting them daily this time, only as and when I have time and the inclination. You can find the new forum section entitled 'Free Game Project' HERE. So far, I've posted eight excellent PC games, plus one android game as well as suggested or linked to others similar to the ones posted. I'll be adding more as and when I have the time or the mood takes me over the coming months.

Amazon Prime Gaming:
If you have Amazon Prime you also get access to a new set of free games every month. The April freebies include the fantastic The Elder Scrolls Oblivion from GOG (You can find loads of mods, addons and other related files over on Nexus mods HERE. ModDB also have many files available for the game (over thirty thousand) HERE (files), HERE (add-ons) and HERE (mods).).

From Origin you get the 3D version of Plants vs Zombies: Battle for Neigbourville (I'm really pleased to see this one; I was intending to buy it in the next Steam sale as it's been on my wish list since it's release) . Plus there are several other games from Plug in Digital and Lucas Arts free this month.

On top of those full game freebies there's also a shed load of add-ons and other DLC content for various Free to Play and commercial titles such as GTA V, Overwatch, League of Legends, Rainbow Six Siege, Two Point Hospital, The Crew 2, Fall Guys, Blade & Soul, FIFA 22, Madden NFL 22 (the full game was free on Origin last month via Amazon Gaming, now you get some extra stuff to add to the game). Also extra's for Battlefield 2042, Splitgate, Gildwars 2, Black Desert Mobile, Warframe, Doom Eternal and over 20 other titles.
Other Free or Discounted Games:
Black And White Apocalypse that was given away mid January (HERE) by the developer Hammergames is always free via Itch.io and can also be downloaded as a colour version. You can find both versions via the following links Black & White version, and Coloured version. :) Hammergames also offer other games they have created free HERE. Some of them look like they are worth investigating. :)

Stay safe everyone.

Whiterabbit-uk,

While I don't play games where you can die (just don't care for them) I found your description of Rogue Legacy - Each time you die, your unique child will succeed you: One child might be colour-blind, another might be a dwarf with vertigo. But that's OK, because no one is perfect..... absolutely hilarious. I just might give it a go on that description alone.

Hope you are yours are doing well.....hugs

I like the puzzles in this (and their other give-a-ways), but I don't like the random selection of the puzzles. After the first few puzzles, you start getting repeats and you are never quite sure if you have seen them all towards the end.

Reply   |   Comment by jb  –  Last year  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

jb,

Yes, I was trying to get a screen capture of each of the puzzles and came up with the same issue, so gave up after several repeats of the same image. I highly recommend one of the free puzzles I link to in my conclusion as you can select the size of the puzzles (from 15 to over 700) any larger and you'd need a very large monitor as well as several different lug types and more importantly add any digital image you may have both from downloading from copyright free images and from your own photographs.

e.g. Astra Gift Maker

You can even send puzzles to family and friends; you'll find it HERE. You can even download different editions of the program, that includes images such as Italy & Spain, France & Uk, Japan, Landmark Edition, Tropical Edition and the Jigsaw collection that includes 100 jigsaws to solve as well as loads more categories. They are all free and work with XP to Win 10. Not sure about Win 11 yet.

I did a virus scan of the installed Astra Gift Maker and it was totally free of any malware from 61 antimalware suites. you can see the results HERE

Big Jig is even better with more lug types and jigsaw sizes from 17 to 3808 pieces (You'd need a massive monitor or maybe a 50/60 inch TV would work if you could connect your PC to it) as well as other configurable options. You'll find BigJig on the same site as Astra Gift Maker.

Whiterabbit-uk,

I'll take a look at your links. I like the idea of being able to make my own puzzles from my own photos. I have a nice 34" 4K monitor, so a puzzle with more pieces works for me too.

Thanks!!!

jb,

I edited the comment, adding more information. Big Jig looks even better. The 34'' screen should cope with at least a 1000 piece. Not sure if you can save your progress, but I'm assuming you can.

I still have the one given away back in 2008 and love uploading my own images to the program.

If you read the community comments about the Infinite Jigsaw game, it is a lot more complex than both of the ones I've suggested. They have really simple GUI's; whereas Infinite Jigsaw has nested menus that hide some of the features, so you have to dig to find them; that said, I've yet to find another jigsaw that beats it.
